Capote
(2005)

Enjoyable
This movie felt really slow at times, but all in all I enjoyed the film as a whole. It's a good story, told well. Hoffman definitely deserves his award for this one. I don't know why but I've been watching a lot of Philip Seymour Hoffman movies lately and noticing him in films I didn't realize he was in before (i.e. Twister). I was expecting a biography of Truman Capote's life from birth to death, but this one pretty much focuses on what he went through to author "In Cold Blood." Even though it's not as biographical as I assumed it would be, I learned a lot about Capote just by watching this picture.

I know it's no longer in theaters; So, I suggest that you rent it if you're ever in the mood for something a little depressing.

Mission: Impossible III
(2006)

1000 times better than the first 2
This movie really leaves the first two in the dust. I have some friends of whom didn't want to see the film because they were afraid Tom Cruise would be... Tom Cruise. Anyway! I can proudly announce that the entire cast acts their butts off in this flick and they do it well, but Philip Seymour Hoffman really stole the show. He was bad @$$ with a capitol A, and I never thought I'd say this, but he was kinda sexy too. It's so refreshing to have a villain that does what he says he's going to do and doesn't monologue the hero to death. Not to mention that the writers were realistic in this one: main characters get hurt.

I've already seen Mission Impossible III twice; So it's safe to say that this movie is worth paying full price for a seat at the Big Screen.

The Feast of All Saints
(2001)

Too Depressing for Me
The story and the show were good, but it was really depressing and I hate depressing movies. Ri'Chard is great. He really put on a top notch performance, and the girl who played his sister was really awesome and gorgeous. Seriously, I thought she was Carmen Electra until I saw the IMDb profile. I can't say anything bad about Peter Galleghar. He's one of my favorite actors. I love Anne Rice. I'm currently reading the Vampire Chronicles, but I'm glad I saw the movie before reading the book. This is a little too"real" for me. I prefer Lestat and Louis's witty little tiffs to the struggles of slaves. Eartha Kitt was so creepy and after her character did what she did The movie was ruined for me; I could barely stand to watch the rest of the show. (sorry for the ambiguity, but I don't want to give anything away) Sorry, but it's just not my type of show.

Cause for Alarm!
(1951)

You don't need fancy cinematography!
When I came across this film on PBS I wasn't going to watch, but it has an attractive quality that sort of sucks you in. Once things started rolling I was glued. It proves that you don't need expensive sets and/or effects to make a great film.

"Cause for Alarm" is suspenseful, and creative, and the only film of it's kind that I have ever come across. I'd recommend it for anyone who doesn't mind watching a black & white with a better plot and better acting than most movies made now-a-days.

I wouldn't be surprised if some big-shot producer somewhere came along in the next few years or so to remake this film. They do it to anything good. It's too easy to take something that's already good, put some frills on it, and release it in theaters as the beautiful banal junk that plays in theaters now. I'm not about to stand on a soap box and go off on a tangent.

So... I recommend that you check this one out! It's worth your time.

American Psycho
(2000)

Kinda Funny; Kinda Scary!
American Psycho was a little too dirty. I didn't enjoy seeing so many nude shots with the prostitutes or the bed scenes with that pot-head chick Bateman was having a affair with, Some of that could have been cut out or shortened, but for the most part I enjoyed this movie. Some scenes were really funny. I feel bad for thinking that Bateman's behavior was funny, because the film isn't categorized as a dark comedy, but there are plenty of scary scenes. Bateman is charismatic, intelligent, classy, and frightening. I applaud Christian Bale for taking on this role. Lately he's been casted as sadistic, scary characters that audiences can't help but take an interest in.

I can't wait to see him as Batman. He'll play it deliciously. I hope he plays the sadist again - he does it so well - not that I don't love his singing, dancing, Disney side (because I do).

Secretary
(2002)

Genious! Spader Kicks A** (no pun intended)
This movie absolutely genious! The characters are perfect for each other: a masochist and a sudomasochist. The casting is excellent. the lead characters have great chemistry. Spader is hilarious and Gyllenhaal is adorable. I know plenty of people who are apprehensive about seing this film, because of the masochism, but don't worry; it is very tastefully done without candy-coating or covering it up. I would consider this movie a dark comedy with a romantic twist. So, if you like films like Snatch, Death to Smoochy, Fight Club, Office Space and others you will love this one.

War of the Buttons
(1994)

it was like watching a train wreck
I was so board but curious as to what would happen to these boys next. It was like watching a train wreck I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

I did like the ending though. It was very cute. I'm still trying to decide whether i liked it or not. I think that maybe I did. The War of the Buttons is the type of movie you watch on on a rainy day just because there is nothing better to watch on TV, and you're too lazy to put a video in. The actors were talented for their age. If you like movies like The Black Stallion, then this movie is perfect for you.

Speaking of Sex
(2001)

Spader is kinda like a squirrel in a doctor's outfit
James Spader was so adorable in this movie. His geeky quarks and pitifulness are so cute that he kinda reminds me of a squirrel in a scientist's costume or a doctor's outfit. His character is put through so many embarrassing situations that you kinda want to take him home and keep him like a pet or something. Bill Murry seemed out of place. There was absolutely no chemistry between him and O'Hara. His acting was machanical and the performance was cheesy. Melora Walters pulls out an okay performance. She starts out strong, but all of a sudden at the end of the film she is so different; like she's not staying faithful to the character. This is a good sit on the couch with a girlfriend or two movie, if you are looking for something to make fun of. All in All I think I enjoyed it.
