It's a typical opium film. The Mega is fun to watch, but afterwards you don't get the power from front to back. Another typical 90's movie with a workaholic father who doesn't care enough about his family and especially his children and is converted in the end through the adventure of becoming a family man again.
I know this is a cult film so it's hard to criticize the film without pissing people off.
But it's just as hard to find anything good about this film.
I find the idea of an adult Peter Pan interesting, but it struggles with realistic appeal. Mainly because in the beginning it is presented as if Peter Pan is just a fairy tale, just a story, even with real books. Written about it, but is old Mrs. Wendy the Wendy Darling from the fairy tale?
I don't really like that the film has its own appeal and visual style, but so do so many others at times. Now, allusions to the Disney movie and the other movies as well, does that mean all of this takes place in the same universe?
Robin Williams playing an adult Peter Pan is such a unique and brilliant idea. It really is the perfect casting. But unfortunately he is. Much of the film is just sad, calm and depressed.
A very visually stunning film, but some scenes are a little too long.
Maybe the movie would be better if we started with Neverland right away.
I think this movie is a great thing for kids because it has so many things that kids love, it's right and it's over the top. There are so many child actors that Al just fools around and fights pirates. By kicking his butt or throwing things at you. There's a dance party, there's a food fight, etc. And I could put myself into it and, even as an adult, I had a lot of fun watching it.

And the costumes. The costumes are just awesome, they almost surpass the scenery. It's like living in a theater world.
But despite all the praise, there are unfortunately also a few points of criticism.
Firstly, the sound is of course the children's film, but you still have an emotional whiplash here and there because there are also quite dark and violent scenes. People are stabbed, shot or otherwise injured. The film was originally planned as a musical and it shows, but I doubt I would have liked to see it. In some places the characters say quite inappropriate and vulgar things.
Tinkerbell was already in love with Peter Pan in the original, but here she scales up to make out with him and also wants to seduce him? I just think that's sick. All scenes in the real world are terribly boring.
I'm glad that while it's fun and games, the film doesn't undermine its message and the responsibility of growing up. Because at the end of the day, Peter Pan has started a family, and with that he has a job to do.
But you notice Steven Spielberg's typical talents That the film is so cute. Has a candy-sweet atmosphere, the scene transitions are buttery smooth, there are good match cards and the movie is good despite that. Alban still exciting just want to know what's next? So the end, actually the last short film with the flying grandpa, was a bit messed up because the boundaries between reality and fantasy are now blurring and it's difficult for me to understand when and where this film is set, or in which dimension. Would have left it open-ended just seeing how happy the man was. That would have been enough, but everyone else looks totally surprised and happy that someone flies out of the blue and they fly during the day? To the London sky? Ouch!
