How It Ends
(2018)

A road movie with nowhere to go...
Spoiler alert (although it is difficult to spoil something that is essentially rotten to its core): This movie has no ending. That's it, that's the spoiler. The premise of the movie is simple, a man losses contact with his pregnant girlfriend on the west coast and has to drive across country to "find' her again. Something of huge magnitude has happened on the west coast that destroys complete cities... a nuclear bomb, an alien attack, who knows?... we're never told. Yes, that's right, -- you're never actually told.

The plot is simple... drive for a bit, have a confrontation, drive for a bit, have a confrontation, drive for a bit, have a confrontation until you reach your destination. The characters are shallow and forgetful. It's as if the director said "we're going to make a movie today" and then made it up day by day as he/she went along and in the end finally gave just gave up and walked away... "I'm done". You will sit through almost two hours of this, unless you heed this review and simply walk away, which you should, if you're sensible.

People Magazine Investigates
(2016)

One of the best crime shows on television
I watch a lot of crime shows, which, may or may not be a good thing so I get to observe the spectrum of what's 'out there' and People Magazine Investigates has probably been one of the best crime shows for a least the last three years (this year being 2021). The show tells stories without the need for dramatic music, over-dramatization or the repetitiveness of other crime shows. The presenters/journalists are thoughtful, well presented and likable. The stories are well covered and thorough in all aspects. Well done.

See No Evil
(2014)

A good crime show but way too much padding
See No Evil is a good concept for a show but it is poorly executed at the expense of the viewer. This show has about 15 maybe 20 minutes of content but the producers drag it out to 43 minutes by replaying and repeating parts of the show to the point of annoyance. You know the ploy, play part of the CCTV tape, go to break, play the same CCTV tape sequence after the break, tell the CCTV operator to zoom in, watch it again etc. It a cheap production trick to pad the show to get it to 43 minutes. If you feel cheated (and you should) you're not alone. Lots of productions are guilty of the same stunt and it's a sad commentary of the current state of shows.

What We Do in the Shadows
(2019)

The funniest thing on TV... period.
The hilarious tale of three adult vampires living out their lives on Staten Island. An adult mockumetary that is as brilliantly acted as it is written. The funniest thing on TV. You'll keep coming back for more... just like Topher. It's brilliant., watch it. It should be compulsive viewing for any adult that doesn't go to church (you'll have trouble explaining this show away if you are a church-goer). Simply and utterly brilliant. Hilarious. Clever. I watched over again and again and again. If this show doesn't win a whole bunch of awards, well, that will be an injustice. That is all.

Entertainment Tonight
(1981)

Should be called "Garbage Tonight"
If watching an interview with someone who stood ten people behind Brittany Spears in Walmart is your thing, Entertainment Tonight will get your juices flowing. This show has the redeeming qualities of a week-old hamburger and is just as entertaining. A repeat offender of the worst kind. Not worth my time or your time but may be suitable as viewing punishment handed down by the judicial system.

Gunless
(2010)

Gunless: A glittering diamond in the rough
When is a Western not quite your average run-of-the-mill Western? When it's Canadian and it's "Gunless".

Paul Gross (magnificently) plays the Montana Kid, -- an American gun- slinger and outlaw who crosses over the Canadian border courtesy of a botched hanging and his wayward horse. Having arrived at a small village, half-dead and stinking to high heaven, the local community of a dozen or so individuals (including the village idiot) become obsessed with the Kid as his notoriety is legendary. The Kid manages to get into a situation with the village blacksmith (fueled by the fact that the blacksmith was doing the Kid a favor but the Kid doesn't see it that way) and this results in a duel. However, the blacksmith has no six-shooter therefore the Kid must provide him with one and the only gun available is broken. What will happen when the gun is finally repaired?

I don't want to give too much away but to say that the script is cleverly and masterfully written. There are plenty of dark comedic elements. Paul Gross could almost pass for young Jack Nicholson and plays the role of the Kid oozing with charisma and an acting charm that immediately won me over. Time and care is taken to build the characters in the village without over-burdening you. The characters are likable, appealing and entertaining.

If you like your movies full of mindless violence, cursing or shots crammed with 110 MPH computer generated objects, then this movie is not for you as there is none of the above. If you are looking for extremely entertaining albeit different 'Western' that is dripping with great acting (courtesy of Paul Gross), great writing, dark (but family orientated) humor, great vistas and above all great entertainment, you can't go wrong with Gunless. It's a rare gem indeed.

Tammy
(2014)

Don't Waste Your Money
I can usually find some redeeming qualities in most if not all movies... not so here. Tammy is simply not funny.

The movie is poorly written, poorly acted and cannot be saved even with the brilliant Kathy Bates and a bit-part by Dan Akroyd. Foul language exists to try to boost scenes that are stone dead unfunny and it goes over like a lead balloon. I was tempted to ask for a refund.

Don't even waste your time watching it when it comes out on Netflix, you'll be spared the bore-fest.

The IMDb has a 10-line requirement for leaving reviews but to be frank, it hard to write 10- lines about a movie that is simply not entertaining. I suspect that even hard core McCarthy fans will have a hard time trying to swallow this one.
