First Knight
(1995)

Horrid
There's not much point in reviewing a movie this old, but this bugged me so much, I will.

Firstly I have just finished reading the original translated version, which took me a few months. This movie has very little to do with the original stories of king arthur and his knights. No Merlin, no magic, no grand adventures, no mention of the other knights of the round table .

To top it off, Arthur was too old, Lancelot was too American, the choreography was garbage. The special effects lame. The dialogue: cheese-ball. The premise weak. No back story, and the ending, pathetic and mind boggling. At what point did Arthur find Lancelot to be the truest????

Now, you may think I'm being harsh since this was made in the 90s... But all I can say is, brave heart, jurassic Park, independence day etc etc. So many movies where superior, be it story or special effects.

So in conclusion, if you're looking for an accurate representation of the tales of King Arthur, you will not find it here. And if you're looking for an epic medieval tale, you also won't find it here.

End of rant.

The Suicide of Rachel Foster
(2020)

Almost perfected Horror
I felt I had to review this game, as aspects of this game are what I have been looking for. In a horror game, for a very long time.

Without spoiling I will attempt to speak to the various aspects of the game.

Firstly, some say it is not a horror game. I will tell you, that this game is horror, the game is very subtle, but slowly and deliberately works into your mind, causing a palpable paranoia as you wander the giant hotel. I found myself constantly feeling watched, and peering down the empty halls expecting someone or something to arrive at any moment. The sound, the music, the graphics, and the relationship between the main characters gives such a sense of reality, the horror seems to be rooted in our world somehow. No over the top horror tropes and no cartoony scares.

Secondly, some critics have claimed that the way they approached the taboo nature of the narrative, was done inappropriately. Again without spoiling I will attempt to address this issue. I am a licensed therapist and I'd like to say that the way they handled this topic in my opinion was very tactful. It was presented through different characters perspectives, and they attended to all of these in a balanced way. I do not believe that they were condoning the behavior of certain characters. If anything that part of the narrative added to the discomfort of the game, as it is a uncomfortable topic and contains many emotions and human behaviors that are not easily addressed and dealt with.

Overall the game wasn't completely perfect. The ending kinda speed away and I am not sure I loved the conclusion,however.....

HORROR GAME DEVELOPERS NEED TO TAKE A LESSON FROM THIS GAME WHEN WANTING TO CREATE A HEIGHTENED STATE OF FEAR FOR THEIR PLAYERS....

True horror needs to be rooted in our humanity. Horror that 'could' actually happen, is the scariest without a doubt.

The atmosphere though was perfected and I hope to see more games like this. 9/10.

Caveat
(2020)

Misstep
The first twenty minutes were masterful. The mystery, the isolation, the environment. Hell, I watch ALOT of horror movies and the intro was solid. Very creepy. Mind you the painting looked a little cartoony but still fairly effective. The problem was I believe, is that it revealed too much, too quickly. They should of left the reveal till atleast after half way, ramping up the creepiness on the way.... But too much too quick, kinda killed the suspense, and I lost interest as it went on. Otherwise the music was good, but the young girl didn't seem convincing. This was 'aight.'

The Silence
(2019)

Nothing, Nothing good about it
That was crud. Apologies to anyone who liked that. But that was cheesy, cringey, irrelevant, confusing, smh. D grade horror at its best, E grade writing, B grade acting, Z grad plot. Embarrassingly bad. Just Horrid.

Glass
(2019)

??? Strange!! ??
That was really bizarre... I was enjoying it up until half way through and then the feces hit the fan. I have defended M Night in the past. But this time I felt my blood boiling as every scene become abstract and disjointed. I get that now there was a 'point' to all of the choppy editing, but it didn't pay off. And like what another reviewer said David Dunn's death was heinous.

great acting though. ***

Kingdom
(2019)

EXCELLENT
Absolutely epic program. This is hands down the best horror series I have watched in the last few years. Great set pieces, editing, atmosphere, characters, narrative & music. This is engaging and chilling at times. Action packed without being cheesy or boring. A+++

Black Mirror
(2017)

Terrible
Completely horrible game. I was lured in by the trailer... I really like RPG games, I love the Gothic setting, I Love H P Lovecraft. But this was painful. Loading time lengths that we had in the early 00's or even the 90s, glitches. bugs. awkward moving/controls. extremely linear game play, cringey mouth animations. wooden voice acting.

The set pieces and story were fairly good but they didn't compensate for the game as a whole.

As the game came to a close i realized the trailer was more engaging but didn't even feature anything remotely similar to the trailer.

Very expensive for a short dated low budget game too.

on HLTB.com says the game is 5 hours long...but i think the game was about 2hrs and the loading times were 3 hours.... :/

Castle Rock
(2018)

This was not Stephen King
I had the series on my watch list for months.... I love Stephen King, I have read many of his books. I have seen his adaptions...even the bad ones. This was not Stephen King. This was J.J Abrams....AKA LOST. The entire series was 'lost' in a jumbled narrative.Which ended up circling back around. It was utterly pointless. The finish line was the start line the middle was irrelevant. It was not scary enough, It wasn't atmospheric enough. There was too much mystery that it did not allow us to get a tangible insight into the characters.

The positive points - ...sometimes...i repeat 'sometimes' it felt like it was edging toward something...special...The actors were good, the locations were good, the cinematography was good.... blah blah blah...

The biggest let down was the use of EASTER EGGS. If its based on the Stephen king mythos...give it to us. Don't give us an original story...with a few random reminders that this is, or rather 'should be' connecting us to the world of Stephen King.

As a fan I wanted Stephen King's castle Rock. Stephen king's works are character driven. His stories enable you to connect with the characters in an almost intimate way...these characters were presented as too mysterious to feel any sense of care for them.

It was really disappointing ...maybe season 2 will be a more simple story, focused in on character development and while building tension that grows to a satisfying climax....

Siren
(2018)

Cringe
Cringey, Cheesy and unfathomable. I am utterly shocked as to why rotten tomatoes has the ratings sooo high on this. 9 times out of 10 I agree with rotten tomatoes. THIS???? WTH? This program is squeaky clean. No gritty real life feel, no sense of dread or apprehension. It feels like a cross between 7th heaven/ hallmark movies and early 90s "bad" Stephen king low budget films. My wife and i preempted most of the lines of dialogue...which just made us wince more as we watched the first episode. I feel like this type 'story' has been told many many times before and much much better than this disappointing mess.

Cold Moon
(2016)

Not entirely sure about this one.
This is a difficult movie to review. It had both good acting and bad acting. Good visual effects and bad visual effects. Interesting story line and a boring story line. The start played out kind-a-like a 90s B movie and then it got better, then it got worse, then better, then worse.Christopher Lloyd appeared all of 10-15 minutes throughout. Tommy Wiseau said 1 - 2 lines...so giving them first billing is dishonest. Overall there were some OK scares and I Liked the bizarre imagery at times. Otherwise the story was a bit disjointed and the editing felt a bit jerky. It wasn't good enough to like, but not bad enough to hate. 4/10

Kholat
(2015)

Just Meh
Now apart from the score, and the graphics...which i thought were not as good as everyone else thought, but OK. This game was just dull. I personally found it slow and sluggish, I played the first few acts and lost interest. Granted i had just finished playing resident evil bio hazard...and to compare this to that is absurd. But even so I felt the controls were quite awkward, the plot was not very engaging at all. I play a hell of a lot of horror games and this was below average. Unscary, tedious, plodding and just not immersive, it was def low budget to the point where I feel annoyed that i payed money for it. JUST MEH

Among the Sleep
(2014)

Amount the sleep
This game starts off intriguing. Has reasonable amounts of suspense throughout. Its very similar to layers of fear in the sense that it doesn't quite create enough dread or immersion when faced with the prospect of death in the game.

Positive aspects include. interesting premise, interesting puzzles to work through. Great to see indy developers trying to create a unique story telling platform - *A gaming experience from a child's perspective* which is really fun and adds to a generally creepy atmosphere.

unfortunately the game is quite a lot shorter than i expected and i paid a reasonable amount for it. As the story unfolds it becomes quite predictable but overall was a good effort. Fun for a couple of hours escape but nothing to rave about.

Beyond the Gates
(2016)

Just not good
I am not angry, I am not disappointed. I am completely numb. That was slow and very tedious, complete with uninteresting and unlikable characters, Slow plot, just a plain boring story. I felt lethargic just watching it. I kept getting pulled away from it and hoping something would happen to bring me back... I usually love horror and adventure and low budget horror too. Apart from a couple of good effects moments, this movie was un-engaging, lacking any emotion or even humor (if they were trying to go the comedic route). It was the movie version of the character Eeyore...slow and sluggish Unimpressed... not recommended if you want something immersive or engaging. Boring, Pointless, Time waster...but that's just my opinion.

They Found Hell
(2015)

Not horrible - but pretty damn Cheesy
Its is a T.V movie, so perhaps i had a too higher opinion going in, but it is what it is.. Some Good points - Sets were good, premise and story line were very intriguing, some of the costumes and characters were great as well..... unfortunately 'the actors'...who they were i do not know? and weather I should blame them or the script i am not entirely sure. But the Acting was clichéd and cringe worthy to say the least. Had they had better direction and dialogue this may have been something to be enjoyed. However like so many horror movies I have seen lately, there is no sense of realism, no sense of real fear. I would not recommend this.
