Some Guy Who Kills People
(2011)

Beautiful and brilliant
Loved it! I have to admit from the title I was expecting some mindless comedy that was just "OK". It only took me 15min to realized that I was in for a rare treat. I thought this movie was beautiful, brilliant, dark, hilarious and touching. In my experience its rare to find a movie in the horror genre that could even come close to fitting in all of these categories.

Ken Boyd, an artistic and depressed man is recently released from the mental hospital, lives with his sarcastic Mother, who loves him but picks at him any chance she gets. Its seems that Ken wants to live his life as cocooned as possible until his path crosses with the chatty outgoing Amy, who tries to push him out of his cocooned depression.

Ariel Gade, who plays Amy was almost like a light cast on the darkness of the film. She was perfect for this part and one couldn't help smiling every time she came on screen. Then there is the sheriff, this guy was hilarious and play his character perfectly. Karen Black, Ken's Mother, played the perfect Mother, who loved her Son very much but has no expectations of her Son and makes it known she thinks he's a low life.

Add all these colourful characters together and add some Slasher to it and you come out with one the most brilliant horror films I have ever come across.

Definitely recommend this one to anyone and if you miss this one, you are missing out.

The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)
(2011)

Cut Version - disappointed overall but it was OK
I was so sad and so disappointed with this one. This is one of those movies where you wait in anticipation for months and months and are filled with joy when you are finally able to watch it (yes, I love my horror films lol).

To start off my review I wanted to point out that this movie to me was very tame compared to many, many others I have seen. Sure, this movie would probably be way over the top to someone who doesn't watch these types of things but I'm guessing its mostly people like me who would actually see this movie and as I said before… this movie was mighty tame for me.

I did like that there was a storyline. I think that maybe they could have done much more with the movie by focusing on the storyline if they were taking out the gore. If a movie doesn't succeed in achieving the one thing its advertising its going to do… and that's provide gore and make the audience sick… well then I think it failed in some sense.

I also wanted to add that I did see the cut version (2+ min cut out of the movie) so this may have something to do with the tameness of the movie. I did see a listing of what was deleted and it does sound pretty bad. I have a serious problem with censorship as most of us decent people who are mature adult are. If you're of age you should be able to make the choice for yourself of what you want to view. I always thought how lucky I am that I live in a world where there is freedom of speech, freedom of choice and just freedom overall…. But I guess we really don't, do we.

Overall OK movie. Considering that I LOVED the first one and think of it as one of my top ten all time favourites I was extremely disappointed. I believe it was because of all of the hype (and I've been through this before) you think your going to watch something crazy and it turns out to be just like all the other movies with just a touch more nastiness.

I don't want to rag on the movie too much but that's what happens when you advertise the extremeness of a movie that doesn't quite fit the bill. As I said I enjoyed that it actually had a story and without writing about any spoilers I also enjoyed some of the things they added that connected to the first movie.

Megan Is Missing
(2011)

Important movie that packs a hard punch
I had no clue what this movie was about when I started watching it. Based on the name and considering I read absolutely nothing about it I assumed it must be some sort of teeny bop slasher. To be honest I almost turned this off within the first 20min. I kept looking at my Fiancée unimpressed and asking him if this is what the whole movie was about.

For the most part this movie follows two 14 year old girls and their complicated lives of living as young teens. It shows the silly things teens care about, the stupid things they do and their obnoxious behaviour. As I said, I almost turned this off thinking it would turn into some sort of Jersey Shore episode.

After a while the storyline changed into a beautiful story about two little girls and their intense bond to each other. This is where I began to fall in love with the two main characters. Megan, has some serious problems in her life and you begin to understand why she does what she does. She's outgoing, pretty, has a great sense of humour and loves to party hardcore. Amy, shy, sweet and insecure idolizes Megan and has an intense bond with her. Both of these characters begin to have so much depth you begin to feel bonded with them.

The movie goes on and focuses on how teens nowadays use cameras to chat with boys. They meet random boys online to chat with and this is where their problems begin. Megan, who seems to be looking for a boy who wont treat her like a piece of meat meets a boy online (who says his camera broke so she cant see him) named "Josh". Josh is so sweet, says all the right things and sends her photos of a cute boy saying it's him. Megan is hooked.

I won't go on to tell the whole story but I do want to add that this movie disturbed me greatly. There are only two other movies I can think of that disturbed me like this and those are Baby Blues and The Girl Next Door. Maybe those two had more violence but this movie almost made me sick just like those two did.

This is an important subject, with teens and their insecurity problems and naivety it's too easy to lure them on the internet. Yes this movie packs a punch and is shocking and sick but if that's what people have to do to let parents know what's happening in the world today then more power to the director of this film.

Shark Night 3D
(2011)

Not too bad IF you enjoy these types of films
I went into this movie thinking I was going to be bored to death. The only reason why we saw this was because it was a holiday, hardly anything was open and we were going stir crazy at home. I've said this before and I will say this again… I love my gore, I love my violence and I love my crazy horror movies. Once you put a PG rating on something I instantly loose my interest.

After all that being said it turned out that I really enjoyed this movie. Of course I should have known this. For one I LOVE shark movies, I love teen screams, I love those goofy Sci-Fi channel horror movies with the cheese graphics. My Fiancée on the other hand did not like this movie but he never did like these sort of teeny bop things.

This movie is extremely teeny boppy, the lingo, the acting, the drama. The characters are the same hollow but hot bunch of college kids we see in all of these types of movies. So I wouldn't go in expecting anything deep from the characters or script. There was a lot of blood but it was mostly just someone being pulled under the water and buckets of blood being shown floating around them. You never actually see any gore or any attack close up.

The sharks for the most part were silly. I thought it was cool but it was very unrealistic which sort of killed it for me as well. We kept thinking the storyline would explain why these sharks were super ninja sharks. They were ridiculously fast, jumped way too high and there teeth were almost like metal'ish spikes. Apparently it was only part of the movie as they never explain anything as to why they were super sharks.

This movie was not bad IF you like this sort of thing. It wasn't particularly funny, or deep, the graphics sucked, it was rated PG… but if like me you love the things I listed in the second paragraph, you may enjoy this.

Atrocious
(2010)

Could have been great if it was cut down to half the time...
This movie would have been awesome if it was cut down to about 30 min. I was excited about this movie hoping it would give me the same chills that "The Blair Witch" gave me when I first saw it and to its credit it did… to an extent. I found that this movie spend the majority of the time running around aimlessly in the woods breathing overly heavily with absolutely nothing happening. These scenes got very boring, very fast.

I felt that these overly long scenes killed it for me. At times I felt chills at the back of my neck and that paranoid feeling I get when I'm scared watching a movie and then quickly that would fade away to boredom and annoyance due to a scene that was ridiculously long.

To the movies credit, if they cut those horribly boring long scenes this would have been a great movie. I loved the relationship between the Brother and Sister and how they would go out and explore together even though they were not allowed. It reminded me of my Sister and I when we were younger.

I also loved the whole storyline with a really awesome twist at the end. I loved the creepy maze, creepy house, creepy basement, creepy ghost stories and Etc. There was so much amazing about this movie but when you add overly long scenes of someone annoyingly breathing super close into a mic and a camera shaking and running so much you cant even see what's going on it absolutely kills anything good and creepy about the movie.

The Violent Kind
(2010)

Strange and bizarre yet totally captivating
What a refreshing, fun yet gory film. I went into this thinking it was going to be your typical possession or slasher'ish type film and the beginning of the movie started to prove that I wasn't wrong. With its opening scene of loud rough sex inside and a bunch of bikers kicking the crap out of two guys outside I settled in for what I thought would be a mindless horror film that was entertaining but without much depths. I was wrong.

I can't get too much into the plot as the movie packs a surprising punch near the end but the ride to the twist was definitely a fun one. I can say that even though the movie started off as your typical horror film with its drunken party, slutty girls and drama when the party ends, that's when the fun begins.

The film starts to get very strange when a gang of 50's era punks show up looking for one of the girls at the party. I loved that they added this and found it refreshing as its nothing I have ever seen before. The gang ends up having an odd sense of humour and uses it to amuse themselves with their hostages in a series of bizarre games and such.

Overall great flick, delivers on the gore, acting, storyline all topped off with quite an amazing twist. This movie would be great for most non-mainstream horror movie lovers.

In My Sleep
(2010)

Boring...
Wow… im not sure what to say about this movie. I guess I can start by going over the plot.

Scene 1: Man goes to sleep… man wakes up and see's blood! Scene 2: Man goes to sleep… man wakes up and see's blood!! Scene 3: Man goes to sleep… man wakes up and see's blood!!!

So ya. You get it so I won't go on. Of course there was a pretty crazy storyline that would have been awesome if the whole movie wasn't just this guy going to sleep and waking up with blood on him. I kept expecting something to happen other then this guy going to sleep and waking up… but nothing ever did happen. There is some dialogue in the movie obviously which explains the story but that's all it was… dialogue. Nothing more.

This may be a great film for someone who loves a thriller with no gore or action just loves the whole mystery behind it all as it slowly unfolds, so ya, I get the good reviews. I am not that person. I need action, I need to see what's going on, I need a little bit of scare. This movie was not for me.

Open Water 2: Adrift
(2006)

The sharks sucked in this movie...
I LOVE shark movies! Ever since I saw Jaws as a child I vowed to see every single shark movie ever made. When I saw this movie on NetFlix I was super happy, got myself a nice glass of wine, dimmed the lights and settled in for what I thought would be a shark fest of fun.

The movie starts off like most teenybopper type movies. A group of BFF's party it up and have a good old silly time together. They board their annoying arrogant friend's super yacht and have fun dancing, drinking and doing what young people do. They decide to go swimming in the ocean but being foolish and young they don't think to put the ladder down and opppps! they end up in quite the predicament.

The rest of the movie is spent listening to them whine and complain in the most annoying way. For the most part they end up doing stupid things that seem unrealistic but I can only assume this was filler since there is not much to show when you throw some people into the ocean with absolutely no other storyline other then that.

Some of the camera angles were quite scary when you are expecting a shark to come up and get his feast on. Scary underwater sounds, the darkness of the water, feet dangling treading water just taunting those hungry sharks. It would have made for a creepy suspenseful film except wait… where are the sharks?! I can't for the life of me figure out where the sharks went? Was this not a sequel? I cant imagine Harry Potter without Harry, Nightmare on Elmstreet without Freddy, what about Spiderman without Peter Parker! The only thing I can imagine was they were looking to make some quick easy money so they put a title on it that would attract.

I can forgive this if it was even remotely entertaining. As I stated above, there really isn't much you can do in 1.5 hours with a few folks dangling aimlessly in a huge ocean with nothing to do but be annoying.

Overall I wasn't that entertained. I've seen worse but I wouldn't recommend this movie to my friends. I'm still wondering where those sharks went though….

Red White & Blue
(2010)

An emotional roller-coaster from beginning to end
This movie really affected me right from the beginning. I felt drawn in hanging onto every word and movement of Emily (The main female character) and Nate (The post traumatic Iraq war Veteran).

Unfortunately I can't really go into too much detail on the plot creating a rather boring review but I really wanted to let people know just how enticing and well made this movie was. This was one of the best Drama revenge movies I have ever seen. It was so realistic to me it was like watching something real. The emotions I felt towards the characters is not something I normally experience in watching a movie but the bleakness and story lines of each character was just so real to me.

I found the relationship between Emily and Nate to be especially captivating. Two outcasts who are thoroughly screwed up very slowly make this special bond that they seemed to never have in life before. You don't really know what to make of the two with his history of torture and hers of being extremely unemotional and sexually promiscuous. You're not really sure what to make of the relationship until things unfold and you realize what's really going on.

Franki, the third main character in the movie is your typical stupid kid whose dreams are to make it big with his band. He cares for and loves his cancer stricken Mother very much. When he has an encounter with Emily it causes his whole world to spin out of control and loses his sanity.

If you miss this movie you are missing out on a good one. I went in thinking it would be a gore feast but it wasn't, it was actually very tame on the gore. Instead I went through an emotional roller-coaster that lasted from beginning to end. This movie is a must see.

Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus
(2010)

Fun and horrible at the same time!
What do you get when you combine a sweaty, dirty guy whose favorite pastime is sexually harassing women, a hot female secret service agent who needs some serious counselling in anger management and Urkel, all combat styled out…. You get a lean, mean mega shark/crocosaurus fighting machine! This movie was horrible… BUT… that's what makes it so awesome! I loved this movie, its horrible graphic were funny, its script and acting ridiculous and the storyline was basic yet captivating.

I think this type of movie is an acquired taste. Those of us that love this silly type of movie will enjoy this gem. Others, who are not as easily amused will turn it off within the first 5 min.

Feed
(2005)

Interesting, disgusting and strange film
This was an interesting, disgusting and strange film. This film tells the story of a serial killer with a fetish for obese women who force feeds them and takes bets online as to when they will die.

What I thought interesting about this film was that even though this guy was obviously insane and he's sole goal was to kill these woman he had such a love and tenderness for them. He spoiled them with everything they desired, he washed them tenderly, entertained them by being silly, there was no end to what he would do for these women. Of course, with his dark side there were some times where he would snap and since the women loved him so much they would do anything for him, even if it meant being in a lot of pain and feeling sick.

I enjoyed this movie and lots of credit for being original. I also have to add that this movie has a kick ass ending as well! ZombieSteak.com - Discover a new world of horror films, designed just for you.

Sheitan
(2006)

Hilarious with a side of gore
This movie was hilarious! I loved the characters in this film all with their own goofy, perverted and dumbass college aged personalities. It seemed to me that I laughed throughout most of the film but there was still enough gore and horror to keep me interested in the horror side of it.

Another thing I can say about this movie was there was a lot of "WTF!" moments. I also have to add that this movie has the nastiest description of a woman's private parts I have ever heard and still shake my head in disgust and amusement at it even days later.

I don't want to go into it too much but this movie has become high up on my list for movies I would recommend to people. It is politically incorrect and has constant references to racism, but its more to add to the uneducated hillbilly type character that plays in the movie.

If you haven't seen this, watch it. It is one of the funniest horror films I have ever seen.

YellowBrickRoad
(2010)

Boring
Horrible movie, I truly believe this was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. We watched this movie in two nights as the first night I fell asleep less then half way through. Thinking I was just tired we attempted the next night where again, I fell asleep for just a second and spent the rest of the movie trying my hardest to stay awake.

To the credit of the movie, the acting was great, cinematography was great and the plot was super creepy and interesting…. But the execution and writing was just down right horrible. I truly believe if this movie had been done a different way it could have made a really scary chills up your back movie… but it didn't and as I said before, probably one of the most boring films I have ever seen.

Trolljegeren
(2010)

Love it!
This was such a fun movie! I mean really, I can't think of anything cooler then a bunch of dumb Trolls, some as tall as a high rise running around all angrily.

I think this movie can be compared to a low budget, more of a comedy, not as great graphics to Cloverfield. Both have pretty much the same concept except filmed differently.

As a low budget movie was it was filmed beautifully, some of the scenery in this movie was spectacular. The acting was above par, script was funny and interesting. Overall this was a great movie! I also have to say the Trolls were much better then i had expected! ZombieSteak.com - Discover a new world of horror films, designed just for you.

Broken
(2006)

Realistic and chilling
This movie begins with a brutal opening scene which sets a very dark and horrifying tone for the rest of the movie. I think what I loved most about Broken was the connection between the victim and villain. I don't want to get too much into the plot but the deeper and unspoken aspect of how the relationship worked between the two seemed so realistic to me that it made it much more real and creepy. This movie made it seem like this situation could happen to just anyone.

I loved the main actress and thought she did a wonderful job playing the victim and then adjusting to her surroundings in order to be able to survive. Another thing that made it more realistic was she was just a normal woman. Gone was the Hollywood girls with big hair, short skirts and huge fake boobs. This was your average attractive woman, single mom, lonely and looking for love. She was human… not some airheaded college student who runs upstairs when the door is downstairs. She made this movie seem that much more real to me.

I also found the camera work to be dark and despairing. They were outside, yet the atmosphere was dark and gray. It looked cold and everything looked sad and morbid.

I truly enjoyed this movie. A very nice surprise for a movie that is super low budget. One thing I would like to add about this movie was that they were comparing it to Saw. I think that this comparison ruined the movie for some folks as they watched it expecting a Saw type thing and ended up watching something completely different, not even comparable. I don't know why they would make that comparison, it only seemed to hurt the reviews.

Overall a great film that pulled me in right from the beginning.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil
(2010)

Hilarious!
This movie made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes multiple times. A hilarious story about two seemingly dumb but sweet hillbillies who come across some preppy over-dramatic college students who become convinced Tucker and Dale are deranged serial killers.

This move is like your typical hillbilly slasher flick if everyone was totally stereotypical and dumb.

This movie was full of fun, gore and a super hilarious script all while totally being original and unique to any other horror film I have seen. Loved it!

Shadow
(2009)

A whirlwind of a ride!
I found this movie surprisingly amazing! It was a total fluke that we watched this as we settled in to watch a movie way too late and wanted to pick one quickly. To our luck we ended up picking this one based on the cover (Netflix).

Two people alone in the woods anger two crazy hillbillies. Sounds like your typical slasher film right? Half way through the movie they add a little bit of a twist and add some ghosts stalking everyone in the woods. Sounds like a ghost movie now? Well now add in some crazy looking guy that could be the long lost Uncle of the monsters from the movie "The Descent" who is obsessed with the holocaust and Dr. Mengele's human experiments. What do you have now? With all mentioned above it may sound confusing but it isn't when at the end the Directors message packs a hard punch with an incredible twist.

I love when I watched a movie expecting nothing too special and end up watching a great flick like this one. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time in this film, wonderfully made horror film, the type of perfect horror movie that sucks you in.

Mammoth
(2006)

Fun in a silly way
I don't have any children myself, but I do know when I go to parties or visit families who have children usually there is a movie being played on TV that is focused towards kids…. This is what this movie reminded me of.

This movie wasn't bad, but if you go into this movie thinking it's going to be amazing you will be disappointed. The script was sort of silly, like I mentioned above it was very "childlike" with its jokes and stuff. The graphics were pretty bad and I didn't even realize half of the storyline until I read the actual description on this site. Aside from all of that it was such a cute and endearing movie I have to admit I really enjoyed it.

I will call this movie cute and silly if you don't take it too seriously you will probably enjoy it. It did remind me somewhat of Men in Black with its "Alien Detectives" with a little bit of the corniness of the movies from the 50's and 60's.

Aftermath
(1994)

Boring and rubbery
I noticed that this movie was in quite a few individual "most disturbing" "sickest" "goriest" top ten movies lists so I did what any decent person would do and looked it up on Netflix.

Yes, this movie is pretty sick and twisted which in most cases I can appreciate but I found this movie to be a complete bore. I think because I found it so boring I missed the whole nastiness of it and my fiancée and I spent the whole time making up these cheesy one liner jokes throughout the film.

The special effects were horrible as well and consisted of rubbery looking body and body parts. I get it, it's a shock movie, made to get under your skin and make you want to vomit, but it was boring to me… I still felt sick watching it… but boringly sick. I love shock films, but with all the new ones coming out that aren't silly, look real and actually have a character connection this really paled in comparison. This has to be the only shock extreme gore film I have ever laughed at.

Senseless
(2008)

Like SAW/Hostel but better
This movie is somewhat comparable to the SAW/Hostel type movie but in my opinion it was much better. Overall this movie was greatly produced and acted and I felt sucked into this movie almost from the start of it. The torture is horrible as most torture movies are but you feel so connected to this flawed main character you can't help but watch the whole time rooting for him to get back at his captures.

I also have to give credit to the villain. His friendly and super polite manner just made him seem so much more wicked and evil. As he descended deeper into his madness he became out of control with anger but still kept his polite and friendly manner making you want to hate him more.

I loved the lighting in this movie as well. Everything seemed so bright from his hospital looking prison to his flashbacks on life. Great movie overall, I enjoyed every second of it.

Johnny Got His Gun
(1971)

Amazing!
More often then not I am unimpressed by older horror movies that other people rave about unless they scared the crap out of me when I was a child. This movie was an exception. I watched this for the first time and spent the majority of it tense with chills running down my spine.

What could be worse then death? Watch this movie and you will see. Imagine you wake up with no arms, legs, you cant see or hear and your face is gone leaving a gaping hole where it used to be. This movie takes you're through that journey through the narration of the young man placed in this horrible position.

This movie takes you on an emotional journey and sucks you into the story immediately. I just cant believe I never saw this earlier, but I am glad I didn't miss it.

Zombie Honeymoon
(2004)

Meh....
I loved the storyline, but I'm not sure if I liked the movie. Maybe it was too emotional for me, maybe it was too serious, maybe it had too much drama and too little horror, I don't know what it was but I do know I was bored throughout most of it.

The movie starts off with an overly obnoxious couple who were way too giddy for me not to be annoyed. Ya, I get it, you just got married but they more acted like a ten year old who just got his first transformer, then an adult couple. Another thing that bothered me about this movie was in order to make the audience "get the picture" they would have scenes where nothing was going on, no sounds, no movement, just sad faces for what seemed like an eternity.

If you are looking for a sweet "love" story that more fits a horror movie rather then a drama with some blood I would recommended David Morlet's "Mutants" (2009). Now that was a good horror movie about a relationship trying to survive through the odds.

Dahmer
(2002)

This movie was OK overall
This movie was OK overall but considering how low budget it was I would say it was very well made. Dahmer is an interesting character and having read his biography I came away from this feeling much different then I did from reading the book. I found the movie didn't quite reach its goal in capturing the full extend of Dahmers incurable loneliness. It did however capture just how troubled this man really was.

As for the crimes it didn't even come close to showing what he really did. Little glimpses of it here and there just showed a fraction of what this horrible person was about.

I did enjoy this film and thought Jeremy Renner did an amazing job in this role. I was excepting something totally different then what this movie showed but I wasn't disappointed. A little bit slow to begin with but interesting enough to keep you watching.

Beautiful Film
This is a beautifully gruesome film. The visuals and music in this movie are amazing and draws you into this woman's life of mental anguish and bad luck.

The Meat Grinder is almost like your basic torture gore fest but Tiwa Moeithaisong makes it so much more then that and turns it into an enthralling, vibrant film that sucks you in entirely and plays with your emotions. This is a very sad, beautiful, spell binding film about a woman in love facing the demons of her past.

Schramm
(1993)

Realistic way to go into the mind of a serial killer
This was an interesting film. I think this is the type of film that people either love or hate and it's not something you can really recommend to people since people need to enjoy these types of movies.

I must give credit for really going into the mind of a serial killer in a realistic way. This wasn't a gore feast of an angry guy running around killing people. This was a very lonely man who felt bad for what he did and without a word he expressed how guilty he was and the mental anguish he felt for what he was doing. You could tell the guy hated himself for what he did and all of this was explained silently and realistically.

The thing that sticks out the most when I think about this movie is character connection. I find in a lot of scary movies they just can't quite grab me on that one. This movie I felt very connected to the character especially the serial killers friend and love, his neighbour the prostitute. I loved her character and really wanted to hear her story and see more of her.
