The Bear: Forks
(2023)
Episode 7, Season 2

The Bear is back!
This season tried a different approach and rhythm and not my cup of tea. This episode rocked and reminded me of the first season. And Taylor Swift never fails. I love the evolution of Ebon's character. Since the restaurant industry is stressful inherently, I don't understand the choice of pacing the show slower this season on a number of episodes. Especially with a new restaurant opening up.

Who knew how sweet 3-star restaurant staff was behind the scenes? The stunt casting in the previous episode was too much but seeing Olivia Coleman in this one was a treat! Anyways well done writers, cast and crew. You nailed it.

Great Kills
(2023)

An homage to the quirkiness of Staten Island
What happens in Staten Island stays in Staten Island!

I love the dark humor throughout this series. It is a great binge. Funny and very suspenseful.

Amazing performances directed by none other than iconic SLC Punk! Director James Merendino, who also plays a key role in the series. Steve Stanulis reminds me of Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

Love all the female actors who play the co-director, the mob-boss the girlfriend and the grandma. Such interesting multi-dimensional female characters. Women of Staten Island are hardcore.

I can't wait to see where the characters are next season. What a great Tubi surprise!

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
(2022)

Loved the movie hate the new Grindelwald
Big fan of both Mads and Johnny but Johnny played such a multifaceted villain when Mads is playing it so straight. So confusing, as well as the lack of chemistry with Jude Law. Aside from this part, though it is central to the movie, the storyline and execution are great. Love Jessica Williams' character.

The Prince
(2021)

So bad
Could not get past 2 minutes. It is not funny. Seeing prince Philip this way I was disrespectful and making fun of a real 7 year old is disgusting, But beyond that, terrible writing.

The Fanatic
(2019)

This movie is a gem, don't believe the reviewers mob mentality.
The internet is a dark place which is why I don't read reviews anymore but it was hard to notice how this movie was panned. Travolta took a risk and he nails his endearing character . Fred Durst's story is great take on favs and celebrities. All the actors give realistic performances. Sawa is great as the villain . Things escalate, the music is beautiful and creepy. It is a movie that both entertains you and makes you think. Don't believe the reviews, it's a gem.

Game of Thrones: The Long Night
(2019)
Episode 3, Season 8

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time
It was such a ride! I was so nervous, I did not realize until yesterday how invested I was in this amazing story. The writers, the crew and of course the actors brought it 120%. Without spoiling anything the cinematography for the dragon battle was out of this world. I am a big fan of LOTR and love the Helm's Deep battle but the Long Night of Winterfell was next level. I watched it again right after and will tonight.

The Last Airbender
(2010)

This movie was great
I was so worried I had made the mistake of pre-buying tickets for this week-end.Some of your reviews are awful. After seeing this movie, it is some kind of M-Night witch-hunt or fad-let's say this is the worst movie ever made because it's fun. It is not a masterpiece but it is far from being the worst movie ever made!!! There are some amazing break-through performances and effects. Dev Patel did not disappoint. I was totally emotionally involved with the characters. I want to see the sequel. Don't listen to the bad reviews, make up your own mind. This movie is similar in quality to Narnias, Harry Potters... Whatever the fans of the cartoons expectations were , there are not the one of someone who has not read them. It is a very decent movie. M. Night made his first big action movie with this, it is a solid movie and for once it is not at all pretentious.

The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch
(2009)

First Screening
I just saw a first screening of the movie and it is ground breaking. An emotional roller coaster with a deep moral debate. How far will people let the media or reality TV go before turning away ? Is there a limit to what is acceptable? Amazing acting which gave me goose bumps. The guy who plays the character of Frank Richie is a discovery for me but in the lead of Oscar winning actors. We love to hate Lisa Hammer. James Merendino is angry and this movie is a testament to his anger. The violence is reminiscent of a Tarentino but the message is deep and this movie had to be done. This is a movie you can't leave at the theater, it stays with you and will stay with you for a long time.

Eastern Promises
(2007)

Good but not as surprising as History of violence
As an introduction, I am a demanding audience , especially when it comes to my TOP 5 directors. Eastern Promises is actually a very entertaining movie .

The acting is excellent. Mortensen and Watts are solid and reliable leads, they dun-not disappoint. It is time they get awards. The supporting roles are even sharper. Cassel is amazing. He has been type-casted into the mean French guy he plays very well in American movies. Here he shows the range and vulnerability he has displayed in French movies. Which makes him the best French actor of his generation.

So why was I disappointed? Basically because this movie is following History of Violence and it is a little bit too similar and not as well made. The Mob theme , the violence, Viggo as the ambiguous man , the tough yet fragile blond woman...

Then, there is a little bit of humor/irony in Eastern Promises, here and there, yet it is missing the typical Cronenberg dark humor. In History of Violence, the scene with William Hurt was really great for that.

But what really frustrated me is that the suspense was totally dead when there was a big reveal 25 minutes before the end or so. Then I was almost bored. And I did not need all the loose ends to be tied up.

In the end, I miss the visionary and daring Cronenberg . Crash is not an easy movie to watch but it is weird and dark and shocking. Existenz is a visionary movie as well as several of his earlier ones. Spider is a very good movie about mental illness. History of Violence was a great novelty for him . But doing it again and so soon after? Why? Go see it though. Again it is a very entertaining movie . And ...Viggo is naked , a lot. Smeared in blood but remember, it is fake! Actually I was laughing by the end of this very violent scene because it was really over the top , thus too funny.

Magicians
(2000)

A very good surprise
This movie is awesome for three main reasons. It is esthetically beautiful. I absolutely loved that. There is a bold color theme throughout the movie with extraordinary costumes and picturesque sets. A photography which looks very costly (and probably was not) completes the look . I always enjoy those stories about groups of misfits/loners coming together and becoming a family . Sometimes they fall into clichés but this one does not. This group of actors really portrays well flawed, yet extremely likable characters. Alan Larkin is the best (between him , the van and the road movie theme, I could not help but remember my favorite movie of last year Little Miss Sunshine…) . I discovered Fabrizio Bentivoglio , very interesting actor, and just got annoyed a tiny little bit by Til Schweiger performance at times . The opening scene, all the scenes where they mess up their tricks are very funny. There is a mix of humor and emotion throughout the film. I like the end a lot. And of course it is all about the Magician theme . A good magician is making the audience look where he wants them to, to create an illusion. Which happens to be exactly what a movie director does and that's why they call it movie magic.

The Village
(2004)

A very good surprise
Well once more, beware of other people comments , critics, misleading trailers and make-up your own opinion.I loved Unbreakable because of character development and that's what I liked in this movie too. The actors are excellent , except for Brodie who I found off and Night whose scene was too long and too obvious ( directors cameos are fun but should be cut short like) . I did not see the final twist coming at all . I believe that we were meant to understand the role of the beast myth in this movie since the start and that it is not a flaw of the movie. I had a great time.

Not a masterpiece but far from a disappointment
