Manta, Manta - Zwoter Teil
(2023)

not as bad as they say
Based on the bad reviews i expected the worst movie. Well, its certaintly not a good movie, but not as bad as they all say. It got some heart for sure. The actors seemed to have a lot of fun doing the movie. The story itself is pretty thin. They repeat some stuff from the first movie but that also nothing unusual. I would say you get your typical Till Schweiger movie. So if you are a fan of him or a fan of the first movie, go and check this out! Everyone else... just don't expect anything great... just a simple mediocre comedy and enjoy the silly ride. I would rate the movie a 5.5. Thats a fair rating it you are a german. Outside germany this movie might be more like a 4.5.

Oppenheimer
(2023)

Not sure what i feel... bored?
In terms of film making, everything was right. Great acting. Great visuals. Great everything. And yet i was bored and the movie just took too long. Most of the movie felt like watching a narrative. Lots of talking, not much interesting stuff to see. Lots of patriotism. A lot of anti communism (was it really that bad back then?). And of course a lot of the usual "what have we done?". So the moral aspect also played a role here. Perfectly visualized but still... kinda boring. I really feel like this movie doesn't live up to the hype. My rating would be something like a 6.5 maybe. Its okay to watch it once but i don't think i will every watch it again. The current rating on imdb is way too high.

Uncharted
(2022)

better than expected
After watching the short film with Nathan Fillion (which was awesome) i seriously doubted this one since Holland is a bit too young for the Role. He still looks like a boy while Nathan Fillion really looked like the real Nathan Drake. But he is in his 50s now so it won't make much sense any more to cast him for this movie. So how well did Holland in his role? Well, actually not too bad. He still looks a little too young but it kind makes sense since he's at the beginning of his journey. It they are planning to make sequels then Holland might eventually fit really well into his role. And if Mark Walberg grows a mustache we might finally get his characters real look eventually. So there is actually a lot of potential for future sequels here. And i really want to see a sequel even though this movie was slightly above mediocre. I think they missed a lot of potential here and could have done a better job at times. But its still very entertaining and the only reason why i didn't give it a 7 rating is because i don't think i want to watch this movie a second time. I rather play all the games again :-) so good movie but not great. Yet potential for sequels :-)

Family Switch
(2023)

solid but nothing new
Its pretty much another freaky friday movie. Just multiple switches at once. Its funny and entertaining but there is really nothing new to this story. I gave it a 6 which fair in my opinion. The only reason its a 5.8 at the moment is because the story has been done so many times. Otherwise it might be around 6.5 maybe. The actors work nice together. Easy entertainment for the whole family. One criticism would be that many situations are a little over the top. No way those would turn out the way they did. Also most of the stuff with the baby was a little too much. I think kids will still laugh here but a an adult its just too silly.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
(2023)

Lot of fun. pretty good
This movie was surprisingly good. And i think what hindered its success was that we don't trust Hollywood any more. Also those other dungeons & dragons movies were very bad too. So bad predecessors plus no trust in Hollywood means not a lot of success. But it deserved more. At least more than many marvel movies who reached 1B. This movie doesn't take itself too serious. It pretty much like a game... a group of people go on a quest, have a great adventure and save the world. Around those lines :-) you got a great villain here, fun, scary moment, betrayal, despair, hope. Surprise. They really looked at the details to make this a pretty good movie. Of course if you are not into fantasy this might not be for you after all. But if you like role playing video games or fantasy you should rally check this out.

The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir
(2018)

lighthearted love story with a detour
This movie has a simple story to tell. Its a love story that takes a unexpected detour. It has a lot of heart. Good actors. Its not a necessarily an awesome movie but its so refreshing to see something completely free of any woke nonsense. And isn't it sad to point this out? The movie really does focus on the story, the people, their feelings. Its doesn't want to teach us anything except about love :-) all characters are very sympathetic. There is nothing bad to tell about this movie. But it might not be for everyone. Compared to american movies it can be slower at times. The humor is more subtle. And it got some Bollywood elements :-) i enjoyed it a lot. A good romcom.

Killing Gunther
(2017)

underrated and wrong advertising
Don't get me wrong. This ain't a masterpiece. But its far better than its score. Its a fun ride of a couple of people trying to kill Gunther. The movie is done in a found footage style. So people are talking directly into the camera and stuff. The comedy is okay. Its ridiculous at times. The few times they used CGI... not great. It was obviously a low budget production. And Arnold Schwarzenegger was probably having a lot of fun making this movie too. But he was barely in it! Not as much as you might think from the posters and advertising. That might be a part why people dislike the movie. You think its a Schwarzenegger movie but actually its not. Its just a fun movie about some funny assassins :-) so don't take this movie too serious. Its really meant to be a fun ride. Nothing more.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City
(2021)

starts promising and then goes downhill fast
It starts to introduce the characters we love. So far so good. Then they continue with stupid dialogue and emotionless interactions between siblings who haven seen each other for years. Now we know that we got some bad writing going on here. Then they also made a fool of a loved male character. At least he got some "character development" going on. He goes from fool to hero within hours... but not in a believable way. The actors are a mix between bad, good, and mediocre. Could be worse.

After a while the whole thing starts to feel like they took the cutscenes from the game and cut them all together. Something is missing between some scenes. If you don't know the game you might have a hard time to follow whats going on here. Its a real mess at times. They always jump from one situation into another. And every time its a situation you know from the games with some changes to make it less exiting and more simple. Also some important enemies are left out. Probably because the production was a cheap one.

It was probably a bad idea to try and make a single movie from two games. The should have focused on a single game and really try to go deep with the characters instead of staying so superficial the whole time. Making resident evil into a movie is always a bad idea. The best format would be a tv show with maybe 5 to 8 episodes for each game.

It you loved the games you will like some scenes of the movie. But if you don't know the games at all you won't like this movie because its just such a mess overall.

The Batman
(2022)

better than expected
Took me a while to actually watch it. Never had the urge to watch another batman since that "DCU" was introduced. I love the Burton movies and also the Dark Knight Trilogy. But since superhero movies are everywhere i tend to ignore them all. But batman is my all time favorite superhero so it was inevitable. The movie starts pretty good. It goes right into the story and world building. No "origin" story or anything. Thats actually a good thing since everyone knows who batman is anyway including all villains. This batman does a lot of detective stuff. I liked that but its not always incredibly exciting. The visuals were great. Good music. Great actors. Most were really good. But i felt like this movie had a pacing problem. At times is was a little slow and boring. You really felt that its 2.5 hours long. Too long for my taste. Unfortunately it was the last 30-45 min that have gotten really good so you are already like hoping its over soon and then there comes a twist and 30 good mins of stuff. I guess if they put in more work into the writing the next movie could be even better. So i have high hopes for that. One thing i didn't like much was the bat mobile. Didn't like it a bit. Maybe they could destroy it at the beginning of the next movie and replace it with something more stylish?

In the end the movie is a 7.5 for me. If it was 20min shorter it could have been a solid 8.

When We First Met
(2018)

nice romcom without edges
I thought it was time for another romcom. There aren't many romcoms any more so i watched it and... well... its nice. I don't have anything bad so say about the movie but then again nothing crazy good is happening. While its supposed to be a comedy i didn't laugh a lot. You smile every now and then a little but no lols. The story follows your typical romcom kind of story. About 10 minutes in you already know where this is going and how its going to end. But thats okay. Its a romcom after all what did you expect? :-) giving it a 7 would be too high. A 6 is solid here. If you want to watch a romcom that doesn't offend no one... this is the one for you :-)

M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder
(1931)

one of the few really old movies still worth watching
Back in the 30s this must have been a true masterpiece. And it still is. But after almost 100 years the way movies are structured and made has changed a lot. Watching this movie today feels like watching an "art movie" that wants to try something new. You won't find any of todays tropes here which is a good thing. And if you want to give it a try you should know that the first 30 minutes might drag a little since we are used to get on with the whole story quickly. But after a while you keep watching and enjoy this movie. This is one of the few old classics that are still worth watching. Also the acting of Peter Lorre was incredibly good. Most other actors were pretty good too. Sometimes a scene felt like you watch a theater play. But thats just the ways they made movies back then. Overall you should really give this a try.

Watch Dogs 2
(2016)

Not worth it
To be fair i only played for maybe 4 hours. So maybe its getting better later in the game. But its really just the same stuff over and over again. Gameplay is like in the first game. So far so good. But even the first game was very repetitive. You walk around and hack NPC phones and pretty much anything that has ctOS installed. You follow the instructions of your mission to hack something and then you do it again for hours. And its not really fun. The characters are not interesting. Storywise there is not much going on so far. Very early you get a mission to steal 10M! You dontate that money, sounds fine... but why not fund your "operation"? I still have to steal little sums by phone from normal people to buy stuff? Also i'm supposed to be a hacker. But i have a gun! I can pretty much shoot every NPC and go through all levels no problem. So you are actually just a villain who thinks he is above the law? I think a lot is wrong with the game in this form. Overall it doesn't pull me into the game and there are so many other better games out there so don't worry if you skip that one.

The Last of Us: Part II
(2020)

Great Sequel! An emotional rollercoaster
Playing the first Part made an impression on me. Right from the start they pull you into the story and you really care for Joel and Ellie the whole game. So of course you decided to save Ellie and your actions lead to the events of the sequel. Again the game pulls us in to be invested in those characters. But there is a twist right in the middle of the game that many people wont like. At least at first you will hate it but you will eventually accept it and understand. The lines between good and evil are very much blurred in this game. But i'm not sure if i like whats happening to some of the characters and how they were handled in the game. The story itself is slightly too long. Around the middle when i was expecting the game to end soon, something unexpected was happening and you realise it was only half of the game yet. And right there most people will have a hard time for a while. And the game reaches a deep point where you have to force yourself to keep going for at least an hour until it starts to become interesting again and you wonder how things continue. And this is the part that really pulls the game down from a 10 for the first game to a solid 8 for the sequel. Overall the game really does a number on Ellie and the players. So in that regard it really worked perfectly. Still you will hate many Elements in it and i think most of us might have wanted a totally different Storyline.

Young Sheldon
(2017)

Surprisingly good
Took me five years to finally watch this show. I never thought it could be any good compared to the big bang theory. But i thought it won't hurt to give it a try. And to my surprise the show is actually pretty good. The show is essentially about Family. Well, Sheldon Cooper's family. It's about growing up as a boy genius with his "normal" siblings, his parents, friends and grandma. Sounds a lot like the plot for "Malcom in the middle" but the characters are very different and very well cast. Especially Anni Potts is great as his grandma. Each characters has unique traits and watching them interacting with each other really is a lot of fun.

That '90s Show
(2023)

needs some improvements but give it a try!
The original characters are still great. Unfortunately they are only in it for one or two episodes except the parents of course who are grandparents now :-) now the granddaughter is there for the summer and she finds new friends how replace the original cast as the new "kids". And those kids are alright. Might need a couple of episodes but you start liking them eventually. The only problem is they cannot live up to the original cast. They are not bad but some of them can be slightly annoying at times. All can be fixed in writing or better acting. So the show got potential to become a hit. Right now its a 7/10 for me.

The Witcher: Blood Origin
(2022)

not that bad actually
If you don't know any witcher lore like me then you might enjoy this mini show. Its not as bad as they say. Unfortunately is not too great either. Cgi isn't very good. Acting is acceptable. Story is mediocre. Some characters were fun while others were boring. In general the whole thing feels like it was thrown together fast to make "something". If they put much more work into the story this had potential. But there are so many movies and shows with unused potential these days. If you don't know what to watch and you are into fantasy, give it a try. Its only 4 episodes so its over pretty fast :-)

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
(2022)

surprisingly good and very stylish
The only reason i've seen this was because my children wanted to go. So i agreed. I didn't expect something good since most sequels are inferior to their predecessors and the first movie wasn't that great to begin with. So i was pleasantly surprised that this was a really good movie actually! Far better than the first one. Better story, more heart, and an amazing visual style! Yes! Even though its rendered it has a certain style to it that most visible in action scenes. But even in normal scenes it looks like a mix of rendering and painting. So visually there was nothing to complain. Almost perfect.

The story was also pretty good. It was completely free of woke elements and in its core it did focus on friendship and family. And it also had a real evil villain. There was even some great character development. Everything about the movie felt good. The best animation movie this year!

De Familie Claus
(2020)

Wanna get sad on christmas eve? look no further!
The whole movie is just sad. The whole music is giving you a vibe that you are almost going to cry. Then there is this sad family that copes with loss and a half senile santa. The production value isn't big, and some performances questionable. There is also a side storyline that makes no sense with the mums new jobs. Also we get some cuts to jump between two timelines, one year before and the present which felt weird. I don't have anything good to say about the movie. I would prefer something more upbeat like Tim Allen Santa Clause. This is the complete opposite. There are a couple of emotional moments that worked but most of the movie was just sad and boring.

Enola Holmes 2
(2022)

mostly fun but mediocre writing
This is a woke movie like the first one. Thats why the movie contains a lot of feminist messages that are not really needed. At least its somehow incorporated into the story but still a little over the top. The story is okay, Sherlock is also a little more useful than in the first movie. Overall the movie is fun to watch. Just switch off your brain end enjoy the ride. Its well made and has its charms at times. On the negative side it suffers the typical "woke" problem. You could exchange Enola with a boy and all the scenes would work perfectly because she behaves more like a boy than a girl would. And if you exchange her love interest into a girl also every scene played exactly the same would work too! Very funny if you think about it.

Good movie. Not great.

Blockbuster
(2022)

Not impressed
If you are looking for a show where everyone is nice and friendly? Look no further! This one might be for you! Everyone is so unbelievable nice there is not much room for any drama or humour. While in its core the idea of the last blockbuster is nice you also immediately ask yourself why are there so many employees? You would downsize immediately to a bare minimum but then your wouldn't have many characters left i guess? But you could solve this by having some regulars that come in daily or whatever and other sorts of things. But apart from that... everything is mediocre. I would be surprised if there is a second season.

iZombie
(2015)

Unique Mix worth watching
You may think "another zombie show, how boring!". There are way too many zombie shows out there nowadays. Thats true. But you might give that one a try. It doesn't try to be "special" by giving the zombie a different name like "walkers" or something. That would suggest that people didn't know what a zombie is but i digress... usually the zombies are just the enemies but this time the zombie is actually the hero which solves crimes! But of course not all zombies are friendly! In short a cop/crime show with zombies.

Most characters are very likeable and well cast. And the bad guys are really great too! Especially David Anders. He is always a great bad guy. The whole cast work great together. Nothing to complain.

The story arc is mostly good. Some Elements change over time and most characters also go through some changes. This way they avoid repeating themselfs too often.

Best would be to just watch the first two episodes. After that you will know if you like it or not.

My true rating would be something like a 7.8 maybe so i'm giving it an 8.

Obi-Wan Kenobi
(2022)

Needs a recut
Well, six Episodes means about 270 minutes runtime. Thats like a whole new trilogy. But is it as good? No! Actually, the show drags on a little between episode 2 - 4. There is not much going on there except going from A to B and doing stuff. The enemy is always close by and there are many many stupid decisions by the characters. Those stupid decisions are made to bring the story into a certain direction. Not very clever. Just bad and lazy writing! But if you took the best stuff from the show and recut it into an 120 minutes movie it might be really really good! So in the end its part disappointment, part a real joy to watch. Also a bit too much of fan service maybe :-)

Feuchtgebiete
(2013)

as bad as the book
If you are easily impressed by explicit language then this book or movie might be for you. But except for its very direct language to describe things about the woman body and their functions its a pretty lame story. But i remember well why i read it. Charlotte Roche was already famous and known in germany so she went to talk shows to advertise it. The book got hyped and sold well. If she wasn't famous at all i'm convinced that no one would have taken notice of that book. It was all just good advertising! And a couple of years later they made a movie about it. I watched it on free tv and like the book its boring. No real story, just a weird little woman with bad hygiene doing stuff and having an embarrassing medical emergency.

War of the Worlds
(2019)

Bored in Translation
Making a show about aliens invading earth should be a lot of fun. Especially if you base it on good source material. Unfortunately this is not the case here.

The show is very slow! Unbearable slow actually! You feel in in every scene. The visuals, sound, music even give you the "Slow Vibe". And in addition there are a lot of people speaking foreign languages and you have to read subtitles! Come on! This always distracts because all of the sudden you have to "read" instead of watch something. Its more easy to watch if they all spoke the same language. You don't multiple languages in a tv show. I guess the filmmakers thought this would make the show better and more sofisticated. But its the opposite! Its boring and tedious to watch.

Stay away from this. Not worth the time.

Encanto
(2021)

Good songs and visuals but still boring
I just watched it an hour ago and i don't remember what this was all about.

Too many characters, a lot of singing and not much story telling going on. I think it was about the family how you should love each other no matter what. I don't know what else to say. One of the weakest disney movies for sure.
