Man Vs.
(2015)

Pretty entertaining.
The main actor is charismatic and does a great job carrying the film. The cgi is awful later on but it didn't distract me from the story too much. It feels like a total Predator rip-off but it is still entertaining and definitely worth a watch.

Death by Potato
(2016)

Brilliant low budget flick.
I came across this on Amazon Prime and loved it. The actors all give a very entertaining performance and if you're up for a film with a bit of a twist I'd recommend it.

Pandorum
(2009)

Slightly complicated weekend entertainment.
I rented this off of Lovefilm after seeing it as a trailer on another DVD I had received. It reminded me of Event Horizon and as a fan of sci-fi films in that style I immediately put it on my high priority list.

I can't say I was disappointed. People may say the 'zombies' that attack them are out of nowhere but there is a good reason for them being on the ship if you watch the film long enough to find out. I found myself glued to the screen as the story unfolded and I thoroughly enjoyed it up to the 'happy ending' where Ben Foster's character managed to get out of the ship taking the survivors with him.

I will definitely be buying this and I will be looking for other films of it's type too. Excellent viewing.

CSI: NY
(2004)

My favourite of the CSIs.
I like the original a lot, CSI Miami lost it's appeal to me when Speedle died but CSI NY stays constantly appealing to me mostly due to the appeal of the characters. I've always been a huge fan of Gary Sinise and liked Eddie Cahill a lot in Friends but I'd honestly never heard of the other cast members.

I'm surprised I haven't seen Carmine Giovinazzo in more things as he is an excellent actor and makes Danny Messer incredibly likable and appealing. Melina Kanakaredes' Stella Bonasera is also very likable and absolutely stunning. Adam I can only describe as cute and fairly geeky. As for Lindsay, although I can't say I like her a great deal I like what she has bought out in Danny's character.

My only complaints are the loss of two great characters, Aiden and Detective Angell. I thought it was unnecessary especially to kill Angell as she was beginning to become a more frequently used character and it seems her death is an excuse for Don Flack to have a meltdown.

I look forward to what season 6 brings. If it stays as good as the previous 5 I can only hope there are 6 more.

Dead & Deader
(2006)

Entertaining if you don't expect too much.
I caught the start of this on the Sci-fi channel a while back but I fell asleep before the end (not a testimony to how bad it was or anything, it was on at 3am). Much to my delight I found it for £3 online so I happily added it to my zombie collection.

The story revolves around Dean Cain who is dead, a zombie but not quite the evil kind unless he gets hungry (good idea to carry a bag of steaks around in his presence). He wants to get to the bottom of why he's dead yet alive.

There are some incredibly silly parts including the fact Dean Cain heals instantly every time he is hurt. How would his cells regenerate if he was dead? That and the overacting from his sidekick who steal's Will Smith's number one catchphrase.

If you're expecting a hardcore zombie film you'll be sorely disappointed. If you want a lighthearted look at the living dead with some nice green splatter special effects and Dean Cain flashing his man-boobs then this is exactly what you need.

A slightly above average 6 out of 10.

Dead Silence
(2007)

It's about time a horror movie like this came out.
I'm an old fashioned horror fan (mainly into zombie stuff). True I like the blood and guts but horror films these days seem to just concentrate on trying to make you feel ill rather than scare you. That's why I was pleasantly surprised when I caught the last hour of this on a movie channel. So much so that I bought it to catch the beginning.

To sum it up, a young man's wife is brutally murdered shortly after a strange ventriloquist's dummy arrives at their home and he has a feeling the old stories about a woman named Mary Shaw and the curse she has put on the relatives of people who killed her may be more true than he first suspected. He heads back to his home town and from there on it just gets incredibly creepy. Almost 'Silent Hill' style.

There is very little gore, just suspense and things that will make you jump out of your seat and as suspected when you see it's been made by the Saw creators; a killer twist at the end. I never saw it coming and for a recent horror that is unusual. I can normally guess who will survive in a film/what will happen in the first 10 minutes or so.

This gets a solid 9 out of ten for being one of the best horrors of recent years for me. Donnie Wahlberg played an especially good part as a cop determined to find the young man guilty of murdering his wife.

If you like a horror that doesn't just have brains and blood flying at the camera for 90 minutes, this is for you.

Thunderbirds
(2004)

Probably fun for kids, but not for me.
I knew this film was supposed to be terrible and avoided it like the plague. Even being a Bill Paxton fan wasn't going to get me anywhere near this one. That was until my friend put it on when I was at her house, insisting it really wasn't that bad.

How wrong she was. I'm not going to deny this film would draw the kids in with it's colourful effects and 'fun' storyline but for me, someone who watched the original Thunderbirds I had to wonder what this had to do with the show. and who thought it would be a good idea to make it.

I felt no empathy for the main cast, they did their best with the script I'm sure but it just wasn't good enough to hold my attention. The three children were irritating and I didn't care whether they saved the day or not. Especially the youngest Tracy who had the most distracting eyebrows I've seen since Charlie from Busted's. In fact their battle with the bad guys wasn't nearly as tough as mine with my hand which kept unconsciously reaching for the remote to turn it off.

The only passable actors were those who played Penelope and Parker, they were pretty much on the mark. The aforementioned Mr Paxton disappointed me as he didn't even seem like he wanted to be in the film. I can't say I blame him though.

3 out of 10 but thats being generous.

Aliens
(1986)

Still gets my adrenaline going.
I remember when I was a young girl getting Aliens for Christmas (my dad let me watch Poltergeist when I was 11, this was the next step up).

I wasn't too keen on Alien at the time, seeing the John Hurt/chest bursting scene when I was so young might have been one reason but I think the truth is I wasn't too keen on the large amounts of suspense.

Aliens at the time I first saw it was the perfect film, suspense but with amazing action scenes that had you willing the marines and Ripley to get through it.

Maybe 14 years later and it still remains one of my favourites. The acting is superb, the effects stand the test of time and the story has me on the edge of the seat even though I must've seen it 30 times. Nothing like Aliens to give me panic attacks in the evening.

One of the best films ever, no exceptions.

Dungeons & Dragons
(1983)

Still awesome!
I decided to buy the box set of this, having memories of watching it as a child. Now as a 26 year old I have to say it's still great.

The animation is a little dated and it has that Captain Planet style 'moral every episode' theme but that to me is what makes it so classic and I just don't understand why more episodes weren't made.

The voice acting was superb and certain episodes had a dark element to them which makes it that much more appealing to me as an adult. Their struggle to get home drew some real emotions from the characters at times meaning even now I still rooted for them in every episode.

My favourite character is still Eric (as a kid I actually had a crush on him which is pretty sad), I think he acts just like I would if I was in that situation, making jokes to make light of a bad situation and running like hell when a huge monster appears.

Not only do I still love this but 2 people I work with want to borrow the set, 1 because she remembers it and the other because her kids love it. I don't doubt they will appreciate seeing it again as much as I have.

Its a shame there are no plans to make a movie of this like they're doing with other 80's classics but I can't imagine any actors bringing justice to the characters because I love this show too much.

Top marks!

Troll 2
(1990)

So bad I just couldn't stop watching.
I've never seen a film so bad it is actually good. The actors must have been picked up at a local barn dance and it looks like a 9 year old made the costumes.

That being said I started watching it expecting to turn over after 5 minutes but I just couldn't do it.

The main premise is that this family go to Nilbog on holiday and are constantly told to eat oddly green food because some midgets in old carpets and Halloween masks want to eat them.

Cue the occasional haunting from grandpa telling the little boy he can "do it!" and repeatedly cries of "NILBOG IS GOBLIN SPELT BACKWARDS!" and you've got yourself an instant classic.

I'm guessing they ran out of ideas in the end as to destroy the goblins all it took was touching a rock somewhat similar in texture to those used in the old Star Trek episodes.

The ending to me screamed sequel but it just wasn't meant to be. I really wish MST3K had gotten hold of this one but it is funny enough to watch without them. Top marks in a 1 out of 10 kind of way.

Survival Island
(2002)

Oh dear,
When this film came on the horror channel the other night I decided to watch it to see if it truly is as bad as everyone on here says. It is, but I turned off Going Overboard after 10 minutes and decided I wouldn't be beaten this time.

It starts with the usual holiday island scenario and somehow an evil piñata is woken up with a rock and proceeds to kill lots of people and by the look of it drain their blood and replace it with orange paint. I kept blacking out and missed several minutes of it so perhaps there was an explanation as to why one of the guys on the island just happened to know all about evil piñatas and also how to kill them.

The piñata looks more like a dodgy garden ornament and the CGI guy was clearly drunk as it looks different in practically every scene. It's made of what looks like molten rock, so they kill it with none other than fire. Yes, fire. So apparently next time you see a fire, put more fire on it and it will probably go out.

After seeing this appalling pile of **** I think I will try Going Overboard again as it couldn't possibly be as bad as this. Don't even bother trying to watch it folks.

Hercules Returns
(1993)

Pant wettingly hilarious.
In a nutshell a disgruntled man quits his job to open his own cinema and his old employer swaps the film hes showing on the opening night for an Italian version so he and his 2 employees have to dub it themselves. I laughed so much it hurt.

The rude names they give to the characters and the fact they make Samson sound like a girl are just 2 of my reasons for watching this film again and again. If you haven't seen it you ARE missing out. Unless you have no sense of humour, in which case you should probably watch a documentary or something....

A big fat 10 out of 10.

House M.D.
(2004)

brilliant, and I rarely think that of a series.
I accidentally stumbled upon this show when I was bored on a Sunday evening and now I never miss an episode. Hugh Laurie is a very likable character despite his attitude towards patients which 99% is warranted.

In every episode I watch him and the other doctors try to diagnose what seems to be an unfindable illness and never fail to enjoy it. I hope this show goes on and on and I will never get bored of it. Nice to see Hugh Laurie show off his acting talents in another genre too.

I can only hope that more people get to see House as right now in the UK it is only being shown on sky/cable TV.

I'd happily give House 10/10 because it is flawless entertainment. So there!

A Walk to Remember
(2002)

I hate romantic films but this is different.
I watched this film with little hope of enjoying it and I was horribly wrong.

The basic synopsis is the popular boy Landon does something extremely stupid and ends up on probation at school doing various jobs such as cleaning, teaching and acting in the school play. Jamie, a girl who has always been a target for torment for him starts to become more than an eyesore.

I hate Romantic films but I cried so much watching this film my eyes were stinging.

Mandy Moore was amazing and very adorable and Shane West does a great performance as the popular boy with a better side. I recommend this movie to anyone because I'm normally only interested in horror films and yet I still sobbed at a good few scenes in this film. Definitely worth a watch!

At Any Cost
(2000)

Like a 90 minute long Aerosmith video.....
This film wasn't one of the greatest I've seen recently. It played like a very long Aerosmith video. I had to fast forward through the numerous musical parts as I began to get bored of the mediocre music (really not my cup of tea). Those problems aside it really wasn't all that bad with some pretty good acting (or brilliant in Glenn Quinn's case) and a small whiff of a plot here and there. I'll admit I only bought this because Mr Quinn was in it, he was excellent as the evil manager. In fact, I found myself shouting; "Ooh! you BASTARD!" at the television several times during the film.

I'd give it 6 out of 10 but only because of Quinn's great portrayal of a big bastard.

Spider-Man 2
(2004)

What can I say except WOOOOOOO!!!!!
My friend and me were going to see this together but she changed her plans and I decided to brave the rush hour traffic and swarms of kids and see this film myself. I was not disappointed! This film follows on a while after the first film with Peter Parker trying to juggle 2 jobs, school and of course being Spiderman.

Everyone was great except James Franco who seemed to spend the entire film getting drunk and whining. Doctor Octopus was a brilliant villain. He actually scared me at times. To make a short review slightly less short Spiderman 2 ruled. This was the first time I saw this film but it certainly wont be the last. God bless you Mr Maguire! 10/10

Shaun of the Dead
(2004)

Hilariously gory! *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
When the new Dawn of the Dead film came out I wasn't very interested in seeing it but my friend told me about this film and I was there as soon as it came out. The basic story is about a hapless man named Shaun who works at an electrical store amongst younger, more up and coming employees. His girlfriend has had enough of him and dumps him after he messes up a restaurant booking. In his grief he doesn't notice the strange people shuffling up and down the road moaning and doesn't pay much attention to the numerous news reports. That is until a girl is standing in his back garden and he and his bone idle friend go outside to investigate. I won't say anymore except it is a brilliant comedy/horror. There was a lot of gore and everyone including me was laughing their arse off. I for one will be seeing it again and again. Simon Pegg is a genius (as demonstrated by Spaced and Big Train) and I for one want his babies.

Donnie Darko
(2001)

difficult to understand for some people.
At work one of my friends had seen this film and didn't understand it at all. She immediately asked me to watch it as apparently I understand weird films. I did as she said and saw the film. Jake Gyllenhaal was great, I'd never seen him act before but I was impressed, also the girl who played the love of his life was excellent. Drew Barrymore wasn't anything special and the rest of the cast made me angry. I wanted to punch half of them. The horrible thing is that I understood the film but I'd never be able to explain it to my friend or anyone else and make sense. It's very good nevertheless and I'll no doubt watch it over and over again. I could watch it another 100 times and still not find the words to explain whats going on though. Sorry.

Roadside Prophets
(1992)

Worth a watch
The main character of this film is on a journey to find a place his dead friend (who he knew for all of 3 hours) talked about and scatter his ashes there. Along the way he bumps into a young man with an obsession with a chain of motels and fireworks who eventually ends up following him everywhere. They become friends (sort-of) and have a very strange adventure indeed. I bought this film to see Adam Horowitz and he gave a great performance. John Doe was average at best but the star had to be John Cusack in a small cameo. Worth watching if you like very odd films. I do so I give it **** out of *****!

Blow Dry
(2001)

Ahwwww bless
Not a bad film at all. I watched it when there was nothing else on, drooling at the prospect of Mr Hartnett and not expecting much else. I was pleasantly surprised by the great storyline and lovable characters. The star was without a doubt Alan Rickman. He just rocks so very, very much. A lot of people have of course been commenting on Mr Hartnett's attempt at a Yorkshire accent. Anyone British like me and no doubt most of everyone else will also be wondering what country he's pretending to be from when he says the majority of his lines. It seems the writers gave him lines as short as possible to avoid him buggering up completely. Even so the film is great and Josh, despite looking strained does a fairly good job. Bless 'im.

Bruce Almighty
(2003)

A veritable sniggerfest.
Me and a friend at work have a thing going where we lend each other films every weekend and watch them over a few beers on sunday. This week she lent me this on DVD and despite the fact I've never really been a fan of Jim Carrey I watched it to see how much the film took the p*ss out of God. Within minutes I was sniggering at the antics of the baker who picked his nose and had another beer. I really enjoyed Jim's performance and Jennifer Aniston did a good job too. I think the real star however was Sam the dog. I wish my cats would stop p*ssing up the chairs like that. Overall it was definately worth a watch and there were more than a few laughs to be had. If I had God's powers I'd do all the things he did too, especially getting a brand new car (mines French and it sucks). Good 'getting drunk in front of the telly' viewing. 4 out of 5.

Wasabi
(2001)

thank god for french lessons
Whenever I go to France I always look at the dvds to see if there are any good Jean Reno ones available. I came across Wasabi and after reading what it was about I bought it as it seemed like a good film. When I got home I realised the movie was in French with French subtitles (I was too drunk to read the info on the dvd case at the time) and prayed the 8 years of studying the French language would see me through....just in case I had a French dictionary to hand. With the subtitles on as I'm better at reading the language than anything else I watched it and I enjoyed every minute. Jean Renos character is adorable and so is his daughter who is a stereotypical Japanese teenager. I haven't watched this film in a while and its been 2 years since I've spoken any French and I lost the dictionary but I'm going to watch it again because its a great film. Definately worth watching, but a dubbed version wouldn't be the same. ****1/2 out of *****

Diabolik
(1968)

not bad but not great either
I watched this on MST3K and the first two things I noticed were the lead role is played by none other than the evil Kalgan from the appalling Space Mutiny and that the Beastie Boys parodied this in their 'Body Movin' video.

In all honesty it was dull and badly filmed but Mike, Tom and Crow made it all better.

Meet the Deedles
(1998)

Great sunday hangover viewing.
As another reviewer said; "I recommend it for Paul Walker fans and immature people." Being both these things I was wetting myself laughing at a fair few points of the film. Mainly because I find farts very very funny indeed. I had a rip-roaring hangover this afternoon and decided to put on a film that was so simple it required no thinking whatsoever to watch. This was the ideal thing. It's cringe worthy and very tacky at times but that doesn't mean it's absolute rubbish. Worth a watch if you're into tacky comedies that rely heavily on bodily function jokes or if you want to see Paul Walker in a wetsuit. I'd like him to put a Deedle in my haystack.......

The Man Without a Face
(1993)

surprisingly good
Being the shallow cow I am I bought this film because I wanted to see Nick Stahl. I'm not a fan of Mel Gibson but his performance was amazing. I loved watching 'Man Without A Face' from beginning to end. Its a bit of a tearjerker though so be warned! I cried like a baby at the end and I usually try to be rock hard during films. Great film. Watch it!
