Fire with Fire
(2012)

Poor hero, and great villain
Placing Bruce Willis, very minor role, in a film and not using him to add to the action and thrill effects of the story is crazy. The villain is better than the hero and the hero once he decides to seek revenge is poorly matched to come against men who live for violence. The basic idea is that a good hearted man will always win the day and be able to rescue who he loves the most. There is a lot blood in this movie, romantic scenes without the sex, and the skilled City detectives and Federal agents are portrayed as totally inept goof-ups. One angry man against a whole lot of prime criminals. This is a wonderful fantasy but is it possible for Hollywood to ever make a realistic crime thriller?

Alcatraz
(2012)

An Okay Sleeper Mystery
Actress Sarah Jones looks very uncomfortable holding a gun and doing the action scenes. I have seen six episodes and now the show is extremely boring, because the writers have not given the audience any clue to the power behind the mystery. Are we to believe that convicts from an old prison are raising havoc in SF and the news-media is quite as well as the rest of the police force. This show would have worked great in the 1980's but it is too far behind the type of mystery shows produced now through BBC, such a Torchwood and Dr.Who. Mystery shows based on Sci Fi needs to have the arch enemy shown briefly in the beginning and they work best with relational team members rather than a competition between the male and female lead detectives. We don't know if this mystery is caused by an alien encounter, demon, or mad scientist and the detectives don't seem to be too interested in resolving this problem either. The Park Ranger lines are totally incorrect, National Park Rangers don't speak and act like prison guards and they would never say the words the writers have these actors saying. Change the writing to serious science fiction mystery, get the X Files Director and this show will go 100 episodes. Sam Neill is a keeper, he gives the show humor and creepiness.
