Roar: The Woman Who Was Fed by a Duck
(2022)
Episode 5, Season 1

Merritt Wever is amazing but
I get the metaphor but this episode went way too far. I was prepared for a less visual experience of maybe the duck's beak but the scene on the floor disgusted me beyond anything I've ever watched.

The entire series seems like a modern day Twilight Zone or a Stephen King novella.

Hollywood
(2020)

Surprisingly good after the shock factor
The first few episodes are very daring and shocking but after you get past that (doesn't bother me) the future message of equality is ... well, it gave me goosebumps. It's very good. Although I don't like that actor from Glee. I think that was poorly cast.

Goliath
(2016)

Why 9 instead of 10?
Firstly, the acting is superb. I saw a whole new light on Billy Bob Thorton. I have never seen his appeal until this show. I now get why women fall for him. He plays an amazing character. He's sexy, smart, kind, thoughtful, direct, charming... I could go on and on. The only draw back is it does drag on a bit in a few episodes. Especially season 2

An Invisible Sign
(2010)

Very slow to start
The movie ends well and of course, on a happy note. I found myself dreading watching by 20 minutes into it. However, my 11 year old daughter loved it from the beginning.

Ford v Ferrari
(2019)

Bale at his best!
I don't care about the historical accuracy. I'm not a big racing fan. I saw this movie at the request of spending a birthday with family. WOW. Bale is beyond amazing. Damon is excellent but Bale had a better character to portray. If he doesn't win an Oscar, he's been robbed. This movie is not what you expect and it's superb.

Unbelievable
(2019)

Unstoppable
Wow. I was drawn in by Toni Collette but Merritt Wever is a show stealer. I didn't expect much after her character on Nurse Jackie. It was well performed but her performance in Unbelievable is well, unbelievable. This story is gut wrenching. The victim shaming is again, unbelievable. Maureen's story made me pause several times to wipe tears away. Colette is, as always, amazing. Wever is an overlooked, under appreciated actress. Watch episode one and you will not be able to stop watching.

Euphoria
(2019)

Raw and shocking
9 out of 10 only because it's almost obviously shocking for shock value. But don't kid yourself, this is very real. Kids are doing this these days. Want to find out for yourself? Befriend you teens friends. Let them chat while you pretend not to listen.

Moving on, Zendaya is fabulous. Beyond fabulous. So is her sister. It's a semi-unique story. Teenage angst will never end, it just becomes grittier.

Christina on the Coast
(2019)

Dragging down the HGTV image
This show should be on E TV not HGTV. She's more a decorator than designer and relies on other professionals to provide common sense decor. This is revolting to watch.

Beat Shazam
(2017)

Shameless self-promotion
Did Jamie Foxx take this job just to get his daughter a job? Calling her a DJ is a stretch. She literally just presses the "play" button. I would rather see guest DJ's that are actually DJs. Corrine ruins this otherwise fun show.

Gone
(2017)

Above and beyond other crime shows
I was first drawn to the show because I'm a huge fan of the author, Chelsea Cain, and the book this based upon, One Kick. Chris Noth sealed the deal. Danny Pino is a huge bonus. Tracie Thoms is always good. Every episode is edge of the seat. Most of all, it's excellent that they stick to the basic plot line of the book.

I was disappointed that it was released in the UK earlier. I waited a year to watch this show!

The Handmaid's Tale
(2017)

Can't miss show! It's what you will think about until you see the next episode.
Frankly, I recommend bingeing on this show when the season is nearly over because your wait time for the new season will seem dramatically less (all though it isn't any shorter). Waiting for season 2 seemed like a decade!

This show is sort of sci-fi but only in a way that Orwell's 1984 was. It's not a Jules Verne/Star Trek/Star Was futuristic sci-fi. It's a very foreseeable sci-fi. As the quality of life depreciated due to self-imposed living conditions and social changes people began splintering, revolting and then ultimately controlling each other. The continuous reference to biblical life (not a spoiler -- several handmaids are prominent in the Bible) and the position/role the Handmaids play is probably very similar.

Ultimately, it's the ongoing saga of good versus evil; doing what's socially expected versus what's morally correct ... it's the drama, the dialogue, the characters, the scene settings, the writing, the acting and the suspense that ropes you in.

Moss once again commands a show with acting that is top notch. What I like about her is she doesn't play the same style of character in her roles. Her body language, speech patterns, voice tones, facial expressions are always fresh.

Bonus: We get to see Samira Wiley with her awesome spunk yet depth. Joseph Fiennes - well, can he do anything wrong?? Alexis Bledel is gritty but kind which is a hard combo to pull off. Yvonne Strahovski is a newcomer for me and her ability to play two different personalities is a direct reflection of their society.

Split
(2016)

Surprising thriller, a little bit theatrical acting
Like all Shyamalan movies, you can expect a twist ending. I have to say, I did expect that all of the girls would survive, despite being referred to as "food" so I took the bait there (no pun intended).

McAvoy was incredibly diverse, which is actually the part I think was a bit over acting - almost spoofish. Barry was .... well don't know how Barry was because it was the other personality impersonating Barry. Hedwig was a bit off maturity level for a 10 year old. But then again, how does one exaggerate multiple personalities? Is it really possible to "over act?" In all, it is one of my favorite Shyamalan movies and I'm not a devoted fan of his.
