The Chew
(2011)

Love this show!
I can't understand why so many negative reviews of The Chew! I really like this show! All of the cooks seem very friendly, and it seems they're just having a good time doing what they're doing - cooking and entertaining. I suppose another reason I like this show is the hosts just seem so normal. I don't think any of them are celebrity chefs. They're just people sharing their passion for delicious food.

I must admit, I haven't tried making very many of recipes on The Chew, but many of them do look simple and delicious.

This show adds variety to the typical cooking show, with silly games for the audience members, and having guest cooks.

The Chew is very watchable day time programming and a good way to pass time.

Cristela
(2014)

Cleverly different!
To see a regular TV sit com that is actually funny is rare. This show is the rarity. Cristela Alonzo has a quick wit and she's clever - a rare combination with television today.

There are plenty of not-so-positive Mexican jokes packed into the show; Cristela turns the negative to positive with her quick retorts. Her mother, who immigrated from Mexico, always plays the downer, nagging at Cristela for pursuing her dreams. But both Cristela and her sister make light of their mother's negativity by humorously playing off it.

I've only seen one episode of Cristela, but I intend on becoming a regular viewer. It's refreshing to find intelligent, funny television on a non-pay channel.

The Machine
(2013)

Thought provoking movie
Okay, so I read quite a few negative reviews about this movie, which made me hesitant about even watching it. I'm glad I don't always trust the reviews!

The Machine is a very thought provoking sci-fi film that has a very dark feel to it. The producers really set the genre up well, and stuck with it - which is good!

Yeah, the acting could have been better, but hey, sometimes we can't have the best of everything. Caty Lotz does a pretty convincing job of playing 'The Machine', and she's pretty easy on the eyes to boot - which is a bonus!

There are several scenes which show the humanoids speaking with one another, which was annoying. Mainly because there aren't any machine-to- human subtitles available with the film. Who knows what they were discussing?!? (I won't say any more - no spoilers!)

All in all, The Machine is a pretty good sci-fi flick. You just have to overlook some of the poor acting and get immersed in the story - chill with the criticism and go along for the ride.

Arrested Development
(2003)

the bar has hit rock bottom...
I thought I would give Arrested Development a watch since it has been getting so many rave reviews. I acquired all three seasons, and after watching 2.5 episodes, I'm really disappointed.

First, the humor is so predictable in this show. All of the characters act like complete idiots and you always know when something stupid is going to come out of their mouths. Michael is the only normal character, which makes one wonder why he puts up with the the other ones in the first place.

Has the bar for quality television been lowered so far as to give a show like Arrested Development such a stellar rating? Apparently so. This show reminds of Family Guy but with real people doing the acting. Even the little 'off screen shots' are similar to that of The Family Guy.

I've gotta say though, Family Guy is funnier! At least it's a cartoon and there's an excuse for the stupidity.

This Is 40
(2012)

Hilarious movie!
I'm 42 years old, and I could relate to a lot of what the characters in this movie were going through. Granted, all of the problems the family faced were over dramatized, but that just made the movie all that more fun. I seriously laughed so hard in some parts my sides were hurting!

If you want to see a light-hearted, over the top comedy, then this is the film for you. I've read other peoples' reviews and complaints about the actors dropping the 'f-bomb' too much...but that's just how this family rolls! Some do, some don't...get over it!

In my opinion, this was an excellent film and it's well worth seeing. In fact, I might just go and watch it again!

A Better Life
(2011)

fantastic movie - a real tear jerker
This movie was beautifully done. It gave me a completely different perspective on the plight of the illegal alien.

The bond between the father and the son were wonderfully portrayed in this movie. Anyone that has kids will be able to relate - the father just wants more for his son.

The plight of the Mexican is a bit of a lose - lose situation, as this film demonstrates. There is nothing for them in their own country; America is their only hope. Anyone would do the same thing as the lead character in this film - take the dangerous risk of immigrating to America - by whatever means necessary.

Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown
(2011)

Lame ass movie
This movie is Facebook meets MMA. There's even a lead character in the movie that curiously resembles Mark Zuckerberg. To break this horrible film down simply, it revolves around a college 'beat down' tournament organized by the Mark Zuckerberg character. A bunch of freshman want to compete in the tournament for their own very personal reasons - for example, one kid's dad left his mom for another man...whoa!! There aren't many fight scenes, which was really disappointing. What really put the crappy icing on the cake for me was the MMA Master Trainer. He's a typical black ex-con type, and guess what? He lives in a trailer on an abandoned property. He can't afford a place of his own, so all he does is train and fight. How predictable can it get??
