Ad Astra
(2019)

A whole lot of NOTHING! READ THIS.. THEN DON'T GO.
This is why I hardly go to the movies any more.. I thought this one might be worth seeing on the big screen. All it was is a waste of money and time. I am convinced that someone paid someone under the table at Rotten Tomatoes to rate this piece of garbage over 80 percent fresh, which led me to decide to go see it. Yeah.. it's not even close.. It's bad, a really bad movie. It reminds me of the slow, lethargic, melancholy, and absolute depressing production, acting, writing and horrific directing that went into First Man (2018) which was the absolute WORST portrayal of a great American hero in Neil Armstrong (played by a melancholy, over-rated 'Canadian' actor ---which should have been my first warning sign it would be bad). This movie has exactly that same feel, almost a rip-off of that same lethargic, close-up-face scenes and SLOW and quasi-claustrophobic and absolutely BORING style.. that some MORON once decided was a good way to make a movie, and a series of MORONS have followed since, right off that cliff. What is happening in movie making? This one had no cast with any significant roles (except Pitt, who I like..especially in his previous movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). This movie has NO plot, NO story development, NO character development, absolutely horrible writing, garbage script and most of all a bad director who made it all happen. STUDIOS... QUIT MAKING MOVIES OF THIS STYLE.. THEY STINK!!

The Hustle
(2019)

Has the quality of a junior high school theater class putting on a performance of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"
THIS MOVIE WAS SO DIFFICULT TO WATCH.. It was VERY poorly cast, acted, written and directed. It reminds us how well and professionally-made the previous movie "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988) that this is a remake of, was so well cast, very well acted, and by very talented comedy actors/actresses and professionally written and directed. This movie "The Hustle" (2019) felt like a performance by a bunch of junior high school students, or 20-somethings at best, putting forth their best attempt of making their own version of that movie. There could have been a great potential for a women-leading-role version of that movie --- but this one FAILED horribly due to its cast. I don't even know her name, that's how much I think of her on-screen talent or lack thereof, and how much I prefer to continue NOT knowing her by name, but I'm referring the one who was cast 2nd to Hathaway.. She made this movie absolutely atrocious (I also blame her director who allowed so many scenes to be the final cut, when it looks like they are just practicing in every scene -- especially that person). She was so very difficult to watch. Her acting (I've sen before) is blase, dull, lacking in the utmost way any talent whatsoever -- only moviegoers who lack any eye for comedic talent would support her) and she is certainly not worth the price of any movie ticket. I've vaguely seen her in other movies and thought the same. Then there's Hathaway's un-commanding presence as well as some of the worst use of foreign accents I've ever seen by an actor. It's not her fault.. she was just a poor choice for the role, most anyone would agree, which only proves this movie was horribly cast. The casting is its #1 problem, very poor acting follows as the second worst thing about this movie, and finally, very poor directing/producing that allowed it all to happen. This movie should not have been made the way it was. Where Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a classic, and collectable -- I proudly own it on Blu-ray, The Hustle is downright forgettable (and unforgivable) and no one will remember it by next year. But then that's just sugar coating it.

Apollo 11
(2019)

"Apollo 11" The Perfect Film to offset that garbage of a movie, "First Man"
This documentary is PERFECT in capturing The United States at its best, in one of its many best moments in history ... an amazing achievement like no other, accomplished by some of the best, educated minds coming together for a common cause. This documentary offers all REAL footage, gathered together from a massive amount of first-time-seen footage from the Archives of NASA and other sources.

Also, it is indeed, the perfect film to offset that garbage of a movie, "First Man" that was recently released that starred that highly-overrated actor Ryan Gosling who brings nothing but melancholy to every character he plays and atrociously did so to Neil Armstrong's character (Hey, if I spoke that infrequent in a movie with a stupid look on my face I could act too) and not to mention absolutely HORRIBLE director, Chazelle, who's intent, I thoroughly believe, was to take all of the joy out of this American story and detach it from being an actual achievement of the United States and add insult to injury by making everyone in it highly flawed and depressed, including Neil Armstrong. Who was a GREAT upbeat man, but who just hated talking to the moronic media (..that alone, by the way, makes him a hero with me). This film, Apollo 11, takes you back to what it truly was: amazing men & women in unapologetically the best country in the world, achieving an AMAZING accomplishment to place a human on the moon and return them safely home. Just stop and think about that -- a human on the moon. Now go see it! It will remind you how amazing this country has been, and will make you think how it's changing and needs to do what it takes to continue to be the best and not weakened by the global dilutionists. USA!!

Polar
(2019)

Perfect Display of Everything Wrong with Our Society and Movie Making
I only give it a 3 and not lower because Mads Mikkelsen is in it, and he's been an actor I've enjoyed watching since Casino Royale (2006). This movie displays everything disgustingly wrong with movie makers today and their views on what makes a good movie. Too many movies, sadly, going in this direction. The garbage, moronic characters, who carry you through one blood bath scene to the next, with nothing rich, but only the most moronic dialogue, I feel, reflect the minds of the movie makers/writers themselves. Garbage. Pure garbage.

Bird Box
(2018)

READY TO CATCH THE SYMBOLISM? ...THE VERY POINT OF THIS MOVIE IS PROVEN BY REVIEWERS WHO DON'T GET IT
I read where this is turning into a smash hit as Netflix's largest download in the shortest time ---breaking streaming records, they're saying. Netflix's "Bird Box" with Sandra Bullock. This movie makes you think.. That's what I like about it.

After watching it, I definitely recommend it ---heck, I think they should show it to high school classes to teach our youth about how to prioritize what is important in life and how a society should protect itself from its own progressions. It reminds me a lot like "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson (1948) a short story that a lot of us were taught to read in high school ---how it opens of your eyes to humanity, how society behaves and what society does to itself without being aware of it. I especially recommend watching this movie with your significant other, as it will make you appreciate your loved ones, while thinking about humanity, where we're headed based on what we prioritize as important in life: Family, resisting those things that disconnect us. etc.. There is tons of symbolism in this movie.. especially with the sounds of birds, etc.. It's a psycho thriller (bloody and rated R) but with a VERY deep meaning behind it.

To truly get the most out of it (and this is not giving away any spoilers here ---no more than what the synopsis summarizes) watch it with the idea of this: There are clues in the movie of humanity feeling "disconnected." Look for them. Think about what forces are causing this (I have my idea of what it is, do you?) and the multitude of problems with humanity that are on the rise from that disconnect, whether it be from a lack of family structure, or anything else you might guess. Think about what entities are there in our society that are so easily-influential on the masses? Think about what is causing a rise in things like psychotic behavior, suicides, loneliness. Think about what evil has the power to influence by merely making you look at it ...so as to try to influence you do so more ...where it acts to amplifies one's fears, create deeper sadness for that person, and then, ultimately, it influences one to destroy their own life in the process. Think of anything like this that is destroying humanity at alarming rates. Then imagine this thing being an actual, physical, more-obvious antagonist in this film, that, instead of slowly, literally causes people to kill themselves instantly in this film, just by looking at it.

Now figure it out for yourself.. What is the evil demon in this movie?

Enjoy!

First Man
(2018)

Wow.. I hope this isn't how Historical movies are portrayed from now on.
If you are near sighted, like to view everything from 3 feet away and go through life with peripheral blinders on to understand your world, you might like this movie ---because this director doesn't know what a wide-angled lens is. If you feel the entire world around you should be viewed as emotionally depressing more than you seek to give a sense of triumph to mankind, you mike like this movie. If you feel all of the above then you will LOVE this director. This 'director' sits way atop the over-rated ones Hollywood spits out these days. Oh and.. they should put a Surgeon General's Warning on this director's ridiculous, 'gotta-be-different' just for the sake of 'being different' filming style, because if you suffer from epileptic seizures you won't like this movie. Best thing I can say about it: The sets, wardrobe, etc. are very authentic to the smallest detail. The worst thing I can say about this movie: It needed a different director, cinematographer and editor. ...oh, and script/writer(s). Neil Armstrong, American Heroes, NASA technological achievements, including the Lunar Landing are something to be celebrated by humanity and ESPECIALLY celebrated are the AMERICAN men and women at that time who made it all happen. This movie views it from the standpoint of filmmakers seemingly wanting to convey their own depressed, flawed view of humanity ahead of anything triumphant. Shame on them. I sure hope Neil Armstrong's family at least approved of this dismal take on an American Hero. Otherwise they should legally go after the makers of this film for wrongful defamation of character.

Annihilation
(2018)

Wow.. I didn't walk out because I couldn't believe it would stay that bad. It does.
Absolute garbage. Poor story development, plot development, character development. Dark and dull. Poor acting, poor directing. Horrible and uninspiring dialogue that a 5-five year old child could write because all they say is, "I don't know." which convinces me the writers were all pot smokers and heroin addicts. I also don't remember a movie with so few cast members in it either. What lazy joke of a production. And the writers.. seriously.. where this story leads you .. The writers just need to stay off the drugs. Even the sound editors annoyed me as they nearly blew out my eardrums at the end. ..which makes it not only a forgettable and regrettable experience to waste your time, but an experience that physically harms you with it's effects. Lawsuit anyone?

Just Getting Started
(2017)

I only give a rating for charm and fun - against dark and grim movies today.
I started with a 2, but I give it a 3 for charm and moderate innocent fun - against so much of the garbage dark and grim superhero and political garbage movies filling the theaters today, but seriously, how did this movie make it to the theaters? The Director/Writer along with the Editor should have their salaries docked for such lousy work. I mean absolute garbage efforts --- in all three - writing - directing (which allowed poor acting from taking the worst cuts - and editing -- the absolute worst. They managed to take three main-stream super star actors and nearly ruin their careers (likely not) with this VERY poorly written, VERY poorly directed and oh my gosh.. I can't say it enough.. the editing is the worst. Talk about rush rush and no substance to the story development. The only thing I truly liked about this movie was the colorful and sun-filled backdrop of the location it was filmed made it fun to sit through, and seeing the faces of Jones, Russo and Freeman -- three actors I who's work I have enjoyed so much over the decades, along with many supporting roles of some big names -- made it watchable. But that's it. Glad this was gifted to me, and I didn't pay to go see this movie on my own dime.

American Made
(2017)

Very Entertaining --Cruise & Crew talent at its best
Very entertaining. This movie was made with every one of its fibers to entertain. -- instead of just focusing on action shots alone to carry it like so many other lousy action movies do, this one has all the other qualities a "real" movie has: Very well written, acted, camera work, the pace of it is perfect ---exciting through and through. Except for the jabs at my side of the political aisle--that was hard to see. Every administration (Dem or Rep) is guilty of so much behind-the-scenes poor decision making in our history. So I hope it doesn't turn anyone an opposite aisle. But this movie is truly a success because of it's main actor, Tom Cruise, What can I say?... At the same time I have no over-the-top stumbling over myself fondness to go see all his movies, those that I do go to it's so noticeable-- he just succeeds time after time in making fun to watch movies. His on screen presence (true talent) is tops in the industry. Every time you see Cruise in a movie it's not Oh there's Tom Cruise in this movie or that movie playing this/that person, but instead you lose yourself in the actual character he plays and you just sit back and enjoy the show. This is a sign of true talent, and Mr. Cruise has talent on screen and never fails. He is what a lifetime achievement award is made for --and will be handed to one day -- hopefully many, many years away. Hats off to him yet again, he works hard to entertain and he delivers every time. (although I haven't seen all of his movies -- those I don't care for the genre: i.e. mummies or vampires.. so I have no idea how he does in those.) Go see this movie! and leave your young kids at home.

Renewed my faith in moronic horror movies
I never go to horror movies -- haven't seen one in over a decade -- because nearly every one of them is made by those lacking talent for an audience that lacks any understanding of what potential the horror genre is not living up to -- other than taking everyone's money. They are never scary, never frightening, never edge-of-your seat thrilling or any of the above -- OK, maybe if you're a 13 year old. I just don't comprehend what people see in so much garbage that is produced for this movie genre. There is so much potential for some great horror films, yet they are, time after time, so poorly made. A movie that truly gets into one's psyche and creeps you out -- I suppose that's my definition of a horror movie, but show me one that's been made that does that for anyone else than the teenage-mentality masses. That's because they don't know how to make them. I thought this one might be the exception -- because the trailer looked good. ...and that's where my compliments end --- The marketing was truly the most talented thing behind this movie, hence it's opening-weekend revenue. But don't let that fool you. It was boring, boring, boring. Nothing is thoroughly explained. The characters are unconvincing as it is overly acted in every scene, therefore horribly acted. Slow. boring. Not scary. A real snoozer.

Aside from it's weak points as a movie, reminds us we have nothing on the unknown powers of the Universe
Numerous plot holes and very weak script aside, it's one of the most thought-provoking subjects in a movie I've seen in long while -- and on such an interesting subject --Us. We humans. What are we? What are we all about? That we only use 10% of our brain capacity is a myth, the science world has corrected this, and the movie jumps around the facts and talking points, but still this movie is good for raising so many questions, and to help one think outside of the only physical world we see with our eyes --and keep us thinking ---so it's amazing to explore that at least, through this movie. For those who can't recognize or appreciate the deeper-meaning side of such a subject, and only find brilliance in a movie filled with computer-aided phony action graphics run amuck, then stop right now. Your money will be better spent buying a ticket to Transformers or something and all of the brilliance in dialog and subject matter it contains. Nobody will hold it against you. We ARE still evolving after all.

Brilliance because it's different --is good enough
Writer/Director, Richard Linklater, again applies his artistic style of keeping every scene real to every day life, with plenty of real humor, real feelings, real drama mixed in, allowing you to attach yourself to the experience of watching this film unlike no other, entertained NO LESS, as any level of tears and laughter you experience will prove that. It leaves you with plenty to think about, as the dialog itself is styled in the director's trademark of providing the characters engaged in insightful or philosophical topics --this brings about the experience of walking out of his movies drawing your own conclusions. As to how much enrichment you wish to take from Linklater's movies, it's up to you -- but no doubt, you WILL feel and you WILL take something --- hence, the beauty of his films.

Best compliment: As long as this movie is, at 2 hours 45 minutes, it could have been even longer and Richard Linklater's movies will still keep you interested.

Worst thing to say about it: It's a movie that shows the process of growing up, sure, but chosen from a viewpoint of a family struggling with very specific issues, as if that is the "typical" presentation of a family, I don't think so. But perhaps if a more common family had been chosen, that doesn't have alcohol, drugs and divorce issues to contend with, the mass movie goers might find that boring to watch, I don't know?

The stand-out brilliance of this film is it's pioneering approach of 12-years of filming a single movie! Amazing. And great to watch, just for that alone.

The performances of Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette (playing the role of the parents) are excellent. These two steal every scene, and award worthy for ANY award-giving institutions out there --including Oscar.

The main character of Mason, played by Ellar Coltrane, with a project like this, could have had the production team faced with an older actor later on who might not have had the talent to act as a teenager (little could they be sure of this at the start of such a lengthy project) but he can act. His performance actually improves with age --leaving you liking the character even more by the end of the film.

All I can ask is what original work do you have planned next, Linklater? Because, like your Before Sunrise series, A Scanner Darkly and other one-of-a-kind original movies, I very much look forward to your next project. I sense a lifetime achievement award for this director's film making. Those filmmakers of the likes of Woody Allen have NOTHING on this guy.

America: Imagine the World Without Her

Biased Fools as Industry Critics
Well, now we know the politics, unbalanced viewpoints and shamefully biased tendencies of the critics... thereby discrediting every dang one of them who voted ridiculously low on this movie. Out of nearly 40+ movies currently out in theaters, this movie has THE (let me repeat: THE lowest average Meta Score rating from the critics. Think of how many movies can be horrible, outright poorly made out of over 40, and this one is still rated the lowest, at the very bottom. It is a good documentary at it's worst; one that lists truths after truths -that records do not deny. But the left chooses to overlook this for the sake of their own genocide agenda to discredit this nation's history and those who built it, and yet, to these critics, it's the worst movie out of over 40 listed and currently in theaters. Anti-American, biased fools, in a business where you are expected to be neutral and unbiased. You're a disgrace to your position in the industry. Your name is now in print for everyone to discredit you.
