Julie & Julia
(2009)

Love Love Love this movie!
I was amazed at how much I loved this movie. My only regret was not seeing it in theaters. But then again, I'm glad that I was able to pause the movie and explain to my fiancé how my life mirrored Julia's. As a writer, this movie was inspirational on so many levels. The reality of maintaining a successful career while holding down a successful relationship can be difficult. This movie portrayed that perfectly. I would recommend this movie to anyone with a dream, more or less a dream in the communications profession. I grew a silent love for Julie as I learned about her plight. I am definitely purchasing this movie on DVD as a keepsake to let it serve as a reminder of how beautiful; yet difficult, following your dream can be.

Battleship
(2012)

Not my Favorite, but Good.
I'm giving this movie an 8 because I got chills at the end as the older and younger navy men worked together. My father was in the Navy and so was my fiancé. That may be why it hit home for me. Otherwise, the movie could have done without Rhianna. She didn't make the movie any better. In fact, I found her quite distracting because her lines and her acting was so amateur. Now the guy who lost both his legs was inspiring. I like how he found his gusto when given the challenge to do so. The only regret is I wish that they would've explained why the aliens were targeting metal machines. I left the theater still in wonder about such an obvious question.

Men in Black³
(2012)

Great Opening!
I loved the opening of this movie more than anything. Right away the action and adventure grabs your attention and you are mesmerized by the story that is unfolding. I was quite shocked by the end of the movie, so if nothing else, it helps you understand the reason behind Agent J's existence. I love Agent K and Agent J in this movie. The special effects make for a great movie also. I saw this movie in 3-D and the characters were crystal clear and popping out of the screen. There weren't many flying objects in 3-D so you don't have to dodge flying objects. I give this movie a 9 because of that. Otherwise, I would've given this movie a perfect 10.

Think Like a Man
(2012)

Not bad; Not great. Kevin Hart made the movie.
It's not bad, but it's not great either. I personally did not support the book because it was nothing more than a marketing tool used to make Steve Harvey more money. I'm not mad at him, I'm just not in his target market.

If I didn't like movies so much, or reviewing them, I would've passed on this movie too. Surprisingly it was hilarious...thanks to the awesome little short man that goes by the name "Cedric" played by Kevin Hart. Otherwise it was an average movie about women being ruled by a book on relationships and men playing into predetermined roles.

More power to Steve Harvey for turning pages, and heads, but it's not one of my favorite movies to date. It would fit perfectly in a sleepover blockbuster night for single women.

You Again
(2010)

Better the second time around
I originally saw this movie when it came out. I was by myself in the theater and loved it. Last night, I watched the movie with Daryl and it was better the second time around.

I have to say that the characters really make this movie. I do wish that the Rock made more appearances. It shocked me the first and second time that he only made a cameo appearance. Grandma Bunny (played by Betty White) was hilarious as usual and so were all the other characters (except Georgia King played by Kristin Chenoweth...she was absolutely annoying).

The only real complaint is that they picked better music and a more appropriate (up-to-date) performance made by J.J. Clark played by Odette Yustman.

Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang
(2010)

Tried to get into it, but couldn't.
We saw the original title where the movie was based in the UK. Needless to say, the movie was absolutely horrible to us. There was no humor in the movie (at least none that we could relate to being under 30 and in the U.S.).

We couldn't watch more than 30 minutes of the movie the first night. On the second night, we decided to painfully watch the rest in an effort to give it a fair shot. That didn't pan out the way we wished. It was hopeless so we turned off the movie completely.

I didn't care for the weird way the movie decided to take place during WWII. I didn't find any humor in the supposed humorous parts such as the synchronized swimming of pigs. I didn't care for the uncle who wanted to rob his brother's family of any type of fortune for their farm. And I especially didn't find Nanny McPhee humorous in this movie.

I noticed that there's another version of this movie out there someplace. In the movie trailer there's a baby. Maybe we will give that a shot sometime soon. Prayerfully it's much better.

Contagion
(2011)

Much better than expected!!
I just saw this movie. I wish I would've seen it in the movie theaters but the advertising was poor. I really loved the plot and I am shocked that many people do not feel the same. When I saw the previews in 2011 I thought it was another stupid contamination movie with no real plot other than the world is ending, but it wasn't. I loved how the ending showed something that could really happen in society and the reasoning behind the outbreak. Maybe I can appreciate the movie because I was vegetarian for 6 years and just knowing that animals can create such devastation on humans just by consumption, it made it real for me. I would recommend this movie to anyone because it truly is a must see.

The Cabin in the Woods
(2011)

Not the average cabin movie
This movie had me guessing for a long time. At one point, I became bored as I tried to figure out if the plot were similar to that of the Hunger Games in the sense of people being placed in controlled atmospheres. In fact, I really enjoyed the whole idea of sacrificial "lambs" as a means of keeping the evil Gods at bay. Although I give this movie an 8 rating, it's merely on the fact that the director chose not to make this a typical cabin horror flick. I think much of the audience was surprised to know that there was a reason for the killings, a reason that kept us on the edge of our seats. And it kept me guessing. How did they contain all of the alien/ancient specimen but had no real means of fighting them off? That alone keeps this movie from getting a 9 rating. lol

Lockout
(2012)

Good Movie
I wouldn't put this movie on my "to buy for DVD collection" list, but I will admit that it was quite entertaining to watch. We saw this movie directly after seeing The Cabin in the Woods, and it was a breath of fresh air compared to all of the gory killing in Cabin in the Woods. I enjoyed the humorous lines of the main character Snow played by Guy Pearce. In addition, I love the twist at the end. The only real downside to this movie is the neglect to add futuristic features to everything. It's a pet peeve of mine to watch a movie that is suppose to take place in a futuristic time frame, yet the equipment, lighting, and even the weapons are historic. Just my opinion.

The Lorax
(2012)

Marketing was poor, movie was actually great.
Marketing for this movie may have hurt the box office. I took so long to see this movie because the previews/commercials didn't show the real morale behind the story. I was pleasantly surprised to see the movie promoted a green lifestyle with an emphasis on trees. In addition, there was more humor in the movie than was portrayed in the commercials. I wish the promoters would've included the cute singing fish, or the short and hilarious looking billionaire. This movie is probably a blockbuster, but it's worth seeing, and that's the great thing about it. I almost skipped seeing this movie based on the ads. Thank goodness, I often have extra time on my hands.

21 Jump Street
(2012)

Better than expected but way too long
By the end of this movie I was ready to hop out of my seat and leave the theater. The last 20 minutes or so were definitely minutes wasted. I didn't like Ice Cube's role in this movie, although I'm sure the average person would've found his lines hilarious. In terms of the plot, it was fun and creative. I absolutely love Jonah Hill. He makes me laugh and surprisingly he didn't loose his laugh-ability since he lost weight. I loved him big though, just a cutie pie and hilarious. As for the movie, he's helps make the movie better than it would've been if he weren't starring in it. I'm not just saying that because I have a slight crush on Jonah either. This is a blockbuster for sure, but it can make for a great movie night.

We the Party
(2012)

Good Movie, No Real Audience.
The movie is great for teens. It gives great concepts that I would want to teach my son or daughter. The movie touches on a variety of topics that include judging others based on appearances, establishing a great network of friends, the importance of social media on relationships, and the specialty of being a virgin. As a former middle school teacher, I saw the value in many of these lessons. Unfortunately, this movie may get bad reviews because it actually does teach a little bit of principal and morale. It's not the typical bad ass movie that we see in today's time. So it may not come across as well as the director intended. Therefore, the audience may be difficult to find in this movie. However, it doesn't stop it from being an okay film that I would recommend you buy on DVD or see if you want an okay movie night.

October Baby
(2011)

Whoa - I'm amazed at how good this movie was.
Way exceeded everything I thought before going in the theater. I saw the preview for this movie and brushed it off as another "low budget film". Boy was I shocked when tears nearly came out of my eyes on a few scenes. I laughed, I cried, I even related lots of the movie to my cousin who is adopted. It was real to life and made me think of the struggles that children must go through in order to get in touch with their true identity. I appreciate the director for bringing this young woman's story to light in a way that kept the audience's attention (or at least my attention). It's been a while since I put a movie in my DVD collection, but I will consider adding this one as a favorite.

Wrath of the Titans
(2012)

Nothing special.
This was an okay movie. I don't think it was terribly bad, but I did expect much more. The Clash of the Titans was much better in my opinion. Maybe it's because it was the first movie of it's kind that I'd ever seen. (Don't judge me lol). The Clash of the Titans kept me guessing. The Wrath of the Titans was more predictable and the graphics weren't really amazing. There was one fight scene that looked absolutely fake, the same goes for when they showed the lightening bolt. I was supposed to see this movie with my fiancé and his family on Friday, but I couldn't wait. I am glad that I went today and only paid $6 admission because it wasn't worth much more than that; especially when I expected so much more.

The Hunger Games
(2012)

Unique and Pleasing
From the moment I saw the previews I knew that this would be a movie that tickled my creative fantasy. An undisclosed place and time, weird hair and an unthinkable plot were all factors that made the movie a "To See" on the first night.

Although I won't become a die hard fan, I was pleasantly satisfied with my experience. This movie portrays some of the best obstacles that I've seen in a long while. I can appreciate that; especially in today's era of bad remakes.

I enjoyed watching the short lived romance as it played out on screen. Brilliant to include a romance and then play on the audience's emotions of that romance.

Mirror Mirror
(2012)

Better than expected.
I walked into this movie expecting another "fairy tale" movie. So I was pleasantly surprised when the plot took a turn for the unexpected. I loved how the writers used adult humor to keep audience attention. In addition, the graphics were surprisingly creative; especially when it came to the 7 dwarfs. I didn't feel like I was watching an old fable play out on the big screen. Instead, I felt that I was being told the story of Snow White for the very first time. I would recommend this movie to anyone with a sense of humor, and an appreciation for creative graphics. If you think you are going to fall asleep in this movie, think again! Mirror Mirror is a great tale for all.
