The Man in the High Castle
(2015)

GET DOWN OFF YOUR HIGH CASTLE
This is a stylish but very poorly written series. The plot holes actually outnumber the plot logic.

A nice concept, well executed in terms of cinematography but the ridiculous plot holes make me frustrated and not sure how much longer I can keep watching.

I am surprised at the high ratings. 🙄

The Tick
(2001)

TICKED ME OFF
I guess I may have given this series longer to get going than the 3 less than impressive episodes that I endured. But...

I have just binged The Boys, which is exceptional and is sharing superior in all facets to this slow and amateurish effort.

Do yourself a favour, skip this and watch The Boys!

Hanna
(2019)

I HANNA MORE
Great fun. To be honest I think better than the movie cause there is character development.

Good acting, casting. Very European, as opposed to American. A very, very good thing.

Looking forward to Series 2!!

The Boys
(2019)

SUPER-B
This is one fantastic rollicking great series. Dark, dark humour and fantastic creativity.

A little like the movie Bright, it paints the non idealistic side of Super Heroes and I loved it.

Honestly, I am not an Amazon Prime member, but having watched this, I will definitely become one for Season 2!

Jack Ryan
(2018)

USA 2 BAD GUYS 0
A fun American hero beats all comers in their own sovereign back yards. It's ok, he and his mates are American so sovereignty isn't really important. They can beat up, shoot, blow up, anyone they want in other people's countries cause they believe it's in America's interests.

Ok, with that out the way, it is a great fun, action packed, far fetched, ridiculous plot holes, series that is most binge worthy!

Suspend all reason before watching tho!!

Uncut Gems
(2019)

PREDICTABLE BUT OK
Over the top, crazed plot. Seriously how stupid can a guy be? Adam Sandler plays the usual stupid character but in a dark non comedic setting. Not exactly revolutionary.

I predicted the ending about 2 thirds through, but then I guess most would. I won't spoil it for you. 😉

It's an ok movie but don't get your hopes up. This is not a diamond in the rough.

SEASON 2 DROPS MY GREAT RATING TO OK-ISH
Sad that after a great first season the writers managed to create a overly slushy, unrealistic mess.

Actually it is so ironic that the first series, set in NYC, was edgy, intelligent and stylish.

The 2nd, set in LA, is vapid, melodramatic, vacuous, and very LA. 🙄

The Farewell
(2019)

MORE THAN FAIR OR WELL
This is a really sweet but not sweet insight into Chinese family life (and death).

Nuanced, intelligent and great messaging. A fun, amusing and sensitive movie about life and preparing for death, and perhaps prolonging life.

A great little movie that is way different from your usual Hollywood fodder.

Judy
(2019)

TRAGICALLY POWERFUL
A fantastic movie that exposes Judy's life as a tragic burst of talent crushed by the entertainment industry. Used and discarded like a performing monkey that is to old to do tricks.

Rene is sensational and definitely Oscar worthy as the severely damaged performer in the final throws of her desperately sad life.

Be prepared for tears..

Judy & Punch
(2019)

PUNCH ME IN THE FACE FOR WATCHING THIS
Let's make a really really low budget movie with a terrible script, terrible acting, worse plot that has an over the top message that violence against women is bad, the masses are ignorant and.... Who the hell knows.

What a waste of time!!!

Midsommar
(2019)

MIDSLUMBERFEST
OMFG. Two and a half hours of my life wasted. Thank goodness they were on a long haul flight killing time.

Seriously, what an awfully drawn out bunch of claptrap. 20 minutes max and even then no amount of editing could make sense of this drivel.

Please avoid it at all costs.

Alibi.com
(2017)

SLAPSTICK.COM
A pretty juvenile comedy but with a few surprise laughs. Definitely better than a Sandler...

The Fifth Element
(1997)

IN MY ELEMENT!
Such a great movie. Groundbreaking on so many levels. Entertainment at its best. So stylish, fun and genius!!

Must watch!

And Then There Were None
(2015)

AND THEN FOR SOME FUN
An entertaining, well directed whodunit. Great cast. Well acted. Neat little twists.

Very stylish and fun.

Almost Famous
(2000)

ALMOST PERFECT MOVIE
This really is one of best rock movies of all time. Fantastic soundtrack. Superb cast and performances. Terrific script and great cinematography.

I felt as though I was part of a circle of close friends watching this uplifting and warm movie. So much emotion and yet not sappy.

Feel good at its best!!

Mammoth
(2009)

MAMMO...T.......HHHH......ZZZZZZZ
Wannabe Babel 2. Pretty much the same story, just told more slowly and with less interest.

I guess useful insight into the darker side of roles we take for granted particularly in a cross cultural/class context and, yet again, the possible negative impact on the lives of the children caught up in the tragedy.

Watchmen
(2019)

MUST WATCHMEN!
I was not a fan of the original movie so wasn't expecting much but...wow!

This is a seriously amazing TV series. Movie quality cinematography, sets, cast, script.

This is a rollercoaster ride of interstellar proportions. Absolutely fantastic!!

A must watch!!

Jumanji: The Next Level
(2019)

GREAT FUN ON REPEAT
Some new angles on the old story with some new gags and cool CG makes this remake a reasonable watch.

Belles familles
(2015)

PRETTY - AWFUL
Overly long French "romcom" that is neither funny nor romantic. Elderly rat-like man cheats on his gorgeous young fiance with an even more gorgeous younger daughter of his dead father's mistress.

Convoluted, miscast, ridiculous mess with some terrible acting and infantile plot.

Some gorgeous locations and stunning female cast make it pretty, but vacuous viewing

Les frères Sisters
(2018)

A DIFFERENT TAKE ON WESTERNS
Certainly a very interesting take on westerns. Great characters, script, cinematography.

A journey of redemption and brotherly friendship.

Worth a watch if you want something different.

V-Wars
(2019)

ZZZZZZZ BORES
Terrible series. Low budget, absolutely awful casting except the anti hero. The supposed hero is a weak, camp, jellyfish. OMG. So annoying. Whiny wimp.

Watch this if you are really really bored

The Gentlemen
(2019)

GENTLE-MENTAL-TAINMENT
A delight to have Guy Ritchie back to entertain with crazy arsed plots, characters and truly fantastic dialogue.

Oh, how I have missed him!

Suberb performances throughout. Hugh Grant is sensational, McConaughey great, Farrell superb, Hunnam understated.

This is a fun rollicking flick. Not to be missed.

Fighting with My Family
(2019)

NOT THE WWE-RST
An ok feelgood movie based on a true story. Really liked the movie until the final fight which I felt was forced to fit the story. The fact it was true didn't help.

That said, loved the characters and story overall.

Definitely worth the watch for something different.

Wake in Fright
(1971)

IN YA FACE, MATE!
This is a movie not intended for the faint of heart. Wow!

I now live in Australia having never wanted to come here largely as the Australia depicted here was what I expected to encounter.

This is an amazing and disturbing view into the underlying psyche of the average Aussie bloke. Granted more visceral, feral, and extreme than reality but a fantastic caricature. The overarching misogynistic, chauvinistic and masculine culture masking a deep rooted homoerotic subtext is not dissimilar to more genteel face presented by modern Australia today. Confronting.

This is definite must watch!

You Kill Me
(2007)

KILLED BY TEDIUM
An almost amusing film about alcoholism and killing. Some mildly amusing moments infrequently interspersed by long periods of tedium and nothing. Kingsley, as always, understated and solid.

Leoni, although miscast, also solid. The "chemistry" between her and Kingsley is non-existent.

A so so movie that will wile a bit of spare time if you are bored to death..
