Following the footsteps of "the best of youth", this magnificent saga tells the story of a family in northern Italy from the late 50' to the 80'. The acting is impeccable, the themes are visceral, honest and meticulously built during the 7+ hours of the movie. Thorough the narration, I've experienced such deep emotions that left me weeping at times and applauding with joy, pride or awe at others. The costumes and cinematography are stellar. This is movie making at its highest.

I left the theatre 30 minutes in, so painful it was. It looks like the first attempt of an inexperienced director; awful writing, camera takes too long and meaningless, a non existent plot, stereotypes at every corner and a futile struggle for a suspense that simply doesn't exist. It I could give this movie a zero, I would.
