Star Trek: Prodigy
(2021)

How did I not know about this!!
How is it that a Nickelodeon animated show can have more story, character and heart than any Star Trek show in the last 20 years!

I had no idea it existed until it came on Netflix. I thought it would be childish but far from it. The first 2 episodes are rocky and Dal's character takes a bit of time to settle down and not be annoying but once the other characters start to shine it goes into warp and shines.

It was also nice to have so many episodes that told the story and that there was a satisfying conclusion to this crews adventure.

I really hope it's discovered by more fans and we can get more.

When you stumble onto a beautiful Masterpiece
I want to scream how good this is from the roof tops! Everything... the visuals are breathtaking, the story is honest and the voice acting is top notch.

I'm not smart enough to tell you why it's amazing... every episode is so well crafted and honesty the best thing I have watch this year, including live action film & tv. I'm a fan of anime but often the substance isn't there. This is quality with a massive heart.

All of the characters get time to grow. You fall in love with them and their faults.

This is not one for kids. It is unashamedly adult and erotic as much as its violent. But it isn't done for shock and always for the sake of the story.

I can't wait for the story to continue and thank you Netflix for making this. (You don't hear that often)

Stargate Universe
(2009)

One of the most underrated sci-fi series ever made
SGU seemed to be frowned on from the fan base but as someone that saw the original in a theatre and watched every episode of SG-1 and Atlantis I loved every minute of this. I love the exploration and gradual discovery of the ship.

One thing I didn't like about Atlantis was the fact they had a whole city to explore and rarely did.

I can understand the new BSG style and ongoing story was a different approach but it was fresh. And the characters were fantastic and not clones of the previous iterations.

If there's a reboot I hope the SGU canon has a place in it.

The Orville
(2017)

Getting better with each season
Season 3 has been a tour de force so far. Fantastic stories characters and effects. Fun but not afraid of being emotional. Topical in an intelligent way instead of mindless woke.

Loving it!

Interceptor
(2022)

Oh come on... it was fun.
I've missed the stupid action hero's of the 80s & 90. It disengage my brain for 1hr 30 mins and that what I need at the moment.

Acting was dreadful but it fit the genre and reminded me of the straight to video movies you took a punt on for a Friday night.

Halo
(2022)

Played the games and loved this so far
I'm onto episode 5 and so far I'm loving it. I've played all the games and there very little story for a series like this to dig into. What Halo has is a fabulous world to create a story within.

I'm not without my gripes. The kid is not needed and I'm sure is a means to future story but at the moment her journey is the worst part of the show.

I love Pablo Tell Schreiber as an actor but he takes his helmet off at every opportunity. He really doesn't need to and I'm sure it will piss fans off. If Pedro Pascal can act without removing his helmet in the The Mandalorian then he can. The armour really looks weird without a helmet.

Cortarna's voice over is a little jarring. Almost like it has been added badly. And would prefer her as the small game version rather than full size when you see her.

Otherwise the effects, suits and props are dead on the money. I hope they don't reach one of the Halo platforms until the end of this series and spend the whole of the next exploring a ring world.

It's got great potential and really hope it's a success.

Army of the Dead
(2021)

Aliens Clone
Did anyone else spot the direct Aliens dialogue and scenes? There homage and there's ripped. Disappointed Zach.

Nobody
(2021)

Total Escapism
Some of the 1 star bad reviews of this are either dishonest or don't understand any of the entertainment industry.

This is pure escapism. A joyful release of fantasy that I'm sure a lot of people need right now. People are complaining it's a John Wick clone. Of course it is, it was written by the same guy!

It's just so fun.

It's just what we all need after lockdowns. To act out and punch something!

Loved John Wick & loved every minute of this.

Hancock
(2008)

Rewatched for the 3rd or 4th Time & love it more
When this first came out I could take it or leave it. But there's something about it that makes me keep coming back.

Just watched it again and it still stands up. It's running time is refreshing, it's a stand alone that doesn't need expanding or a sequel. It's explained as much as it needs to and you fill in the gaps.

The performances are great and after just watching Jupiter's Legacy they aren't bad for the time.

What I'm trying to say is that Hancock is a grower that maybe didn't have the impact it should have done but helped tickle our taste buds for the MCU & DCU.

Could the last act have been improved... definitely but I personally love the switch in tone.

Jupiter's Legacy
(2021)

Enjoyable cheese
If I had watched Jupiter's Legacy 8 weeks ago I might have been more impressed but compared to Invincible this doesn't fair well. Although it's cheese I still enjoyed it. The flying effects really didn't work. Actors jumping about awkwardly doesn't cut it these days. It felt more like power rangers when we're used to the MCU or The Boys.

The world building still has a lot of holes that you want answered. Are all these super kids & villains all the first six hero's kids or the crew of the ship?

The ending was also a little awkward and didn't feel like series cliffhanger. Almost like a 2nd series was guaranteed when I worry it isn't.

Invincible
(2021)

My God where did this come from?
On episode 7 and this is outstanding. Totally gripping and Immersive. I stepped away from comics just before this was released so I have no clue on the story. It stands head & shoulders above "The boys", most of the MCU which is my great love and don't get me started on the DCU.

Can wait for the conclusion and hope there is loads more story content for the future.

Skylines
(2020)

Some people have a really low bar
I enjoyed Skyline, but this is trash. Incoherent, poorly acted and pointless. Those giving this a good review need to adjust their criteria for what makes a good movie.

Pacific Rim
(2021)

Reminds me of Zoids
There was a series called Zoids back in the day. I loved it. A pilot slowly developing his skills in a basic mech that also gets stronger. Can't wait for more episodes, Hope this doesn't fade into oblivion like a lot of Netflix original anime x

Star Trek: Lower Decks
(2020)

Compared to Discovery it should be a 10
Great show. Love the characters and quiet possibly the best Star Trek in the last decade.

Outside the Wire
(2021)

Great until the last 20 mins
If ever a 3rd act killed a good premise this did. Not sure how to review it without spoilers but this was promising. Great use of the Boston Dynamics Gumps. But then they are ditched. It's like the original writer was sacked and the replacement was a moron that decided to turn the 3rd act into a corny 80's straight to video, hole filled, waste of time.

Love and Monsters
(2020)

Pleasantly Surprised
Good old fashioned family movie. These tend not to be made anymore unless they are animated. Something for everyone. Would love a series or sequel x

Freaks
(2018)

A Movie of 2 Halves
The second half of this movie was extremely good. The first half pacing and story telling feels like a different movie. Starts as Cloverfield Lane then switch's to Firestarter and finally an X-Men movie. The first half is a real struggle though. Stick with it and you get rewarded but it's a slog.

The Emperor's New Groove
(2000)

Most Underrated Disney of all Time
The Deadpool of the Disney movies (before Disney owed Deadpool) Hilarious, creative and subversive!!

Locke & Key
(2020)

Loved it and can't wait for mor
Loved this show. There's loads in there with a lot of potential. I can't see why a lot of people are being so hard on it. Enjoyed the characters and the actors My one criticism was the lack of respect for the keys. Too many too soon. Hard to keep a track on who had what key and some seemed unimportant. Left lying around and and under used. The first season really should have focused on 3 or 4. A lot wasted potential by to much too soon. That to one side I enjoyed it immensely.

Love, Death & Robots
(2019)

You have to encourage art like this!!
Not every episode is a masterpiece but they are all beautiful. It's like SciFi heaven. I want to shake Netflix's hand for putting this together. I haven't enjoyed this type of thing since the Animatrix. It's just wonderful. I can't tell you my favs. I'd have to rewatch them all a few time to separate the good from the brilliant. Please encourage more of this!

The Predator
(2018)

Real missed opportunity
Black really has to be kicking himself here. He had a chance to really make a great movie but left the diamond in the rough. The diamond being "the lunitics". The beauty of the first movie and the second half of the sequel was the simplicity of the story... stop the predator from getting its trophy by self preservation. This movie should have been the lunitics vs the predator period. No rebels predators. No Aspergers kid. The government should have been background only. The story is a mess with only half assed rushed explanations to try and justify. Peripheral character are wasted and disappear. Why have Gary Buseys son in the movie to have him disappear? What happened to his wife after the house is attacked? This all waters down the real potential in the film. The unit of lunitics. Had they been fleshed out and developed in full they would have been all this needed to be a classic. Olivia Muns character was a great foil to them but it just doesn't get the screen time to develop. The jokes made me laugh in places but most missed. Because they were rushed. I love Thomas Jayne but the occasional Tourette's was a badly used joke. The predators did their job but the 2 halved any investment in them as adversary's. Their weapons, unclear and seemed to materialise out of thin air. The predator dog again was a good joke with no comedic timing and your left wondering what was the point. I know that the film had its problems in post and it shows. It's a real shame. The lunitics could have been characters that's you really wanted to rooted for. Turned into a force to be reckoned with but without the cold edge of a military team. Shane made real, avoidable mistakes here and give us another miss. It seems only Marvel seems to be able to take wealth of well written story's and use them as inspiration to make something great. But like many others such as the alien franchise, the predator refuses dip into it.

Cloak & Dagger
(2018)

Great start!
I can't wait to watch more of this. Character are real and well thought out. Great powers and loads of scope for development. Production could do with a little more money invested for the visuals but that's not important. I always loved the comic characters but they were generally background characters that supported other lines like Power Pack. There is great potential here as long as they keep story first. Good luck x

Lost in Space
(2018)

A good balance with loads scope to grow
I seriously can't understand these 1 or 2 star reviews. I'm half way through the first season and loving it. It has a great balance of good acting, reasonable story, amazing visuals as well as thrills. I read one review that said he binged the whole season in one day but only gave it 2 stars?? If it's good enough to not stop watching it, it deserve more than that?? The original was 60s fluff. You can only take the premise and bones of the show in the modern age and run with it which is why is a great property to work with. The family work well together and you really want to know more about them. Doctor Smith is fantastic. Beautifully manipulative and one that you hate intensely one minute and then feel sorry for the next. Dark shades of grey make the best baddies. Don is fun and will develop I'm sure as will the story and I can't wait to find out how everything connects. We lose so many great shows before they can hit their strides because of binary reviews and ratings it really frustrates me. There is nothing except a few story driven, science bending, mistakes. So what. If I need a tv show to teach me science I'm in the wrong place. I want to be entertained and I am.
