Hannibal
(2013)

So Glad Hannibal is Back
Just watched Season 2 opener and looks like it's going to get very interesting.

Watched the last episode of Season 1 the other day just to prepare for the opener of Season 2.

Watching the last episode of Season 1 reminded me how good this show it. I recall one episode was banned in the US for it's violent and nasty content. But every episode it pretty near the mark.

Don't like giving spoilers way in my reviews and this is no different.

I understand this a network show in the US so free to all to watch without subscription, so jump on board and start watching it.

We all know the story of Hannibal Lector, but this show has no bearing on the movies other than he's an intelligent, charming person who so happens to commit the most brutal of murders. And in this show they are brutal.

Don't be put off by the actors who some may already dislike. I wasn't a big fan of Gillian Anderson, but since watching her in Bleak House, Hannibal & The Fall love her dearly.

As said at the start Season 2 is going to heat up, and a preview of episode 2 shows no sign of that changing.

Miss this show at your peril, it's a million miles ahead of the dross True Detective that everyone is raving about.

House of Cards
(2013)

The Perfect Show to get over Breaking Bad
Absolutely love this show. I was a late comer to this and watched Season 1 in 3 days.

I was still having Breaking Bad blues and really finding it hard to watch anything, then thought haven't tried HoC. I don't do political dramas, but do do Kevin Spacey, so gave it a go and it has been a really joy. The perfect tonic to wash away those BB blues.

Robin Wright is the perfect wife and utterly gorge in this, and thoroughly deserved her Golden Globe.

Netflix are onto a winner, not just the show, but releasing all the episodes in one hit. The future of TV viewing is upon us.

Well worth a visit if you have Netflix and looking for a new show to get your teeth into, you can watch both seasons before the amazing Game of Thrones returns.

God it's cold in The North.

Breaking Bad

The Best Show Ever
Yes a bold statement, but trust me I have watched loads of TV shows over the years.

Sopranos, Six feet Under, The Wire, The Shield, BSG, Game of Thrones, you know where I'm going.

Great TV shows all of them, but BB is the show that tops them all. The characters from season 1 to Season 5.2 change and develop so much, more than any show I've watched in the past.

And if you love cliff hanger endings, it seems every episode ends on one.

You've never seen anything like it in your life. An utterly amazing piece of work that has left a massive hole in my life.

You need BB in your life, that's all I'm saying.

PS. One crumb of comfort, Gus is in Revolution!!

True Detective
(2014)

Who Needs Hot Milk to go to Sleep watch TD instead!!!
Blimey, so many good reviews. I've watched the first 2 episodes and couldn't bear to watch all of the 3rd. Gave up. Slow, slow, slow and how's it gripping. A bit of interest there but gripping never. It's hardly 24 for God sake.

Watching in the UK and was told about this show and thought OK, looks good. Having watched Out of the Furnace, True Detective is in the same class. BORING!!! Don't be mugged off by people telling you it's a great show, it's not, it's a put you to bed show, it really is.

Just hammered Season 1 House of Cards in 3 days, now that is a show.

Just out of interested I backed TD half way through episode 3 just so I could watch the last 2 episode of HoC before TD sent me to into a coma.

Don't bother you'll never get the time back.

Hostages

I have to defend this show
TV shows are like boxing matches, you have the main events like Breaking Bad, Boardwalk, Game of Thrones. Then you have the undercard or as I say fillers, and this is definitely on the filler list.

I'm watching this in the UK and like this show while there's basically naff all on currently. I'm really not sure the reviewer's have been watching the same show but it's all about opinions and there's counts just like mine does I hope.

It may well be a one season wonder in the end, but currently there's a lot going on like political gamesmanship, murder, blackmail and a reasonable storyline to keep me interested. As said I do class this as an undercard type show, but it's watchable and doesn't deserve the reviews it's been getting.

Personally a lot of shows that I've watched in this class have been canned by the TV powers that be. Which begs the question, do my great American cousins actually know what there watching sometimes, when shows like Grey's (bailed after Season 5, The Mentalist bailed and a few more I dare not mention) are still out there going strong.

I love the US drama, best TV on the planet. They're very few UK shows of equal and we have a tradition in the UK of only having 6 episode seasons, less if you think of Luther.

This is a new golden age with so many great US shows, 3 I've already mentioned, alas BB is no more (nothing touches that). I'm enjoying Hostages, just like The Blacklist, Revolution, Under The Dome and Continuum. All enjoyable filler shows to watch while the main events are on break.

If you've given up on this, I'd encourage you to go back to it while there's nothing on.

Falling Skies
(2011)

I'll Give it One Season !!!!
I could have given up after the season opener as it gave me nothing new. But due to the lack of US dramas have watched the 1st four episode's now and still find it poor. It's the same old stuff, lacks vision and imagination and will surely lose viewers as the weeks progress and the fall schedule hits the TV (assuming it's 22 episodes of course!).

At least tell us how this all came about, rather than dumping us into a world where all we've got to go on, is drawings in the opening credits.

Some shows that have fallen by the wayside give you nothing for weeks then hit you have an episode that gives you everything. I didn't like those shows and feel FS is going the same way.

Maybe it's great and I'm just a 40 something moany old git, but I want more from my SciFi not this dribble.
