Guns & Gulaabs
(2023)

The built-up that never really gets built.
6 episodes down, I knew this is not the best work of Raj and DK but the built up in all these episodes do a certain level of justice that you move to the last episode. The 7th episode being 1 hour 21 minutes long and we as viewers are to a point intrigued what is happening next as the episode keeps tries to join the dots for what builds to a devastating climax.

The characters are there to stay with you.

The ones that stand out are Chaar cut aatmaram played by Gulshan Devaiah, Jugnu by Adarsh Gaurav, Paana Tipu by Rajkumar and Gangaram played by Tanishq Chaudhary.

Dulquer however at point does feel lost in this game.

Watch it for the performances and the action sequences taking place in dark.

3.5/5.

Ojing-eo geim
(2021)

My first Korean Drama experience.
Ok so I was having a difficult time remembering their on screen names as well as real names apart from Ali(Played by Anupam Tripathi).

What made me watch this is ofcourse the way it topped the Netflix most viewed content chart and to be real it was indeed an experience for me.

In the initial episode I remembered the characters like "ok the North Korean girl", "Ok the lead actor", "Ok the bad guy and his gang " etc etc.

For me it is definitely an edge of the seat thriller as I almost binged it in two days.

What me yawn was the final episode which probably laid foundation for the second season.

I go with 9/10 here for the performances, the writing and the apt direction.

The games have you in the moment where you probably forget you were breathing too.

Go for it.

Chopsticks
(2019)

Breezy One Time Watch
Mithila's innocence and Abhay Deol's charm. These two things carry the movie entirely. Vijay Raaz has limited screen time and his act is somewhere on the similar lines of Delhi Belly. Chote Miya is a treat to watch in his special appearance.

The direction does manage to hold your attention and the editing has to be given a special mention as 1 hr 40 mins seems perfect for a simple story line that Chopstick has.

All in all a good one time watch to have along with friends one fine afternoon.

Gully Boy
(2019)

Slow and Calm Masterpiece
Gully Boy merges into you and makes you feel as a part of Murad's journey (Ranveer Singh). Dharavi 17 is where he stays and his daily struggles, his exposure to rap, his love life, a mistake in relationship, his guide, his well-wisher,his bonding with parents.. A common man's journey actually. We all have such stories in our life. Zoya has brilliantly captured the gully life here and shows how it moulds oneself with the amount of time you spend with people around you.

With every movie this guy gets better. So once again Ranveer does his one of career's best. Alia is the show stealer with dialogues that gets the whistle. We have three supporting Vijays here in this movie Vijay Raaz(father),Vijay Maurya(Uncle),Vijay Varma(Friend) and they are spot on. Amruta Subash(mother) expresses her life's melancholy brilliantly.

Kalki as sky gets limited screen time but packs a punch and last but not the least the game changer Siddhant Chaturvedi(MC Sher). He overpowers Ranveer in many scenes.

I won't stop if I start mentioning how apt and brilliant is the screenplay here.. Cinematography by Jay Oza and crisp editing by Nitin Baid are felt on the screen as the movie even being slow in pace doesn't be a boring affair in 2 hrs 35 mins. Zoya has struck a win win here.

Finally, what made it more lively was screen time for real life rappers like Emiway Bantaai,Stony Psycho and Dope Daddy from Dopedealicz , Kaambhaari and also a second of Brodha V.

Just felt like saying this that how well the hip hop culture has been able to connect with our generation. Emiway Bantaai's one second presence in first half and the crowd erupted like never seen before. Also , his acts in second half are treat to watch. Not to forget Kaam Bhaari is there too.

All in all 9/10 from my side. Go for it folks. Watch it for a beautiful journey of the guy from streets.

Pahuna: The Little Visitors
(2017)

Challenges and Responsibility makes us hell stronger
90 minutes of sheer innocence on screen. Pahuna is a story of two kids who take care of their younger brother when undue circumstances separate them from their Parents.

Each passing day makes them more responsible towards their brother and also makes them ready to face any challenge. It is the innocence with which they carry out is depicted very brilliantly in the movie.

Paakhi Tyrewala has written and directed this and she soars high and high. Songs are mesmerizing and we'll times. Really great that Priyanka backed this project. She must be super proud.

Watch Pahuna for its simplicity and the performances. It deserves a watch.

Padmaavat
(2018)

One of the best directed movie of Bollywood.
Ok then! After a long controversy Padmavati finally releases and that too with a slight name change.

What I really loved about this movie is that along with the performances it is actually a very rare piece of beauty even in the technical aspect. It is never easy to get the audience a feel as if they are actually living in the same time as shown in the movie and Padmaavat achieves it very well.

Surely one of the best from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Background score is very intriguing.Climax fight very short. However the last scene does feel a little rushed.

Shahid shines even though many may say he was under used , but that was his role and he performed like a seasoned guy.Deepika shines in the lead. Ranveer is seriously very awesome and his villainous act will go down along with list of Gabbars and the Mogambos.Jim Sarbh plays his part well as a side kick to Ranveer and yes, his entry scene is the best one.

All in all, it is a movie to be experienced in the cinema hall. Go for it.

Mukkabaaz
(2017)

Method Acting and the presentation.
Vineet Kumar Singh. This name is going to stay forever with you after you done watching Mukkabaaz. With small screen time roles in Anurag Kashyap's Wasseypur Series,Ugly and short film Murabba(part of Bombay Talkies) and Mahesh Manjrekar's Lalbaug Parel, he is not new to the cinema world.

But for the first time he gets to play the lead and he does it with an impeccable performance and what we call Method Acting. With almost 3 years of training , we can see it easily in the movie that he has not only performed but lived it. Very well supported by Jimmy Shergill and Ravi Kishen.Zoya as Vineet's love life does full justice to the role in her debut.

Coming to the direction part , we don't have the chance to find any flaws as the pace even little slow is kept very interesting and moving with a mixture of both commercial and art feel.Editing needs a special mention here.

All in all its a well made movie.

Shivaay
(2016)

Almost Impressive ,Lengthy screen time spoils all
The jump from the cliff and the super mountaineering scenes with 'Bolo Har Har' in the background. You are glued to the screen as you see one of the brilliant start sequence of a Bollywood movie in recent times.

All falls apart as the story takes a slow way to build up and gains interest only sometime before interval. Second half on the other hand is better with the twists but still viewer feels the way Shivaay is stretched too much.

The car chase sequence is the best of the lot among the action sequences.

Ajay Devgan carries this as one man show all the way. Sayesha Saigal and Girish Karnad are good in their short roles. Vir Das and Saurabh Shukla are wasted here.

Shivaay had all the potential to become one of the finest action flicks to come out of Bollywood. But the lengthy screen time takes toll on the viewer.

Charlie
(2015)

Offbeat and Smooth
There were a lot of expectations from Charlie the way it was promoted and it has lived very well the expectations.

Charlie is short in running time and crisp in terms of editing and it was required as the film has an offbeat essence to it.Stretching could have made the film a bit boring.Well handled by Martin and the editing team.

Music by Gopi Sunder is palpable. My pick is Chundari Penne.

The highlight of the movie completely lies in the apt cinematography by Jomon T John.

Dulquer has given one of the career best performance.Charlie adds another medal to his kitty. Parvathy Menon is awesome as always. Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi Venu and Soubin Shahir were flawless in their supporting roles.

Charlie requires your attention and patience while watching. It has the ability to take you to a different world beyond your imagination.

Watch it for the sheer experience of cinematic brilliance.

Hunterrr
(2015)

Ponkshe ht Hunterrr all the way
Hunterrr is not all entire sex comedy start to end, in fact i would rate Hunterrr ahead of many of that genre like Kya supercool hain hum, Grand masti etc. Highlight of Hunterrr is the way the topic has been dealt and how we share it with others.

Gulshan Devaiah as Mandar Ponkshe(Vasu) is fun to watch. Radhika and Sai are impeccable.Supporting star cast along with it make it brilliant. Watch out for characters like Mandar's two cousins.

When i first saw the trailers i thought it would get banned. This has been the behavior of censor board these days but very happy that the content of Hunterrr got passed. Directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni who is the real hero here ,Hunterrr will make a mark of its own with the youth as they will relate more to Hunterrr. Kudos to Phantom productions backing this project.

Will go with 8/10

Mardaani
(2014)

Intriguing, Disturbing.Well depicted movie.
Many movies had the child trafficking as a backdrop. But Mardaani will stay as a cult in coming days. The film is short and up to the point with crisp narration and top notch acting.

Performances: Rani is back with bang after a short sabbatical. Tahir Basin is excellent. Priyanka Sharma as Pyaari is bound to grab attention. Brilliant support from other character actors.

Direction: Pradeep Sarkar has found the groove after nearly a decade Parineeta hit the theaters. (He directed Laaga Chunari mein Daag(2007)and Lafangey Parindey(2010) both sank.).

The expectations will definitely be high when he directs his next.

Music: Background Score by Karthik Raja is apt.

Screenplay is dark as it remains in most of art-house cinemas.Very well balanced.

In all Mardaani is a compelling watch and would definitely be a hallmark in realistic cinemas portrayed in Bollywood.

Singham Returns
(2014)

Singham Saaheb!! You Rock!!
Ajay Devgan's character Bajirao Singham is now in people's heart and you can understand it by hearing the whistles every time he comes on the screen. As always Ajay is in top form. Kareena has been utilized well here without getting overboard. A bonus treat here for all the CID TV serial fans is Inspector Daya who is addressed without any doubt with the same name that he is been known since years. Yes yes there is a door opening sequence for which he is known for.

Ashwini Kalsekar and Anupam Kher are flawless in their respective roles. Amol Gupte and Naser Hussain as antagonists are superb. Rohit Shetty and team have given yet another entertainer for the audience with a message related to Mumbai police which we have seen in many Bollywood pot boilers but this ones handled well.

Without any doubt Singham Returns will now join the 'better than first' rank of sequels. Singham was a classy mass entertainer. The team has done a brilliant work to make the sequel a better treat to their fans and they have succeeded all to the top.

It's Entertainment
(2014)

Animal Lovers will get emotional, others will forget this movie.
Akshay Kumar is in top form after Holiday's Success. Entertainment will add icing on the cake for him.

The movie actually doesn't belong to akshay kumar himself. It belongs to all the actors.watch out for one liners.

Compared to other masala flicks like bodyguard, once upon a time in mumbai dobara etc.,Entertainment is way way better than all.

Its a complete family entertainer with love of a dog as a backdrop. The movie is sure going to be a cult in the coming days because of its novel theme as there is every ingredient of a masala entertainer in it. Its complete no brainer. The reason i am going with 8/10 is because it will leave you entertained. Watch it with your friends or family. Its going to be sure shot fun.

War Chod Na Yaar
(2013)

Zest of a Black Comedy
The movie starts with both leaders of the respective army playing cards at the border in late night and this is unknown to rest all the soldiers of both the sides.

The movie then unfolds to the stories happened 18 hours back and comes to the present till interval and then heads for the second half.

Here, we are shown how the media and political groups are hungry for attention and also getting awakened at the time when it was needed the most.

War chodd na yaar shows something that is actually known but always been held as a covert stuff just because of the agenda of the people at the top.

WCNY mostly focuses on the sentiments of the people from both the sides, the soldiers as well as the common people. Watch out for the scenes where an Indian girl chats with a Pakistani guy on FB about the things happening at the border.

The movie will be remembered for the comic timing and a common subject dealt with a different view. Direction by Faraz Haider is promising.

Performances are top notch from all the actors. Sharman,Javed Jaffrey , Soha Ali Khan and Mukul Dev are brilliant. Special mention for Mr.Dalip Tahil who plays four roles at the same time and does it with zeal. Sanjay Mishra and Manoj Pahwa also don't look underused.

Songs are good but the song at the start showing soha falling for sharman and only capturing him in her camera could have been avoided.

In all its a refreshing change from the path that is always taken by Bollywood comedy movies. There is no room for boredom here.

For the team of WCNY, i would dedicate this quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson ,"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. "

Tis movie has achieved it.

Madras Cafe
(2013)

Madras Cafe You beauty, Not everyone's coffee!!!
With an unusual kind of start , the movie then triggers back to reverse gear and shows the happenings during the lankan civil war. Madras Cafe is short, fast paced and crisp piece of an offbeat cinema with a solid background music. Very well technically crafted. Casting is pitch perfect with special mention for Bangalore theater actor Prakash Belawadi who essayed the role of Bala. With every movie this year,John ends up with career best performance. Nargis lives up to expectation this time and débutant Reena's performance is very moving even though a brief one. Siddharth Basu is flawless.

Politically, there have been many protests on this movie about taking sides but if you watch it as viewer,Madras Cafe is one of the best movies to come out in Bollywood because of its different style of portraying the scenario. You are going to witness a very powerful cinema which is not for weak hearted.

D-Day
(2013)

Someday!!! We wish Someday!!!
D-Day is a kind of step taken by Bollywood , wherein it shows nailing of the most wanted criminal of India. Perhaps, since it never happened so the movie makes you feel will this ever happen?

The story telling of the movie is very gripping, somehow the length(2 hrs 35 mins) is kinda draggy but its OK as the movie keeps the audience at the edge of their seat till the end. Its a welcome return of director Nikhil Advani whose last couple of films have met drowning ends. Technically , D-Day is one of the brilliant movies to come in recent times.

Music is at its place as the timing of "mast kalandar", "Alvida" and "Dhuan" is perfect and make you feel the situation.

Performance wise Irffan stands out as Wali Khan. Rishi Kapoor enacts role of 'Goldman' Iqbal in a confident way and we feel that he is transforming even today. Arjun is superb as rough Rudra. Huma qureshi's performance is great as usual. Akash Dahiya as Aslam is a performer to watch out too. Shruti Hasan does great justice to the cameo kind of role in the movie. Chandan Roy Sanyal as nephew of Iqbal is flawless. Nassar and Sandeep Kulkarni in their brief appearances are solid.

D-Day will appeal to the kind of audience who like watching movies made with realistic approach. Its a blend of all in one. A movie which deserves a watch.

Rating : 9/10

Raakh
(1989)

Ahead of its time, but deserves a Watch
Pankaj Kapur and Aamir Khan Both of them have their own fan base and why should not they as they are amongst the more versatile actors we have today in the Bollywood. But if any of their fan says that they have not seen Raakh , then sorry that person is just claiming to be their fan and not true one. Both of them won National Award for their performances in this movie.

As i was watching Raakh and as it proceeded i was just a bit taken a back , the fact that it was never been a talk the way it deserved. Nevertheless the reason for it is because in 1989 a movie like Raakh was well ahead of its time.

The movie is a revenge drama shown in a unique style directed by Aditya Bhatacharya(wonder why this guy never came up with another movie). Story telling is quick and crisp.Truly a deserving different watch. All the Actors are just flawless.

Raakh has no songs but wait a minute folks, the background is riveting and you just feel as if you are a part of it every time the track is played.

If you cant withstand revenge and violence and you have mostly stayed away from parallel cinema then this is surely not your cup of tea.

People wanting to see something different do yourself a favor ,Watch Raakh.

Rating: 10/10

Go Goa Gone
(2013)

Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K Rock again
Coming from the directors of 99 and Shor in the City, both of which have a cult following in different age cinema , Go Goa Gone also does the justice to the tag of Different Cinema.

Zombies concept was never used in Bollywood until the forgettable Luke Kenny's "Rise of Zombies" which released last month and went unnoticed.

What makes GGG work is the plot with a comic element as the center. Kunal Khemu steals the show with his comic timing.(Praying to God and ending with Jai Hind is what will stay with you even after you leave the Cinema Hall) Vir Das is natural as always. Nice to see Anand Tiwary(Remember Mr. Pappu in Udaan) after a little gap.Confident Debut by Pooja.

Saif is full on in his Russian avatar as Borris(Bareessss as he likes to b called in it.)

No dull moments in the movie which makes it more of great watch. You will always be giggled by some or the actor by their comic timing.

But in the end its still the Dierctor's movie. Raj and DK have stuck to what their previous movies had best in it and thats the comic timing(I am using this word the third time in my review because i seriously feel this is what makes us Raj and Dk's all three movies a gem to watch).

Still waiting for my reviews, 10/10

Kai po che!
(2013)

Fabulous Presentation
Rock On!!! A movie with a simple story. Could have gone unnoticed but what held it was the presentation style, the performances, the music.

Coming from the director of the same is Kai Po Che!!

As the movie starts it gets deep into you as you watch the start credits along with Amith Sadh's expression and riveting background score and you will tell yourself that hardly we had seen such a breezing start to a movie.

Substance is what holds this movie very well. The movie is set between 2000 and 2002 and has friendship and cricket as the main backdrop. Events that take place in their lives as the movie progresses flawlessly from light drama to a dark venture.

Sushant Singh Rajput makes a confident Debut. Amit Sadh is superb. Amrita Puri makes full justice but the one who stands out is Rajkumar Yadav.

The Music of the movie is the Soul and song timings are perfect in the movie. Background Music is the best we had heard in recent times.

In all its a movie which requires recognition since we are used to masala murder flicks and this movie brings us the deserved change.

Kai Po Che is sure to rock and will end up with a cult following as Rock On did.

Special Chabbis
(2013)

Crisp and Flawless
This one comes from the director of the classic 'A Wednesday', so the expectations were high and the question arises is does it stand up??

It does and does so well that you may well end up watching the end credits .

The movie starts with a sequence of fake CBI Interview wherein the intensity of both Anupam Kher and Akshay Kumar builds the movie further with fake CBI Issues piling one on another.

The high point of this dramatic satire is that there are no dull moments.Even the scenes between Akshay and Kaajal are ain't boring.

Since the movie stars well acclaimed actors there was seldom chance of bad performance. Manoj Bajpai , Anupam Kher , Akshay Kumar top notch. Great Supporting cast from Jimmy Shergil and Divya Dutta.

All in all its a movie recommended to the class of different genre movie lovers.Great to see AK in a different role after long time.

Rating:Unimportant

Table No.21
(2013)

Topical and Good Approach
This one comes from the director of craps like Aashiq Banaaya Aapne, Dil Diya Hai(have you heard this movie name before??)

But this time Aditya Dutt Delivers his career best with Table No.21.

The movie gets into the run right from the start without wasting any time and gets even fast paced after Paresh Rawal's Entry.

Best thing about the movie is its not too stretched and its a great watch. gripping to be true.

Performance wise both Paresh Rawal and Rajeev deliver in their style as expected. Tena has overacted a bit in start 15 minutes though.

Not to forget the actor who played Akram in the movie, his expressions just make you feel about the situation gone through.

Direction is hats off with the links fitting very well.

On the whole, Table No. 21 is for those who look forward for thrilling stuff.

Not to be missed.

9/10
