Sting
(2024)

one point deduction because of the baby
A solid creature film. Young girl finds alien spider, underestimates it and has to save the world at the end. That could be a short summary of Sting. This film is great fun (despite or perhaps because of the somewhat clichéd plot). The only personal drawback is the kidnapping of the protagonist's baby brother. Apart from the shock of a baby being kidnapped by a spider, it doesn't add anything to the plot. I personally rate all films in which small children are harmed for effect at least one point lower than they deserve. However, since nothing happens to the little one (apart from a serious trauma), I'll just deduct this one point. Please forgive me.

What a load of nonsens
To be honest, I can't understand all the positive comments. A movie whose social criticism is limited to the burning of money and a couple of slogans.

Yet he wants to be so much more. But instead of real criticism, the movie indulges in violence. The main character has no motivation for his actions. The movie wavers between pseudo-realistic dialog and non-narrated revenge orgy. The camera wobbles along and tries to tell an action story where there is only senseless violence. To be honest, the movie tells no story at all, but is a series of meaningless dialogs, explosions and a guy who shoots at everything that moves. 90 minutes long. Boring.

Detective Knight: Redemption

Slightly better than part one. But it's still outrageous.
Yes, it's a B-movie and yes, these kinds of films, especially action movies, are often very cheaply cranked down flicks with cheap effects and even cheaper dialog. Gifted. However, this film series scores with good pictures and passable actors, but suffers greatly from its cliché-laden screenplays, which are so outrageous that they give the impression of having been written by some action movie screenplay machine. Doesn't anyone read these books? For me, it remains the greatest acting achievement to be able to play this nonsense without cramps and with the necessary seriousness. Chapeau.

Despite all the criticism, it has to be said that this movie (like its predecessor) has its moments. There is a strong villain here, whose nasty nature is very appealing. The open ends of plots from the first part are also picked up and continued here.

All in all, however, the feeling remains that a lot of B-movie action has been soldered together in a completely abstruse script without really dealing with the characters and their motivations. And that's a shame, because basically everything else works well. The music, effects, picture and editing are okay and suggest a higher budget than there probably was. So why save on the story?

Detective Knight: Rogue
(2022)

Nice action and a screenplay by ChatGPT (?)
This movie is the first part of a trilogy of action movies featuring Bruce Willis, who has unfortunately retired from show business due to some kind of dementia.

From the very first second, this movie wants to be an action thriller from the "good old days" and really doesn't leave out any clichés. Cool sayings, an ageing cop who loves working alone and nasty villains. Edward Drake tries to give the latter in particular a little more depth in his film, but doesn't get past the usual clichés. A pity, really. And unfortunately, these words can also be used to describe the entire movie.

The actors really try to make the best of the thin script, but it's so badly written that most of the dialog sounds like it was written by an AI.

Bad writing
The premise of the trailer sounded exciting. Not very innovative, but exciting. However, what then flickered across the screen were beautiful images with an absurd story. A lot of drama around bland characters whose only emotional moments consisted of "yelling at each other." It's a pity. There could have been more.

The actors (a fairly well-known cast) give their best, but the director fails to build any tension at any point. Perhaps also because none of the characters act in a comprehensible way. Only the boy Jonah (Spencer Drever) managed to evoke some feeling in me.

Let's hope that Clay Staub has learned from this for his next film.

After the Dark
(2013)

Just another teenage movie
I had high expectations because of the trailer and the story I was told by a friend of mine. So I gave this movie a Chance.

I don't want to repeat all the other reviews so I say: it's just another teenage movie. And badly it's not a good one.
