Dance Monsters
(2022)

A revolution in TV. No kidding.
Before I get started with my actual review let me just say a few things. First off I can't dance, and I don't even really care about dance shows at all. Second, all my kids are grown and I'm 50 years old.

Why in the world would I rate a silly monster dancing competition 10/10?

Reason number one:

The show is just a blast to watch. Which started as a silly joke watch with me and my wife had me scratching my head during the first episode thinking are these people in suits how are these monsters dancing so well in a stuffed suit and why are they so cool looking?

While I don't work in Hollywood or any movie sets for that matter, I do have a pretty keen eye for spotting bad CGI effects and this had me pretty darn fooled for a good portion of the first episode.

I couldn't care less whether this was rendered in real time or took several months of post production to complete. That's how TV should be- magical and new..

Reason number two:

The characters and vibe. Well the technology is Uber cool, what really makes the show work so well and so enjoyable to watch are the actual dancers. I don't know what it is about listening to real people's voices while watching a silly furry one-eyed monster, But it works extremely well for the show. The positive energy between the dancers and they're honest thoughts and commentary throughout the show elevates this beyond just some silly kid show. I sincerely cared about who was going to win the show by the end. I did not expect that to happen.

Reason number three:

Yes, I think this is going to revolutionize TV in the near future. I'm sure there are naysayers that will call out every glitch that happened during the show but I think they're missing the point. I connected more to these characters on a silly Netflix TV dance show that I have with 99% of any big budget Hollywood production CGI character including those blue avatars. I challenge you to show clips to your friends or family of the furry monsters dancing, without telling anyone what's actually going on, and see whether or not they think it's actually someone in a costume. After a while I stopped sharing whether it was CGI or not, I was just as interested in the back room scenes with the dancers talking among themselves as monsters as I was when they were actually performing.

Is this show perfect? Not really, but was it wildly entertaining and just as captivating as any big name show? Yes, absolutely. Am I excited to see more shows like this in the future? Yep!

10/10.

Devil in Ohio
(2022)

More woke garbage
Once again we get a lukewarm 'thriller' from Netflix. A struggling foster family adds another teenage girl when the psychiatrist mother (who has her own history of being damaged) discovers that this runaway girl was brutally scarred by her parents.

From here, we are introduced to a super feminist male teen in charge of the school paper, a 'is she or isn't she' gay sister, who is scolded for having feelings about boys after liking girls a year prior.

What do these characters add to the story? Absolutely nothing.

Now as to the actual plot? Not worth the watch. There is nothing scary at all that happens during this 8 hour drudge. I would rather watch scare tactics for jump scares or the hallmark channel for the drama.

No it's not cool to promote gender reassignment
Slipped it right in didn't you netflix? Couldn't just leave your trans woke politics out of even this stupid comedy, could you?

When your daughter asks if she has a male member and the dad says you can get one later in life if that's what you want to do, you're promoting gender reassignment and you know it. Little by little they keep pushing this agenda and I'm sick of it.

Is there a checklist that movies have to tick off before they're published on Netflix?

  • gay or lesbian couple? CHECK
  • transgender actor ? CHECK
  • strong powerful woman? CHECK
  • weak stupid man? CHECK
  • message about oppression? CHECK

Kevin hart is turning out to be a complete sell out and he's rapidly on his way to a ruined career. Stand up for something Kevin and have some self respect!

Negative reviews are from big pharma
As a marketer, I'm so glad this show was made. Our job should never be to mislead our customers much less LIE about things that could harm someone.

Sadly, there are many that don't share this belief but instead bow to the almighty dollar, truth be damned. May God save their wicked souls.

Every technique used back then is still in play today. Nothing to back up your claims? Pay someone to write an article and then reference it in your pamphlets. Fraudulent studies abound and the media, politicians and regulatory agencies have been bought.

How many similar documentaries must we see and how many more lives must be lost before something is done to stop the madness.

Fining these companies billions won't stop it. Lock them up, take everything they have and make examples.

Who smokes cigars like that????
Yes, this movie is incredulously bad. I have no idea how she didn't puke toking on that cigar like she was sucking quarters through a garden hose.

I felt gross watching this movie.

Interesting but what's the point
Just finished watching episode 8 and while I enjoy the show I'm still wondering what's the point?

Sing On! Germany: Girlsnight
(2020)
Episode 1, Season 1

Wonderfully horibble
Imagine American Idol if all the singers auditioning were at best mediocre and they just picked 6 at random and said "you'll do". Add some competitiveness by putting them in a semicircle, making them all sing the same song, switching singers every half-verse and then having them vote each other out publicly each round.

At least until the final rounds where the robot tone analyzer counts how many right notes were hit. The loser has to go to the balcony and sing with the other losers. Sure, I'm crying because everyone voted me off, but I definitely want to go stand here and pretend to be happy.

So much cringe. It's glorious.

If you've ever been the sober person at a late night karaoke, this show will bring back those fond (or not so fond) memories.

Don't be turned off by the fact that it's in German. Turns out, while German's are apparently incredibly horrible singers, they are also some of the sweetest people I've ever watched on a TV game show.

Rattlesnake
(2019)

It gets slower and slowwwer and....slooowwerr
I felt like I'd been poisoned and I was dying a slow and miserable death the longer I watched this movie. Unfortunately, I don't think that's what the director was going for when he made this.

What started out as a fine premise for a thriller: to save someone you gotta kill someone; yes it's trope but Sometimes there's a nice twist and the movie winds up enjoyable.

Not this time.

If I were captain of a team picking the best killers, I'd leave the main character on the bench. In fact I wouldn't want her anywhere near my team. She moves slower than cold honey even where there are only moments left before her daughter dies.

Ughhh I hated this movie yuck

Mr. Church
(2016)

Unexpectedly awesome
I'm a 50 year old man who loves action movies and I reluctantly watched this in bed with my wife today, only because it had Eddie Murphy in it and it was pretty recent - though I don't recall ever seeing any trailers or anything for it.

Movies like this usually have some overly emotional moments meant to pull at your heart strings but I was surprised at how unforced those moments seemed while I was watching it.

Yes, I teared up several times during the movie but when it was over I didn't feel sad. The actors did their job excellently, I never once felt anyone was actually acting, and that their relationships and feelings were real.

I want to believe that people like Mr. Church really exist as the world would be such a better place.

God's Not Dead
(2014)

MUCH better than expected.
For all the complaining from atheists about how they're vilified in this movie and are actually quite content to leave people to their own beliefs, I find it highly ironic that the first several pages are single star reviews hating on this movie because it's a 'Christian' film.

End of rant - on to the review...

I am a Christian, but that doesn't mean I only watch super wholesome family movies and TV. I enjoy a great action film, horror movie or thriller / drama just like anyone else. Memento, Die Hard, Zombieland, Dr. Strangelove are just a few of my favorite movies. I've seen plenty of 'religious' films too - some are really good, and admittedly - some are quite poor; at least when it comes to direction, script and/ or acting.

This movie ranks with the good ones. Yes, there are parts that feel a bit forced - like the interaction between Josh and his Professor towards the end of the movie, and I wish they had given more meat to Kevin Sorbo's character (though I think he did great with what he was given), but it's easy to overlook some heavy handedness when considering the movie as a whole.

Other reviewers have mentioned that the movie vilified the Muslim father, but I don't see that to be the case. I actually felt great sympathy for their family - while I don't agree with the Muslim faith, the actor portraying the Muslim girl's father was very good and believable. I wish they had spent a little more time on this part of the plot as well.

The one thing that got dangerously close to taking me out of the movie was the overt promotion of the Newsboys in nearly half the scenes. I like the Newsboys, but come on.

I'm not someone who nit picks every little detail, I consider how the movie made me feel while I was watching it and in retrospect. At the end , me, my family and pretty much everybody else in the movie theater applauded. It was very moving. In truth the movie deserves an 8, but it's getting a 10 from me because the massive amount of 1 stars are unwarranted.

War Horse
(2011)

Spielberg made this piece garbage??!
I figured this would be one of those movies that looked boring, but was actually a great movie once you finally watched it.

Well, I was wrong. This movie is just plain bad.

Don't get me wrong- there are parts that are good, but the sum of these parts equals a half baked, poorly constructed and just plain boring movie. I wanted to like it, honestly I did. But as others have mentioned, it's hard to have any emotional attachment to either the actors or the horse when it bounces from subplot to subplot every 5 minutes.

Don't waste your time on this fail. Seriously.

The Encounter
(2010)

Don't write this one off...
Let me start by saying there are no 'hidden' messages in this movie. Everything is out in the open, from 5 minutes into the movie. I really hadn't expected that and it kind of lowered my expectations for a few moments, but I'm pleased to say that this in no way ruined the movie. It was actually kind of refreshing.

I don't think I would have chosen the actor who played Jesus, but he did a very good job just the same. There were some very good questions asked of him by the prideful character named 'crusher', about how a loving God could let so much pain and hurt go on. The answers may not satisfy the critics, but that's probably because God doesn't work the way we do.

This movie does an excellent job at revealing God's love for each of us and how he moves in each of our lives, whether we believe or not. A must see.
