Stranger Things
(2016)

Season 4 is insane
Whoever thought Netflix was dying is wrong. After finishing part 1 of season 4, just wow. I will definitely have to rewatch this show from the beginning to have a more accurate opinion, but season 4 is easily probably the best season. Some may not like that this season is way more dark than the other seasons (a fair comparison is imagine season 1-3 being Doctor Strange, and season 4 being Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness) but I totally dig the darker tone this time around. All in all a great watch. Still looking forward to part 2 of season 4 when it comes out, and hopefully when season 5 comes out whenever it does, it wraps this great show in a bang. If Netflix can produce more TV shows of this calibre then they got no reason to worry about going extinct.

Godzilla vs. Kong
(2021)

Don't take it seriously
If you're expecting a heavy drama or character study kind of film then skip this one. I don't know why you would expect it to be here. This is a movie about 2 giant titans battling it out. It's what was advertised and exactly what we got. Great popcorn movie to see some great spectacle action.

Zack Snyder's Justice League
(2021)

They need to continue the DCEU with Synder in charge.
I remember watching the 2017 Justice League and feeling disappointed. It had so much potential but just missed all the beats. And when I kept hearing about the Synder cut, I made sure to have no expectations. Man Of Steel was awesome. Batman V Superman was very average in that overall it was entertaining to me, but should have been awesome featuring Batman and Superman in the same movie instead of being a less exciting version of Captain America Civil War which came out the same year and followed a similar conflict. So I decided it won't hurt to give this Synder cut a try, and boy was I glad I did.

This movie gives a full origin story to Cyborg. It introduces and builds Aqua Man and Flash in this movie way more than the theatrical cut even did. The pacing just felt more relaxed here and deserving instead of the rush back to back scenes from the original.

My only complaint would be the epilogue. I don't like how it was building up for a sequel. I wish it just wrapped itself up as a standalone movie. If we do get a sequel which delves into the dream sequences, then it will have paid off from the build up since Batman V Superman. If we don't get a sequel, then the dream sequences are just teasing that doesn't deliver.

All in all, solid movie.

Tenet
(2020)

Confusing the first time, great the second time
Compared to Christopher Nolan's other big movies, Tenet wouldn't rank the highest, but it's still a great film.

The first time I watched it, for the first half of the film I was confused as to what is going on. Then you catch on and I thought I understood the overall story at the end, but still had so many questions and didn't understand the point of many scenes. I decided to rewatch it again, and now I was able to understand it and saw the genius in the story.

My main complaint with this movie, is I wish they went deeper into the lore. Inception for example, brought the idea of going into ones subconscious, and went deep into that idea. They showed how badly it can go wrong, the possibilities that present itself, the good, etc. For this movie about reversing time, they proposed some time travelling theories, but just left it at theories and didn't delve in. Those who watched it may remember when Robert Pattisons character talked about the "Grandpa effect" for example, yet they never attempted it. I would have liked to Christopher Nolan tackling some theories and "what if's" in this movie that he's known for doing in Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight, etc.

That was my only complaint. First time watching it, won't be the best watch. Second or third time, you will have a blast. I do think when viewing Christopher Nolan's past films, he goes in deeper and presents a full scope which this film could have benefited more from. Nonetheless, a great film to not be missed!

The Queen's Gambit
(2020)

Not just for chess fans
Everything about this show is done amazingly. Don't let the chess theme then you off if you are one of those rare souls who never learnt to play. This is a fantastic series that you will still enjoy. Having an interest in chess will make you enjoy some scenes even more. 10/10

Sound of Metal
(2019)

Just watch this
This is a movie about a person who is forced to lose something they find precious to them, and how they cope with it. It's about trying to accept what life throws at you. This is a universal theme all of us can relate to. The movie portrays that extremely well. Great acting by every person in this film. One of the best 2020 films I seen.

Wonder Woman 1984
(2020)

What even did I just watch...
What have they done? I was looking forward to this movie for a while. What a drop in quality from the first movie. The first Wonder Woman movie was a blast to watch. This was absolutely cringe. I felt like I was watching a cheap YouTube parody sketch. So many plot holes in the story. Why didn't anyone read the script and question why 90% of the events in the movie are happening? I was pretty much watching this movie with my hand facepalming myself for most of the movie. Only watch this if you enjoy watching bad movies ironically.

Bright
(2017)

Will Smith back at it again
Watch the trailer. If you liked what you saw, that's exactly what your going to get. I saw the trailer and thought "Ok, modern day Los Angeles cop movie, sprinkled in with fantasy elements, something about orcs and a magic wand...seems dope". After watching this movie what can I conclude we got? A modern day Los Angeles cop movie, sprinkled in with fantasy elements, something about orcs and a magic wand.

I don't know what critics thought they were getting into. Acting was great, lots of action scenes throughout, some were alright and some were shot really well, Will Smith classic jokes thrown in, and you got yourself a great time. My only complaint was I wish we had a deeper understanding of some of the characters (they try to quickly say what their motive is but it would be better if some were more fleshed out), and the movie constantly references some past historical events of this world that I wish we got to also have a deeper understanding of their history (Netflix signed on for a sequel so I'm hoping it'll dig deeper into the world).

Solid 9/10. If they added an extra 20 minutes or so to delve deeper into the history and villains I would give it a 10, but hopefully the sequel does the job.

The Punisher
(2017)

Netflix delivers another great show
Netflix is obviously not new to Marvel TV series, this is like what, the 6 or 7th season done in the past couple years? Daredevil season 1, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are generally really praised, while Iron Fist, Daredevil season 2 and The Defenders had mixed reception. Me personally, I enjoyed all of them, the only one I felt slightly let down was The Defenders because I felt Netflix were hyping it up like it was equivalent to Infinity War but instead it was just "good" and not crazy epic.

The Punisher was really great. Some complain that it didn't have enough action, but I think the action scenes were good enough. Easily the most gruesome of all the Marvel shows. Characters were all really good, I felt every actor served well and none dragged the show down. The show surprisingly gets really political, and shows the dirty side to war and how veterans usually feel after its all done. It takes a look at terrorism, the military, greed, news manipulation and propaganda.

My favourite Netflix Marvel show is still Daredevil season 1 (Wilson Fisk is still the greatest villain Netflix has shown), but The Punisher is easily second place, with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage right after. 10/10

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017)

One of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe villains
Marvel has done it once again. This movie was amazing from start to finish. This movie literally has it all. I personally enjoyed this more than the first one, due to the fact that I love when movies flesh out their characters and gives us a look at why they actually feel a certain way and what they gone through. As much as a disappointment Iron Man 3 was , I still enjoyed how Marvel were trying to make a personal drama story about Tony Stark, and that was good, its just the other story bits in the movie that were bad. Logan is another great example of fleshing out characters. This movie doesn't go to the extent of Logan, but still went to a good amount where you were watching and thought "oh now I know why Nebula is so angry...". Movie also had one of the best villains of the universe(Majority of Marvel movies have weak and forgettable villains. This one wasn't)/

Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 gets a 10/10. Cant wait to see them join Avengers 3!

Logan
(2017)

Best comic book movie after The Dark Knight!
Usually when you watch a trailer, you see some really epic stuff, but then the movie delivers like half the epic stuff (Suicide Squad had an amazing trailer, only to have a mediocre film as an example). So after seeing the Logan trailers, I thought (they look epic, but movie is probably just going to be another decent action movie..). Boy was I damn wrong. This movie has so much depth to it, lots of emotion and drama, amazing brutal fight scenes, and even sparks of comedy throughout (that typical Wolverine comedy we seen from the other X-Men movies).

There was nothing in this movie that felt wasted. Even the kid that plays X-23 was awesome. Every actor here was on point. Thank you Hugh Jackman for the amazing years playing as Wolverine. This is the perfect good bye to the character. 10/10.

La La Land
(2016)

I don't even like musicals and I loved this
For starters, I am not a big fan of the musical genre. I see the appeal, but usually when I watch a film with entire musical pieces, I just see it as cringe and dumb. There are some movies I really like that revolve around music that some may call a musical (I liked Whiplash, its not like the typical of school musical but some considered still) but usually I end up turning off the movie if it's too old school.

This movie though was super enjoyable. The main song is still stuck in my head. The dances and moments with the music didn't feel cringe or dumb at all, and in fact were actually really fun. They never felt out of place or random, it was usually a way to show off an entire scene or tell a story in a different way.

The actors, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were amazing. This is probably the best they acted in.

This isn't just a "romantic" movie, this is a movie about people trying to follow their dreams even when things are rough. This movie is a journey, one you must sit through for the 2 hours and just have a blast through.

One of my favorite movies of 2016, and definitely the best musical ever created.

A Series of Unfortunate Events
(2017)

This show is a blast
Just finished marathoning through all 8 episodes today, and that was super fun! Neil Patrick Harris was obviously the highlight of the show, as well as Mr Poe, the narrator, Sunny, oh hell pretty much every character here was portrayed well!

The comedy is always there, even when something more serious happens (like a character murdered or something) there is still some funny joke or line said that's always lightening up the mood. The visuals were great as well. Sure some of the effects seemed fake, but overall the scenarios and general cgi were pretty good, way better than most shows on television.

Ending of the season 1 was left kind of opened and unsolved, hope they pick it up for a season 2 otherwise it will suck.

At times the show felt a little dragged out and longer than it should have. Some episodes could have easily been 25 minutes but instead ran for 47 minutes and thus although were still funny, you can still feel like they just kept putting in filler content in order to feel longer.

This isn't a show to watch and expect intensity or heart felt drama. This is a show you watch if you like quick pun jokes and just something really fresh, as there's no real TV show like it.

9/10 if the series continues.

Bakemono no ko
(2015)

Almost a perfect movie.
Back in high school I used to be obsessed watching all sorts of anime. Years later I still watch the occasional episode here and there of am anime, but never fully finished any. Regardless, I decided to give this a shot.

Damn this was this amazing. This is like Karate Kid but more epic. It has comedy, action, fantasy, romance, drama, its perfect. The story is very deep, and so much happens in the 2 hours watching of the movie and is all fleshed out which was great. Lots of movies try to have lots of events and end up feeling rushed and unsatisfying. This movie did this perfectly.

There is only one complaint from me, and that's towards the ending act. It's not exclusive to this anime, but usually most anime always need some sort of "epic finishers" involving huge crisis and character transformations (think of Dragon Ball Z or Naruto). Thing is this movie without spoiling, was a very down to earth movie with fantasy elements, which was perfect, but then had to throw in some huge finisher that just sort of felt out of place for this sort of movie. It feels like the makers were like "wait a minute...this is an anime movie, people are probably expecting something over the top so let's give it to them" and just added 15 minutes of it.

Great animation, great story, very deep and heartfelt, just a final act felt sort of out of nowhere and unnecessary, but other than that, The Boy And The Beast was a phenomenal movie, definitely one of 2016 best movies.

The Magnificent Seven
(2016)

If it's a comedy action you want, look no further.
I read a description for this movie that goes "A group of bandits take over a small town, and a group of seven men decide to fight against them." That description is literally everything in the movie, no more, no less.

That's not a bad thing though. Every performance in the movie was great, Denzel Washington gives his typical "I like a good laugh but I also want to get down to business" act, while Chris Pratt gives his "I love telling jokes, but this is serious so I got to try to act like it". Action scenes where also done very well, sure some of it was off the top or cliché (characters keep walking even after getting shot 40 times) but it was still great to watch.

If you just want 2 hours of jokes, action, and a Western theme that you don't see very often anymore, this is that sort of movie. Obviously if you're looking for something more deep and Oscar worthy this ain't for you.

The Girl with All the Gifts
(2016)

Nothing new, just another zombie movie we already seen tons of
There was a time when everyone would get excited over any new zombie movie or video game being released. That craze is done now, and the only zombie related thing people are actually my invested in now is The Walking Dead and The Last Of Us 2.

The Girl With All The Gifts is no different, and is just a very dull average predictable zombie film that we all seen before. Perhaps if this was released 7 years ago it would be cool, but now it's just the same. Zombie outbreak, group of survivors , slowly they get infected, the end.

This tried to stand out from the rest, by having one of the main protagonist Melanie, a child, who is a zombie but yet can still function fully as a human. This concept on paper sounds like it might have been cool, but this movie fails to even take advantage of that. It could have been an awesome and fresh take if the movie were to take advantage of that, but instead all it did was have a very cringe scene towards the end (don't want to spoil but it was really portrayed badly). Oh well.

So that said, this movie gets a 4/10 only cause the acting by Melania was pretty good for a kid. Low budget repetitive zombie film, with an awful ending with very little action in this movie make this just a boring experience.

Underworld: Blood Wars
(2016)

Great action flick
Me my friends were originally going to see Star Wars Rogue, but got there late, and saw that Underworld was playing, so we're like meh whatever let's see. I seen them all but barely remembered anything except that it was about some vampire vs werewolf war. My friends went in with no info about any Underworld movies.

End result, it was a fun super action packed movie that had some fight moments that will make you go "OHHH SHITT", majority of all the characters were hot as hell, and in the hour and half we weren't bored once as it was just fight scene after fight scene with little moments of dialogue to further the story.

If you're looking for some in depth Oscar worthy movie, this ain't it. If you just want to grab a snack and watch some great fight scenes involving swords, guns and cgi monsters, you'll have a blast.
