The Queen's Gambit
(2020)

What an incredible Netflix original!
Every now and then, Netflix comes out of nowhere and releases a gem of a show that probably only a fraction will even notice.

The Queen's Gambit is such a show. I stumbled upon this show a few days ago by chance, and had absolutely zero expectations about the show. Now, a couple of days later I finished it and I'm left absolutely amazed by this show. The first episode wasn't the strongest, but it was interesting enough to keep me going and it just kept getting better with each episode.

The performances are very genuine and real, the writing is strong, the characters are unique and interesting in their own way and the overall production value is impressive. I highly recommend giving this show a watch. Even if you're not interested in chess (I sure wasn't!) it's unexpectedly good either way, because it's about so much more than chess.

Well done Netflix!

Skam
(2015)

A very realistic depiction of today's youth!
Skam certainly makes me relive my teenage years all over again. Usually I'm not really into high school shows, but this is not your average high school drama at all! In fact, it actually feels more like you're watching a documentary rather than a fictional show, and that's exactly why Skam stands out from the rest. Every character is unique and you can definitely relate to their personalities and problems. You can even recognize yourself and your friends in many of the characters.

What makes Skam stand out even more though, is the way its characters interact with the viewers. They're not just actors and actresses playing a role. They "become" the characters so to say. The show runners have done this by creating Instagram and Facebook accounts for every character, as well as posting screen dumps from text messages between the characters on the shows official website. Combining this social media aspect with the show adds something unique, that I've never seen before, hence making Skam feel much more real.

Skam doesn't try to be overly dramatic nor does it try to be picture perfect. It's the perfect combination of both and it manages to stay this way all the way through. I've already binged through season 1 and 2 in no time, and I can't wait to watch more of this fantastic show! If you want to feel 16 again, I would definitely recommend this show!

Good job Norway!

Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter
(2016)
Episode 10, Season 6

Beyond words!
Game of Thrones has truly outdone itself this time, and has delivered what you would best describe as the season finale of the century, proving once again that Game of Thrones is the most intriguing TV show ever made!

In past season finales, the story has usually reached its climax around episode 9, whereas the season finale more or less wraps things up in a slightly toned down and less dramatic way, but wow were we in for a surprise!

Not only is this one of the most visually stunning episode I've ever seen, but it is also perhaps the most satisfying cliffhanger you could ever imagine (TWD take notice!). Everything that has been build up since the very beginning of the entire show was neatly wrapped up in this masterpiece of a finale. From the long- awaited reveal of Jon's real parentage, Arya's revenge on the Freys to Daenerys finally setting sail for Westeros.

Both fans and fan-favorite characters got exactly what they wanted, thus making "The Winds of Winter" the perfect way to wrap up season 6 and leave fans beyond excited for season 7!

Utopia
(2013)

The best TV show you've probably never heard of!
Let me just say this right from the start; Utopia is a masterpiece! Not only is this one of the most intense and twisted shows I've ever seen, it's also absolutely beautiful! The cinematography alone left me in awe and don't even get me started on the soundtrack! This is not your typical TV show. In fact it's a whole lot more than just a TV show. It's an artwork that is being unfolded in front of your very eyes.

The cast and their on screen dynamic is especially what makes this series so incredibly good. You have a lovely mismatch of so many different and perhaps a little odd but great characters, that just fit perfectly together. There's also plenty of humour, swearing and loads of "what the hell did I just watch?" moments, that just makes this even more enjoyable.

This show is dark. Really dark in fact, and the amount of WTF moments and plot twists are enough to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire series.

There's only one major problem with this show: It got cancelled! After just 2 seasons, Channel 4 unfortunately had to pull the plug on this gem of a series, which is such a shame, and while it might remain one of the most underrated TV shows in newer time, you will certainly never find a show quite like this again.

So, once and for all; do yourself a favour, and watch this masterpiece!

The Walking Dead: Last Day on Earth
(2016)
Episode 16, Season 6

Might not be the finale we had wished for but..
Don't get me wrong. This is not a bad episode, at all! Yes, there is a major cliffhanger that screwed up the ending to this season big time, but everything leading up to this very moment was absolutely great. At this point of the story, Rick and the group think they are practically invincible. Rick believes he has conquered this world, and that his group are superior to what ever will happen, but from the very start of this episode we know that the Saviors are going to put an end to all of this and turn their world upside down.

On another note, this episode probably have some of the best acting of the whole series. The way Andrew Lincoln and co. acted out this completely and utterly hopeless situation was done to perfection, and the last minutes of the finale especially shows that. To see such a ruthless and "battle hardened" group such as Rick's being completely torn apart by someone far more brutal just shows that no one is safe in the hands of Negan and the Saviors, and that is perhaps the worst part. We know for certain, that no one is safe this time. There's no "deal" to make and certainly no dumpster to crawl under. As much as this episode is about the group finally confronting Negan and the Saviors, it's just as much about a broken man, seeing how everything he has build and worked for is being ripped apart in front of his very eyes. The whole build up from driving around in circles (with the Saviors' obstacles getting worse by every turn) the whistling from hundreds of Saviors surrounding them to the big Negan reveal was perfectly done, and you could really feel the tension as they were completely and utterly surrounded. The cliffhanger, however, unfortunately ruined an otherwise really tense and dramatic episode.
