Hatyapuri
(2022)

Decent enough...
Better recovery from the last few medicore Feluda movies. Indraneil sengupta looks fresh and earnest in his performance. However the actor who played Topshe was horrible. Jatayu was fine enough. Rest of the performances was average to okay. The screenplay of the film gets uneven at times and there are moments which doesn't hold interest. The best part of the film though is the climax where the suspense unveils and the classic Feluda tune...not to forget...........The film had very low buzz coming to it's release which is very unexpected............. Overall it's watchable... Won't mind seeing Indraneil for couple of more Feludas !!

Prisoners
(2013)

Fantastic crime drama thriller with insanely good performances
For months I had this movie in watchlist waiting to see it after all I have heard and I must say it is one heck of a movie . A powerful drama thriller ! This one gonna stay inside for long. This has to be the best performance of High Jackman . He portrays his character so well with layers of Emotion of a father who is in anguish and grief yet raging to go to any extent to know the truth of what happened to his daughter is incredibly well done . Jake Gyllenhaal is incredible as always ! The cinematography is just brilliant . The only problem of the film is that it is a tad too long and maybe problematic for certain people who loves fast paced thriller but the slow and steady suspense unfolding makes it very gripping .., and with years gone by and this film still tops many list I assume people didn't had that problem.. Also the maze part didn't seem to fit well enough in the narrative at times. Surely this is one of the finest thrillers to come out backed by outstanding performances ,gritty storytelling and will surely revisit this in upcoming years !!! Denis Villeneuve you are awesome !!

Black Widow
(2021)

Ummmm..pretty needless
Even being a MCU fan , Black Widow is one of the least interesting characters and hardly had any expectations from the movie so it really didn't dissapoint. It does no changes to the MCU and the events takes place after Civil War so not much of a backstory... The action sequences are top notch and that's probably the only shine in the movie along with some decent performances specially by David Harbour! Would come somewhere in the last row of the MCU favourite lists !!

What Lies Below
(2020)

Terrible ending ruined all the fun
Despite the mediocre acting kind of enjoyed it until the weird unexplained climax , more weird actually than that guy smelling and licking period blood !!!

Open 24 Hours
(2018)

Decent watch
Pretty decent slasher thriller ! The whole story goes around in one night about a psychopath girl trying to be normal working in a gas station where here hallucinations and past haunts her. There are a handful of characters and they are ok in their job. The direction, narration , gore is good even though some scenes are cliché in such genre. The ending is unexplained and that is a bit confusing . There are some plot holes too . But on a weekend night it is a good movie to get on !!

The Empty Man
(2020)

You won't believe you ended up watching the same movie you started
What started off brilliantly in the Bhutan hills came down to a long , uncanny and confusing tale. The film is shot brilliantly along with good atmospheric thrill but with plenty potential it ended up with a mixture of plenty of things. Was expecting a supernatural urban legend ritual after the brilliant creepy first act came down to manifestation, antenna , recievers of messages and what not making this a waste of a good opportunity !!

The Room
(2019)

Falls short of the potential but still thumbs up
Kind of mixed feelings because the film had potential to do so so much more with the premise it got midway through , but few flaws in the writing stops it from getting to the next level . Despite that it's surprisingly better than it may sound with the film's title.. Refreshing storyline and slow burn yet very gripping with such a small budget and limited cast !

1408
(2007)

Nice, unique and underrated
1408 is a fantastic horror tale. While it's not exactly a scary movie but it tells a wonderful story. The narrative is patchy and confusing at times but that's the plus point of tbe film that it never delivers anything directly.. Powered by some good performance this based on a Stephen King short story is but underrated and delivers a watch ... Looking forward for the alternative endings !!

Ghost House
(2017)

Surprisingly good
This is surprisingly a better watch than the reviews suggest. It had a good eerie feeling throughout with a decent premise. Although its not a completely fresh plot it is engaging and looked fresh.. Some jump scares are good and acting is pretty ok too. The climax could have been better but this is definitely better than the overall ratings suggest. An enjoyable scary ride....

The Haunting of Bly Manor
(2020)

Not perfectly splendid !!
It was kind of always difficult from the start to repeat the compelling storytelling of The Haunting of Hill House but this doesn't get near to it. There are hardly any scares throughout compared to Hill House which gave spine chilling scares at times. The uneven narration makes it even bad. Neither of the episodes have that charm to keep you hooked and provoke for a Binge watch ! There are a few positives .. The acting is fine specially by the Kid Flora...Victoria Pedretti looks stunning throughout .. the cinematography even though not as great as Hill House but good in its own. Way...the background score is pretty good. There's emotional depth In the story infact the whole story is more of drama and emotion and less horror but again that's just not enough to make you love it. Really wanted to love this but unfortunately The Haunting of Bly Manor ends up in a disappointment !!!

Rebecca
(2020)

Good in its own way
The 2020 version of Rebecca isn't the worst remake we have seen. It fact it was pleasantly good in its own.. Ofcourse it would be unfair to compair it with the Oscar winning Hitchcock classic but this adaption is decent in its way ! Lily James looks stunning throughout and delivers a decent performance. The lady as Mrs. Denver's delivers a brilliant performance ! The film though lacks the eerie atmosphere of the original one and the uneven editing at times with scenes moving from one doesn't do good either ! However the emotive part involving the two leads is pretty good. The ending feels a bit rushed and no way could match the original . Having said that first time Rebecca watchers will love it and those who are fan of the Hitchcock classic like me won't mind it either... It's a decent watch. !

Last Moment of Clarity
(2020)

A decent attempt that doesn't quite hit the he mark
A decent attempt that doesn't really hit the mark that it should have !

Inspired from Hitchcock classics more of 'Vertigo' and less of ' Rear Window' this is a take of a guy who comes to LA for an actress whom he thinks is his dead girlfriend.... The film starts off slow but gets the grip in the middle and again an amateurish sequence of events that just doesn't end well. Apart from Samara Weaving none of the actors couldn't really grab attention. A guy who is in so love with his girlfriend couldn't forget her even after 3 years after her death comes searching for her finds her and then suddenly starts living with her childhood friend whom even he couldn't remember a day before they met.. That not what human emotions are ... Also her character popping up and then the actress popping up claiming to be here old girlfriend he is searching for is also flawed. There was so much to emote from the film left with some handful positives. !!

Turistas
(2006)

Much better than you would expect.
On the lines of 'Hostel' this slasher gory torture flick turned out to be pretty much better than expected. The runtime is good enough to keep one engaged. The acting was okay but the characters are pretty likeable . The underwater scenes are pretty well shot . Based on a fictional town in Brazil on some urban legends of human organs trafficking , Turistas is pretty much a good eventful flick .!

Montu Pilot
(2019)

Average at most.
Only Kanchan Mullick and Chandaryee's performance were decent. Rest of the cast really couldn't act specially the leads... either they overacts or couldn't act at rimes. Direction is uneven at times. There's no proper emotion despite romance being a major factor in the script. Too much vulgarity , yeah it's about brothels and prostitutes so that's expected but overuse of profanity even when it's not needed... Average series at most because of the attempt but pretty senseless.

JL50
(2020)

Full marks for attempt, half for execution
Half a star extra for making an attempt to bring such concept in Hindi series/movies!! The plot was new if its kind to Indian viewers and full marks for the attempt but it did felt short of a proper execution ! Acting is pretty average. Abhay Deol doesn't look a CBI pfficer throughout , the leading female is terrible , Pankaj Kapur and Rajesh Sharma are the pick of the lots. Direction is pretty avg. Also have the series been made by Amazon or Netflix I felt the production values would have been better. The total concept of time travel and wormhole not explained and the screenplay is not gripping as it should be. However all aside it is a pretty good attempt and considering a first of its kind it does a decent job in making a successful series.

Harper's Island
(2009)

The perfect slasher
A slasher series comprised of 13 episodes is about a serial killer on rampage... Though there's plenty of resemblance to franchise like Scream this one is good in its own way. Every episodes keeps you guessing on what will happen next . The suspense build well ,the performances are about ok . Midway through it elevates high but around the last two episodes it does falls down with some flawed writing. Not to take away this is a very underrated Suspense Slasher flick which can be binged watch .Wonder why there was no another season !

The Exorcism of Emily Rose
(2005)

A top tier horror movie....for horror fans and for the horror haters
The exorcism of Emily Rose is a notch higher than normal Horror movies. It's has brilliant writing and superb scares. A courtroom drama horror which questions on a person's belief of the spirituality and exorcism , this is easily the best exorcism movie ever made after 'The Exorcist' even though it is so much more than that. Excellent storytelling, great performances, the score, the setting ,the jump scares all are done brilliantly !!!

The Wretched
(2019)

Pretty decent
Despite such awkward plot the film was surprisingly very gripping. The good pace , likeable characters and a decent setting with some passable effects makes this film a decent one time watch Witch horror movie !!

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl
(2020)

One of the finest biopics of bollywood in recent times
Keeping all the negativity aside this is a very well made film.... Inspiring and beautiful ! Pankaj Tripathi no doubt steals the show... Jahnvi still hasn't improved her expressions yet but still does a pretty good job ... No unnecessary stretched melodramatic scenes....no forced romance ... A bit dodgy direction at times but this is one of the finest biopics to come of bollywood in recent times !!!!

Rebecca
(1940)

The master at one of its very best
One of Hitchcock's earliest movies that fetched Academy Awards isn't astonishing . It is perfect Atmospheric romantic thriller that has a brilliant suspenseful background with a heart warming romantic plot. Excellent performances and excellent cinematography !

Frenzy
(1972)

The master of suspense in his penultimate piece
The penultimate movie of Sir Alfred Hitchcock and he still didn't lose a single bit of his magical touch . The movie is constantly gripping ,keeps you hooked till the end . The only change noticed is with change of times this had some nude scenes, graphic violence which one wouldn't see in any Hitchcock movie ( apart from Psycho's shower scene offcourse). The master of suspense never just lost his touch.

Case 39
(2009)

Underrated for sure
The first 30 mins are so rushed that it seemed like scenes joint together because after which the film starts to uncover , and surprisingly it keeps you hooked till the end despite the plot similar to 'Orphan' , 'The Prodigy' etc. The two ladies carries the film brilliantly . There are some jump scares amd chilling moments. . If only the film had a darker ending than taking the stereotype way it would have been better. Else no complains, this is one hell of an underrated movie.

Richard Jewell
(2019)

Another underrated piece of work.
Isn't this thrillingly underrated?? Why no proper nomination at the academy this year ? This is an thrilling take on a serious events with excellent performances that keep you hooked till the end Clint Eastwood even after being in the industry for so long doesn't fail to impress.

Johnny Gaddaar
(2007)

Sriram Raghavan one of Bollywood's best.....
Yes it look a long time to watch this and this is one of its kind movie in Bollywood .Easily one of the greatest thrillers ever made in Bollywood.. Keeps you guessing every moment. Sriram Raghavan has been doing this long before he made Andhadhun.. The sound effets and other technical aspects are amazing . The only drawback is the performance of Neil as the movie rests a lot on him and he could bring alive the character that much. Apart from that it's a full marks to every department in the movie.

The Man Who Knew Too Much
(1956)

Another masterful work from the master of suspense
Remaking his own movie so he can rectify the mistakes and make it better it's something Sir Alfred Hitchcock can do. Engaging plot, James Stewart's as usual intriguing performance ...he can tell viewed what's going on with his eyelids movements....the star thiugh is Doris Day...who looks ravishing and delivers a standout performance... The scenes where's Stewart sedates Doris Day is a perfect example of how masterfully Hitchcock directs his movies..There's enough Suspense , thrill, drama and an iconic song to keep this engaging which we hardly see even it today's time.!
