Le mépris
(1963)

A film about about a problematic marriage and the filming of a new version of ¨The Odyssey¨.
The picture deals essentially about the problems of a marriage and the rival visions of how to tell the vintage history ¨The Odyssey¨. Resulting to be an amusing look at the film business , featuring a Hollywood actor: Jack Palance, Fritz Lang playing himself, Godard as his assistant and Bardot is pleasant scenary . Camille (Brigitte Bardot) has beautiful feet that her husband Paul Javal (Michel Piccoli) finds really gorgeous. She also has attractive knees that he loves and a wonderful bust anf buttom that he adores, and tells her so when he sees her in the mirror. Not satisfied with the script for his new movie, producer Jeremy Prokosch (Jack Palance) hires screenwriter Paul Javal to write a new one. Javal seems oblivious to Prokosch's obvious interest in his pretty wife Camille. Later on, the French writer's marriage deteriorates while working on Fritz Lang's version of "The Odyssey", as his wife accuses him of using her to court favor with the film's brash American producer. Bardot at her bold, bare and brazen best! Reveling in Rome, cavorting in Capri...jolting even the jaded international jet-set in her pursuit of love! . More Bold! More Brazen! And Much, Much More Bardot!. Not Since "And God Created Woman" So Much Bardot...so much of the magic, the mystery, the animal magnetism that has made her the screen's most exciting woman!. Bardot is the body beautiful...she knows it...and she shows it!

The film is passable and acceptable enough, but it turns out to be somewhat boring and feels overlong, due to slowness in which it develops, with hardly any incidents worth mentioning, usually dealing with the discussions of a married couple while shooting a film, contending dialogues that make no sense, are innocuous and lack interest. Belonging to Jean-Luc Godard's most interesting period, this is an adaptation of a novel by Alberto Moravia, ¨A ghost at noon¨ about the degradation of a group of people who look at each other and judge each other and who in turn are looked at and judged by the cinema. For the first time in Godard's work, the theme of the relationship between cinema and life appears, something that will be a constant in his filmography throughout his life. The plot revolves around the professional problems of a writer that mix with the growing contempt that his wife feels for him. Godard makes a study of the lack of communication with characters doomed to failure. It deploys a great cast where together with the young Brigitte Bardot who shines in her continuous nude scenes constituting a major scandal for the time, the indefatigable Michel Piccoli appearing as her scorned husband who is full of doubts about the film script, the ambitious producer played in his usual style by the always peculiar Jack Palance, a beautiful Giorgia Moll as the producer's assistant and translator, as well as the classic Hollywood director Fritz Lang playing himself while shooting an arduous and complicated film about Homer's Odyssey.

In ¨Le Mépris¨ or ¨Contempt¨ highlights the colorful and sunny cinematography in Cinemscope of Raoul Coutard, considered to be the main cameraman of New Vague, shot in several Italian coastal locations such as: Isle of Capri, Naples, Campania, Rome, Lazio, Italy, Casa Malaparte, Isle of Capri, Naples, Campania, (villa at the sea, exteriors and interiors) and other interior scenarios in Cinecittà Studios, Cinecittà, Rome, Lazio, Italy . As welll as a charming , sensitive soundtrack by Georges Delerue (and incredited Piero Piccioni) composed in music classic style . The motion picture was professionally directed by Jean-Luc Godard; however, the slow-paced, absurd situations and erratic scenes leaves you a little disconcerting . Jean-Luc Godard's fist feature was À bout de souffle or Breathless (1960) that catapulted him to the vanguard of French directors. This low-budgeted film established Jean-Luc Godard Brechtian's experimental style. À bout de souffle(1960) was filmed in real locations in Paris by cameraman Raoul Coutard , Godard usual and Jean Paul Belmondo film debut. Despite news to the contrary, Jean-Luc Godard did not shoot the film without a storyline; however, he did not have a finished script at the beginning, instead writing scenes in the morning and filming them that day. Godard created various masterpieces of the Nouvelle vague, such as ¨A Bout De Suffle¨ , ¨Pierrot Le Fou¨ , ¨La Chinoise ¨ , Le mépris¨, and ¨Lemmy Caution or Alphaville¨ that won the Golden Bear award of the 15th Berlin International Film Festival in 1965. Le mépris(1963) rating: 5.5/10, it is recommended for New Wave enthusiasts and Brigitte Bardot fans.

Accident Man
(2018)

Violent and gripping story about a hired killer, including impressive fights and some humor.
It's an attractive action film with an interesting mingle of suspense, brutal martial arts, bloody combats and shootouts . Mike Fallon (Scott Adkins) is an exceptional hitman who makes all his jobs look like accidents. He is a stone cold killer whose methodical hits baffle the police and delight his clients. He is the best at what he does. He goes into a rage when he finds out that his former girlfriend has been murdered, and it seems that the killers are members of his execution team (Ray Stevenson, Michael Jai White, Ray Park, Ross O'Hennessy and Amy Johnston) . Fallon is forced to rip apart the life he knew in order to hold those accountable and avenge the one person who actually meant something to him. This awakens in Fallon an insatiable thirst for revenge. Along the way, he'll confront heinous murderers , and starring Fallon/Scott Adkins being forced into action and steadily butchering his relentless enemies , while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody conclusion. Taking Them One Mishap at a Time !. Accidents can Happen, he can Guarantee It !. Based on the Hit Comic Book Series !. Six Assassins. One Killer.. Violence first. Questions later. Doing whatever it takes to chase down individuals for vengeance !

A solid medium budget action with some elements of comedy. Violent tale with full of noisy action and fights in a comic-book style. Scott Adkins plays this "Accident Man" in his own style, who will have to face all his fellow assassins, each one more deadly than the other, if he wants to find the real culprit of the death of the only person who has ever really mattered to him. Adkins is pretty good , proving his exceptional fight skills as a tough hitman, who makes his hits look like accidents or suicide, but he seekd vendetta when a loved one is dragged into the London underworld and murdered by his own crew . Adkins/Fallon get to work doing what he does best: cracking skulls and breaking bones, as he chases down the various assassins who have been duped.

Renowned British action director Jesse V Jackson directs this fast-paced and ultra-violent action thriller that is full of likeable dialogue in Guy Ritchie style, brutal fights, shootings and explosions, spectacular slow motion and a very wild humor that adapts the graphic novel of the same name by Pat Mills and Tony Skinner.

Alongside Atkins, the gang of assassins are played by the recently deceased Ray Stevenson, Michael Jai White, Ray Park, Ross O'Hennessy and the fight stunt Amy Johnston. This feature film also features sympathetic performances by Ashley Green as the lover of the protagonist's ex-girlfriend, David Paymer, as the cunning accountant of the criminal group, Nick Moran as corrupt entrepreneur, and Leon Finnan as a young Mike Fallon, among others.

The motion picture was well directed Jesse V. Johnson who made with Scott Adkins 8 films. He's a craftsman, a writer and director , expert on action and thriller movies , such as: Savage Dog (2017), accident man (2018), Avengement (2019),Triple Threat (2019), The Mercenary (2019), Hell Hath No Fury (2021), Debt Collectors 2 (2020), White Elephant (2022), in Boudica (2023), One Ranger (2023), among others. Rating: 6.5/10. The flick will like to action genre enthusiasts and Scott Adkins fans.

Followed by an inferior sequel: ¨Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday¨ (original title) by Directors: George Kirby, Harry Kirby with Scott Adkins, Ray Stevenson, Perry Benson, Sarah Chang, George Fouracres . The Accident Man is back and this time he must beat the top assassins in the world to protect the ungrateful son of a mafia boss, save the life of his only friend and rekindle his relationship with his maniacal father figure.

Battle Beyond the Stars
(1980)

Intergalactic Murakami/Corman creation in which a planet must be defended against alien raspscallions.
A colourful, thrilling and cheeky science-fiction remake of ¨The Magnificent Seven¨, dealing with the peaceful planet Akir, colonized by quiet inhabitants, is suddenly threatened by Sador (John Saxon) of the Malmori, a megalomaniac eager to conquer the universe, for which he possesses the most deadly and sophisticated weapon in all of outer space: the star converter, capable of destroying any planet. The council of wise Akirians trusts Shad (Richard Thomas, once John-Boy in The Waltons), a peaceful young man, to seek help in hyperspace aboard his ship Nell and recruit intergalactic soldiers to confront the evil Sador. To do so, Shad heads to the special space station of Dr. Hephestus (Sam Jaffe) and his androids, but the doctor insists on keeping Shad in his laboratory so that he can impregnate his daughter Nanelis (Darlanne Fluegel) and become a grandfather. The bold youth escapes on a last ditch mission that begins at the edge of the universe, that's why he recruits a motley group of mercenaries and warriors (Robert Vaughn, George Peppard, Sybil Danning, Darlanne Fluegel, Morgan Woodward) . They form a valiant team, a brave avenging septet. Ruthless invaders, defenseless planet and a daring band of space adventurers fighting to save it !. The ultimate space war - survival or extinction !. A battle beyond time ... beyond space !. Rebels. Outlaws. Mercenaries. Seven magnificent warriors join to fight the... Battle Beyond the Stars !.

Jimmy T. Murakami's first feature film as director after co-directing ¨Humanoids from the Abyss¨ with Barbara Peters, he was an expert on shorts and animated films, and his craftsmanship is demonstrated in this ¨Battle Beyond the Stars¨. Agreeable script and sympathetic characters get together in this space opera written by prestigious John Sayles who authored the screenplay and co-authored the story on which it was based. The enjoyable storyline rips off all sorts of nice genre items with shameless abandon , including a feisty-talking computer, the ordinary spaceship battles, and the best thing being the plot of ¨ John Sturges' The Magnificent Seven¨, there's even the black-clad Robert Vaughn, who reprises his twitchy mercenary, exuding the awful solitude of deep space just looking for a way to go out in style. This is also a peculiar galactic version of the Akira Kurosawa classic ¨The Seven Samurai¨ of which John Sturges would make a good version transposed to the American West. In fact, in Battle Beyond the Stars, there also appear a group of misfits, offbeat heroes, but brave mercenaries, of the most varied kind, among which can be included: an intergalactic Cowboy, nicely played by George Peppard, the exuberant Saint-Exmin attractively performed by Russs Meyer-ish Valkyric Sybil Danning; but here heroine co-starring Darlanne Fluegel is rather put in in the shade por the majestic Danning; adding a lizard man willing to avenge his species from the extinction caused by Sadir; the Kelvin brothers, thermal entities that communicate by degrees of heat; Nestor, an expert in electromagnetic fields, and a special mention for Robert Vaughn -who plays a similar role to the one he played in Sturges' film - who performs Gelt, a mercenary friend of the children, whom everyone wants to annihilate and who is looking for a planet where no one knows him.

Special effects are well up to the new par established by such blockbusters as 'Star Wars', and there are some ingenious touches like the severed arm that carries on a life of its own. The work of James Cameron (Terminator, Aliens: The Return, Titanic, Abyss) stands out in the artistic direction and production design - before starting his career as a director. Cameron himself designed and built the models of the spaceships. Along with a terrific musical score plenty of magic and fantasy by the notorious and deceased composer James Horner. The motion picture was professionally directed by Jimmy T. Murakami . He was born on June 5, 1933 in San Jose, California, USA as Teruaki Murakami and died in Dublín , 2014 . He is known for his work on Breath (1967), Humanoids from the Deep (1980) , Heavy Metal (1981) , The Christmas Story Keepers (1998) , The Easter Story Keepers (1998) and Kate Bush: King of the Mountain (2005) . And When the wind blows (1986) that was his greatest hit along with this Sci-Fi movie titled Battle beyond the stars (1980) produced by Roger Corman. Rating : 6/10. This attractive flick considered to be a 'Cult Movie' that will appeal to Sci-Fi enthusiasts.

Enduring Love
(2004)

An uneven but acceptable movie about an obsessed man who stalks a writer resulting in fateful consequences.
The plot is plain and simple, that's why we have already seen in other better films, dealing with a famous writer who has his life turned upside down after a obsessed man chases him. On a perfect summer's day , Joe (Daniel Craig) and his girlfriend Claire (Samantha Morton) escape for a romantic picnic in the countryside near Oxford and they're sitting in a field . A marriage proposal is on the tip Joe pauses before he surprises Claire by producing a bottle of champagne in his hand. The moment appears portentous, but before Joe can pop the cork and say whatever is on his mind, a huge red hot-air balloon drifts onto the field. A young boy cowers in the basket of the balloon which is being dragged along the ground quickly while an older man, his grandfather, trails behind, pulling on one of the ropes and urging the frightened boy to jump out. Joe races to assist, and he is joined by several other men coming from all directions. Later on, two strangers (Daniel Craig-Rhys Ifans) become connected by a tragedy, yet one dangerously feels that the connection goes much deeper than the other is willing to admit. Your life is not secure ! . An extraordinary event brought them together !. A deadly obsession will tear them apart !. Unexpected. Unpredictable. Uncontrollable. A deadly obsession takes hold !. Some people never let go ! .What you see, he sees ! . What you love, he wants !. First he takes your privacy ! . Then he takes your life !.

A moving, enticing film with drama, thrills , violence , intrigue, a thunderous love story and suspenseful . The opening scene of this smart thriller acts like a rusty knife through young skin. The storyline deals with the calamity of a hot air balloon leaving Joe with two unwanted gifts : a persistent , unhinged stalker and escalating feelings of paranoia and self-doubt. On a level , this is a simple yet attractive tale of a desperate stalker and his victim, the latter aspect climaxes a little weakly. Yet the movie is more appealing when cataloguing the disintegration of Joe's charmed life along with his girlfriend Claire/Samantha Morton. Stars Daniel Craig who's fine as a successful writer who becomes the unhealthy focus of a down-on-his-luck man nicely performed by Rhys Ifans . The latter is a delusional stalker exaggeratedly played by Rhys Ifans that merely requires him to reprise in cruder form a deranged role. As he turns agressive and nasty , to the point who he does the psycho thing with aplomb but overacting , while Daniel Craig keeps the familiar storyline from becoming tedious . Set in a cosy corner of middle class North London, this pitches emotion against reason , evolution against love, family against loneliness. The fine cast makes this violent at times and familiar tale seems better than it is . Here stands out an excellent support cast with notorious secondaries , such as : Bill Nighy as the best mate , Susan Lynch as his wife, Ben Whishaw as a student, Andrew Lincoln, Helen McCrory, Corin Redgrave , among others . Resulting in a routine film at times, containing facile criminal psychology , histerical interpretations , frenetic editing , colorful cinematography by cameraman Haris Zambarloukos and exciting soundtrack composed by Jeremy Sams; however , being entertaining enough .

This thriller movie was professionally directed by Roger Michell, it is decently crafted and the script from the novel by Ian McEwan is interesting, again Penhall as one of British talents, for both film and theatre. Roger Michell's movies are known for the rich visual style, with dazzling cinematography and beautiful production designs . He directed Peter O'Toole in an Oscar-nominated performance in Venus (2006). He was set to direct Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) but had to withdraw because of a heart attack . Roger is a craftsman with with an uneven career, including some hits and flops. He's a director, producer and writer, known for Tea with dames, The duke , Blackbird, Titanic Town, Le Week-End, Venus (2006), Morning Glory (2010), Hyde Park on Hudson (2013), My Cousin Rachel (2017) , and his big hit was Notting Hill (1999). Enduring Love (2004) rating: 6/10. The film with appeal to Daniel Craig fans,

Bakemono no ko
(2015)

Fascinating and marvellous anime with spectacular scenarios and overflowing fantasy.
Stars a boy called Ren, a lonely boy living in Tokyo who has just lost his mother, escapes into the streets of Shibuya, and suddenly crosses the border between the human world and the beast realm, a place inhabited by talking animals. Trapped there, Ren meets Kumatetsu, who renames him Kyuta. Despite his initial reluctance, Kumatetsu takes him in and makes him his disciple as he grows up, teaching him the arts of fighting. The friendship that is forged between them will lead them both on a path of personal discovery and will forever change their lives.

The beauty of the settings, the characters, wonderful drawings and the fantasy elements leave no doubt as to why director Horoda has been labeled as the new Hayao Miyazaki. This wonderful film is plenty of fantasy , adventures, drama, spectacular combats and attractive message . The picture is narrated with sensibility and sense of wonder and being quite entertaining.

With an impressive quality of colors and animation, this is one of the best anime of 2015. A fantastic journey to a parallel world adding a mysterious musical score accompanying splendidly the moving action. Mamoru Hosada (Wolf Children) directs this fable that connects the most earthly part of nature with the most mystical part. It is inevitable to compare the style of the film with that of Hayao Miyazaki and his Ghibli studio, of which Hosada confesses to having always admired it.

The film has all the necessary elements to be a success among anime fans. It is a story of great fantasy involving a brave, courageous young who enters a weird world full of colorful settings and strange creatures, clearly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki. One of the highest-grossing films in Japan in 2015, with more than four million viewers and the highest-grossing film by Mamoru Hosada . His early work included episodes of the children's series "Digimon" and one of the films of the manga "One Piece." His first big hit was: ¨The girl who leapt through time¨. This film was an important step in his notable career in anime. Initially, the anime was released in only a few Japanese theaters, but word of mouth boosted the series, eventually gaining international fame. Dealing with a girl who discovers her ability to jump through time, resulting in dire consequences. Hosoda, considered the new Hayao Miyazaki by anime specialists, is responsible for notorious Japanese animation films. In fact, he usually has the artistic direction of Studio Ghibli veteran Youi Takeshige (Spirited Away). Hosoda is free to combine in his films to perfection 2D environments with 3D animation, resulting in a dazzling visual feast. He has made important anime such as: "Summer Wars" (2009) and "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" (2006), both of them winners of the Sitges Festival and the Japanese Academy awards for best animation film. In 2012 made another famous film ¨Wolf Children¨ : After her werewolf lover unexpectedly dies in an accident while hunting for food for their children, a young woman must find ways to raise the werewolf son and daughter that she had with him while keeping their trait hidden from society. Perhaps his best-known film was "Summer Wars", which tells the story of a young genius who travels to a town pretending to be a girl's boyfriend, but the situation becomes complicated when a mysterious artificial intelligence begins to take control of a virtual world known as Oz, a mix of online game and social network. His two last animes were ¨Mirai¨ (2018): a young boy encounters a magical garden which enables him to travel through time and meet his relatives from different eras, with guidance by his younger sister from the future and Belle (2021): a shy high school student living in a rural village, for years, she has only been a shadow of herself. But when she enters "U", a massive virtual world, she escapes into her online persona as Belle, a globally-beloved singer.

Ninette
(2005)

Enjoyable, slight, elegant and hilarious adaptation, but it does get very long and heavy.
Ninette (2005) by Jose Luis Garci boasts a good cast , such as: Elsa Pataky , Carlos Hipolito , Enrique Villen, Fernando Delgado , among others. Entertaining and amusing film with great players , sympathetic situations , and smart mood . Set in the Fifities, this is an attractive and charming comedy in which a dowdy Spaniard (Carlos Hipólito) , goes to Paris on holiday, hoping to meet a pretty French girlfriend . A friend of his who lives there sets him up to stay with a Spanish family. Armando (Enrique Villén) provides him accomodation at a boarding house inhabited by two Spanish Republicans . His wishes may come true after meeting Ninette (Elsa pataky), his landlord's sensual and possessive young daughter. Their parents (Fernando Delgado, Beatriz Carvajal) are communists and atheists self-exiled in France after the Spanish Civil war. Andres then falls for the young haunting and possessive daughter of both.

A passable and polite comedy with subtle laughs and acceptable direction and in which the splendid actors provide nice acting . It isn't quickly filmed , but slowly shot , and excessively talkie ; nevertheless , containing a witty and sparkling dialogue at times. However, this Jose Luis Garci film is quite uneven, in reality it is a play filmed in interior settings without exteriors that would have helped a little to enhance the story. The movie feels overlong, heavy and somewhat boring with half an hour less in its duration the film would have been much better. The picture is partially saved thanks to the interpretation that is displayed by a notable main and support cast of the best Spanish actors. The two main ones: Elsa Pataky and Carlos Hipólito give decent interpretations, however due to the continuous, empty and uninteresting dialogue, their performances end up being scattered. There are some nice jokes in the film and the cast playing eccentric characters make cosy fit . An agreeable , and attractive and charming film, standing out Carlos Hipólito who delivers an adequate performance as the single man who decides to trip Paris with unexpected consequences, as well as Elsa Pataki giving a sensual acting as the young girl who falls for him . She is really wonderful and imitating the French accent . Support cast is frankly awesome , such as Fernando Delgado and Beatriz Carvajal as the old and odd couple of Republican exiles .Furthermore, Illustrious supporting characters in brief appearances, such as: Mar Regueras, Miguel Rellán, Carlos Iglesias, Eduardo Gómez, Jorge Roelas and María Elena Flores . Most part takes place indoors , at the French apartment , and shot at studios, without even showing some brief exterior shots of the magical city of Paris. Besides, a few roles and some incidents seem artificial , and implausible, as when Andres arrived in the apartment and , quickly , he falls for Ninette , kiss each other and go to room . However , the developing of the film is finely paced and as a result , it is amusing , fun and funny . Being adapted from a play by the popular writer Miguel Mihura , a prestigious author whose books and stories have been very rendered such as Melocoton en almibar , Solo para hombres, Maribel y extraña familia , Puente para la paz , Bigote para dos , La hija del penal , Castillo naipes , among others .

The motion picture was unevenly directed by José Luís Garci. He is considered to be one of the best actors/directors of the Spanish cinema . Garci directs good and successful movies as his first trilogy formed by Asignatura pendiente, Asignatura aprobada and Las Verdes Praderas. José Luis Garci is without a doubt one of the most influential film personalities in the history of film in Spain and perhaps the best known writer/filmmaker in the country . Garci won one Academy Award for ¨Volver a Empezar¨ or "Starting Over". Although Garci was not the first Spanish director to win that award . Luis Buñuel had won the prize in the same category "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" , but this film was really a French entry . After his Oscar win in 1983 for Best Foreign Language Film with Volver a Empezar (1982) , he received three further nominations in that category with Sesión Continua (1984), Asignatura Aprobada (1987) and El Abuelo or The Grandfather (1998 ), making him the most-nominated Spanish director in that category . He has left a distinguished talent in his successful movies throughout the years , as writing as shooting , such as : La Cabina (1972) , Las Verdes Praderas (1979), Sesión Continua , and his big hit: Volver a Empezar (1982), And Special mention for his 'Film Noir' trilogy The Crack I, The Crack II with the great Alfredo Landa and El Crack cero with Carlos Santos. 'Ninette' rating 5/10.

Ninette by Miguel Mihura has been adapted several times , such as 1984 TV series by Gustavo Perez Puig with Victoria Vera , Juanjo Menendez , Ismael Merlo . And the notorious and much better adaptation: ¨Ninette y un señor de Murcia¨ 2005 by Fernando Fernán Gómez with Fernán Gómez, Rosanda Monteros, Rafael L Somoza, Aurora Redondo, Claudia Gravy, Alfonso Del Real.

True Crime
(1999)

Fine Eastwood movie dealing with a human interest story on the upcoming final few hours of a convicted killer on Death Row.
Steve Everett (Clint Eastwood) is an Oakland Tribune journalist with a passion for women and alcohol, after his reporter colleague , Michelle Ziegler (Mary McCormack), would die at a car accident the night before, he is given the coverage of the upcoming execution of murderer Frank Louis Beachum (Isaiah Washington). Steve's boss (James Woods), and husband to Steve's current affair, wants him dead and gone as soon as possible. Trouble, Steve's an obstinate investigative reporter by trade, tradition and temperament and, when he starts researching the case , begins to suspect the remorseless Beechum may be innocent. Moreover, his life is such a mess that he hardly has time to meet Beechum for a last exclusive interview, let alone to search for clues and win a stay of execution. Along the way, Everett becomes convinced that Beachum is innocent . An innocent man has only 12 hours to live...! Can an over-the-hill journalist uncover the evidence that can prove a death row inmate's innocence just hours before his execution?

Eastwood , who directs and stars, does a good job developing his job as Steve Everett, a flawed reporter who has just boozed and womanized his way out of the top his profession. Interesting, tense and intriguing plot that erodes into a twisted race against time to save the innocent man. Though the closing quarter of an hour is inevitably flawed by the kind of contrivance and repeated in numerous race-against-time stories, for the most part this is another typically intelligent, thrilling Eastwood movie , a film that's unusually and movingly perceptibe about human emotions. Though a couple of of plot developments are clumsily written , as a character study it's acted, scripted and shot with sensitivity , wit and insigh. Clint shows his performance chops before the story deflates . However, his fans will certainly enjoy this one.

We are watching a decent film in which its message shows us a broody story of investigation, discovery, salvation, redemption, suffering , memories and feelings ; a right allegation and relentless denounce against the Death Row. Here the maestro Clint Eastwood gives us a film-making lesson from the simplicity of an engaging and well-paced screenplay . The performance of Eastwood as stubborn journalist is awesome , he does not disappoint, his presence at the scene is extraordinary. The support cast is also magnificent with many famiiliar faces, in fact a main fun and entertainment of the film, is discovering that secondary characters - some of them unknown at the time - appear here and there, among which the following can be mentioned: Isaiah Washington LisaGay Hamilton, Denis Leary, Bernard Hill, Diane Venora, Michael McKean, Michael Jeter, Graham Beckel, Frances Fisher (at the time married to Clint Eastwood), Luci Liu, William Windom, Christine Ebersole, Anthony Zerbe, Frances Lee McCain, John Finn, Laila Robins, Mary McCormack and special mention for James Woods as his demanding boss . This film along with the filmed in the 2000s as ¨Invictus ¨ , " Changeling" , ¨ Million dollars baby ¨ ¨Mystic river ¨ make that the dramatic force of this great director turns outs to be breathtaking and really attractive . True Crime rating: 6.5/10.

Eddie Macon's Run
(1983)

A routine chase thriller in which an innocent young man is relentlessly pursued by a tireless cop.
Eddie Macon (John Schneider) will do anything for and to be with his wife and young son, Chris and Bobby. It is the reason for Bobby moved from Florida to Texas, but there happens one injustice after another which lands Eddie behind bars at Huntsville and ultimately on a twenty year sentence, being injustly jailed in Texas . The young man , harshly sentenced for a few minor infractions, gets away from a prison in Huntsville, Texas and flees to Laredo, where he hopes to cross into Mexico for a reunion with his wife (Leah Ayres) and small son. Eddie is mercilessly followed by a two-fisted cop (Kirk Douglas) who is determined to catch the fugitive at whatever cost. Eddie Macon is running from a nightmare... running to a dream... and running for his life !.

A run-of-the-mill chase film, including thrills, intrigue, fights, car pursuits and other usual ingredients in the genre. Exciting , suspenseful and thrilling film that results to follow a similar plot to the 60s TV series that starred David Janssen, The Fugitive, (which had a successful film adaptation by Andrew Davis starring Harrison Ford) with the same basic premise : A young wrongly convicted for a crime he didn't commit, escapes custody and plans an escape to run to Mexico must stay ahead of the police, while a tough officer of the law are hot on his trail, and even well-meaning civilians can cause his ruin. Viewers can certainly believe in his innocence and starring John Schneider displays outstandingly good character, frequently putting himself at risk to help another person in need. The main fun and entertainment of the film, in addition to the breathtaking chases, is discovering that secondary characters - many of them unknown at the time - appear here and there, among which the following can be mentioned: Lee Purcell, Tom Noonan, Mark Margolis, Dann Florek, J. T. Walsh J. C. Quinn, Jay O. Sanders, Todd Allen and John Goodman's film debut.

The motion picuture was averagely but professionally directed by Jeff Kanew. His film debut was Black Rodeo (1972) and following: "Natural enemies", "Troop Beverly Hills" , "V. I. Warshawski" , "Adam and Eve", "Babij Jar" . His biggest hits were ¨The revenge of the Nerds¨, "Gotcha!¨ and especially ¨Tough Guys¨(1989) a vehicle of the film myths as Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. In fact Jeff Kanew was a good friend of Kirk Douglas, with whom he actually worked on three films: ¨Tough Guys¨, ¨Kirk Douglas: Before I Forget¨ and ¨Eddie Macon's Run¨(1983) . Rating: 5.5/10. A mediocre film but acceptable and passable enough. Especially recommended for fans of the sacred monster of cinema, Kirk Douglas.

Bobby Deerfield
(1977)

A Pacino shines as a cold-blooded Grand Prix driver who eventually learns the meaning of life when he falls in love.
Bobby Deerfield (Al Pacino), a tough Formula 1 driver, quits racing after his teammate dies in a car crash. Later on, Bobby meets a critically ill woman called Lillian (Marthe Keller) at a medical facility, he then falls for her and their relationship takes an unexpected turn when he learns why she's there.. Who is Bobby Deerfield? No one really knew !. Not the crowds who cheered him !. Not the women who made love to him !. Not the family who reached out to him. No one until now. No one until her. Al Pacino is Bobby Deerfield !. He never gave a damn !. Until her. He had to meet her - to find himself!

This Sydney Pollack film proves to be a stirring, enjoyable experience , immaculately photographed and splendidly acted. A classic example of a Hollywood filmmaker being struck down by a moving art attack as soon as he sets foot in Europe. Our great starring is terrific, here Pacino is a cripplingly introverted racing driver who falls in love with a dying heiress and he finally learns the meaning of life . And his partenaire, the french Marthe Keller, is frankly marvellous, as the sympathetic lover with an uncertain fate, her interpretation will not be far behind that of the already established Al Pacino, post-The Godfather. Although Pollack at times seems to be struggling to avoid the obvious pitfalls, he finally wallops in some of them, making the roles and settings into a something very like a prolonged contemplation of a fateful love story. The first half is nicely paced and competently performed, but greatness rather drifts away from the movie in the second half , somewhat helped by the slow-moving scenes and long runtime . The film is pretty well, but even with spectacular car races , soap opera stalls. Intelligently scripted by Alvin Sargent , based on a novel titled "Heaven Has No Favorites" written by the prestigious and successful writer Erich Maria Remarque. And beautifully filmed by cameraman Henri Decae on location in ravishing outdoors from Gadancourt, Val-d'Oise, Tower Eiffel, Paris, Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France, and Lake Como, Florence, Italy. As well as a splendid footage from European circuits, including Formula 1 races and car crashes: car racing scenes from Circuit de Magny-Cours, Nevers, Nièvre, France and El Jarama, Madrid, Spain. Special mention for the sensitive, rousing musical score by the great composer Dave Grusin.

The film was unevenly but acceptably directed by Sydney Pollack. His biggest success was Out of Africa (1985), this movie earned eleven Academy Award nominations in all and seven wins, including Pollack's two Oscars: one for Best Direction and one for Best Picture. Great Sydney Pollack was an Academy Award-winning director, producer, actor, writer and public figure, who directed and produced over 40 films. Pollack showed his best as a comedy director and actor in Tootsie (1982), where he brought feminist issues to public awareness using his remarkable wit and wisdom, and created a highly entertaining film, which was nominated for ten Academy Awards. This good professional was an excellent actor and director , making the following important movies : "The Property is condemned" , "The Slender Thread" , "The Scalphunters" , "They Shoot Horses , Don't They ?" , "Jeremiah Johnson" , "The Way we Were" , "Yazuka" , "3 days of Condor" , "Absence of Malice" , "Tootsie" , "Out of Africa" , "Havana" , "The Firm", "Sabrina" , "Random Hearts", and several others . Rating "Bobby Deerfield" (1977): 6/10. The picture will appeal to Al Pacino fans nd followers of Pollack's notorious film career .

Lost Horizon
(1937)

Above average classic film about a group of Europeans crash in the mountains, where they are rescued and taken to the mysterious Shangri-La.
Now almost utterly restored to its original running time, this is Frank Capra's completely attractive film version of the popular James Hilton novel. While escaping war-torn China, a group (Ronald Colman, Edward Everett Horton, John Howard, Thomas Mitchell, Isabel Jewell) of Europeans crash in the Himalayas, Valley of the Blue Moon, Shangri-La, where they are rescued and taken to the mysterious location. Hidden from the rest of the world, Shangri-La is a haven of peace and tranquility for world-weary diplomat Richard Conway (Ronald Colman). His ambitious brother, George (John Howard), sees it as a prison from which he must escape, even if it means risking his life and bringing destruction to the ancient culture of Shangri-La. Come to a new world of music, a new world of adventure, and a new world of love!.Come to Shangri La!. At Last - A Picture for Everyone!. The Romance of "Lost Horizon" is touched with a magic all its own!. The excitement of 'Lost Horizon' grips you from beginning to end!. Frank Capra's Mightiest Production !. At Last ! . . . The Masterpiece Of America's Foremost Film Genius Blazes To The Screen ! The adventure of 'Lost Horizon' is as spellbinding as it is unique!. The beauty of 'Lost Horizon' is the wonder of faraway Shangri-la!. Mightiest entertainment in all screen history! . The opportunity you've so eagerly awaited...of seeing with your own unbelieving eyes this supreme entertainment achievement of all time! Surpassing all conception of what the screen can accomplish in spine-chilling action...heart-pounding romance...sense-stunning spectacle...hair-raising thrills!

One of Capra's most famous and original movies, it is also considered a classic of adventure films and of lost paradises. Lost Horizon is based on the book of the same name by James Hilton, in which the myth of Shangri-La appears for the first time - based in turn on previous Buddhist myths - a lost place in the Himalayan mountain range where illness and old age do not exist and people live happily and in peace. Being recently restored, most of the missing film was badly degraded and useless, so the restorers used stills to fill in the missing minutes. Later, one minute of the missing footage was found and restored, resulting in some 24 minutes of stills supported by the soundtrack. The scene-setting is extremely well done, cinematography by Joseph Walker is frankly spectacular , as well as emotive and thrilling musical score from vintage composers: Dimitri Tiomkin and Max Steiner. The stars of "Lost Horizon" give the most spectacular performances of their careers: Ronald Colman is perfectly cast as the idealistic, pacifist Robert Conway, delivering another superb characterization that can be compared to that of his hero in The Prisoner of Zenda (1937); Jane Wyatt is quietly efficient as his girlfriend in Shangri-La; Thomas Mitchell is as genuine and solid as ever; H. B. Warner is very pleasant as the intelligent and almost immortal monk full of wisdom, Edward Everett Horton providing the usual comic relief; John Howard as the rebellious brother; Margo is fine as his mysterious girlfriend Mary; Isabel Jewell is quite effective; and Sam Jaffe is first-rate as the wise old Grand Lama; all of them in adequate supporting roles.

This engrossing motion picture was stunningly directed by Frank Capra. The film won the Oscar for best production design and best editing. Capra is deemed to be one of the best filmmakers in American cinema; always accompanied by his usual screenwriter and collaborator Robert Riskin, Frank directed seven Academy Award Best Picture nominees: Lady for a Day (1933), It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), Lost Horizon (1937), You Can't Take It with You (1938), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) and It's a Wonderful Life (1946). It Happened One Night and You Can't Take It with You both won Best Picture. Rating: 7.5/10. Better than average. Especially recommended to classic film enthusiasts.

¨Lost Horizon (1937) ¨ had an inferior musical remake that failed at the box office: Lost Horizon (1972) by Charle Jarrott with Peter Finch, Liv Ullman, Michael York, Olivia Hussey, Sally Kellerman, Charles Boyer, George Kennedy.

La tía de Carlos
(1982)

Average but funny last comedy by the great Paco Martínez Soria demonstrating his hilarious acting skills.
Shameless Carlos (Ricardo Merino) receives the news that a distant aunt has named him the sole heir to a large fortune. The comic actor Fermín Recuero (Paco Martínez Soria) receives the unusual proposal of impersonating the Brazilian multimillionaire, Ms. Lucía Castelo (Maria Lusa Ponte). It turns out that Ms. Lucía's presence is necessary for the wedding of her nephew Carlos, Fermín's friend, with the daughter (María Kosty) of Mr. Servando Becerra (Rafael Alonso) to get Carlos out of a tight spot . The wealthy woman, has announced her arrival from Brazil and Carlos's wedding with Don Servando's daughter depends on Fermín. Seeing that the woman does not appear, the emergency solution of using the actor as her substitute is adopted. And this replacement aunt is none other than Fermin, who is dressed and made up appropriately. What everyone ignores is that Carlos's real aunt arrived on the peninsula some time ago, and does not want to reveal her presence until she is convinced that her nephew is worthy of being his heir. As the lady delays her trip, and when he arrives he does so incognito, and while the actor disguising himself as a millionaire Brazilian aunt, then Fermín is besieged by several suitors (Rafael Alonso, Luis Barbero, Angel Terrón).

One of the various cinematic recreations of the famous play "La Tia de Carlos", relevant in the history of Spanish cinema because it marked the film farewell of the popular comedy actor Paco Martinez Soria. An entertaining fim containing crazy events , laughs , amusement , confusion, messes and absurd situations . It takes a simple concept, a sympathetic stage actor executing petty tricks while disguising as a woman, as he poses as a a wealthy Brazilian. It benefits from the efficient acting by Paco Martínez Soria who's the complete show as Fermín who agrees to pose as a woman millionaire to deceive all around. He started playing supporting roles in many films until 1944 when he returned to theatre as an actor and entrepreneur. His name achieved some fame between 1942 and 1944, when he was named director and first actor in the theatre company of Teatro de la Zarzuela. He again returned to cinema in 1950s. In 1965 he was very successful with the film La ciudad no es para mí (The city is not for me) directed by Pedro Lazaga. From that moment on, his screen character as an affectionate country bumpkin, headstrong old man did not cease to appear in films until his death, along with his friend filmmaker Pedro Lazaga who directed him in most of his films . In addition , the support cast is frankly excellent , filled with familiar faces and notorious Spanish secondaries , such as : Ricardo Merino, Rafael Alonso, Luis Barbero, Rafael Hernández, María Luisa Ponte, María Luisa Bernal, María Kosty, Ángel Terrón, Luis Varela, Mary Paz Pondal, Carmen Lozano, Luis Lorenzo, among others.

The original work "Charley's Aunt" by writer Brandon Thomas has been adapted to film on several occasions, such as: ¨Charles's Aunt¨ (1947) by Leopoldo Torres with Pedro Quartucci and ¨Charles's Aunt in a Miniskirt¨ (1967) by Augusto Fenollar, Ignacio F. Iquino with Cassen, Silvia Tortosa, Adrián Ortega, Gustavo Re. As well as in: ¨Charley's Aunt¨ (1925) by Scott Sidney with Syd Chaplin and ¨Charley's Aunt¨ (1941) by Archie Mayo with Jack Benny, Kay Francis, Anne Baxter.

The motion picture was mediocrely directed by Luis Maria Delgado . He was son of filmmaker Fernando Delgado who directed ¨Currito De La Cruz¨ . Luis Delgado's film debut was ¨La Estrella Del Rey¨, though previously directed with Henri Decoin ¨El Deseo y el Amor¨, with Dulio Coletti ¨Los Italianos Estan Locos¨ and with Fernando Fernán Gómez co-directed ¨Manicomio¨. Luis directed various kiddies films such as ¨Secuestro En La Ciudad¨, ¨Aventuras En Las Islas Cies¨, ¨Hamelin¨ a musical starred Miguel Rios , ¨Chispita y Sus Gorilas¨ and ¨Loca Por el Circo¨ with Ana Belén . Luis Delgado made multitude of comedies , most of them written by playwright Juán José Alonso Millán , and mostly vehicles for known Farceurs or comedians as ¨Tip and Coll¨ in ¨Garbanza Negra Que En Paz Descanse¨ , Alfredo Landa in ¨Onofre¨ , ¨Guapo Heredero Busca Esposa¨ , ¨Cuando Cuerno Suena¨, ¨Alcalde Y Politica¨ , ¨Profesor Eroticus¨ , ¨Obsesiones De Armando¨, Paco Martínez Soria in ¨La Tia de Carlos¨.

Certainly Luis María Delgado's specialty was mainly comedies, such as: Las Señoritas de uniforme, Pepito Piscinas, Monica Stop , Mirame con ojos pornograficos , Cuando Almanzor perdió su tambor , Loca por el circo , La tia de Carlos .But he also directed other genres as adventures : Adventures en las islas Cies, Flautista de Hamelin , and even a gay musical : ¨Diferente¨, considered to be the best of his prolific work. And also produced various films for Jose Luis Garci as Tiovivo 1950, You are the one , El Abuelo , Historia de un beso. La tía de Carlos(1982) rating: 5/10.

Memorîzu
(1995)

A science fiction anthology in three episodes, created by master Katsuhiro Otomo.
This is a great production in the history of animation. Memories, created by anime master Katsuhiro Otomo, along with Tensai Okamura and Tensai Okamura, is part of a series of short stories published as manga in Japan in 1990. Memories undertakes to adopt a resolutely adult tone in the mix of themes it creates. By adapting Kanojo no Omoide, his own manga, Otomo entrusts the direction of two of the three segments to Koji Morimoto and Tensai Okamura, before taking charge of the third himself as a conclusion. Poetic, absurd and pessimistic in quick succession, this is a marvel to put in everyone's hands. The anthology even goes so far as to begin with his masterpiece.. Each story is told in a different style. In the future, present or imaginary world, Memories reveal themselves, like roses' petals opening !.

The first, ¨Magnetic Rose¨directed by Koji Morimoto, is based on a manga by Otomo, in which two astronauts, following a distress signal, are drawn into a fantasy world created by the memory of a female opera singer. This is the best segment dealing with the tribulations and misadventures of four space travelers are drawn into an abandoned spaceship that contains a world created by one woman's memories. The least accessible project of the lot, Magnetic Rose is nonetheless an authentic visual spectacle coupled with a moving questioning of the notion of memory. An inevitable corollary of his genius, it is not easy to speak concretely about a work that will only reveal its thematic intentions in its last quarter of an hour, while multiplying the revelations necessary for its understanding. However, what will ultimately be transformed into a sensory experience enjoys in absolute terms a simple starting postulate, whose diegetic bases are common to any science fiction film.

In the second, ¨Stink Bomb¨directed by Tensai Okamura, a young chemist accidentally transforms himself into an unstoppable biological weapon that heads straight for Tokyo. This is the only one of the trio of episodes that has some comical moments provided by the botched lab worker who unwittingly carries a disgusting, stinking, lethal virus that could cause world destruction. Tokyo.

And finally, ¨Cannon Fodder¨, directed by Otomo himself, describes a day in the life of a city whose only reason for being is to fire cannons at an unknown enemy. Set in an unknown and supposedly futuristic war, although its images partially resemble the First World War -in fact some images are based on photos of the French Maginot Line.- and in a drawing style similar to those made in his day by the French comic book master Jacques Tardi. Depicting the entire purpose of a war battalion : the firing of cannons at an unseen enemy.

All three segments were overseen by the Otomo genius. In 1982, Otomo made his anime debut, working as character designer for the animated film Harmagedon. The next year, Otomo began work on a manga which would become his most acclaimed and famous work: Akira. It took eight years to complete and would eventually culminate in 2000 pages of artwork. While the serialization of ¨Akira¨ was taking place, Otomo decided to animate it into a feature film, although the manga was yet to be finished. In 1988, the animated film Akira was released. Otomo became the fourth manga artist ever inducted into the American Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2012, and was awarded the Purple Medal of Honor from the Japanese government in 2013.

The Cell
(2000)

Creepy and disturbing film with with dazzling visual effects and plenty of dreamy frames.
Child psychologist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) is an expert in an experimental treatment for coma patients: a virtual reality device created by Dr. Henry West (Dylan Baker) that allows her to enter the minds of individuals in a vegetative state and attempt to coax them into consciousness. Her current patient is a a boy named Edward (Colton James). Soon after, a F. B. I. Agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn) persuades the social worker, who is adept with a new experimental technology, to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer in order to learn where he has hidden his latest kidnap victim. Rudolph Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio) usually performs post-mortem rituals on his latest victims. Stargher is in the process of stalking and kidnaping his next victim, a woman named Julia Hickson (Tara Subkoff) when the police work of detectives Peter Novak and Gordon Ramsey (Jake Weber) finally yields a break in the case. This Summer... Enter The Mind on A Killer !. Once you enter the mind of a killer, Yoy may never get out !. His Mind Is Her Prison !. Can beauty tame the beast?

Halfway between psychological thriller, fantasy and science fiction, 'The Cell' is an absorbing but irregular thriller with a police intrigue that goes beyond reality to enter a dreamlike and surreal world. As you'd expect , the mind of a serial killer is not an exactly agreeable place to be, and Jennifer Lopez and the audience encounter some pretty eerie and unsettling stuff . The picture is long on dazzling FX , trippy images and style , but short on real intrigue and cohesive plotting. Here debutant Tarsem Sing, famous commercial and music video director, makes his debut in realization, setting a good part of the story in an imaginary world, inside the mind of the killer, full of ghastly, abstract, creepy, futuristic and erotic images. Main and support are pretty good with plenty of known faces. Jennifer Lopez gives a passable acting as the young psychotherapeust who's involved in a breakthrough research who in order to save a life, she'll have to risk her own. Vaughn as FBI agent Petter Novak who is relentlessly after the killer, and the always disturbing D'Onofrio as the sadistic Carl Stagher. They are accompanied by fine secondaries , such as: Dylan Baker, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Musetta Vander, Patrick Bauchau , James Gammon, Jake Weber, Dean Norris, Tara Subkoff, Lauri Johnson, Catherine Sutherland, Jack Conley, Pruitt Taylor Vince , among others.

It contains a tense and attractive musical score by composer Howard Shore. As well as a luxurious , colorful and surrealist cinematography by cameraman Paul Laufer. This visually striking film was unevenly and originally directed by Tarsem Singh. He is one of the most particular directors on the current film scene, especially for the spectacular visual style that he gives to his films, inherited from his extensive experience in the world of advertising and music videos (REM's ¨Losing my religion¨), many of them influenced by the work of the genius Sergei Parajanov ,and most notably Lady Gaga's song 911. Tarsem has directed some high profile television commercials, including the Pepsi "We Will Rock You" campaign, featuring Britney Spears, P!nk and Beyoncé. In 'The Cell' Tarsem often uses his ordinary trademarks: Colorful settings, characters with elaborate costumes, seamless combination of practical , use of symmetrical structures, most prominently squares and cubes , as well as CGI effects any scenes depicting sand or desert landscapes. This Indian director began his debut with this ¨The Cell¨ and also directed ¨Immortals¨with Henry Cavill. He frequently collaborated with the late costume designer Eiko Ishioka, until her passing, she was the only designer he had worked with . Tarsem also made similar experiments filled with light , color and weird frames such as ¨The fall¨, ¨Immortals¨, ¨The cell¨, ¨Mirror , Mirror¨, among others . Rating: 5.5/10. Well worth watching for Jennifer Lopez fans.

Norbert(a)
(2024)

A peculiar and average film that combines social issues, family comedy and drama.
This so-so film is somewhat hampered by its need to include too many far-reaching themes. Luis Bermejo (Magical Girl, Teresa, Un amor) is Norbeto and Adriana Ozores (Galgos, El Método, Los Hombres de Paco) is Maria, both are a humble couple from the neighborhood, who occasionally commit the odd armed crime in some stores. To do this, Norberto dresses as a woman and only in those moments, he truly feels who he wants to be. Norberto needs to make a change to feel alive, free, to feel like herself. An unexpected confession that will put her life in jeopardy. From now on, he will call himself Norberta and will constantly look like a woman, hiding it from his classmates and friends in the neighborhood.

A slightly funny and endearing story of love and solidarity about sexual identity. There are modern sexual concepts that are in vogue today, such as fluid genre, transgender and others. The film, as explained in the advertising promotion: it is inspired by true stories, it's a hymn to life and freedom, full of vitality, bravery, kindness and naturalness, which in its final part is reminiscent of some classics of Spanish cinema such as "Atraco a las tres". Regardless of the advertising campaign that surround the film, I think it fails on all levels, and that is because it tries to be a comedy when it dives more into drama, in such a way that it does not know how to choose which genre to adapt to. In addition, the central axis of the film is frankly ridiculous, trying to glorify a very mature married couple who carry out armed robberies. Not to mention the absurdity of a man who, at almost seventy, discovers his feminine condition and can't think of anything else but a sex-change operation, and to top off the ridiculousness, he teams up with other friends from the neighborhood who happily and enthusiastically act as accomplices to rob a bingo hall in order to obtain the money for this operation.

The film stars Luís Bermejo who gives a nice acting as Norberta. According to Bermejo himself, who explains: "Norberto is someone with a desire for change, while Norberta is that dream.". While veteran Adriana Ozores privided a fine acting in her usual acting as the suffering wife who unexpectedly discovers her husband's sexual identity and does not want to accept it. The unique humor of Luis Bermejo with touches of drama together with the sensitivity of Adriana Ozores elevate a film with no greater pretensions than to be on the side of its characters . I miss the acting of known supporting actors as it happened in the films of this genre of robberies in the past, which were usually full of familiar faces, veteran actors and cameos. Although 'Norberta' is supported by supporting actors who effectively fulfill their function, they are mainly unknown to the general public, such as: Mariona Terés, María Romanillos, Carmen Balagué, Adelfa Calvo, Maria Lanau and Ramón Agirre. The motion picture was mediocrely directed by Sonia Escolano, and Belén López Albert in their film debut, although the script is frankly terrible . Rating: 4.5/10.

Land of Bad
(2024)

Action-packed, drones, blow-up and crossfire in the Philippines, dealing with a sergeant stranded deep in enemy territory.
Fine war/action movie that works on several levels with solid acting and rousing scenes. The Sulu Sea is home to some of the most violent extremist groups in Southeast Asia like the terrorist organization of Abu Sayyaf. Intelligence agencies are at war against these groups with covert operations being carried out frequently by Governments. One such operations is underway from the Palawan Air Base in the Philippines. The military squadron belongs to "Tier One;" Tier One units, also known as Special Missions Units (SMU), are the most elite of the US military, and includes units such as the army's Delta Force and the navy's SEAL Team Six and the 24th Special Tactics squadron. Stars Captain Eddie "Reaper" Grimm (Russell Crowe), a US Air Force drone pilot, he's an expert with knowledge vital to the enemy, supported by Staff Sergeant Nia Branson (Chika Ikogwe), provides air support from a Reaper to a US Army Delta Force team sent to rescue a CIA spy in the southern Philippines. The crew includes Master Sergeant John "Sugar" Sweet, Sergeant JJ Kinney (He is the JTAC and his job is to guide the drone to its targets on the ground), Sergeant Bishop and Sergeant Abell (Luke Hemsworth). After some shootouts and bombings, Sergeant JJ Kinney (Liam Hemsworth who's the real-life brother of Luke Hemsworth) - a young Air Force TACP (callsign "Playboy") attached to the Delta Force team as its JTAC - is seemingly the only survivor of an attack , as he is stranded in the wilds of Philippines and is directed to an extraction point, relying only on the Reaper's remote air support. Alone , he must rely on himself and confront a whole army after him. Kinney constantly talks to Kinney on the satellite phone and keeps him moving, while helping him avoid hostile forces in his path . Trapped behind enemy lines , an only one man with whom he has radio contact can save him and to get him out. No man left behind !. Operation Caretaker !.

It's an exciting warlike movie that contains nice performances , continuous suspense , poignant vignettes and unsparing action .This stirring warlike movie mixes suspense , thrills, rugged action and attractive dialog, including lots of intrigue , without losing sight of the continuation of its interesting plot or necessities of war against terrorism and that's why it works on all levels . However, relying heavily on the continuous relationship by means of radio-satellite talking among them and adding solid interpretations through the enjoyable fellowship and friendship by oral communication. It gets the right balance between the old-style ¨Objective Burma¨, ¨Battleground¨ and the modern wartime movies as ¨Hamburger Hill¨ , ¨Casualty of war¨and specially ¨Peter Markle's Bat 21¨ of which it seems to be partially a kind of remake . Noisy action scenes punctuate the tension without breaking it . Liam Hemsworth is good as a stranded sergeant alone after his team is taken down and top-notch the fat and bulky Russell Crowe as a reconnaissance captain who becomes determined to save him . Liam Hemsworth and Russell Crowe give terrific acting in this otherwise passable film . Secondary cast is frankly good such as: Luke Hemsworth, Milo Ventimiglia, Ricky Whittle, Chika Ikogwe and Daniel MacPherson as a carefree colonel .

Moving musical score fitting to action by Brandon Roberts, as well as colorful although somewhat dark cinematography by cameraman Agustin Claramunt .The motion picture was professionally directed by William Eubank , though with no originality . He's a writer , cameraman and director, especially known for ¨The Sign¨(2016), "Love" (2011) and Underwater (2020) . Rating : 6/10 . Acceptable and passable , but neither notable, nor extraordinary , but decent. Compassionate thinkers , lovers warfare genre , and pacifists will all find satisfaction here .

Bigger Than Life
(1956)

James Mason gives a terrific acting as a seriously-ill schoolteacher becomes profoundly dependent on a miracle drug.
Ed Avery (James Mason, producer too) is a teacher who begins suffering pain and fainting spells, and is finally diagnosed with a strange inflammation of the arteries. The doctors (Robert F. Simon, Roland Winters) inform Ed that he only has a few months to live and he agrees to an experimental treatment that consists of the administration of doses of cortisone. Meanwhile, his wife (Barbara Rush) watches with concern the strange and crazy behavior of her husband both at the school where he is a teacher and at home, and also his attitude towards his son (Christopher Olsen) , which turns out to be violent at times. Suburbia is haunted by psychosis , family life torn apart by Oedipal bloodlust !. Portrait of a man with a habit!. The Motion Picture You've Been Hearing About ... Reading About ... And Talking About!. A theme so vital... we urge you to bring all your compassion and understanding to it!. Life Saver or Life Destroyer?. "I prescribed it...he misused it!"

This is the exciting story of the handful of hope that became a fistful of hell, containing intense drama, emotion, and based on actual events. In fact, the magazine article upon which this film is based, "Ten Feet Tall", was published in 1955 edition by The New Yorker. It is about the actual case history of a Long Island school teacher in 1948 when the drug cortisone was new on the market. A drama that tells the agony of a man who has some totally harmful and maddening side effects from an experimental therapy. The movie marked a high point in the careers of James Mason, the absolute protagonist of the feature film, his performance as the mild schoolteacher who is prescribed the wonder drug cortisone and becomes raving megalomaniac addict remains profoundly disturbing, his furrowed brow and brooding presence have rarely been used to better effect, and , of course, Nicholas Ray providing an efficient direction, a filmmaker who had just directed James Dean in the iconic 'Rebel Without a Cause'. At every level the banal props of 50s prosperity are turned into symbols of trauma and suffocation, from the X-ray machine used to diagnose Mason's disease to the bathroom cabinet mirror shattering under a desperate blow.

There's a magnificent cinematography in Scope and Eastman Colour by prestigious cameraman Joseph MacDonald, as well as a stirring and evocative musical score by composer David Raskin. The motion picture was compellingly directed by Nicholas Ray. Ray's direction is as moving as ever, including delicate compositions and fluid camerawork contradicted by the image of a weak man locked into obsessive self-destruction. Ray was a great director who made masterpieces , successes and failures . Nicholas made his feature film debut: "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" (1945), in which director Elia Kazan hired Ray to be his assistant, where he was first introduced to filmmaking. Producer John Houseman called Ray back to New York where he made his live TV debut with the enormously popular "Sorry, Wrong Number" (1946), plus some other radio work. His following film was "Thieves Like Us" stars Farley Granger and Cathy O'Donnell as young, naive lovers trying to let their love blossom while running from the law. Ray quickly accepted a project without thinking, that film was "A Woman's Secret" (1949), which Nicholas probably would've turned down had he though twice about going back to work, as it bears little of his trademarks, it is only memorable because it is where Ray met actress Gloria Grahame, who became his second wife. Nicholas Ray directed all kinds of genres as Epic , Noir Film , Drama , Western , Religious , Wartime, such as : "The live by Night" , "Knock in any Door" , "In a lonely place" , "Born to be bad" , "On Dangerous Ground", "Flying Leathernecks", "The Lusty Man" , "Johnny Guitar", "Party Girl", "The King of Kings" , "55 days in Pekin" and several others. Rating ¨Bigger Than Life¨(1956) : Notable 7,5/10. Better than average .

In the Mouth of Madness
(1994)

A Lovecraftian weirdness with creepy atmospherics by seasoned genre director John Carpenter.
John Trent (Sam Neill), a cynical, sceptical insurance investigator investigates a claim made by Arcane Publishing director Jackson Harglow (Charlton Heston) and he is asked to trace Sutter Cane, America's vanished number one best-selling author, whose horror novels affect people in way that triggers violence. So Trent follows the trail of Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow), a writer who mysteriously disappears and who, through his strange horror novels, exercises a supernatural power over his readers. Talking with him publishing assistant (Julie Carmen), both of whom embark on a journey to New England. Neill sets off for the see seemingly non-existent town of Hobb's End, -the fictional setting for many of Cane's works- which reaches through what seems like a time tunnel between fact and fiction. Or may be.. but...no .There are no words to describe Sutter Cane's latest and greatest novel !. There are no words to describe Sutter Cane !. Lived Any Good Books Lately? . Reality isn't what it used to be...

A strong personal film displaying horror, thriller, mystery , suspense , shocks , grisly scenes and intriguing events with an amazing final. Most if not all of quotes, phrases, sentences are actually taken directly from several H. P. Lovecraft short stories with some adaptations to fit them into the film story. This peculiar and eerie horror flick pays tribute to or pokes fun at Stephen King and H. P. Lovecraft with a story of successful horror novelist whose fans become a bit too engrossed in his stories and seems his readers tend to slip into dementia and carry out grisly acts depicted within the pages. It is the story of an order of beings that exists in parallel dimension, expelled from this world but waiting patiently to cross hack and take control again. Refracting the traditional conflict of Good and Evil, the sometimes twisted and complex storyline remains engrossing and interesting thanks to Carpenter's chilling atmospherics. It is strangely realized , a decent film thanks to be generated by fluid camerawork in charge of nice cameraman Gay B. Kibbe, Carpenter's regular, and striking angles, being reinforced by a narrative which builds leisurely but surely towards a thrilling and surprising climax . This is an imaginative , horror-filled thriller with some nice moments , even if the storyline is not up to the scale of the original tale. The film belongs to Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy, the first being The Thing (1982) and the second being Prince of Darkness (1987).

Sam Neill plays finely an insurance investigtor who must track down the missing author while combating the psychotic, axe-wielding residents of the seemingly quiet east coast hamlet where the writer resides. Magnificent plethora of characters with exceptional performances for its entire cast . There are various familiar faces in the casting, such as Jürgen Prochnow as Sutter Cane , David Warner , John Glover, Bernie Casey, Peter Jason and the always great Charlton Heston in a brief acting. Worth a look for the above average FX from Industrial Light and Magic (ILM, courtesy of George Lucas) and astonishing makeup provided by experts Robert Kutzman, Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger.

The motion picture was competently directed by John Carpenter . Master of horror John Carpenter directs this terrifying battle between a human and the ultimate evil , though it has some flaws and gaps. He manages some neat flourishes of his own, handling the narrative with twists, turns and unsettling FX sequences with his customary skill. Carpenter formed a band in the mid-1970s called The Coupe de Villes, which included future directors Tommy Lee Wallace and Nick Castle. That's why Carpenter composes himself the pulsing and sinister musical scores in his films. Since the 1970s, he has had numerous roles in the film industry including writer, actor, composer, producer, and director. Although Carpenter has directed films in numerous other genres (dark comedy, sci-fi, romance), he is known primarily for making horror films. After directing "Dark Star" (1974), he has helmed both classic horror films like "Halloween" (1978), "The Fog" (1980), and "The Thing" (1982), and noted sci-fi tales like "1997: escape from NY" (1981) and "Starman" (1984). And especially "In the mouth of madness" (1994) that has certain resemblances to "Prince of Darkness" . Rating "in the Mouth of Madness" (1994) : 6.5/10 . The flick will appeal to John Carpenter followers.

Both Victor and Beatrice have dark secrets, and neither of them say they are and both have sinister plans for revenge. Blood demands blood ! .Revenge is coming ¡!

. An action thriller with a very personal setting, containing intrigue, violence, shootous , twists and turns. There's a complex and twisted relationship between the two peculiar characters full of wounds both physical and mental, in which there's chemistry enough and this intensity of their relationship will lead them to execute a violent and semiotic plan of revenge. Including a frenetic race against time for our starring to to save his loved ones .This is the first film made in Hollywood by the Danish Neils Arden including interpretations from the two starring frankly good: Colin Farrell as Victor, a crime lord's right-hand man has infiltrated the crime empire run by ruthless kingpin with the single purpose of making pay for destroying his once happy life and Noomi Rapace as the wounded woman full of scars on her face, as well as with a deep trace of inner anger This is an interesting revenge story in which Dominic Cooper and Terrence Howard also play key roles, along with some great contributions from Isabelle Huppert, Armand Assante, Stu Bennett, Franky G and brief acting from the Oscarized F. Murray Abraham.

The motion picture was well directed by Niels Arden Oplev. Neals had this to say about the film: ¨Nobody's born evil, I guess that's why we're drawn to violence, we're fascinated by it, but there's a moral in how you examine it. When you cast, you can't cast only visually; you have to cast emotionally, too¨. ¨I have disowned the American advertising campaign, which he felt misrepresented the movie.¨I'm interested in the human more than I'm interested in building suspense¨. He also spoke of budget problems during production, which forced him to speed up the filming, and of not being able to edit the film the way he would have preferred¨. Oplev as born on March 26, 1961 in Denmark. This Danish director directs indistinctly in his native Denmark as well as in the United States. He is a good director and producer, known for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009), We Shall Overcome (2006), Flatliners (2017) , Speed Walking (2014), Held for Ransom (2019), Rose (2022). And has also directed episodes of several successful television series such as Vikings: Valhalla, NCISI : Origins, The Turkish Detective, FBI, Midnight, Texas, Game of silence, Mr Robot., Unforgettable. Dead Man Down(2013) rating: 7//10. Better than average. The film will appeal to Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace fans.

Miyazaki, L'Esprit de la Nature
(2024)

An interesting personal portrayal of Hayao Miyazaki, the prestigious film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author, and manga artist.
This documentary premiered at the last edition of the Venice Film Festival and introduces us to Hayao Miyazaki like never before. Hayao, founder of Studio Ghibli, has been transporting us to unique universes with his films for over 50 years. My Neighbor Tororo, Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke are the top ten of his films, which have already become cult classics. Thanks to privileged access to his work and interviews with his son, director Goro Miyazaki, and with Toshio Suzuki, producer and friend of Hayao, we discover the life, cinema and influences of the director. In fact, In 2014, Miyazaki was awarded an Honorary Academy Award for his impact on animation and cinema.

Miyazaki's early work was as a mangaka, when Hayao first saw the film The Panda and the Magic Serpent, he made the decision to dedicate himself to film animation. His first film was Panda and Friends, made with his usual collaborator Takahata. And he worked for the powerful Toei film company , working in Horus: Prince of the Sun (1968), a precursor to the ' Shónen style' in anime (Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto), its then revolutionary ideas were copied and perfected to the point of exhaustion in the most popular series and films of the genre. Surrounded by a young and ambitious team led by the then unknown and newcomer Hayao Miyazaki, he provided the set design and ideological support for much of this film. But this was a time of student revolt and strikes and director Takahata and Miyazaki (future founders of Studio Ghibli who met here for the first time) were idealists with left-wing convictions at the time. This caused a strong clash with Toei, since the working conditions were precarious and exhausting. His next film was ¨The Castle of Cagliostro¨, which was a commercial failure, however today it is a highly revered film and a cult film. Due to the previous failure, Hayao became a mangaka again, drawing the manga series, Nausicaa. Due to its success, he continued with the film adaptation: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984). He founded Ghibli Studios with his partner, friend and long-time collaborator Takahata. Since then, he has since directed, written, and produced many other films with Isao Takahata. More recently, he has produced with Toshio Suzuki. All enjoyed critical and box office success, in particular Princess Mononoke (1997). It received the Japanese equivalent of the Academy Award for Best Film and was the highest-grossing (about USD $150 million) domestic film in Japan's history at the time of its release.

In addition to animation, he also draws manga. His major work was Nausicaä, an epic tale he worked on intermittently from 1982 to 1984 while he was busy making animated films. Another manga Hikotei Jidai, later evolved into Porco Rosso (1992). Other important animes were : Castle in the Sky (1986), Ponyo (2008) , Tales from Earthsea (2006) along with his son Goro Miyazaki, and, of course, his masterpiece Spirited away (2001).

The documentary is very instructive, thanks to it we learn the main keys to Hayao's work: his interest in the environment, ecology, natural and man-made disasters, environment, climate change, Japanese religion as Shintoism, Animism , spiritual beings like the Camy, etc. He was born during the Second World War, and suffered the consequences as a child, being very worried due to his mother's tuberculosis. We learn of his interest in aviation because his relatives worked in aircraft manufacturing, especially he loved the iconic plane in his films, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, which operated in WWII. As well as his fondness for vegetation and trees such as the camphor tree, especially the one located in Nagoya.

The Sin-tillating Capers of Two Cunning Con Men who Fleeced the Sexiest Chicks on the Riviera...until each decided to become the king !

Remake of the film directed by Ralph Levy in 1964: 'Bedtime story'. Behind the camera is Frank Oz, a filmmaker whose filmography combines fantasy and high comedy. Both stars, are very good, laughs come at regular intervals, the storyline is almost too sphisticated to contain swear-word and you may be surprised at how it all results. This time it features the terrific Michael Caine and Steve Martin, recreating the roles of Marlon Brando and David Niven. Both of whom give magnificent interpretations in this pleasant, polished comedy that's agreeable without being uproarious and and shot by cameraman Michael Ballhaus in terrific color on location in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, Côte d'Azur, Villa Ile-de-Frances, Cap Ferrat, French Riviera, Alpes-Maritimes, Gironde, France .There's enjoyable musical score by Miles Goodman and some gleaming barbs in the duel of wits , standing out Steve Martin's lunatic sense of humour, he's especially funny as the idiot. They're well accompanied by the deceased Glenne Headly who's charming as the prey who's always one step ahead of them. Along with a good plethora of fine secondaries, such as: Barbara Harris, Anton Rodgers, Ian McDiarmid, Dana Ivey, Meagen Fay, Frances Conroy, among others.

The motion picture was decently directed by Frank Oz. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of best comedy actor for Michael Caine. Frank Oz has a succesful career as puppeteers responsible for the development of Jim Henson's films .And he was the man who brought us the voice of Yoda in ¨The Empire strikes again¨. Frank began a career of behind-the-camera puppet and live action filmmaking by co-directing Dark Crystal (1982) with Henson. He went on to direct The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984), The little shop of horrors (1986), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), What about Bob? (1991), The Indian in the Cupboard (1995) , Bowfinger (1999), The Score (2001), The Stepford Wives (2004) and Death at a funeral (2007). This is a nice stuff , recommended for Michael Caine and Steve Martin fans. Rating : 6.5/10 . Acceptable and almost notable film, nor extraordinary , but decent.

Lágrimas negras
(1998)

This sad as well as intimate story is a passionate retelling and a touching melodrama.
Charming and sensitive drama about an outlandish love story starred by some troublesome characters. Andrés (Fele Martínez) is a young photographer whose life is completely sorted out. He has a steady job and is about to marry his longtime girlfriend Alicia (Elena Anaya) . Then a woman named Isabel and her mate (Ana Risueño) rob him on the street and he is kidnapped at gunpoint. The two women result to be drug addicts and thieves. Andres' life is completely shaken after he meets Isabel and disturbed by this traumatic experience. When he sees Isabel in the images where he works, he looks for her, finds her and establishes a peculiar relationship with her. But something about this mysterious woman changes everything. Isabel is a really tormented woman, she's not really crazy, but simply different, then Andres can't help, being attracted to her. Despite the warnings of his psychiatrist Marta (Elvira Minguez) that she is crazy and that she cannot be cured, he begins a love affair, he goes with the deranged and drug addicted girl to Portugal.

A downbeat and brooding film dealing with a suffering and tragic love story. A sad story about an 'amor fou' in which Andres follows Isabel wherever it might be necessary, whatever the consequences. Following the line that begins with the documentary ¨Después de tantos años (After so many years)¨ and continuing with his greatest success: ¨La Buena Estrella (Lucky Star)¨(1997) the scriptwriter and director Ricardo Franco makes the most risky and complex of his works. He died in the middle of filming, when he had only shot a third of the film, his assistant and friend Fernando Bauluz finished it, which gives rise to various hypotheses about how it would have been if he could have finished it personally.

It is a work of certain dramatic complexity, where a too young Fele Martínez appears somewhat lost between Ariadana Gil as a woman with a mental disorder, and Elena Anaya as his , becoming a puppet in their hands. His love story with Ariadne doesn't work properly and isn't very credible, so to speak. Despite everything, and having several imperfections and cracks, the film is set to be one of the greatest love stories of the last decades. Presented at the Valladolid Festival in a somewhat hasty montage, it is released again with 5 minutes less and surrounded by a certain curiosity due to the conditions of the shooting and the death of its director, which does not benefit it much, both with the public and with the critics.

In the film stands out the colorful cinematography by cameraman Gonzalo F. Berridi , shot on location in Madrid, Cascais, Sinatra , Lisbon, Óbidos, Leiria, Portugal. As well as the enjoyable and moving musical score by Eva Gancedo. The motion picture was produced by great producer Fernando Bovaira ; being unevenly directed in his particular style by Ricardo Franco and finished by Fernando Bauluz . This was a Spanish director, writer and lyricist , he was a member of Madrid's independent Cinema, making films about the underprivileged . Ricardo directed a series of award-winning movies firmly establishing him as one of the best Spanish filmmakers , in spite of his early death , as he died on May 20, 1998 in Madrid at 48 years old . Franco was a good director and writer , an expert on literary adaptations and especially known for dramas. His first independient film was ¨El Desastre of Annual¨ (1970) . Later on , directing several decent , interesting and provoking films as ¨Restos Del Naufragio¨, ¨San Judas de Frontera¨, ¨Después Tantos Años¨, ¨El sueño de Tánger (1991)¨ , ¨Berlín Blues (1988)¨ , his big hit: ¨La Buena Estrella or Lucky Star¨ (1997) , ¨Berlín Blues¨ , and Lágrimas Negras (1998) . Rating: 6/10. Attractive love drama with fine Spanish players.

Lean on Me
(1989)

A true story about a real hero magnificently played by Morgan Freeman.
The romanticized version of the career of Joe Clark, a tough and moralist New Jersey teacher who became the principal of the state's toughest , worst school and through controversial hard-line tactics, turned it around. He was fired long time ago; and nowadays , he's back as a dedicated but tyrannical Joe Clark, appointed the principal of a decaying inner-city school, and being determined to improve by any and all means. Morgan Freeman is determined to do his job , despite resistance from both students and school management. But Joe finds a den of drug abuse, gang violence, and urban despair. Eventually he is successful but unorthodox methods lead to a clash with city officials that threatens to undo all his efforts. He goes to work at an unruly school that is like nothing he has ever seen before , as he must face off a motley crew of adolescents in the classroom. Eastside High was out of control...until Joe Clark took it back !. They called him crazy for padlocking the doors, and for changing all the rules !. But Joe Clark was crazy about one thing only: the students who loved him !. Eastside High never had a principal this tough...or one who cared this much about its students !. Eastside High was a training ground for jail !. A high school teacher determines to change the school laws by using all kind of new means ! . Then Joe Clark took over, now the kids are getting something they never had, a future !.

A touching and gentle portrait of the influence of a teacher upon a high school of poverty-ridden teens. Excellent rendition based on an idealistic teacher who has his own ideas of discipline in a slum area and fights doggedly to dominate his unruly students at their classrooms. Regarding a brave principal at a school dominated by rebel students. Well-remembered school drama from the 80s dealing with the trials and tribulations of an idealist black teacher at a tough school , being based on actual events . This entertaining as well as thought-provoking film contains big feeling, drama , thrills , emotion and with a quite convincing, studious atmosphere .

In Lean on Me(1989) excels Morgan Freeman who gives a terrific acting as the arrogant and unorthodox teacher returns as principal to the idyllic high school from which he had earlier been fired. This is an original classic picture dealing with a teacher fighting troubled students and the ordinary confrontation in the troubled classroom . Being very worthy in its intention and including faith in American youth . We are especially concerned when these teenagers boil over in schools with attractive and moving scenes , and incidents depicted here are real .

This ¨Lean on Me¨(1989) ¨ follows in the wake of ¨To Sir, with Love¨(1967)¨by James Clavell, stars Sidney Poitier, or ¨Stand and deliver´by Ramón Menéndez wiith Edward James Olmos, more than ¨Dangerous Minds¨ (1995) by John Smith, stars Michelle Pfeiffer and has nothing to do with ¨Blackboard jungle¨ (1955) by Richard Brooks, written by Evan Hunter with Glenn Ford , Anne Francis and Sidney Poitier himself ; the latter dealing with a ominous group of students carrying out threats , robbing with gangs terrorizing the entire high school by executing crimes and violence at random, then the English teacher Glenn Ford pulls off his owns objectives , leading to an ever higher tension , in fact , due to the film violent content had great notoriety and important impression as well as some problems with censorship. ¨Lean on Me¨ is more sensitive , enjoyable and charming than the previous films . If it looks more than a little simplistic and dated nowadays , there are good-natured messages and nice sentiment. Stars Morgan Freeman in one of his finest acting as the teacher who instills in his pupils a belief in themselves and respect for one other. Freeman's a complete show, accompanied by a memorable support cast through stickier patches , full of veteran actors and newcomers, such as Be:verly Todd , Robert Guillaume, Alan North, Robin Bartlett, Michael Beach, Ethan Phillips, Mike Starr, Tony Todd, Bruce Malmuth, Michael Imperioli, among others.

The picture was notably directed by John G Avildsen. He was a nice filmmaker who has mixed more karate Kid and Rocky films with such feel-good message films as ¨Power of one, or ¨ Lean on me¨. He was a good director, writer and editor, known for shooting fims in all kinds of genres, such as: Inferno (1999), 8 Seconds (1994) , Happy New Year (1987), Rocky (1976), Rocky V (1990) and The Karate Kid Part III (1989) , Save the Tiger (1973), Joe (1970) and several others. Lean on Me(1989) rating: 7/10. Above average. Essential and fundamental seeing for Morgan Freeman fans.

Hoshi o Ou Kodomo
(2011)

Riveting and wonderful anime with attractive scenarios and overflowing fantasy.
A coming of age story dealing with Asuka, she is the protagonist of this story, who spends her days alone listening to the mysterious music emitted by an old crystal radio, a gift that her absent father gave her as a memento before he died. Attacked by a monstrous creature, rescued by a mysterious boy named Shun and hunted by a relentless enemy,. Asuna will be immersed in an ancient mystery that could be the secret of life itself. It leads the young heroine deep into a hidden world, to a legendary country with several surprises. A journey to say goodbye !. A girl who does not yet realise her loss, and a boy from a foreign land searching for his place !. A man who refuses to accept his loss !. Each with their own feelings in their hearts, they set out on a journey into the depths of the world !.

The beauty of the settings, the characters, maarvellous drawings and the fantasy elements leave no doubt as to why the director has been labeled as the new Hayao Miyazaki. This wonderful film is plenty of fantasy , adventures, drama, spectacular combats and with ecological message . The picture is narrated with sensibility and sense of wonder and quite entertaining. The film has all the necessary elements to be a success among anime fans. It is a story of great fantasy involving young love and a mysterious music with a courageous protagonist who enters a beautiful world full of colorful settings and strange creatures, clearly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki's classic 'Princess Mononoke'. There's also a deep critical about nature exploiting and disasters and rampage caused by the encroaching human civilization. With an impressive quality of colors and animation, this is one of the best anime of 2011. A fantastic journey to a parallel world, Shinkai directs this fable that connects the most earthly part of nature with the most mystical part.

It is inevitable to compare the style of the film with that of Hayao Miyazaki and his Ghibli studio, of which Shinkai confesses to having always admired it. In addition, the music composed by Tenmen, a friend and regular collaborator of the director, stands out. The motion picture was professional and stunningly directed by Makoto Shinkai After spending a year in London, Makoto returned to Japan with renewed energy to undertake a new film project that would follow in the footsteps of his previous ones. Focusing on the loss of loved relatives, he also explored the ways in which we can overcome this loss. Unlike in other works, in which Shinkai himself created a novel version, here he opted for two different adaptations in the form of Manga: ¨Journey to Agartha: Children who chase lost voiced from deep below¨ by Tomoko Mitani and ¨Journey to Agartha: Children who come from deep below¨ by Asahi Hidaka. The film was nominated for the award for best animated design at the Asia Pacific 2011, as well as the Golden Raven at the Brussels Fantasy Festival that same year. Hoshi o Ou Kodomo(2011) rating: 7.5/10. Better than average.

Car Crash
(1981)

So-so Italian/Spanish/Mexican co-production with good buddy roles for Joey Travolta and Vittorio Mezzogiorno.
Paul (Joey Travolta) is an ace driver and at times an illegal and freelance racer, while Nick (Vittorio Mezzogiorno) is a wizard of mechanics, they form a perfect team of auto racers. By winning a rigged race and Paul had to leave victory to a rider of a team in the pay of a gangster named Wronsky (Ricardo Palacios), our friends are forced to temporarily erase circuits; to get away the wrath of Wronsky and his henchmen (Sal Borghese). Then the reckless drivers get involved with the usual gang of goons who proceed to make their life painful . Along their risked adventures they meet Janice Johnson (Ana Obregon), an antiques dealer, who falls in love for Paul. Thing go wrong when the three of them go to the house of the wealthy Kirby (John Steiner) and his snooty butler Gershwin.

Formula thriller with noisy action , thrills , crisply edition , tension , intrigue , and loads of noisy races. A routine thriller dealing with the relationships between three friends: Joey Travolta, Vittorio Mezziogorno , Ana Obregón in the world of car racing competitions, accompanied by other prolific secondaries in a large number of Spag Westerns and other Latin sub-genres. The main duo Joey Travolta and Vittorio Mezzogiorno are threatened by a mobster not to participate in the car tournament called the 'Race of the Dead', but the stubborn pair are determined to compete at any cost. The picture was unevenly written by four screen writers: Marco Tullio Giordana, Massimo De Rita, Concha Espina and Margheritti himself, being regularly shot by Antonio Margheritti in his peculiar style .Antonio was considered to be one of the best Italian craftsmen , making a nice career, shooting all kinds of genres. Here he delivers frenetic action, suspense, thriller and violence enough along the nail-biting flick. There is a good stuntwork with risked races , pursuits and cars jumping here and there.

This is a mostly Italian film, in the early 1960's Italians made movies about Gladiators known as Peplum or Sword and Sandals , then they made Spaghetti Westerns , then Spy Movies , Gothic Horrors , War Flicks , Giallo Slashers , Crime Trash Epics or Poliziotto , Sex comedy , Rampaging Shark thrillers , Star Wars ripoffs , and eventually Racing Movies . This Car Crash(1981) belongs to car races sub-genre in which protagonists competing in dangerous circuits trying to force each other off the road, combined with a threatening mobsters subplot . Stars Joey Travolta as a brave racer whose role gets involved in problems when he's blackmailed along with Vittorio Mezzogiorno as the sympathetic expert on car mechanics. And there're various familiar faces, habituals of the prolific Italian and Spanish sub-genres of the sixties, seventies, and eighties, such as Ricardo Palacios, John Steiner, and the eternal secondary and stuntsman Sal Borgese. A nice cast in this one doing their bit , but the story is rather small scale and slightly dull and tiring in parts . It makes up for the excellent races taken from real competitions , though the car crashes are lousy stock footage , as well as the exciting climax final of the movie. And with some hilarious use of miniatures (of which the director was an expert with continuous use in his films, as well as explosions) and scale models of toy cars jumping over trains or cliffs.

It contains atmospheric and colorful cinematography by cameraman Hans Burmann. Likewise , catching and moving musical score in the Eighties style, composed by means synthesizer, including some songs at the time .The motion picture was average but professionally directed by terror/action/adventure expert Antonio Margheritti, and it displays some failures and flaws . Antonio was assisted by his son : Edoardo Margheriti who usually served as second unit filmmaker . Antonio often used pseudonym Anthony M Dawson, he was born in Italy 1930 and passed away in 2002 . Italian writer director of horror and exploitation films, a former university engineering student who began shooting in 1956 . Antonio directs with ordinary aplomb and being especially known for films as ¨Yor, Virus¨ and ¨Horror castle¨. He was specialist in model-making, optical effects , FX, miniature as floods, scale models and explosions . He directed all kinds of genres such as wartime : ¨The last hunter, Tornado, Codename Wild geese, Der Commander, Command Leopard¨ . SCI-Fi : ¨War of planets , Planet of the prowl, Criminal of the galaxy, Yor the hunter from the future, Treasure planet¨ . Spaghetti Western as ¨Joko, Dynamite Joe, The stranger and the gunfighter, Take a hard ride, Ghosts go west, Joe implacable, God said to Cain¨ . Terror as ¨Virgin of Nuremberg, Cannibal Apocalypse, Alien from deep, Flesh for Frankenstein¨. Action : ¨Operation Goldman, Indio, The squeeze, Cyberflic¨. Rating Car Crash(1981) : 4.5/10. Average but acceptable and passable, at times.

Those Who Wish Me Dead
(2021)

A solid and exciting thriller about a relentless pursuit between two ominous killers and a survival expert who protects a boy.
Annah Faber (Angelina Jolie), a forest fire watch-woman who blames herself for a series of deaths that occurred some time ago. She's a smoke-jumper , a person who is parachuted into the middle of forest fires from an airplane to douse them out, she is struggling after failing to prevent the deaths of three young campers and a fellow smoke-jumper in a forest fire. She is now posted in a fire lookout tower in Park County, Montana. Meantime, Owen Casserly (Jake Weber), a forensic accountant, learns about the death of his district attorney boss and his family in an apparent gas explosion; believing that their deaths were actually a contracted killing and that he is the next target, Owen goes on the run with his son, Connor (Finn Little). He intends to seek refuge with his brother-in-law, Ethan Sawyer (Jon Bernthal), a Deputy Sheriff, married to Allison(Medina Senghore). Owen calls Ethan and asks him to assemble a TV crew, as he wants to expose his evidence to the media. Hannah is Ethan's ex girlfriend, and Ethan is worried about her emotional state of mind. They are ambushed by the assassins "Jack" (Aidan Gillen) and "Patrick" (Nicholas Hoult) who are determined to track down the witness boy . Along the way,, they're relentlessly chased throughout the Montana wilderness with the survival expert Hanna tasked with protecting him -- and a forest fire threatening to consume them all.

Thriillng and moving thriller with unstopped action from start to finish. This tense and nail-biting thriller is packed with as much taut action as the storyline will allow , but let down at times . Angelina Jolie stars in this survival thriller as Hanna, a forest watcher who's in depression and tries to keep her spirits up by indulging in dangerous stunts involving smoke jumping, while being pursued by two hired killers who at whatever cost wants to take down a witness. During one of her shifts, survival expert Hanna comes across a 12-year-old boy who is fleeing from the killers and who she must keep safe from the men who are chasing him and also from the fire they cause in the forests of Montana. It contains an agreeable chemistry between the two leads : Angelina Jolie and the child Finn Little providing sympathy and humor. Along with Jolie, the cast is completed by Nicholas Hoult (Tolkien, Young Beast in the X-Men saga), Aidian Gillen (Game of Thrones), they do well as the murderers who will stop at nothing to find the witness boy played by the young Finn Little. All the clichés clock in , characterisation is simple and cardboard, but the film works enough . They are very well accompanied by a fine support cast with plenty of familiar faces, such as : Jon Bernthal, Jake Weber, Medina Senghore, Tyler Perry, Tory Kittles, Boots Southerland, among others .

It packs a picturesque cinematography shot on stunning locations in Bernalillo, New Mexico, Santa Clara Pueblo, Santa Clara, Albuquerque, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico , splendidly photographed by cameraman by Ben Richardson. As well as intriguing and stirring musical score by Brian Tyler. The motion picture was competently directed by Taylor Sheridan though it draws some flaws and gaps in about equal number . Taylor Sheridan is an American actor, screenwriter, and director. He also starred in the FX television series Sons of Anarchy (2008) and directed the film Wind River (2017), starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. Professionally directed by Taylor Sheridan, creator of hits such as the Yellowstone series, screenwriter of Comancheria and Sicario, and Hell or High Water (2016), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The script of Those Who Wish Me Dead(2021) is by Sheridan himself along with Charles Leavitt and Michael Koryta, author of the book of the same name on which the script is based. Rating; 6/10. Essential and indispensable seeing for Angelina Jolie fans.
