The Smashing Machine
(2002)

A Dominating Figure In The Fighting Scene.
Mixed Martial Arts appeals to me and that is why I enjoyed watching The Smashing Machine: The Life And Times Of Mark Kerr. I think Mark was a really exciting fighter to watch. His power was incredible, strength was overwhelming and his physique was intimidating.

This movie also presented Mark Kerr from a personal standpoint. From his addiction to drugs and his subsequent rehabilitation to breaking up with his girlfriend, who he later married. I also liked the fact that they included footage of Mark Coleman. This gave the video a variety. I would like to see Kerr vs Coleman one day (if it hasn't already happened). I'm sure it would be (or was) an exciting match. All in all, I think that Mark Kerr is a great fighter and those of you who are into MMA tournaments would agree with me that he is exciting to watch.

This only thing I disagreed with is the tournament Kerr fought in where they made elbows and knees illegal. This makes the tournament seem like less of a shoot fight and more of a pure grappling exhibition, in which people like the Gracies would win all day long.

Coach Carter
(2005)

Coach Carter Review.
Coach Carter is the story of a basketball coach who was persistent and had his priorities straight. The positive message the movie conveyed was that lives can be changed for the better through self discipline, hard work and the building of character. I was thinking to myself that the whole story was pretty believable, but then I looked into it and found it to be a true to life story so I guess it really is believable.

Samuel L. Jackson put in a convincing performance as the strict Coach Carter, as did the rest of the cast members. The movie, itself, was reminiscent of Lean On Me. It was the same basic story with the disciplinary figure helping the distraught kids through life.

I found it disappointing that the parent of the basketball team emphasized a mere game over something vastly more important, education. I rated this movie 7 of 10

White Noise
(2005)

Thought Would Be More Suspenseful But Just Turned Out Dry.
I didn't think that White Noise delivered and lived up to the hype. This movie was hyped for quite awhile and it turned out not to be the movie I believed it was going to be. It had some level of spookiness but was just not enough to make it scary.

Michael Keaton did give a convincing performance of someone who had just lost his wife and I have to admit, I enjoyed Chandra West's appearance as well.

I did not get the 3 evil guys. Were they humans, evil spirits or what? Am I even supposed to know? I just assumed they were human and the fact that they had short term premonitions seemed too far-fetched to me.

The ending implied that there would be a sequel. I'm not too sure I'd see it after seeing this one. I'd probably just wait for it to come out on DVD.

A Walk to Remember
(2002)

This Is My Favorite Movie Of All Time!
I'm a hopeless romantic, so the storyline naturally attracted me to it. The character Jamie (Mandy Moore) resembles the sort of girl that any gentleman would seek to spend their lives with.

Mandy Moore plays a powerful character that affects the lives of anyone she comes in contact with. She affected Landon (Shane West) in a very strong way, despite his initial stance towards her.

There are some cool things Landon does in this movie that I would do for my girlfriend. He becomes a likable character, although he did not start off that way.

The ending, though sad, had a positive element. That's all I can say without ruining it but it was encouraging to realize how one life could affect so many others. This one comes highly recommended. 10/10

I, Robot
(2004)

Great Special Effects, Looked Real And A Good Story Overall.
I thought the concept of the storyline was good, as it could be conceived as realistic. Given the ever increasing advances in modern technology, one can, indeed, conceive the possibility of this kind of future occurrence.

I did not really see any flaws in this movie or in the actor's character but the philosophical aspect of the movie questions at what point does artificial intelligence cease to be artificial and true consciousness arise? Anyhow, I did like the A.I. in this movie and would definitely recommend, especially if you like Will Smith movies are the Terminator series. I do, however, prefer there to be no sequels to this movie due to the fact that a sequel would probably be no more than a revamped version of the first one. With that being said, I recommend seeing it. 8/10

Shi mian mai fu
(2004)

I Assumed It Would Be More Of A Martial Arts Movie Than The Love Story It Was.
I anticipated that this would be a great movie, but I was sorely disappointed. Despite some minor fight scene highlights, the movie lacked a good, cohesive storyline. It over emphasized the twists of a normal movie. There were far too many here and very uninteresting.

Although the fight scenes were enough to keep me interested, the twists and the love story got in the way. I did like the special effects with the flying daggers darting out of the woods, with the camera staying on the daggers themselves.

The fight scenes were not enough for me to recommend this movie. Instead, stick with Bruce Lee or Steven Seagal flicks. If you must see this, I advise to wait for the DVD to become available to rent and not waste your hard earned money at the theater. 5/10
