The Family
(2013)

You will laugh.
I watched this almost expecting to be disappointed.

I ended up watching it twice.

After a few times of "things" happening they came to be expected. But I still couldn't help laughing. And really the only time I didn't laugh was because the script decided to have a couple serious moments.

Don't get me wrong. This isn't just stupid laughs. There is a plot, there is acting, there is everything that makes a great movie.

I think the only way this could have been funnier is if Joe Pesci had been in it also.

This movie literally defines "wise-guy".

Prepare to be let down
Good science, bad movie. This movie is like reading a 3rd year textbook on organic chemistry. Its boring, there is no plot and every single climax seems purposefully made to be anti-climactic. Literally every time I would start to get excited I just ended up being let down again.

All the cuts and broken story line just made it seem edited by 10 second Tom from 50 First Dates. In case you have seen that movie and don't get the reference, every 10 seconds his memory started over with no recollection of what happened before. In fact, the entire movie seems this way.

This is a B movie with a budget. It's all science without the fiction.

2001: A Space Odyssey without the genius or anything else.

Very Not Bad
This movie is great campy fun.

The idea of corporations at war isn't new but the last movie I remember was set during the war. This one is after...and the people want revenge!

The director has a lot of credits as a graphic artist on some great TV shows and it appears he co-wrote the movie with his cousin. This was probably very low budget but it doesn't show as badly as some other movies. Fight scenes were decently choreographed and cut. Gary Busey has a small part and it's nice to see him working. Beverly D'Angelo also makes an appearance.

Sure the film borrows heavily from other films, I could count at least 10. But for pure entertainment it delivers.

For a director to have only have two directorial credits and have them both rated 5.0 or better on IMDb is no small feat.

I look forward to more of this directors work. Hopefully as he progresses we will see a style more his own.

If you like Tarantino and you should like this.
