Keep Breathing
(2022)

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse ...
The premise and start to this survival series was great. However there is virtually no real story in the end. The endless repetitive flashbacks lose their value when overplayed. The few survival tips shown were so poorly executed it was laughable. Burning the money when surrounded by kindling, dropping all the resources as markers.

I cannot imagine the remote Canadian wilderness weather to be so benevolent, and the waters warm enough too enable the story as told.

It is such a pity, our actress was clearly doing the best they could but was left with little to work with and an unbelievable space to fill. Great scenery.

Dirty John
(2018)

Despair delivered with a Thousand Tiny Cuts
Totally binge worthy series of the impact of misogyny and mental distress resulting from lack of respect and equality in marriage and relationships. Series 1 and 2 are totally separate tales joined very briefly.

Each series is a tale of a woman, a wife, crushed and humiliated by a manipulative and dangerous spouse. Each story is unbelievably based on real events, maybe fictionalized but essentially real life. Season 1 deals with a conman who abuses everybody and everyone around him, family, friends and authorities.

Season 2 deals with a litigious divorce where a lawyer husband boxes in and destroys his spouse using the legal system as his tool.

It has been a long time since a series has created such a visceral feeling of frustration and anger at gaslighting, manipulation reducing self worth and destroying self respect. Please watch it.

The Devil's Hour
(2022)

Don't Give Up - it will finally make sense
The Devil's Hour is initially very frustrating to watch implementing so many cheap horror film party tricks loud bangs and flash backs that I was close to ditching the show. No really inspiring performances but always a hint of something better kept me hooked until finally what seems initially like just a cheap horror flick becomes worth the wait as the SciFi part of the script reveals itself very late in the game and the real twists and turns of the tale weave themselves into the story.

Here's to hoping that the series will continue and explore and expand on this theme so don't give up if the first half seems just like a typical slasher movie as there is a lot more behind the tale.

The Peripheral
(2022)

Solid SciFi carried by lead actor please bring a Season 2
The Peripheral is carried by Chloe Grace Moretz as she transitions between her digital and actual self The series struggles initially but manages to get the environment across, but it takes time, as there is much to define and explore. Some of the action scenes come across as choregraphed and lame and the potential to explore further the concept of IRL could have been expanded. Overall this series is a keeper stuffed with intriguing ideas and concepts and I really hope we are blessed with another season or more... The special effects blend well with the character of the show and the writers in general have escaped the trap of long monologues to explain difficult ideas that is invading series TV in this age.

Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon
(2021)

Great potential plus points for style
Monalisa's day out in New Orleans is a fantasy trip of light sound and music. There is not much story, as the journey is the plot.

The opening scenes in the Mental Hospital set the stage immediately and raised expectations beyond what was delivered, however watch Monalisa for the experience. For the visual show with accompanying beat and the awakening of an unknown force on a Blood Moon in the south.

There was potential for so much more, Bourbon St never looked so clean and the characters so normal. I assume budget and Covid took their toll.

Great supporting roles from Kate Hudson and son and some other quirky characters.

Not a masterpiece but a koool adventure.

Gekijôban: Okusawa wa toriatsukai chûi
(2021)

The ending makes it all worthwhile
A spy adventure with many twists.

A femme fatale spy loses her memory and ends up with her ex-partner undercover and without memory in a small Japanese village. Throughout the show one is wondering who is fooling who. Some cute side hero's appear to keep things interesting.

The Russian bad guys stepped straight off the set of a Spaghetti Western.

The movie has a TV show origin that stays with the movie but the story flows well, the food looks great, the location is wonderful, one is never sure who is fooling who. The twists in the last 5 minutes makes the whole show gain plus points. Some great action sequences and wry humor mixed in with some cheesy comic book theatrics.

Murder at Yellowstone City
(2022)

Its a Western with all the elements and a bit of Woke.
Murder at Yellowstone has it all guns, desert, gold, whisky, shoot-em-ups. Scheming, a hero, a bad guy or two, a sheriff. Ladies of ill repute, gambling and bodies falling everywhere.

Its a Western, what more did you expect or want.

It approaches spaghetti western at times but overall it hangs together so go watch it don't believe the nay sayers..

Violet
(2021)

Unique and Well put together Indie - with a message
The opening off Violet, shrinking Violet, made me cringe with a less than appealing voice over on top of the dialog but in the end it all worked and the movie is unique and very well produced and presented.

Yes it has the Indie feel probably on purpose. Wait around for th end credits and meet the crew.

It is a tale of how a young but damaged young woman found her empowerment and mojo against herself and an internal sea of self doubt and self sabotage, all while living a rather ordinary eistence.

The ARTY stuff really set the scene and worked well to highlight the various realities that were inhabiting the same space as our younf heroine picked herself up and refused to be a doormat.

Yes its an Indie, yes it's a bit Hollywood ad cheesy at times. That's what makes it work.

Go see it and you WILL be moved.

Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach
(2009)

It's Terrible that's what makes it Work.
Gary the Tennis Coach is obnoxious. The story is totally predictable and cheesy. The acting all around was atrocious with strange one liners and amateur effects thrown in. And yet I watched the show from beginning until the very end it somehow all worked and fitted together. Sure the movie will not win any prizes but it did entertain so Job Done.

It's not great it's not terrible it somehow works. It is clear from the title and players what to expect and it delivers. So if you like or hate Seann W Scott go see it, you will NOT be disappointed.

Already Gone
(2019)

Finally its gone
This story and production have few redeeming qualities. Bad behavior, wrong choices, senseless violence and an unimaginative plot. I managed to reach the end but was almost gone myself when I got there.

FBI
(2018)

It's watchable and could be engaging
Yes it's PC. Yes it's woke. Just as so many other shows like this are.

As a policing procedural drama it is engaging and worth a shot. It's probably why it has reached season 4. The writers should avoid the soap opera melodrama relationship side stories it adds so little value. It's incredible that EVERY time a suspect is spotted the STOP FBI is met with an immediate flight response from the perp nobody ever stops. The lead characters do a pretty good job of keeping it together. The supporting roles and management are left shouting at TV screens. I'm still trying to work out why I am watching it but I am. As each episode is its own standalone vignette the show provides bite sized entertainment. Give it a go.

Ambulance
(2022)

Ridiculous script impossible action sequences make for a lively show
Ambulance is just a vehicle to carry impossible action sequences from one scene to the next. It must have been fun to make this movie and stage all the action. One could almost guess what crazy combination of assault weapon, attack helicopter or open would surgery was going to proceed inside this ambulance. I enjoyed each step of the way regardless. The 2 brothers managed to keep it all connected the script didn't matter it was just an excuse or all the action. Well worth a watch.

And While We Were Here
(2012)

Unlikeable Character makes this an unlikeable film
This film had so much potential but went nowhere with an emotionless lead and shallow supporting cast.

There is little to appreciate in this tale of a self-centered married woman taking selfish decisions and doing nothing to make anyone's life any better, including her own.

Overall makes for a very unlikeable film and a couple of hours of my own life I have lost looking at it.

Crime
(2021)

Turns into a Blubbering Mess
Starts out as a gritty but emotional detective show and descends into a blubbering mess. Not a single likeable or hateable character by the finish. Endless repetitions and flashbacks that leave the viewer desperate for some substance that was never there. Not even any exciting detecting to alleviate the frustration.

My suggestion watch anything else....

Deep Water
(2022)

Best Actor - Grace Jenkins
Interesting thriller leaving you wondering who's doing what to who, and who knows what throughout the movie. However, although just a supporting actress the young Grace Jenkins performance is wonderful and for me steals the show from the slightly catatonic main stars.

The story is very slow to develop so have some viewing patience when watching this and enjoy.

Moonfall
(2022)

First you need a believable storyline
Moonfall has every imaginable blockbuster earth destroying element all jumbled together with a story line that is so unbeleivable it is offfensive.

If you want to see a space shuttle submarining through a tsunami then this is the show for you. It is such a pity that all this enormous human effort is spent to produce drivel like this.

There were so many potentially wonderful ideas mashed together with cheesy dialogue and unrealistic physics. I don't buy that this is the genre. It can be done well, Moonfall fails to deliver.

Gold
(2022)

Amazing Outback setting, meaningless story, terrible music
Tough one to sit through to the end a lost opportunity for something better in a Pandemic Flick. The storyline is meaningless, the scenery and desolation is fantastic. The continuous groaning of the lead actor in the desert wind is annoying. Everything was marginally improved by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in the closing song, made the whole show worth watching, allowed me to swallow the dry grit of disgust at the rest of the story. Not sure it even rates - marginally entertaining.

Words on Bathroom Walls
(2020)

Delivers a strong message just not deep enouugh
Words shows clearly the stigma that mental illness has in todays society, despite the vast numbers of people seeking counseling of some form or other. However it trivialises the complexity of paranoia allowing the lead actor to come to grips with his own maladies through strength of will and self realisation. A captivating performance with some meaningful but light hearted theatricals to demonstrare the differing realities at play and the harshness of institutions when dealing with people and risk. The performance would have been much stronger if the feel good Hollywood ending was a lot darker.

Brick Mansions
(2014)

Terrible stupid story but great Parkour and Driving Action
It is clear this creation was never supposed to win any awards for intelligent script or believable story. But who cares. Separating awesome Parkour and Stunt action with some gibberish is a fun way to spend an hour or so. The women get into it as much as the men. Looks like the movie was filmed in a paintball set creating wonderfful opportunities for stunts. The huge missile with 5 mile radius capped of the inventiveness of the script so well, as does having a suitable hole to handcuff the heroine onto. All in all an enoyable action flick I might even watch it again one day.

Nine Perfect Strangers
(2021)

Under rated show that deserves more attention.
Probably worth to block out a weekend and binge watch this show if you can. The theme unravels slowly the plot and the series are in line with the psychedelics used by the characters; what others see as weakness is actually the strength. The last 2 minute Hollywood ending was un-necessary and cheapens the message and artistry of the show to please the audience. It is interesting to see Mellissa Mc. In a semidramatic role she made it work.

House of Glass
(2021)

Unrealistic and Overly Dramatic
There was a good potential in this plot but the delivery was so unbelievable and manufactured it becomes frustrating to watch. The ending does not come as a surprise but more as a relief from the torture off the writers trying to keep it going. I would mot recommend this to those looking or a thouught provoking indie thriller it's not.

Silent Night
(2021)

MisClassified and underrated
Silent night is not a horror nor a comedy. It is a very well written drama as the real story and situation emerges from the Christmas festivities one can only wonder how I would react in the same situation. One of the best films I've seen in 2021.

Thorp
(2020)

Thorp is Cute
Blahblahbla....... adfinitum... Could write more but it is not necessary. Watch Thorp, the team pull it off, it will make you feel better. Nothing more needs to be said.

Hide and Seek
(2005)

Too many cheap tricks
The premise for the story and the cast are top of the class. Dakota Fanning in particular gives the movie its strength and power. The director has decided to liven things up continously with so many cheap tricks, mainly with sound creating suspense with exaggerated door lock clicks and changes in volume. It is such a pity as it distracts from what should have been a powerful psychological thriller and turns it into a cheap horror flick.

A Crooked Somebody
(2017)

So many bad decisions
This one will keep you hooked. There are no good guys and bad guys just people making the wrong decisions and trying to fake an angle. Well worth watching for the story.
