Magic Mike XXL
(2015)

Back with some more magic.
In the 2012 blockbuster, Magic Mike, In which Channing Tatum was cemented as an actor and put into the hearts of wild young ladies. But, since the director of the first film, Steven Sodenbergh is gone (although he is the director of photography), can the new director, Gregory Jacobs make some (good) magic again? Well, boy you better buckle up your seatbelt, because XXL is a hell of a ride! First of all, the flashy music and flashy camera takes help the gloomy atmosphere shine. Some of the cast members return, but it was sad to see Matthew McConaughey go away, and The Kid doesn't make a return. But Jada Pinkett Smith neatly fills Dallas' shoes (and adds heels to them). The music is the star here, be sure to catch the film in theaters, because the sound is bang on with bass loud and clear in your face, it is probably better than the sounds in Pitch Perfect 2. And that's saying something. Jacobs slowly crafts Magic Mike into a saga, a legacy, something more than a soft core male stripping porn movie. XXL is a hell of a good time, it's not awkward (for me and the men) and regardless of your gender, enjoy this incredibly fun movie.

Mad Max: Fury Road
(2015)

A masterpiece on a massive scale.
George Miller returns with a bang and takes the helm of this crazy 2hr bonkers extravaganza named Mad Max: Fury Road. First of all, the stunts and action sequences are SPECTACULAR. Tom Hardy breaths life into Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron is excellent and emotionally perfect as Furiosa. The story opens, with Immortan Joe who has young ladies as his wives, but he'll goes down when they escape the sadist's hands. Max, who has a violent past with Joe's cronies, decides to help Imperior Furiosa take the girls somewhere safe. Furiosa can't trust Max, and neither can he. So it all comes down to Joe's cronies fighting against them reaching to their destination. The movie is a bananas car chase for the runtime, as Max and Furiosa work together to fight against the evils. And then, there is Nux, a bonkers "really skin coloured" guy, who works with Joe, played well by Nicholas Hoult. The 3D really pays off, and is worth the extra ticket. The movie puts all other action movies of shame, the effects really pop out. Well, this is a definite masterpiece. One of the best movies of the year, one of the best action movies ever made and the role of Theron's life. Miller is truly a mastermind as stated clearly in the trailer. This exceeded my expectations, and will exceed yours as well. The dark style, dark comedy and the over the top characters make a return in this reboot. Must watch, and worth the extra IMAX 3D ticket.

Fast & Furious 7
(2015)

A farewell with a bang.
I saw Furious 7 at a SXSW screening. The sudden death of Paul Walker shocked his fans and the people who were setting hopes for another F&F movie. Well, James Wan and his crew managed to pull it together using CGI and stunt doubles. I have to say, it was a bigger stake here than Furious 6, which felt more bang- bang than a GOOD movie. If you are looking for little story, more car chases, stupendous action and violence and hot babes, Furious 7 is your ticket. The scenes shot in Dubai are particularly spectacular, with lush resorts, exotic cars being driven off hotel rooftops and crashing into an art gallery, ah! What wonders F7 takes you to! You may know, James Wan from Insidious and Saw, and his crazy camera tricks are highlight here. But it comes with a little compromise, the acting, Diesel feels raw, while Rodriguez feels stale and bland. Walker is great, as usual (R.I.P) Tyrese Gibson is the worst, with his "cool guy" attitude and "bad boy" cliché character. Overall, this one last trip as Torretto calls it, is refreshing, bang on and full out spectacular. Furious 7 deserves to be watched.

Insurgent
(2015)

A slower, solid, more action focused sequel....
Insurgent isn't a god awful second trip to the series, it just makes mistakes. This time the stakes are set higher, the action pumps up a notch and Ansel Elgort wipes his grin and gets in the fight. Robert Schwnetke's previous, R.I.P.D was a disaster, to make up for his bad film, Insurgent's brilliant direction. Woodley is absolutely amazing, Elgort, James and Winslet are fantastic as well. This time, the whole plot is cheesy, and filled with bad twists and turns. Divergent was a mediocre, rushed but well acted adaptation, and Insurgent keeps more of the same genes. Overall, this is a movie for fans only, I have read the book, and this is a solid adaptation if it weren't for the flaws. 6/10 ******

Spy
(2015)

Shallow, but McCarthy steals the show.
I saw Spy at a SXSW Screening. Beneath the violence and the swears, I wanted to find a FUNNY movie, but the shallow story, bland characters pull down Spy's pants, one those it can't pull up in its runtime. Melissa McCarthy is brilliantly gut punchingly awesome as Susan Cooper, an overweight, but badass spy. All the others- Jude Law, Jason "Transporter" Statham and Rose Byrne, give good performances to hold up the movie. Director Paul Feig's previous flick, Bridesmades, had better use of the comedy and themes it held. Byrne's finicky villain, is good but she wants to be a good one than a bad villain. Jude Law breaks his luck, by giving a solid performance. Transporter Statham gives an unusually good act. Overall, Paul Feig's crooked direction, the hammy story and twists pull down this film from its potential. But it is a one time watch for McCarthy fans, who will enjoy the movie only for her. 5/10 *****

Valiant Hearts: The Great War
(2014)

Make Love, Not War
Wow. Valiant Hearts is the best war video game depiction in years. It yearns for the deep, sadness that war creates and it does not exploit violence at all. You'd be surprised if this is not another Call Of Duty game or another gunning-down-people game etc. This game is different. It's artistic style promises a story full of emotion and heart, everyone should play this game- it has deep narrative and really good characters. This game takes place during the First World War, as you play as 4 different characters- and follow their story. The story has a emotional layout, so bring your tissues with you and your controller. Overall, it's an excellent game, one of the best games this year has to bring to you. Move over Farcry or Call Of Duty and let us explore the harrowing sense of War and the beauty that help can bring.
