There Will Be Blood
(2007)

oh yes, there will be.
just got back from an early screening here in san francisco and thought i'd just lay down a few lines. Mr. Anderson was in attendance but did'nt really comment on the film, I would have liked to hear what he had to say, as I have not been so knocked over the head by an American film in so many years. He was humble in his introduction and let the movie speak for itself. It is a near perfect stew of direction, cinematography, score and last but not least, acting. Daniel Day Lewis is absolutely mesmerizing, Paul Dano made me squirm as the wretched young priest. oh my god, i have chills just thinking about both of these performances. they stay with you. a lot of the film reminded me of Terrence malick, though it did'nt emulate him. just a nice reminder. i think i'll watch days of heaven now. i wish there were more films like this coming out of the states, let's keep our fingers crossed.

Morvern Callar
(2002)

beautiful
i'm sorry, not going to go into detail, but i think this is one of those films that strikes people like a cobra or leaves people totally cold. i saw this movie years ago when it came out, i was a fan of ratcatcher and went to see this when it came out and was absolutely blown away by it. i've recommended it to people ever since. i have the DVD and have loaned it out numerous times to such different responses. i have'nt watched it for a long time but i find myself thinking about it a lot. in a good way. i watch a lot of films. a lot. this one has wrapped it's tendrils around my brain for some reason more than any film in recent memory. i love it and i wish lynne ramsay would make another film for the love of god. now.

Vendredi soir
(2002)

interesting, nice.
if you liked her previous films, chances are, you'll like this. it's a fine film if you're not looking for big chase sequences involving mini coopers or big star romance, it's interesting and pleasant and nice and not at all a waste of time, in fact, I loved it. don't pay any attention to the one that posted before me. yeah, thats right, i just took a shot at frenchy who likes his plots thick. well, there's lots of films to choose from out there so having the option to choose tween different styles is often a beautiful thing. if you liked beau travail, you'll love this. please see it, because I guarantee you'll think about it long after. and i really like beau travail, all the dancing and the magic and that guy, denis lavant, who's in all the leos carax movies, o.k., i'm drunk but i really like this movie, you should check it out. nice, interesting.

Il conformista
(1970)

Please put this film on DVD!!!
This is by far one of the great cinematic achievements of our time. The crown jewel of Bertollucci and Storaros' careers for certain. Unfortunately, the VHS treatment (that is now out of print) doesn't even come close to doing it justice and only a handful of video stores still carry those old worn out full screen copies. If you ever get a chance to see this film in it's full theatrical glory, DO NOT PASS IT UP.

The Conformist so deserves a criterion overhaul onto DVD. Is anybody listening?
