Helter Skelter
(2004)

INCOMPOTENT DIRECTOR: COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT BETTER
The problem with this film is the director. He blew it, big time. When i first heard they were making this film i was exited and waited a long time to see it. And now that i have watched it, Man ! what a disappointment. Why a re make, why not just call it "the family" or something like that. What a shame, this could have been a great film. What a stupid, stupid director.

Jeremy Davis is so wrong for this part and OMG Bruno Kirby, how can that man get a job as an actor. He is terrible. The girl who plays Pat Krenwinel looks 35 when in real life the girls were around 20. All the Manson people look like they are from an Aron Spelling show. The Manson girls did not wear make-up + it has been well documented that the killers were wearing all black clothes on the night of the murders and the girls were barefoot. The fake bloodstains on they're clothes. Sharon Tate never asked Susan Atkins to cut the baby out. That is just silly.

Also Clea Duvall was wrong for the part of Linda Kasabian. Why couldn't they just get a blond actress with long hair in stead of giving her that hideous wig. I don't get it she's not that great. Girl who plays Sadie Atkins goes over the top and we barely see Van Houten. The dialog is so silly and stupid. I could go on and on,,,,,,only stupidity and greed explain this production.

This is such a shame. With the right director and the right cast this could bee a great film for the big screen but that will not happen now after Mr Gray blew it. The good things about this film are that the look of this production is a step up from the old one and a very few factual things like I noticed the girl who plays Susan Atkins is wearing identical dress at the grand jury as in old archive footage i have seen of her, but that's about it

The Manson Family
(1997)

A CAGE RATTLING TRASH-FEST,,,,,,
After I watched The Manson Family, I was just shocked. I felt as i had been raped or something. The film builds up to this paranoia and madness and explodes in your face. Visually the film is great, almost stunning, it has this dreamy/trippy look. The violence is so brutal and at times you have a hard time watching.

The only bad thing i can say about it is meaby the low budget, it really shows and some of the actors are a bit amateurish. But i liked the raw look of the film and i think it's a great idea building the story in this documentary form. There was one thing that was just terrible, the fake afro wigs,,,,

It was also a good idea to show more Manson's followers. They are the one's that killed these people. That is more interesting. I'm kind of tired of Manson himself.

It really shows that Jim VanBebber is a good director and could become dangerous if given a real budget...GREAT FILM but will probably leave plenty of people outraged, shocked or simply bored,,,,,

Helter Skelter
(1976)

THE LOOK IS VERY DATED
I first saw this TV movie in the mid 90's and i was just shocked to hear that this was a true story, tough i had heard of Roman Polinski and seen some of his films,I did'nt know that his wife had been killed with such brutality and viciousness. The scene with Susan "Sadie" Atkins where she's bragging about the murders to her jailhouse friend, I just could not get it out of my head, she was so f***** up, this was just so freaky. This got my interest in the Manson family and the Tate-Labianca murders started and I've seen the film 3-4 times since then. But there were just so many things unanswered so i bought the book which goes a lot deeper into this very complex case and is a lot better than the film, which is usually the case when films are made after a book. The movie does a pretty good job getting in the enormous amount of material but a lot of things got left out. The murders are not played out, the film starts the morning after which i think is very effective. But the victims are totally ignored and their families and we don't go very deep into the "family" I would have like'd to see more dept in the characters of Manson and the girls and we hardly see Tex Watson, some scenes are are almost silly and not all the acting is good but i think Steve Railsback who plays Manson is very convincing, you really buy that he is manson and Nancy Wolfe who is Susan Atkins is just great, a total sicko. What irritates me a lot in this film is the look of it is sooooo dated, very bad late 70's style with ratty hair and terrible clothes but in reality this happened in the late 60's, i would have like'd to see them get the look right ( that went dead wrong in the new re-make also). I would also have like'd to see more people and spectators in the courtroom scenes, this was the trial of the century with a crowded courtroom but in the film we see Bugliosi's wife and a few other people, there are many little things like that i dislike about the film cause they could have done this a lot better. But most of the courtroom drama is pretty well played out. This movie is far from being perfect but i think it does a very good job considering that it's a TV movie from 1976 and they did a good job keeping to the facts of the book. But this great but sad story has yet too be produced for the big screen and i think with the right director and the right approach it could be a great movie but it's also easy to f,,, it up. In the meantime we have this production from'76 and the new 2004 version directed by John Gray,"Manson" a documentary which gets very close to the truth and we have the ultra violent and gory Jim Van Bebbers "The Manson Family".

I would recommend too watch all these if you are interested in this case..........have fun

Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens
(1979)

visually stunning
i really liked this film, having seen Up, Supervixens, Beyond the valley of the dolls and 2 other which names i can't remember. I thought the film was very funny and i noticed that the lines that the narrator speaks i had heard before it was sampled in a house-track witch i had heard a couple of years ago. I thought the first woman was great and liked the way she dance'd before she went in the coffin. I like'd this whole 70's look and style of the film and the lighting and all these colours and how they played together, it was just visually stunning. The only thing that bothered me was that everybody was always balling and it did get a bit to much. The black woman was really scary and just ugly. But i thought Kitten was great. I read somewhere that she's russ's wife. She was great and horny as hell. I think this was russ meyer's last fil, i'd give it 6-7 of 10. not as good as Up witch is great and i give 8-9

Up!
(1976)

very funny !
I just watched Russ Meyer's up yesterday and i thought it was really funny. I had seen supervixens which is not as good and beneath the valley of the dolls, which i thought was corny. But up has beautiful photography and i like this whole style, some scenes are really funny and violent and i was surprised to see the actresses act OK. I have heard Russ Meyer used a lot of strippers and go-go girls from that time and with big natural breasts, this is before silicon. And i thought Kitten was very funny, talking between scenes and doing these ridiculous go-go steps and screaming like she's coming. Did you know that Kitten was Russ's wife in the 70's....

Up is just brilliantly entertaining......up ..up and away
