Back in the eighties the original series was a masterpiece but this if you imagine a few years after The Mona Lisa was painted and everyone praised it Da Vinci says it needs improving and draws a moustache on it people would think that he was mad, well Anthony Jay has done the equivalent. This is dreadful he did a stage version which was even worse.

Although I am willing to admit that this film is good (not excellent) it is clearly anti royal, well fair enough I suppose there are plenty of republicans in the UK, but even so I think it highly unlikely and totally unfair to pretend that the queen would be more upset over the death of a deer than over the death of Diana that was clearly included to please the republicans which this film was obviously intended.

You know the story or the emperor's new clothes, he was sold a set of imaginary clothes by some crooks and he walked around naked thinking he was fully dressed and everyone was too scared to tell him the truth and did not want to be thought of as fools so they followed like sheep, well it is the same thing here one french critic liked this film a long time after it's initial release and not wishing to be thought of as fools almost every critic have since followed like sheep. This is one of the worst films ever made it even has a scene where pterodactyls are seen flying in the back ground. Don't follow like sheep this film is awful the only reason that I have given it a rating of one star is because they do not do minuses, if they did it would be at best MINUS A THOUSAND.

I don't why people are complaining about the accents of those playing Americans whilst I admit one of them is Canadian (as is William Shatner of star trek fame and no one complains about his accent) the other one is an American so her accent is real, she is not pretending.

The film Mister Ten Per Cent WHICH WAS RELEASED FIRST has the same plot, but because Mister Ten Per Cent was BRITISH lovers of The Producers insist it is inferior, it isn't It's just British. But I will concede that it is a good film and to be fair although they have hijacked the plot the actual story line is different enough for them to get away with it, however some recognition of the earlier film should me made.

Ray Cooney,s plays are expertly written for the stage and not for the cinema, when you watch works of his such as Wife begins at forty, Not now comrade and Not now darling which were filmed as if it was on a stage and they worked very well sadly this one wasn,t, the theatrical performance was brilliant but this one does fail, it,s not too bad but it does fail to show the genius of Ray Cooney.
