  • Once again, everyone is talking about . . .

. . . punctuation marks; specifically, the starry asterisk following the word "THUNDERBOLTS" in the title of this film. Most people are wondering how this bit of typography will stack up in the long run against such starry classics as 61* and M*A*S*H. After the novelty wears away from THUNDERBOLT's star, I think that it is likely that 61* will revert to its position at the top of the theatrical-release-only asterisk list. (M*A*S*H, of course, is more famous as a television situation comedy than as a film raking in bucks at the box office.) 61* derives from the Real Life suffering of Roger Maris, hounded into an early grave by Mickey Mantle and the ghost of Babe Ruth. BAT*21, by the way, has nothing to do with Mantle, Ruth, Maris or baseball. Space does not permit a closer examination of the other 107 headings on the official asterisk-in-the-title list.

  • England has a reprehensible history of mistreating women from . . .

. . . their so-called "Royals" on up. Henry the Eighth, of course, was a cereal killer, lopping off queen's noggins left and right. Ditto for King Edward VII, whom most unbiased historians believe warmed up for his throne by touring Soho as the rip current known as Jack. So it should come as no surprise to astute viewers that Britain's lack of comprehensive and affordable daycare forces a top spy's wife to communicate secrets to the Third Shrike. In most civilized countries, such use of passenger pigeons is hailed as feminine inclination. However, from King Wart to present day times, this sanguinary isle has wallowed in crimson tides, as depicted to great effect in ALLIED. That is why moms pen urgent warning notes to their baby daughters, given the likelihood of a forthcoming Mother Smearist demise prior to senior prom.

  • One of the basic facts about Life in . . .

. . . Mexico is that bus loads of students are frequently buried in the middle of nowhere by the nefarious drug cartels, with law enforcement officers actively participating in the mayhem. The drug lords have inexhaustible supplies of automatic weapons and construction equipment. This failed region has a state named "War" in the local lingo. In 2014, a mob of police kidnapped 43 college students and cheered as drug cartel gangsters wood-chipped them into drainage ditches. Since this sort of amusement is ingrained with the local culture, most of the populace shrugs off such horror as a case of "boys will be boys," and will not raise a finger to lead anyone to Justice. THE ACCOUNTANT 2 revolves around events similar to the Real Life atrocity in War. Naturally, it takes teams of Americans to straighten up the Mexican mess.
