Unikitty!
(2017)

A show made by a not so smart team
If something like a book, film, or anything sells very well, some TV studio is likely to be encourage to make a show out of it. And that's the case with Unikitty which is based on the Lego Movie.

Although I don't hate them, I can't say that I'm a fan of those lego-themed movies. And if I was, I'm not sure if I would like this show which I don't.

With regards to the show, I can sense that it was created by a not so smart team. As to whoever picked the cast, I wonder if he/she knows that the dog/unicorn thing is actually a guy? Whoever made that pick is perhaps the least intelligent of the not so smart team.

Yokai wotchi
(2014)

Nearly Got My Embrace
I saw a few moments of an episode of this show. In it, a cat (possibly Jibanyan) is wearing a straw hat, and magically conjures biscuits for a boy and another character to eat. Although the boy and that another character eat the biscuits merrily, the cat isn't happy for some reason and therefore expresses disgust. I don't know what happens next as I leave the screen to do something else.

After those moments, I looked on websites, such as Wikipedia, to know more about the show. After that brief research, I can't say that I embrace it. The graphics are colorful and futuristic. The nature probably does suit for all ages. The characters are okay but characters like Jibanyan and Komasan could use boys to perform their speaking roles.

Sonic Boom
(2014)

Why Has Tails Been Taken Over By Strumpets?
I first seen Sonic characters in a TV series called Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Weeks later I learned that the characters are part of a video game franchise after I got a simple hand-held game as a gift. I since then develop interest in seeing more of the games.

Tails is one of the characters I adore from the franchise. In fact, I see him as one of the cutest characters. Despite being cute, however, perfection on how he is played seemed to lost its shine. Here's why.

In those early 1990s TV series and those Sonic video games prior to 2004, Tails was voiced young boys. This is the traditional and appropriate way. But in post-2004 games as well as in this series, the two-tailed fox has since been taken over by old strumpets. I wonder why. The use of old strumpets is nothing but a way to belittle the acting talent of guys, and to steal guys' jobs. How sick.

The Smurfs
(2011)

Adequate try on resurrection
I've been knowing the Smurf characters since I was a little kid. I even have a few plushes which were purchased by my siblings many years ago. I also got to see episodes of the TV series over a decade ago just after I got cable.

I never thought the characters would make it to the silver screen. Nevertheless, they did. And when I saw promotional posters of the film, I was somewhat amazed. Unlike the TV series which was in traditional animation, the Smurfs are in CGI and are in a live-action film. By turning the characters CGI, there's some noticeable differences on how their eyes look but it ain't bad anyway.

What's the best thing that's applied to the film? Well here's one I have in mind. By selecting Paul Reubens to play Jokey, the filmmakers certainly corrected a flaw that was applied in the TV series. Characters should be played by the right people.

The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle
(2000)

A failed attempt to revive a classic TV character
Rocky the Flying Squirrel is a character who appeared in a TV series named for him dating from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. Decades later, filmmakers who are probably fans of the show's characters try to make a film, and try to revive them.

At first, I had no idea that the film flopped at the box office because I was not following it. This was until I read about it on Wikipedia. It was there I found out. I find it hard to believe how a film featuring a famous TV character could bomb. Films bomb at the box office either because of negative reviews from critics or insufficient marketing. But in the case of The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, the reason is unknown. Perhaps it has something to do with which the filmmakers choose who gets to play who in the film. If a lad were selected to be Rocky, I guess the film might have been much more financially successful.
