I'm giving it a good grade, why? I am a "B Movie Queen" as my husband calls me. I love a good low budget movie. Low budget doesn't automatically equal bad movie.
I especially love my disaster movies. I expect certain things. Urgency, Science, a good plot, decent acting and common sense dialog. I don't care if the graphics don't look great or the sets are less than steller.
This movie was lacking in those areas. I believe it was due to the directing?
1. Urgency, it was lacking in many situations and in the actors. This is something a good director could bring out of the actors. This was also evident during green screen scenes. The 2 teenagers did pretty well with this.
2. Science. Some of the major concepts were believable. It was the scientists in the room that weren't. It was missing the computer graphics and the whiteboard made no sense. Everytime they showed the scientists they were doing nothing 🙄
3. The plot was good. I don't even know if that thing in space could be a real thing. I didn't care. That means it was explained well enough to be believable.
4. Decent acting. For the most part that was done well. The actors were mostly pretty good. They could have been better with possibly a little more direction especially during green screen scenes. You could tell they weren't feeling it. (The dad was pretty good)
5. Common sense dialog. What I mean is. Dialog that fits the scene. Sometimes that was ok but sometimes it was not. Maybe due to editing.
The footage of the aftermath was well done also. It looked like actual disaster footage which worked well in the movie.
Overall I recommend it if you like these kinds of movies. If you're looking for a San Andreas with Dwayne Johnson, this might not be for you.
I wanted to be honest in the hopes that the next movie by these people could be much better.
