Jam
(2006)

Awesome cast
I saw this at the Boston Film Festival and it's quite a good movie.

It has lots going for it, especially two things:

A strong ensemble cast with favorites like Tess Harper and William Forsythe, made even stronger by the solid Amanda Detmer, who has charisma galore, and the sexy Jeffery Dean Morgan. Rrrrrrrrrrrr.

Secondly, it shows strong work by first-time feature director, Craig Serling. His directing is confident and efficient and watchable. His background in editing pays off here in his deft storytelling. Juggling so many story lines couldn't have been easy.

At turns funny and poignant, it was a crowd pleaser at the festival with good reason.

Excellent performances
I just saw this film at the Rhode Island Film Festival and it was great! It's hard to find a movie that's funny AND suspenseful AND sexy AND poignant, and this one delivers.

Gil Bellows is excellent as "David Daily" a complex character whose life is falling apart. Jennifer Westfelt as "Melody" is adorable, yet again a character who operates on many levels. "Susan" is super sexy, as is "Sean". But it's the David/Melody chemistry that really works here.

All the actors are absolutely convincing. Besides that, it looked beautiful. And the music was just really well suited to the film, and fun. I highly recommend this one.

AKA

Excellent
This film is excellent, and obviously effective, judging by the lively debate it has inspired. Whether you loved it or hated it (and I loved it), you just couldn't forget it. It keeps creeping up on you for days after. In my opinion it's beautifully shot, with lighting that effectively elicits the the right emotional response for each scene.

The acting is terrific, with an wonderfully subtle and stirring performance by its lead, Matthew Leitch. The supporting characters are all excellently played, although the American is annoyingly shrill (which is probably the point). Not for the faint of heart, this is a beautiful, moving film.
