The Anarchists
(2022)

Libertarians Playing AnarchIsts With A Few Exceptions
I'm giving this a 10 because the reviews are way too harsh. I've watched all 5 episodes available at this time. I believe that they are mostly right leaning libertarians, except John and Lily. From the start the Freeman's didn't like how Lily criticized Anarchopolco for having little to nothing to say regarding true anarchy. Then the Freeman's turn around and get pissed because they are not allowed to sell their alternative conference t-shirts at Anarchopolco. Hello pot, meet kettle. Lily and John created their own event so anyone who wanted to speak, could. They accepted Paul into their house, when no one else would. They bartered for food and are the kind of hippie anarchists I expected to see when I watched the first episode. I'm a former punk rock kid, now left leaning libertarian. I realized by the age of 15 that true anarchy could never work. Though, I don't blame Lily and John for trying.

This Is Us: Brotherly Love
(2021)
Episode 13, Season 5

Needed to Happen
I see a lot of reviews that say that Randall is whiny and ungrateful about his adoption. People that are not adopted have absolutely no idea how it feels to start your life by losing both of your biological parents. When adoptees try to talk about how they feel, they are considered "ungrateful." How is this not extremely problematic? We are constantly shoved into a corner and told that our trauma isn't real. But it is real. Look at the science behind it. I'm so glad that this series is touching on topics that have been taboo for far too long.

Adopted Person Here!
I just got done reading a bunch of one and two star reviews for season 5. I KNOW that most people don't understand what it is like to be adopted. Everyone is going on about how political season 5 is. I see people have no sympathy for Randall's life starting with a loss. It makes people uncomfortable to see an adult adoptee come face to face with these sort of issues. Race issues definitely tie in with his adoption as he is a transracial adoptee! Transracial adoptees can struggle throughout their lives with their cultural identity. Most adoptees will struggle with their identity at some point, regardless of race. I'm not saying that Jack and Rebecca raised Randall improperly. They could be the best parents in the world, but it doesn't change the fact that Randall's life started with a trauma. It isn't political, nor a stretch to address this type of issue. Honestly, I wish that more shows would talk about this sort of thing. I've loved this show from the very beginning!

Ravenswood
(2013)

One Of The Worst Shows I've Ever Seen
This PLL spin-off is so bad, it's hard to know where to begin. I am a huge fan of supernatural dramas, but this show doesn't make any sense. First of all, I have seen every episode of PLL and always thought of it as a mystery/drama and have not thought about the series from a supernatural angle whatsoever. How can you make a spin-off centered around ghosts and evil spirits when these types of elements do not (or aren't supposed to) exist in the original show? Am I now led to believe that there are supernatural elements in PLL? These are not questions fans should have to ask themselves during the 4th season of a series.

The way Ravenswood became a spin-off doesn't make sense either. Hanna (who is being stalked and harassed by "A" on a fairly consistent basis) sends her boyfriend (who has been focused on protecting her) off to a creepy town to "look after" Miranda (a girl neither one of them knows). The main plot of the show thus far is that these 5 teens have been marked for death, and are trying to figure a way out of it. I have an interest in Caleb staying alive, because I care about his character. There is no reason why I should/would care about any of the other people in Ravenswood. There is absolutely no character development, just side plots that make the show seem messy and confusing. The fact that almost all of the actors are horrible is icing on the cake. Is it really that hard to drop their Canadian accents?

The only reason I have kept watching Ravenswood is because I didn't want to be lost when it came to crossover episodes. Unfortunately, I'm still lost. I hope the show gets canceled and that Tyler Blackburn (Caleb) will go back to playing a regular on PLL. Although, I'm not sure how that can happen now that he has developed a sixth sense and ghosts are not supposed to exist in PLL universe. Ravenswood is a disaster!

Once Upon a Time
(2011)

Less Than Mediocre
I want to start off by saying that I really wanted to like this show. However, by the 8th episode I realized that it was a big waste of time. I'm going to have to disagree with all of the other reviews comparing this series to Lost. For me, there is absolutely no comparison between the two. Even if the plot is interesting, most of the actors do not have the skills to pull it off. Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) gives an incredibly emotionless performance for someone who is abandoned as a child, and subsequently gives her own child away. Jared Gilmore (Henry Mills) tries, but I find their connection annoyingly lacking. With that said, I think Ginnifer Goodwin is pleasant in the role of Snow White. She was a good choice for this role, as she is accomplished as well as versatile. Goodwin gives off a sense of grace and purity essential for the character. The only other good part about this series is Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin)he is creepy and believable in both roles with is important when the performance from Parilla (Regina Mills/Evil Queen) is laughable.

I think this series had the potential to be great, but the casting was done so poorly, it will forever be less than mediocre in my book.

The Secret Circle
(2011)

Interesting...
I started watching this series after I found out it was a sister show to The Vampire Diaries. The acting was shaky in the beginning and so was my interest. I was pretty skeptical about how everything would play out, but pleased with the results. The story started to pick up by the fourth episode and somewhere along the way, the actors became better with their characters. I've never read the books so i cant comment on how much or how little the characters and or story lines match up. I thought Phoebe Tonkin did a wonderful job as Faye (even though I found that particular character quite annoying). I was a bit disappointed to see this series was canceled. With Charmed lasting as long as it did (and not being nearly as exciting or suspenseful) it should have definitely gone on for at least one more season. This show does end on a cliffhanger, which is extremely frustrating. With that said, it shouldn't keep you from watching this series.

Supernatural
(2005)

Unexpected Awesomeness
I finally decided to check out this show because people had been telling me to watch it for a while. I'm a huge fan of Buffy, as well as the X-Files. I was a little worried about the 2 male leads because I tend to favor strong female leads, and when you get 2 males together there is potential for rampant sexism. Well, I can tell you now, I had nothing to worry about. This is one of the best series I've ever seen.

This is an exciting, suspenseful show about 2 brothers who were raised as demon hunters, and are on a search to find their father who goes missing during a "hunting" trip. The characters of Sam and Dean may be just a bit shaky at first, but now in the series 7th season, they have developed wonderfully.

If you are a fan of supernatural dramas such as Buffy, Angel, Reaper, The X-Files and/or Charmed, you will fall in love with this show.

Boston Legal
(2004)

Liberal Ramblings
I have spent the past several months watching this series from beginning to end. The first 3 seasons of this show, although politically biased, are very entertaining. The last 2 seasons however, border on annoying. I grew up in a very right wing household where I was constantly being hounded about what my political beliefs needed to be. As a result, I don't like left or right wing agendas when it comes to television shows, especially ones that are supposed to be funny. At first Alan carries the show, and it's hilarious. But by the end, I found myself getting bored during his long liberal speeches and losing concentration to the point where I would miss if he won or lost. Denny is great in the beginning as well, even though the character was only created to make all republicans look like idiots. Something else that really gets to me is that with all of the liberal points to be made, sexism oozes from this series. It's not as bad as Ally McBeal, but the focus is on 2 males instead of an anorexic head in the clouds female, so I didn't suspect it would be.

Politics aside, there is no way I could rate this show higher than a 6 because it is majorly lacking when it comes to character continuance. There are at least 5 major characters that are not so much written off, as they just disappear. Fairly large plot holes can be found in different story lines as well.

The best thing about this series is Jerry "Hands" Espenson. Out of all of the characters he shows the most range and growth. I also loved any episodes with Betty White portraying spunky Catherine Piper.

Just know that you dead end with obnoxious liberal ramblings, but you'll enjoy the scenery before you get there.

Ally McBeal
(1997)

How did this character become a lawyer?!
This is one of the worst shows I've been bored enough to sit through. I like Boston Legal and I like the idea of a comedy law show. However, this series is more focused on McBeal finding love and feeling sorry for herself. The idea is that she "needs" a man or she isn't grounded enough to perform simple tasks. This makes you wonder how the character graduated from law school. This coupled with Calista Flockhart's painfully obvious eating disorder makes for the most anti-feminist female lead I've ever had the displeasure of watching.

All that said, the first 2 seasons can be pretty funny at times. I attribute most of the humor to Greg Germann's character Fish, although he can be extremely sexist.

In closing, I'd like to say that apart from the sexism this series so annoyingly demonstrates, I have discovered at least two recycled monologues from Ally McBeal on Boston Legal. I would be looking for that in Harry's Law, but it's important for me now to avoid anything written or created by David. E. Kelley. I don't believe it's okay to be lazy enough when creating series to go back to your writing on a previous show and copy it onto your new script word for word.
