Criss Cross
(1949)

Seminal Noir who paved to Lancaster another path in your career!!!
One of the independent movies from partnership Lancaster-Hellinger who died before the picture is done, despite all mess Lancaster goes ahead as making a favor to Hellinger's widow, having Siodmak the same of the Killers, attached by a fine screenplay Crisis Cross became a instant smashing success on box-office, Lancaster plays an obsessed divorced man who return to LA after a long time far away from there, he hesitate for a while, therefore ends up caught in the arms of his ex-wife Anna (De Carlo), he stays upset by her choice a crook as Slim (Duryea), then appears a perfect opportunity to get her back, through an armored car robbery which he is working, non-linear picture, many flashbacks coming along as in the Killer, the robbery itself is superb, he turns over the role when see his partner to be killed, the final part at hospital is disturbing and tense, when he finally realizes who Anne really are is too late, seminal noir picture to be discovered for a new generation of worldwide cinephiles, highly recommended!!

Lured
(1947)

Dull and instable, although Sanders scatter his undeniable charm!!!
Interesting Noir picture if not had Lucille Ball in the casting, she was extremely stigmatized by her comic career on "I Love Lucy) also has a little appearance of Boris Karloff on a bizarre short sequence, it's scratch the credibility of the picture grotesquely, the damages are irrevocable by now, in other hand the movie will growing slow and strongly, when reach in somewhere reliable, the it became palatable at least, having the our old acquaintance George Sanders wisely put on the cast to mislead the audience as the most probable serial killer, smart game, nevertheless the proves put on purpose on the writing desk was too obvious, maybe the real killer wasn't enough smart, also was implied a bit humoresque atmosphere that doesn't match with the Noir style properly, Ball is too puritan to the role neither, anyway all those little fragments spoils the movie too hard, whenever it happens lost the firmness for good, no return meanwhile I'm glad to see the sleak and sophisticated George Sanders in high style as always!!

Hard Times
(1975)

In-betweens, a near masterpiece, the legacy of Bronson-Hill to posterity!!!
It was on late 1982 that I saw this picture for the first time, a near masterpiece from the great director Walter Hill, on early thirties when the great depression took over the entire America, millions lost their jobs, Chaney (Bronson) arrives to try a luck at New Orleans and finding the big mouth Speed (James Coburn) a compulsive gambler, they made a deal, Speed realizes that Chaney is a gold mine, their goal is fight with Gandil's (Michael McGuire) champion Jim Henry (the bold Tessier) however they needs three thousand bucks to fight, all them are colorful characters, Chaney is introspective, soft spoken, a sort of lone wolf, Speed is a loser, liar that lives a flamboyant life style without can't afford, Poe is a literate two years doctor, smart and polite, Gandil is a rich man who hate to be reject as Chaney does, Hill introduce a long shots on many key scenes, in opening when the train arrives on station, over the above shooting on Chaney vs. Henry fight with a crowd, Hard Times is like wine how old it does better it is, the best Bronson movie ever, a near masterpiece, a true legacy of Bronson-Hill to posterity!!

Traded
(2016)

Neo western touching in a neuralgic point!!
I'd heard somewhere about the prostitution in old west, this timeless matter always was concerned as taboo subject, nobody talks about, even displaying those Saloon's girls on movies, we know where they coming from, on Traded this matter has a deeply treatment exposing how it was happened, the picture is brutal and violent offers, showing the dirtiest side of the west, bringing veteran actors as Michael Parré, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Sizemore and Tracy Adkins, the plot is about a girl who left her parent's house to find a job as waitress at Wichita, on travel she is kidnapped for a prostitution purpose, there she was traded by brass bell, his father (Michael Parré) pursues her until Wichita, he find out his real whereabout, however someone already took the train toward her final destination, Dodge City, above average production that pleased me entirely!!

Pilgrim's Progress
(1978)

Pilgrim's Progress is a wise allegory from John Bunyan, impressive literary work !!
John Bunyan's novel wrote at Baresfordshire's prison under the bridge for long eleven years, he was put in jail as heresy without a proper trial by the Church the book became a best seller, today remains his valuable literary work, John Bunyan's book influence many eggheads on the late 17th century, The Pilgrim's progress was one most challenger and influential book at it's time telling a metaphor or allegory through a suppose journey of a Pilgrim, who left the city of destruction with his heavy burden to the Celestial city, on the way he will meet with several characters as the Pliable as a name spoke by himself, the Devil disguise in many character to swerve him as Wiseman, Mr. Legality and so on, however advised by good characters as Evangelist and Goodwill, travelling through Swamps, narrow ways he reach at Jesus, after that he can left behind his heavy burden at last, now he becomes Christian, he is no longer is called Pilgrim, after others short cuts he learns that has just on way to reach to The Celestial City, the straight one, sadly the picture is too short and compress all book in just 72 minutes and didn't got pass the entire meaning of the book, aside it be an allegory is quite sure a strong subliminal message for those who get read the John Bunyan's masterpiece!!

The Magic Bow
(1946)

Niccolò Paganini the devil's violinist !!
I'm deeply upset about this fictional dramatization on real Niccoló Paganini's life, if someone is willing to make a biographic picture, is upmost importance focusi the real facts, it wasn't happened here, he never had a manager as implied on movie, never had any romance with Jeanne de Vermont and also never got a Stradivarius as wrongly exposed here , his father was his own manager, just small details are accurate as compulsive gambler and a womanizer, it's all true, Stewart Granger has a strong similarity with real character, even the sound coming from by the fantastic violinist Yehudi Menuhin, Stewart Granger never was dubbed on playing by anyone, he is enough skilled to play in the pass on the recorded music, also his posture with the violin seems perfect, the title isn't correct neither, The Magic Bow sounds that the violin was the major movie's star, instead the great virtuous Italian Paganini regarded the best and skillful violinist of all time, applying news techniques on violin, aside the fabulous performance of Stewart Granger and Cecil Parker and the marvelous Paganini's music worthwhile to see this picture!!

I'm quite sure if I had saw this trash movie on my teenage years, I'll put it as low rate, if before turn off the TV, now with mature brain it sounds an Art movie developed to provoke a reaction from the usual heterosexual status at seventies, however Waters made a grotesque picture using those hidden character as Divine, a drag Queen, that arose in the scenario in many places in the world, the storyline is absolute rubbish on purpose to impact the viewers, many critics turn down their noses for that, however the picture became Cult through the time, not for all taste of course, nevertheless is impossible disregard the Waters's talent, he made something weird really, with nasty characters, dysfunctional family, introducing stereotyped gay character, one the most impressive certainly was Auntie Ida (Edith Massy) suggesting Gater to have a homosexual relationship, simply amusing, apart all lewd lines the picture is watchable, Waters dared make it, these people really exist, a true achievement!!!

Great premise, average results, enjoyable comedy !!!
Her Alibi was a promising movie, having the Tom Magnum Selleck on leading role, an eye candy Paulina Poriskova, mystery, crime and comedy oriented, could be better, nevertheless has many holes in the screenplay, Selleck plays Phil Blackwood a successful writer over detective Peter Swift's cheaper novel, he wasn't inspired to write around four years, then prodded by his publisher he saw at a murder case where Nina Ionescu (Paulina) was charged by murder, he introduces to her as Priest, however it fails, then suggest to her as alibi on the night of the murder, since then he starts write his newest novel under Nina's character, however he ignores what's the real truth concealed behind of her, the Romanians embassy sent several agents (among them the great veteran actor Hurd Hatfield) to track down Nina's steps, many aspects displayed on the picture had a bit oddity, he was hit by arrow accidently or not, he afraid of her quite often, quite opposite on Magnum's character, he is slight presented as gay character, although the food poisoned sequence is really funny, also the horrible ending at circus scratch the picture, call my attention the marvelous song at ending credits "Falling In Love" sang by Randy Newman produced by his musical hero Jeff Lynne!!

A great little Noir extremely underrated !!!
Watching this movie last Saturday night, I realize that it was a little and modest Noir, however with an extensive mystery, seems at first sight unsolved case, a clever screenplay was the key success of the whole story, the plot is about a mid-age honest cop detective from Paris Henri Cassin (Steven Geray) a single guy who was put on forced holyday on French countryside at Saint Margot's small village, there he falling in love by a young Nanette (Micheline Cheirel) who was promised to marry with a farmer Antoine (Frank Arnold), they has the same age, instead Cassin is old by her, at engagement party Antoine appears angry promising a revenge, willing makes everything to spoils the upcoming marriage, he leaves the house with Nanette behind him trying explaining, in next day Nanette and Antoine were found death, then the local police asking to Cassin solve the murders, although all your efforts he doesn't able to reach in the killer, some conclusions going fast, Nanette was a dubious character, even loving Antoine she saw on Cassin the possibility to leaves the small boring town to live on the bright Paris, even to marry an older man, fabulous mystery Noir, without forget this picture is forerunner "Sean Connery's The Offence" and "The Eyes of Laura Mars", not too bad at all, highly underrated!!
