Truman
(2015)

There no manual to assume death
Tomás, a long time friend with Julián visits his mate in Madrid. Julián is ill with cancer for one year and he has decided to stop his treatment and assume death. He has told his decision to his family and friends, but not all of them are ready to accept it. Together, they visit different places in order to arrange the day after Julián's departure. Time to stop, I won' tell you more about the story.

I'm not going to discover the two main actors in the crew. Javier Cámara and Ricardo Darín are normally brilliant and Truman is not different. They By the way, Truman is Julian's dog and his acting is great too. They are omnipresent through the movie and its for the good. Totally opposed in their characters - Javier is sensible and self-contained, whereas Julian is the artists stereotype: impulsive and anarchic - the mix works great.

Although this is a sensitive topic, the movie does not seek an easy tear from the spectator. Actually, it tackles some aspects of this approach to death very humorously.

For people familiar with Madrid, the movie is mostly shot in Las Salesas neighborhood, a very centric area in the city.

Up
(2009)

Amazement
All the technical and cinematographic details of the movie have already been reviewed, so there is little that I can add on that side. There is only one personal comment that i can add and that I think that many people probably shares with me: I never thought that I would be able to weep and laugh with the same movie, and this is what Up is all about: emotion!

And the best part is that some cartoons did it! If you think about it when you see this movie, the plot itself is not that relevant, but all the personal situations and the feelings you can almost read on each character makes this piece so sensitive.

El lince perdido
(2008)

Good entertainment for children
Although I'm not sure if this will have any international distribution, I think it's a quite decent production considering the low budget, specially compared with Pixar and Disney releases.

The story is about a bunch of animals from Doñana National Park in Spain, trying to save other animals kidnapped by the bad guys. There is nothing innovative in the story but it works. The only thing that I don't like is that some situations happen too fast for kids to catch them.

There some winks to nature protection and also to scape movies that I liked.

I hope that next time, under Antonio Banderas protection, this team will be able to compete American movies. We'll see...

El método
(2005)

Good script, actors and suspense
The script is based in in a theater play, and though I'm not familiar with the original, I guess the action probably remains close to the original (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

The cast is a good bunch of popular actors and actresses here in Spain, some of them somewhat popular out of Spain. See Eduardo Noriega, Carmelo Gómez, Ernesto Alterio and Natalia Verbeke. I find the acting very believable in general, maybe Noriega is not that real, but maybe this is what he is supposed to do in his role.

The story: Seven people are dated to have their final interview for an important position in a big company. All of them get together for the interview in the same place and the method used by the company for the final selection is call Gronholm method.

All the action takes place in the interview room and the restrooms. This, in spite of being drawback for the entertainment, makes it more interesting. The director gets rid of superfluous elements and leaves space for character development.

In opposition, and in order to prevent the public from getting lost in so much isolation, the director sets the action in the same day and place of a World Bank and IMF, although this doesn't really have an influence on the story.

My only complaint has to do with some restroom scenes that I believe don't add anything to the movie and look really silly to me.

Very entertaining and good story.
