Perry Mason is hired to defend Paul Drake. This is a case that Hamilton Burger and Lt Tragg do not want to deal with.
Drake was hired by the son of a tycoon Frank Thatcher to deliver $25,000 to a man called Alexander Collins.
Only Drake learns from Collins widow that he recently died from a hit and run.
Drake soon puts two and two together. That it was Frank Thatcher who must have run Collins over.
Well that bit is true, Frank Thatcher, a married man was with his mistress, aspiring singer Donna Kress.
He then ran over Collins as he was drunk and speeding. The family covered up the death, but they insisted that Frank gave money to the widow of the man he killed.
Only when Drake confronts Frank Thatcher, Drake is knocked out, when he comes round. The police are called and Frank Thatcher is dead.
In many this is a standard Perry Mason mystery. The person who gets blacked out, who then comes around and faces a murder charge.
The Thatchers are a despicable family who things money can solve everything.

In these streaming shows there has to be a backstory. Here we get to see how Midge encountered the Pot O Gold after her infant son was diagnosed with cancer.
As the medical insurance will not cover it, Midge made a deal with the devil. Unlike Hub she is not dead.
When Hub tracks her down, she is also in no mood to listen about his findings. The demonic outbreaks form a pentagram.
Hub's latest task is to track down two demons, a task made harder as Lucky Callahan is after him.
Once again this is just more demon hunting, only this time Hub has a crash course on manners.
I am not sure if Midge's backstory was needed.
