Aoharaido
(2014)

Fans of the genre will enjoy
We know what makes a great movie, and yes it lacks in a few of those.

I will say it is still enjoyable if you like the genre or more so if you liked the anime.

Definitely is cute and can pull out tears if you can tolerate some cringy spots >.<

Lost: The End: Part 1
(2010)
Episode 17, Season 6

Wrote themselves into a corner
The more intellectual viewers cannot stop but be infuriated. I would LOVE to see the writers at a comicon for a Q&A. They can't, for the simple reason that they built up too many questions that could not be answered. Even with the last episode and with the episode with Jacob and MIB growing up there were a lot of inconsistencies, such as how did the MIB turn into smoke but not Hurley, Dasmond, or Jack? The tunnel was not that strong of a waterfall, as if the MIB had to be a handicapped child to fall all the way down. That is only ONE of a kazillion unanswered questions and it's very bad when they kept hyping it up with quotes like "you're not ready" to keep up the suspense.

Did I miss something?
There's a horde of 10's here and not quite sure if I watched the same movie. There's definitely things to rejoice about here with familiar characters and awesome fighting sequences but this movie was too slow and never fully engaged me. Vincent and Eleka were cool characters but I've never felt like they were worth the emotional investment to really care. OK, so he thought his whole life was like a dream because they erased his memory. You poor baby, and now he's going to try to annihilate everyone. Couldn't really relate there because I was thinking, just move on then! Beside this, the TV series set such high standards and although it is unfair to compare the two, it really can't be helped. This movie is a 5 but if you want to watch a 10, watch the last two episodes of the TV series, "Real Folk Blues".

stinks
Made me pretty infuriated.

Everything here just to make a buck.

There is absolutely no real story, or at least one that you care about.

Action scenes were cool, but special effects can only be a spicing for a movie, and not the meat.

You can tell they followed pretty much the same formula as in the first one, with the mix of action, humor, character drama, and there is no originality, authenticity or any type of risk made here to cause a stir.

Basically a people pleasing movie. It's total crap.

Also add in there the product placement of cars, and you have a guy that was just relieved when the credits came.

Dropping the ball
How they could've ruined such a wonderful thing is beyond anyone's imagination. Season 1 was magnificent, with an addictive plot, great character development and a slow unveiling of what's to come.

Season 2 was so so but slow, and take any 20 minute segment in Season 3 you understand the show has gotten unbearable. They don't explain a damn thing and the plot is too convoluted to care. Instead you see how the writers using their now totally uninteresting storyline as an excuse to make all the good guys become the bad guys and vice versa. Do this enough times and you're going to loose an audience. It's like trying to keep a child with ADD interested with flashy magic. The little side adventures with the vortex guy or mind controller guy were completely uninteresting.

There are many flaws with the script, but off the top of my head here's one: They build up Adam as this super powerful/influential guy and beside the healing ability they don't even explain how, and then he gets easily killed to make room for the next big villain.

Cancellation is coming soon! Quit while you guys made some money.

Over rated
With an IMDb rating of 7.4 I was expecting a better movie. Sure, it showed poverty in Beijing that most of us have never seen before, but just because of this, should it deserve a better rating? Some how showing poverty and suffering apparently gets people thinking it was a great movie. It's almost as if they feel sorry for the characters in it, so they feel sorry for a movie that was just OK.

The story was OK, the directing was OK, the acting was OK, so I'm still wondering what is it that's making people vote a high rating for this movie?

The movies that I list below are somewhat random but rank lower than this movie which I disagree: Higher Learning (6.3) Appleseed 2004 (7.1) Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (7.1)

This movie ties with Better Tomorrow (7.4) and can you tell me where's the talent in this movie that compares with John Woo and Chow Yun Fat?

As I write this, I came to a revelation.. Females are bringing down my movies.. It would be great if IMDb could split its ratings gender-wise!

In conclusion, this movie was just OK. Even if you aren't into racing compacts, you'll find better movie production in Initial D 2005 (5.9).. but then again that's coming from a guy.

I know what thiis movie needed
OK, I've watched the movie, read the reviews on here, thought about it for a day and it finally hit me. Mann's vision, directing, Tom cruise and Jamie Fox's acting were all flawless. The characters were all developed very well, not to mention the relationship that these two developed. What I think would of have made the movie better is if Tom Cruises's character's (Vincent) ethics laid closer to that line where we would consider him either a good guy or a bad guy. For example, many of us were able to sleep after watching this movie knowing that he was basically a bad guy, he killed innocent bystanders (the cool cop, the security guard at the end, bystanders, etc.) so we were more easily able to simply put him in the bad-guys bracket. I'm not sure if everyone is familiar with the Punisher, but he's basically the same thing, except that the majority of us would consider his ethics to be justified (he's after the bad guys but would not shoot innocent bystanders). I think the philosophical conversations between the two would of had a stronger impact if we it wasn't that simple to decide if we agreed with Tom Cruises's character. For example, if he brought up the question to Max: what does he think about being able to kill three bad guys at the cost of killing one innocent bystander? Would he consider that to be a worthy cause??? Now THIS would of have mad me pick my noodles for weeks...

Best CGI Movie to Date
For me personally this has to be the greatest CGI movie to date. But this film is way more important to me than this fact. I used to love reading Masamue Shirow's original comic and loved the first Appleseed OAV attempt, but this movie is ready to become a favorite among many that are even slightly a connoisseur with sci-fiction films, especially anime. For anyone who thought those fast, missile dodging action in Robotech was cool, this movie makes a good attempt at making you foam at the mouth with its intense, super fast/detailed mech slaughter fest action! But once again this movie is more than this fact... Finally Fantasy was similarly eye candy but it let down with its story and its presentation. This movie well represents the genius of Masamue Shirow's characters, story, and the philosophical question, once mankind is technologically advanced enough to create a superior counterpart, do we allow them to lead us or do we lead them, knowing that we are in fact inferior? This makes it a work of literature even digestible in our high school English classes! But beside this point, the story and characters were very well created and the direction for this movie was superb, it kept a high interest level through out. Being able to understand Japanese and knowing Masame Shirow's Appleseed was a big factor for me watching this film but I hope everyone can see at least part of the beauty I saw in this film in all its ways....

Best Movie I ever saw.
I often wondered what makes a great movie or better yet a perfect movie. This movie related to me more than anything else I have ever seen and therefore, to me is perfect. I first wanted to invite everyone to see this movie but realized this isn't for everyone. To fully enjoy this movie, one really needs to see the first one to understand the references to Major Kusanagi and "2501", and have at least a slight interest in philosophy and religion. There's a lot of philosophical references from Confucius, Old Testament, Buddhism, etc. which I personally thought were great, and realized how much I appreciate that this movie is not out to please everyone. Director Mamoru Oshii clearly made this for the fans, and fans knew from the first movie and the series (Stand Alone Complex), anything GITS explores deep philosophical questions, and it's philosophy that is the real reason for these movies. Life, death, god, ghosts, nature of reality... I personally think about this stuff all day, and let me say that while I watched, I was thinking, 'this is it!' It's a movie that sparks contemplation. Beside this point, I can go on and on about how the visuals in this movie are so beautiful, how the 2D art work meshed with CG seamlessly, how the directing was well done, and how technically advanced this movie is.

The techincal part will one day be over come as we develop better ways to render graphics, but this in addition to the intelligent script makes it a classic that will lead the pack (in animation) for years to come, as did the first one. Saw this movie twice in the theatre already... Greatest time ever. 10 out of 10.
