Ebbie
(1995)

Not Bad
An interesting re-telling of the Dickens classic, and a cut above most Lifetime movies. The cast does a commendable job here, and the film has a nice look to it.

But there are a few really weird moments: the Ghosts of Christmas Past costumes (but a nice bonus, see below); the character of the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, who looks like Mike Hammer; and the company Christmas party (held in a department store?).

The script also glosses over how Ebbie takes over the department store, and the payoff on Christmas is somewhat undeveloped.

If you're a Carol buff fan or a huge Susan Lucci fan, it's worth a viewing, otherwise skip it.

One bonus: watching Jennifer Clement (as one of the Ghosts of Christmas Past)in a harem costume top which is little more than a bikini top.

An Unexpected Love
(2003)

A Missed Opportunity
A real missed opportunity here.

This movie has two huge flaws: first, the heroine, Kate, develops an attraction for her female boss after going through a bad marriage and a messy divorce. Naturally, we wonder if her attraction is a result of her recovering from the break-up, maybe just a phase, or does she have true feelings for her boss? The writers should have started the story about two years after her divorce.

The second flaw is that three, four characters are so anti-gay (particularly the character of her mother)that they become almost cartoonish parodies. They look absolutely foolish. This is a real cop out by the writers.

The film makers could have gotten an intelligent discussion here, but it becomes too simple, too black-and-white.

Imaginary Friend
(2012)

Predictable, but cast tries.
This film is way too predictable. It starts out with a pretty decent premise, but the viewer figures things out very early on. From then, it's just a question of how the plot will get to the inevitable ending. A psychological thriller/suspense film --which is what this trying to be--needs a lot more development and imagination to work.

The cast does give it a good shot, but needs more to work with. Ethan Embry and Paul Sorvino (In a small role) are particularly good. Lacey Chabert holds her own, too. Of course, she has several scenes requiring her to prance around in a bikini.

Overall, this film falls slightly short of a recommendation.
