Sleeping with the Enemy
(1991)

Not a great "Match" in heaven
Julia Roberts is great in Pretty Woman and Steel Magnolias. In this film, she plays Laura,a wife who finds herself tied to Martin(Patrick Bergin) a wife-beater;Martin is controlling, and Laura only sees his behavior worsening. The drama unfolds, when they're on a friend's boat. Laura uses the storm to escape her misfortune.Martin gets a call from a friend, who suddenly makes him realize he was lied to.

Laura moves away and relaxes after a time. She then meets a sweet friend who helps her get over the misery. Martin goes to the university and checks out a friend of Laura's.When he learns of her location,Martin hunts her down; Laura then realizes things "mysteriously" change position and the pace moves faster. The ending comes, when the two are by the stairway.Laura finally finds the guts to shoot her stalker dead.

What's Love Got to Do with It
(1993)

Sizzle and Rock
This film portrayed the experience of Tina Turner, one of Rock and Roll's popular artists.I love Bassett, and feel the tense drama of Tina's struggle with finding herself.Tina had to deal with Ike(Fishbourne) bullying, taking over her dignity and self-respect.It is through the film, fans see the strength Tina possessed.Like a robot,Tina took orders and tried to satisfy Ike's whims.

After the divorce, fans realize that Tina shone and came alive.Tina Turner was reborn and found herself. The real Tina came alive, and fans are really grateful to hear the new "Tina sound".More power to the new Tina!

Last Vegas
(2013)

Old Time Reunion
I love this film,as it makes me feel that age is really only a "number";Four friends grow old and reunite again for a pal's wedding.Archie (Freeman),Sam (Kline) and Paddy (DiNiro) unite in Las Vegas to join in the wedding of their pal Billy (Douglas). It turns out that some old wounds never die.Widower Paddy gets hurt, when Billy misses the wife's funeral. The pals embrace the words of Viva Las Vegas (Presley tune) and share in hope and fun.The twist in the plot,Billy falls for a Vegas lounge singer(Mary Steenburgen,)and then the fiancée finds out the initial plan.It is sweet, when the guys get "grooving" at the bachelor party.

This movie is cute and wonderful.Bravo to the cast, for this romantic honey of a film!

The Mask
(1994)

Slapstick comedy that makes the world fixable
Jim Carrey (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) is a zany comic who adds fun to any role he plays; Cameron Diaz (Head Above Water)is a wonderful talent in many films. In The Mask,we find Ipkiss(Carrey),getting bored with his everyday ho-hum bank job;On a chance,Stanley finds this mask that reaches inside to bring out retribution for the world's hard luck.As it happens,Diaz plays the lounge singer Ipkiss falls in love with.Dorian,a co- worker at the lounge, gets upset when Ipkiss (as the masked hero) averts his threat to steal all the savings. The cutest character is Milo, who plays Stanley's lovable pooch.

I call this a marvelous film that really tickles the clichéd "funny bone".Bravo and cheers!

Mrs. Doubtfire
(1993)

He's A Lady
Robin Williams(Popeye)and Sally Field(Eye For An Eye) are uniquely talented individuals; Here, they portray father and mother to Chris,Natalie and Lydia. Somehow,Daniel Hillard (Williams) is out of work and he gets hit with a hard blow. His wife Miranda (Field),is suddenly angry and fed up with his behavior and actions. On the birthday of Chris, she comes home early to find Daniel and the kids dancing and having a ruckus.Miranda furiously screams that she wants a Divorce.

When Miranda is given custody of the children,Daniel does not take it too easily. With brother Jack (Fierstein),Daniel disguises himself as a homely maid.He reads the newspaper,to come up with the moniker Mrs. Doubtfire and suddenly joy and life springs throughout the home.Unfortunately, things do not go as planned. On the eve of Miranda's birthday,Daniel finds himself in a bind, between the dinner date and a job interview. The "gig is up",when Daniel is clothed as Mrs Doubfire and saves choking Stu (Miranda's boyfriend played by suave actor Pierce Brosnan). At the end,Daniel repairs the relationship with Miranda and is allowed to see the three kids after school. This film is wonderful, and I say Bravo to Field,Williams and Brosnan on their outstanding performance!

Quiz Show
(1994)

The glory of Television
During the "Golden age",Stemple(Turturro)and Van Doren(Fiennes),are characters that have a match in a widely popular game show;It seems that Stemple is jealous and needs money. He charges that the officials had promised him great riches by giving answers. When Van Doren takes the throne,he goes along with the fun and lives "high on the hog";It seems that this lack of intelligence would not befit a college professor,as his father acknowledges. With a vast array of sponsorships, the station seems a bit nonchalant in their practice.Van Doren carries a heavy weight and in the end,a confession lifts the burden from his heart.

The Santa Clause
(1994)

Warm Holiday "magic" to make us all believe
Watching this film,we may have a different attitude on the most important part of holidays;Scott Calvin (Allen), is a divorced father trying to share Christmas with his son Charlie(Eric Loyd). The moment of reality arises, when an unfortunate accident makes doubting Scott a new Santa. Through the film,Scott changes and grows more like the Santa image we all perceive to be real.As the medical community holds true to facts,Dr. Miller (Reinhold) is a noted psychiatrist. He feels the need to guide his stepson towards an honest path.

The elves guide the new Santa, in following scheduled time.Towards the end,we see Charlie and his family become adamant believers in "Jolly Old Saint Nick".I love this film, and am tickled pink at the joy and love it embodies.

2012
(2009)

One thrill ride of a Lifetime
I think there are many subtle hints, to the direction our Planet is heading.Writer Jackson(Cusack)discovers this radio character(played by Harrelson of Cheers fame).Through the announcement, there is an "earth shattering" message that government is selfish and greedy. Jackson, a divorced father, heeds the doomsday signal and tries to save his family from the forthcoming apocalyptic doom.Through earthquakes and flooding,it seems our planet faces the worse "wrath" of horror.

I enjoy the heart pulsing scenes of this film, and love the crazy action and drama. With a cast that includes Danny Glover as U.S. President Johnson, this film takes the viewer for one amazing "ride" Cheers and bravo, for this awesome movie!

The Karate Kid
(2010)

Added spark to original story
Jackie Chan(Mr. Han),gives life to the teacher/student relationship.Dre Parker(Jaden Smith)is interesting, as the young pupil. When a mother travels to China with her son,the youngster finds trouble with bullies. In befriending the local handyman,he learns valuable lessons in an ancient martial art form.As life is full of surprises,Dre(Smith) also is a comfort and helps the handyman deal with a personal issue in family.

Parker(Smith),forms a special relationship with a female schoolmate.Together, the youngsters build tolerance and understanding between the two families.Cheers to the cast, for a wonderful story of inspiration!

Due Date
(2010)

A zany, comical look at travel
**** Possible Spoiler**

Downey Jr. starred in such great films like U.S.Marshals,or Chances Are.In this film, he plays Highman; There are many friendship trek films, but Due Date may be somewhat funnier, even raunchier, with unmentionable scenes.Highman(Downey Jr) is the straight man who gets stuck with comical Tremblay(Galifianakis). What ensues, through this movie,is a race to share the most important aspect of humanity: Family time.Downey Jr. is a exceptional actor;I enjoy a giggle, and think he and Galifianakis earn cheers and applause for their wacky and corny performances, here!

Dancing with the Stars
(2005)

One and two and three, Dance!
Out of all the programs we see on television,I think "Dancing" has stood the test of time.Carrie Ann Inaba,Bruno Tunioli and Len Goodman are the judges who critique the moves and faults of 12 famed celebrities with their Professional dance partners. Each celebrity, goes through an intense training and workout to polish a specific routine. It is like "basic training" at dance school! I love this show, because the viewer realizes that we are all human and not perfect.Every person must work hard, at achieving a goal.Every week finds an elimination, where one pair is taken out by popular vote of the judges and by viewer response.

This show is so wonderful, and Goodman,Tunioli and Inaba help the celebrities realize there is so much fun on the dance floor.

Bravo to the cast for every amazing "transformation".

Twins
(1988)

Two Of a Kind
Both Devito and Schwarzenegger are really good actors. Here is a film that makes someone ponder about Nurture and Love.Devito plays Vincent,a sly,"son of a gun" who thinks he can get away with everything. When he gets into trouble, Vincent finds a pair of helping hands that belong to someone he can trust.Julius(Schwartzenneger)his brother,is a person we find who became part of an experimental study at birth. They need each other, and help one another find their lost mother.

Kelly Preston, plays Marnie, the girl Julius always dreamed about. It is saddening, when you see how intense and eager Vincent looks at his mom.His eyes are like a puppy searching for recognition and loving arms to hold.In finding out their mom still lived, their hopes were restored. This movie made me realize the power of Family.

She-Devil
(1989)

Wives don't get mad, they get even
Rosanne Barr and Meryl Streep are witty, funny, and shine in this tickler. Streep is great in such movies as Kramer vs Kramer,a heart tugging movie.Barr is spunky, and I loved her in her self-titled sitcom Roseanne. Here, the two ladies play rivals for the affections of a somewhat selfish, arrogant womanizer.Bob Patchett(Begley),has a roving eye. When his wife takes notice, she devises a plan to destroy him.Bob first gets cozy with Mary Fisher(Streep),a romance author.Mary has no morals, and woos him away from his family. When she becomes his wife,he starts getting "friendlier" with Olivia, who is not such a "honey",her real last name.

I love Linda Hunt, who plays Hooper,a registered nurse.Ruth makes it harder for Fisher to stay away from her mother. She devises a way to take Mrs. Fisher(nursing home resident),and keep her as a permanent fixture in the household. One may feel sorry for Andy and Nicolette, the children Ruth feels for.I love the ending, however, where the son and daughter turn out to be well-adjusted.Bravo, to Streep and Barr for this gag a minute riot.I love it!

Akeelah and the Bee
(2006)

Humility is a virtue
In this film we see two awesome superstars of Hollywood.Lawrence Fishbourne and Angela Bassett worked great together,in the Tina Turner biopic What's Love Got to Do With It; Here, Bassett plays a mother of a sweet young girl,Akeelah. After her father dies,Akeelah wants to pay honor to him,by entering a nationwide spelling bee.She learns some valuable lessons in her journey of "self discovery".I like the way she teaches her rival's father some important tools to learn.Through her brilliant "professor",Akeelah acquires humility, and understands that pride is a virtue that gets you nowhere in Life. Her rival's father learns that people are subject to downfall, and cannot "win" all the time.

I love this film and am amazed at the performances! Through Akeelah, everyone is "cut down" a notch lower than they believe they are. I say Bravo to the cast, who shine!

Mother
(1996)

Not "My Two Sons"
Albert Brooks and Debbie Reynolds star in this family mayhem of laughs; When A 40 year old sci-fi novelist tries to work out life and relationships, he wants to move back in with Momma(Reynolds). He wonders about his divorces, and hopes to solve his problem. Rob Morrow plays brother Jeff, someone who needs a bit of therapy himself. Lisa Kudrow, also stars as sister-in-law Linda.

What John realizes, is that his mom was not always "perfect" as he had imagined. Jeff, apparently gets messed-up, and John becomes the most well-adjusted son.

This viewer thinks crazy film is sweet, that you want to analyze your own Life as John does. Bravo and Wonderful!

Waitress
(2007)

Another movie about Unfaithfulness
I like Andy Griffith, for he plays a great father in The Andy Griffith Show. I think this is not the best show he has given. This film is so awful, because all we keep seeing is this girl and her doctor "get it on". Old Joe is a friend, but really does not help the situation. Keri Russell plays a pregnant girl on the skids with her boyfriend. She has an affair with her obstetrician and goes gaga over him. With all the movies about "lost Love" and "broken Hearts", I thought this wasn't so great at all. I don't know what message we send, but girls today need to be chaste, and a little "prim and proper".I feel true love is not physical, but felt in the heart.

Dad
(1989)

A Tug at heart of Family
A Family is so important in life, especially in times of crisis and turmoil.Danson(of Cheers fame),plays a divorced yuppie who must return home to care for his aging mother(Dukakis)and father(Lemmon). He has a son he hardly knows, and is overly obsessive in business. He is faced with the knowledge, of his father's shortcomings and weakness to stand up to a domineering wife.Lemmon plays a man resigned to her "take-over" attitude he accepts.

It is heart wrenching to face any diagnosis;Danson's character screams, when a doctor goes against his wishes of silence about the father's condition. It would show a poor lack of ethics in the medical community.I gather from the film, the importance of strengthening family ties and relationships. Life is unpredictable, but the certainty is true Love and compassion for others.

Only the Lonely
(1991)

Sometimes Momma doesn't know Better
I enjoy this sweet comedy, and find it to be really wonderful! Danny Muldoon(Candy),is a Chicago cop. When he falls in love with Theresa(Sheedy),a local morgue cosmetician,he finds that he must break some "rules";Classic actress Maureen O'Hara(Rose)plays Momma, a headstrong Irish with her own views. She does not like her son's new belle, and has her biased opinion on Love and Marriage.

We meet Nick(Quinn),the amorous neighbor; He tries to win Rose's heart over, but Rose doesn't take kindly to his romantic wooing. In Rose's overprotection, she tries to make her son guilty and sorry. In time,Danny learns,as in Kenny Roger's hit, "sometimes you got to fight to be a man".

Blind Date
(1987)

Briiliant & funny performance!
Bruce Willis is great,as a top notch action star.In this romantic slapstick,Walter is a businessman who loses face and all honor. He meets up with Nadia(marvelously played by (Basinger) who is knee-slapping hysterical. There is one disaster after another, when they go on a date and she gets totally drunk and wild. The hits keep coming, as Nadia is frantically romanced by an old boy friend (John Larroquette). When these three characters come together this side-splitting comedy makes you laugh at Love and how funny people try to win at this game. I enjoyed this Romance that is surely "made in Heaven". Love comes at a price, as this great film proves.

Reign Over Me
(2007)

Amazing and Profound
**Possible Spoiler*** Adam Sandler is usually typecast in Comedy, but in "Reign",gives a deeply moving performance. While there are people who showed Courage facing post September 11,2001,Sandler plays Fineman,a widower who is lonely and "lost in his own world".Johnson(Cheadle),a practicing dentist, encounters his old College buddy(Sandler)and wants to catch up on "Old times".We see,as in Rain Man(Dustin Hoffman),Fineman also gets emotional and withdrawn in stressful situations.Oldies music, appears to be a comfort and "Psychological" crutch for him to lean on.

Johnson looks for,in Fineman, that certain pleasure and ease missing in his Family. He also feels unhappy and unsatisfied in his Job.In the same instance,He also wants to make sure his friend does not fall through the social "cracks".I came away from this movie, with a different outlook and more sympathetic Compassion for grieving families.

Poseidon
(2006)

WOW, action but so-so
First of all, the movie did not come close to Suspense you find in the original. It's like BAM!, you're hit. With no time to think, the movie is over and you wonder where the hour and a half went.Somehow, even the line-up of Richard Dreyfuss and Kurt Russell did not improve anything here. The film lacked confrontation,as with Hackman and Borgnine, in original. We do not see two main leaders fighting for the "top". In the original, you had some tender, beautiful moments that this film lacked. Whereas Albertson,Buttons, and Borgnine gave their heart to make you cry, this film lacked time for grief, or sentimentality. In closing,I thought this movie could have done much better.

Duplicates
(1992)

A great Science mystery thrill
This film runs along the lines of A.I., and scientific experiments on Family and emotion. Greg Harrison and Beth Harper are involved in a devious plot to wipe away memory from all Human existence.Cicely Tyson and Kevin McCarthy are authority figures who try to use them as experimental "guinea Pigs" for research. The most interesting scene is when they return to a restaurant.Harrison is now suspicious of what goes on, when a waitress remembers them from a previous encounter. He tries to steal the disks and set their lives back in order. This movie shows that a person is not a machine; Man is more than skin, and "feeling" and "love" go way deeper.

'night, Mother
(1986)

Superb film about interesting topic
What I gather from this film, was that Thelma(Bancroft)was blind to the pain and hurt Jessie(Spacek) felt within. There was nothing she could do to rectify the situation. The self-pitying Jessie was bent on suicide, and she had reason to believe the World was never going to change. It seemed that she was punishing herself, and felt responsible for the way her Life and Family turned out.

I believe that Thelma tried to be a good mother. She did not want epilepsy to be a hindrance to young Jessie's fun and social atmosphere.Wouldn't any parent try to make her child blend in and fit with the rest of the crowd? The movie keeps the viewer on the edge; You wonder how low a person can go before he sees a "light" and gets back up again.

Walk the Line
(2005)

The Man in Black meets his toughest match
I saw this great film, and I thought it was a moving work of inspiration. Joaquin Phoenix plays a tough role as the "hard as nails" legendary persona, John R. Cash. As a great fan of country/western music, I love the spirited scenes of laughter and song. What is so heartbreaking and terrible, is that sense of abandonment and loneliness I felt John had hidden within his own heart.

As surmised in the film,Cash has a father who left him and his brother without a role model, or any male guidance in Life.I thought that the disappointment his father felt for him cut him deep, and hurt. It is heart wrenching and moving, seeing this mature man pitifully beg like a child for his daddy's affection and approval.I also felt that the death of his brother Jack took away that sense of comfort, and shared "bonding" John felt as a child.

Reese Witherspoon is memorable, as solid rock June Carter. Carter is the wall of strength and courage John needs in facing the "haunting" demons of his past. In the overview of the film, it is her songwriting talent that brings them fame and wealth. We see how tenderly June loves him, but also how she never backs away from his bearish behavior and wild ways.It is her critical quote, "you'll never walk that line", that becomes the main focal point of this biography.

I recommend this film, and think it is a lesson of how great Love works in a Family.

Titanic
(1997)

A great Historic Drama Unfolds
This film has perfect theme music and suspenseful action; We note the reflection of Rose(Stewart) whose special memories of that fateful day in 1912, take us back in time. Love is special for younger Rose(Winslet),who shows us passion and feelings a Heart cannot hide. She is bound to a man she does not love and meets a stowaway artist. Jack(handsome DiCaprio),unknowingly wins his destiny on the glorious "ship of Dreams", and meets the high class young girl who changes his luck.

Cal(played by talented Billy Zane),makes us see the green side of Envy. All his money is not enough to keep the heart of his beloved, and he desperately tries anything to change her.He is a coward and hides away in a Lifeboat, when the time for manpower is needed. There is the stuffy nature of young Rose's mom; She looks at Jack with hate and loathing, and does not want to lose the fortune because of a Stray "commoner".

I thought this movie had great effects that put the viewer up close with Horror of the story; The tense struggle makes the heart race faster.
