Gangs of London
(2020)

Style over substance
Gangs of London is a bit silly really. This is intentional IMO. It is a prime example of it's market. Non-stop over the top shock and awe, etc to maintain focus on what is being watched otherwise we'll all switch off and turn to our phones. Typical of Sky TBH.

I'm trying but it's losing me.

Bulletproof
(2018)

Stylised nonsense
Hated it. Bloated Over the top mancho nonsense. All style with absolutely no substance. Typical Noel Clarke garbage, expected more from Ashley Walters, he's better than this rubbish.

Wonderful film, ignore the haters
Brilliantly shot and acted. Brought the horrors of WW1 and trench warfare better than any other film of that period I've seen. Also a beautiful score that complemented the story. I don't get why others are saying the plot was weak and they didn't buy into the story? Too many Hollywood WW2 blockbusters in their diet I think. War is horrible, men face terrible things and all for nothing. This film shows the futility of war and the incredible sacrifices soldiers endured. I think some viewers expected the kind of story where in the end it won the war. That not the point surely? you go through hell, suffer life changing experiences, but it hardly dents the war narrative, the pain and suffering continues. The one shot camera work makes you feel are going through the it yourself, which for me made the film very immersive. War is hell and men die for nothing. Brilliant film, one I will revisit many times.

A Christmas Carol
(2019)

Dickens for grown ups only
I thought it was marvelous. Well acted and produced. Genuinely creepy and a good angle on the story. It's not for everyone but if you want to see the darker take on the classic Dickens tale then you should really enjoy it

The Silence
(2019)

Enjoy it for what it is
People take films far too seriously. Chill out and stop picking a million holes in it. This is a low level horror B movie not an oscar contender. If you're the type that expects perfection everytime, don't bother otherwise it's fun enough and another one to add to the now very fashionable end of the world movie genre, of which all have their failings but we still watch them....

Game of Thrones: The Bells
(2019)
Episode 5, Season 8

Can't please all the people
Too much GOT snobbery going on. I just enjoy it for what it is. A fantasy story with unbelievable production and an exciting story line. It was never going to be perfect and the ending was always going to be anticlimactic. That's how these things work. Tie you into the narrative, get you wanting constantly what is around the corner. Ultimately when you do eventually reach there, it's disappointing. All good things come to an end, even GOT. Personally I thought The Bells was one of the best episodes of the entire series. The production was insane, a number of characters snuffed it. Someone has to win, Dany has messed it up, years of pressure, betrayal and blood has taken its toll and pushed her over to the wrong side. Why isn't that plausible? her family had form! Even big characters can't be in every dramatic scene, Stop wanting Jon Snow to decide everything. He's had plenty of air time over the last 8 years, and I suspect will continue to do so.

Game of Thrones: The Long Night
(2019)
Episode 3, Season 8

Not all of the criticism is fair
Epic episode, multi layered with many different scenes and emotions. I agree with others that the battle scenes where too foggy/dark, which made them difficult to follow. I didn't think the music score was good enough either, it lacked the tension & drama the action deserved. However, it was overall a very satisfying and enjoyable episode. I have no issue with The Night King being defeated, although a long running threat, and a decent baddy he was never really a contender. The real players for the Throne are still in the game - the final episodes will decide that. I thought Arya killing the Night King was excellent. Her whole story led to that moment. People are complaining she couldn't have sneaked up?? She's a faceless killer, she would have hidden herself as either a White Walker or Zombie that was the whole point of all that training, too be able to get up close to her victims without them knowing! Worked a treat Just enjoy it for what it is and thank that we live in times where we have such a brilliant ground breaking show. Bring on the final moves

The Dawn Wall
(2017)

Boys own stuff
Loved it, great story of an incredible achievement of skill, patience and bravery.

4 Blocks
(2017)

Worth the effort
Not the greatest thing I've ever seen, but I enjoyed it. Well produced. Got into the story after a few episodes and found the characters worth watching, especially Toni. The Actor who played the Mob Boss wanting a better life for his family put in a very good and likable performance
