Jane by Design
(2012)

Cute Combination
Jane by Design is an adorable combination of Ugly Betty and the Devil Wears Prada. This show caters to young girls. It will also capture the hearts of hopeless romantics. The show creates curious conflict to hook the viewer. Yet, the show manages to end with a resolution that leaves you eager to feel more. I'm not sure if its the beautiful actresses or the interesting plot; but, my husband has sat down to watch several episodes with me. He has even asked me a few questions about the character's backgrounds. It is hard to engage a man in a romantic comedy, but this show has done it.I look forward to more episodes. If you enjoyed Ugly Betty or the Devil Wears Prada, I believe you will be surprised by Jane by Design, and the writers ability to write show after show with the same up beat feel.

El crimen del padre Amaro
(2002)

How far would you go?
Hey! Its 2006 and I just saw this movie for the first time and think it is great! What a film! The scary part is that this novel was originally written in 1875, and yet the topics and issues are very contemporary. After watching the film it was no wonder the book has been hidden for so long!!! I felt as if I traveled back in time, to my own adolescence...Raw, passionate, and innocent. While watching this film you will feel that you have experienced love that you shouldn't have! You will be reminded of that youthful passion that was stronger than you wanted it to be. You will be gently reminded of how you were once over powered by a sense of first love/lust.Come on... you remember that crazy willingness to do anything just so you can touch?...to give in to the passionate urge...one so powerful that it might just make more sense to bend our beliefs and our integrity...for just one moment of passion? Oh, the truth and the lies we once told ourselves...just for s...? It must be love, right? Ha!

This film also has parallels between older and younger characters to remind us that these feelings do not always leave us even though we grow old. Struggles remain...why? and...So,whose secrets do you know? do you have your own? just how far will you let your passion take you? hmmm...The Crime of Father Amaro is a tantalizing film...pits faith against human nature. This film also has educational value in the secondary characters...it shows how natives of Latin America try to blend pagan idolatry or witchcraft with the modern church. It also shows how the mentally and physically handicap in Latin America barely survive. It shows how the Latin community must depend on the support of family and the church for their sustenance and education. Another film for ardent movie goers. Spanish with English subtitles.

Spanglish
(2004)

Balance of Truth and Comedy (Truthomedy?)
Spanglish is a beautiful film which is a creative yet honest reflection of what happens when two cultures, and two languages, and two families merge. Spanglish is therapeutic in that is displays contemporary conflicts that surface between the average husband and wife, language conflicts between employers and service industry(Spanish and English), and culture differences between women(American and Mexican.)Although the emotional struggles are real and at times tragic, the director manages to surprise the audience with absurdities? or realities? (you decide)when you least expect it, which literally brings out guttural laughter. And if you watch alone, beware...you may find yourself deep in thought...examining your own intimate relationships with others...which I have no doubt...is the writers very intention. Superbly written, superbly directed. A balance of truth and comedy. Truthomedy?Just the way I like my movies!

The Deadbeat Club
(2004)

low budget film with Priceless Inner Depth
This is an independent film that portrays an unchanged small-town community and the extent to which it is willing to reject new town members over the years. When one outcast family suffers from the loss of a house-fire, a new teenage town-member feels compelled to help the survivor. One by one she wins the hearts of the town's other outcasts, and they band together for a good cause. This movie raises questions over all that is traditional(including religion). The Deabeat Club will move you to question "what is perceived to be right?", and "what is right?" If you can gloss over the fact that this is a low budget film, you will discover that the Deabeat Club has priceless inner depth. A must see rating. -Margarita Shanks Bennett
