Wait Till Your Father Gets Home
(1972)

My parents loved this show
We used to watch this when I was very little...maybe four or five, and I have dim memories of the theme song and some of the voices. They are good memories. As I remember it, the show "King of the Hill" kind of puts me in mind of it, with the concise wit, varying personalities and their interactions and the references to modern culture. My dad used to laugh at the neighbor, whose constant "Huh? Huh? Huh?" briefly became something of a catchphrase in the early 70s. I'd buy this in a second if they released it on DVD...why haven't they? They have everything else out there...every obscure show that was ever produced. I even saw the boxed set of "The Powers of Matthew Starr", for God's sake. They put that out, and leave "Father" in the vault? Come on!

"Hill" Rocks
I'd never even seen this show until about a year ago; I worked so much that I pretty much ignored TV overall, except for the 11 o'clock news and Leno. Then, after five years or so, my schedule changed, and I got to watch a little more tube. For the most part, there was nothing much to see. A few things I enjoyed, like Law and Order, That 70s Show, etc. Then I discovered KOTH. I liked the sharp wit and overall sweetness of the humor, the moral lessons the stories often convey and the fact that there are really no negative characters. There are some you obviously wouldn't want to emulate, like Bill and Dale, for example, and others whose behavior is questionable, but that behavior is always shown to be out of line. Even assholes like Khan and Minh Souphanousinphone and Cotton Hill are redeemed in some shows, and they're still accepted by the others, regardless, which is a good example to set. The cool thing about the show is that loyalty, friendship and family are all important bonds to the people in the show. They honestly like one another, despite their annoying qualities and the weirdness of some of them. You don't see those things all that often in TV today. It's one of the few animated shows in recent years that actually has redeeming qualities to it. It's hard to believe it sprung out of Beavis and Butthead.
