Billions: The Conversation
(2016)
Episode 12, Season 1

That's how you close a season!
Wow, what a finale.

I am a bit late to Billions, liked the opening, stuck with it, gradually got better and then took off for the last 4 episodes, great show.

The writing is top notch. The best thing about it is that you never know which side you are on, love and hate Axe & Chuck in equal measures. In fact the only character you root for is Wendy. Brian's a good guy too but has his head been turned? Maybe, ever so slightly.

Can't find season 2 streaming anywhere so may have to go old school and buy the DVD.

"You're a traffic cop hiding in federal robes"

An absolute rock solid 9/10 from me. Enjoy.

Your Christmas or Mine 2
(2023)

Solid Christmas movie......
Good, solid, warm, family Christmas entertainment. Enjoyed the first one, saw they made a sequel and enjoyed it just as much.

Asa Butterfield, Cora Kirk and Daniel Mays were excellent.

Read some of the one star reviews which is a bit of a shame because it is just a bit of Christmas fun which doesn't take itself too seriously. I see many people calling it formulaic but let's be honest, we all (or many of us) like the standard RomCom formula.

Highly recommend if you fancy a new Christmas film. Ok, it's not Home Alone or the Griswalds but it's pretty decent, great locations and good solid fun. Here's to a third installment.

Moments in Spacetime
(2020)

Really good......
I stumbled across this film this very afternoon and it got me hooked. The storyline and locations were a little different, interesting. John Rhys-Davies was great and the lead, Patty Srisuwan was amazing, why hasn't she done more?

I'm not entirely sure about the narration, but I guess it was sort of in keeping with the mood of the film, "your happiness and your sadness, it's all reflected in those eyes"

It's a great afternoon film if you want something thought provoking, a little different and brilliantly acted. The music works well too.

A solid 8 of of 10 from me, I urge you to give it a try.

Need for Speed
(2014)

Pretty good, and I'm a Gran Turismo fan....
Acting fine, very good cast.

Storyline OK, keeps you engaged throughout.

Racing scenes very good.

Overall I really liked it, wasn't expecting much but pleasantly surprised. Bit cheesy of course but a solid 7 from me. Enjoy.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park
(1997)

B Movie
B Movie, didn't hate it....... The premise was the best they could come up with following the original, but the T-Rex running free downtown was pure B-Movie classic.

Not sure what Jeff & Julie were thinking but hey, think they got away with it. Worth a watch.

The Bounty Hunter
(2010)

Good fun, 5.6 is about right.
My review is pretty much in the title. If there's nothing else on, say you're scrolling through the tv channels in your hotel room (as I was....) it's something to fill the time until your dinner reservation. We could only get 9:15pm........

Ok, so, Jennifer & Gerard are always going to be OK, and yes they were. Far from either of their greatest romcoms, but like I say, it passes the time. 5.6/10 from me.

Frost/Nixon
(2008)

Sheen / Langella
Excellent film.

Sheen was brilliant, Langella even better. I still don't know the full ins and outs of Watergate, but you don't need to know to really enjoy this film.

Everything was great; the supporting cast, the direction, the BOAC 747, the classic Merc, the suits, the Italian shoes, all very well done.

Strongly recommend, at least an 8/10.

Two and a Half Men: Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt
(2011)
Episode 1, Season 9

Hey, not bad.......
Now c'mon, sure we're all gonna miss Charlie, and whilst I didn't care much for the funeral scene, the rest of it was pretty damn good.

Berta will remain my favourite character.

Spenser Confidential
(2020)

Actually, pretty damn good
I was a little unsure at first, had a strange feel, but I thought with Marky Mark and Alan Arkin (two of my all time faves) I'd better stick with it, and really glad I did.

Really good film, a strong 7/10.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service
(1969)

Classic Bond, one of the best
As I write IMDB has this at 6.7, a total injustice. Most Bond films get at least a 7 or 8 from me (maybe not Moonraker). This however is one of the very best.

Does George Lazenby regret not doing more? I guess deep down, only he will know. With only limited acting experience prior to this I thought he pulled it off well. He certainly looked the part and Diana Rigg was fantastic.

Story line and action sequences were great. Very moving at the end too. Maybe George was happy to walk away after just one classic, who knows. A very solid 8/10 from me.

Friends with Money
(2006)

Good cast. It's a nearly but not quite......
My title says it all really. Seen it a couple of times now and I do like the cast if not their characters too much. I like the premise, the plot (if there is one) but it just doesn't quite work. Can't give it more than a six I'm afraid......but you know what, it's very watchable.

Lost Girls and Love Hotels
(2020)

Good, I think.....
Thought for a while about this one, about how to review it I mean, and it all came down to, "yeah, but not quite......."

Setting is good, a good level of moody without being too dark. Daddario is very good but you don't get to fully understand her character.

If we could give half points would've gone 6.5, it's not a 7. Quite intriguing though.

Scent of a Woman
(1992)

Yabba dabba doo
I can't believe I left it this long to finally see this movie, a thoroughly entertaining two and a half hours, a great film. So much has been written about Pacino, the tango and Ferrari scenes are brilliantly done and his speech at the school is classic, but is there a simpler, better or funnier line than his "yabba dabba doo"? I wouldn't be surprised if he ad libbed that one. If like me, you always thought you should watch this film but never actually got around to it, well jump to it, I promise you, you won't be disappointed.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
(2013)

7.3 but still underrated
My first watch in the cinema was ok, but somehow I was expecting more, what exactly, I'm not so sure. 2nd watch without the expectations was much better. 3rd watch and I now think this is an exceptional film, good story line, strong performances, the scenery, the soundtrack, it's like Indiana Jones decided to become the lead singer of The Strokes or something like that, nuts I know. A solid 8/10.

Mulan
(2020)

Great movie....
I haven't seen the original animated version but this is an excellent movie. I see there are the usual detractors on here crying greedy Disney (although I note you all rushed out to see it on day one) and there are those bemoaning the changes from the original which is fair comment, especially when you hold the original so dear, however this certainly doesn't make this version a 1/10 when you consider the basic premise is the same, the costumes, fight scenes, the scenery......

2 hours of good, solid entertainment. Loved it and highly recommend.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising
(2016)

Too many really bad reviews!
Is it moronic? Yes Is it a bad film? Er, no.....well maybe. Quirky, funny, laugh out loud in parts. We all know Seth, ha, Zac Efron: great comedy actor, and Frasier Crane's cameo, class. Come on guys, lighten up.

This Is 40
(2012)

Hey, not bad at all......
Like I said this isn't bad at all, great work from the Apatow family, and surely everyone loves a Paul Rudd film, "slappin' da bass......" But you know what? Best performance was Albert Brooks as Rudd's Dad, gotta be honest, don't really know him but great in this. I'd say defo worth a watch, 8/10

The Layover: Dublin
(2013)
Episode 6, Season 2

It's GUINNESS !
There, I've said it...... Another good episode, but where was the white pudding?
