Soldier's Girl
(2003)

Very Touching Film
This is the story of a soldier, Barry Winchell, and his girlfriend, a trans gender showgirl named Calpernia Adams. Barry is a private soldier in the airborne infantry and kind of had a very masculine image among the group. Barry, who is not gay, has little personal conflict when deciding to be with Calpernia and his friends from the infantry especially Fisher cannot not accept the fact that he is in love with a man. This movie made me cry when I watched it. The acting is superb, and the characters are realistically complicated and not at all watered down. The relationship between Barry and Calperina is lovingly drawn, and I really felt their connection throughout the film. This is such a sad movie because Barry was basically killed for being in love and because of the wrong assumption and hatred from his bunkmates.

Princesa
(2001)

Princesa's life
Princsesa is a film based on a true story of a Brazillian transsexual who was dreaming to have a sex operation, which eventually lead her to do prostitution to make her dream come true. This film shows the realistic side of prostitution, how transvestites and transsexual work for money enable to survive, it shows how dark and miserable their lives are. Fernanda is one of the prostitutes that work in the streets of Milan, she wanted to earn a lot of money to support her sex change operation and also to support her family back in Brazil. This two main things are the reason why she moved to Milan until he met Gianni. Their love story was very romantic, and shows how even prostitutes may experience a true love from a stranger in the street. Fernanda was confident about herself that she is pretty enough to earn money for her sex change operation but this confidence fades away when she started to go out with Gianni. With Gianni, she felt the love of a real man to a woman but at the same time this love also made her feel that no matter how much Gianni loves her and even she go through a sex change she will never be a real woman because she cannot bear a child. This was the main reason why she decided to go back to the street and sacrifice her love for Gianni.

Overall this movie is really a good one. It touches the reality of prostitution world, the differences of transvestite and transsexual and also the true love that can occur between a transsexual and a heterosexual.

Normal
(2003)

A very touching and inspiring film
Normal is drama love story that deals with a solid foundation of a married couple which became complicated after the husband (Tom Wilkinson) confess that he believes that he was a woman that is just trapped in a man's body. I personally think that this film is very realistic, it showed how this gender identity problem can occurred even to normal people, couple and families. As for this film, Roy and Irma portrayed a very loving and religious couple, who would have thought that this kind of problem can possible happen even to almost perfect couple after more than two decades of being together. In this film, the gender identity problem was the main conflict but as you get to watch the film up to the latter part, you will realize that it's not only about the gender problem, it's more on acceptance and love for each other. It showed that no matter the circumstances, Irma accepted Roy for who he is and who he wanted to be, she loved him and supported him all the way until Roy eventually felt the self- satisfaction he always wanted. Overall this film was an awesome piece, a very touching and inspiring story for all the couple out there who are going through this tough situation in life.

Beautiful Boxer
(2003)

Very Inspiring film..
Beautiful Boxer is based on a true story of Thailand's damed transsexual kickboxer. Beautiful Boxer is a very touching action drama film that punches straight into the heart and mind of a boy who fights like a man so he can become a woman. Nong Toom is not like the typical transvestite who's afraid of showing their real identity, he felt that he needed to be true to himself to achieve his goals in life, which really helped him to fulfill his dreams in the end. To achieve his ultimate goal of total femininity. Touching, funny and packed with breathtaking Thai kickboxing scenes, Beautiful Boxer traces Nong Toom's childhood, teenage life as a traveling monk, grueling days in boxing camps and explosive matches where he knocks out most of his opponents across Thailand and Japan. Overall, this film is very inspiring to everyone who is in the same shoes with Nong Toom, that nothing is impossible when you are really eager and willing to fight for your dream.

Just Like a Woman
(1992)

Transvestism
Just Like A Woman is very entertaining light comedy film. It follows the story of Gerald, a transvestite man who is having a huge dilemma whether he he should quit being a transvestite or live a life of an ordinary heterosexual man to avoid complications in his life. It was actually my first time to watch a transvestite movie and I really enjoyed it and at the same time I've learned so many new things about being a transvestite. When I first saw the scene where Gerald dressed up as a woman in front of Monica, I actually thought that as he transformed his looks from a man into a woman, his sexuality changes too but clearly it did not. I have learned that transvestite people are not weird and not because they have the urge of dressing up like a woman is that they have some mental problem. This movie clearly shows that being a transvestite is not a hindrance to be a normal person and as for Gerald, even he is a transvestite he was successful with his career and can live a normal life once he is back from being Geraldine to Gerald. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film and recommend that everyone who are not fully educated with this kind of stuff should watch this film, it will definitely open your mind to a more realistic view of sexual identities.

Gazon maudit
(1995)

Such a hilarious film!
French Twist is a sexual, yet also is a light romantic comedy film which shows the different aspects of gender roles and homosexuality which is not usually seen in a mainstream film. For people who has watch this kind of film for the first time, this could be really shocking yet interesting and humorous plot of story. This film, shows how it is possible for a person to just change their sexuality in just a matter of flirting with the same sex, or it could also be possible that their real sexuality was hidden inside them for a long time and was just discovered when the right situation happens that pushes their real sexuality to come out. It also showed the different personality that each gender has, in a very polite way though. On how Laurent criticizes Marijo because of her sexuality was not really super annoying, instead, all their clash scenes were very funny. The director successfully turned a supposedly intense scenario of a homosexual love triangle into a very humorous and light scene.

This film really did a great job on making the audience nervous and excited for what is going to happen with the married couple when a third party started to show up in the picture. Over all I think that French Twist is a very unique film and will let the audience know that in love , gender doesn't matter.
