I went into this film knowing very little. Yet I was pleasantly surprised. I did not know it had so much comedic moments but it worked as a perfect blend between the gory and serious parts of the film.
I found the design and look of the monkey itself to be pretty creepy and I dug the idea that it was some entity or God-like being. It was reminiscent of the Annabelle doll from the conjuring series. However, I feel like the monkey brought a more menacing and brutal aspect to the "spirit" or "haunt" sub-genre.
I did enjoy the first act probably the most when our protagonists were teenagers and discovering the brutal powers of the monkey. I felt like there was more emotional connection in this part opposed to the second and third acts once we got the time jump.
The highlight of the film was definitely the comedy, gorey kills and production design. The film looked and sounded good.
The main downfall was when the time skip occurred, the emotional connection was lost between the characters and I wasn't as invested in the final act.
However, in saying this I thoroughly enjoyed this dark comedy, it had some great horror moments and great kills (I'll be looking out for the kill count)

I appreciated the simplicity of the story which allowed the directing, atmosphere, cinematography and soundtrack to really be at the forefront in their storytelling.
These elements of the film made a somewhat simple story engaging and beautiful to look at on the big screen. Even for a horror movie I was surprised with the strength of the characters, family bond and overall theme of the film especially with the connection to the prior events in the past.
However, I felt the film could've been a bit more bold, took more risks and try to be inventive. Especially with the director's previous film's "upgrade" and "the invisible man" which took some risks which definitely paid off in some great and memorable moments. I just thought that the conclusion to the film teetered on lacklustre.
However, I was happy that the film did not become too over the top and cheesy in which some horror films that have come out recently have. As stated before, the simplicity of the story allowed us to focus on the characters relationship and the atmospheric setting.
All in all a solid horror film to begin the 2025 campaign however, I think a bolder final act could've made it more memorable.

I wanted to love it but couldn't quite get there. I feel like the movie was trying too hard to be funny. The scenes where we have genuine emotion and intensity is when the movie shines most. However they were sparse.
90% of Team Sonic's lines were corny jokes which took away the gravity of the situations they were facing. The fans want epic scenes that showcase the awesome ability of the hedgehog's and foes yet there wasn't enough or they were too brief.
There were some awesome moments in the movie but i wanted them to go for a bit longer (sonic v shadow in the finale). I also liked the relationship between the Robotniks', comedy and genuine emotion. A nice combo. Jim Carey provided a great performance too (acting and dancing).
You can see the people surrounding the film truly cared about the end product which all sonic fans can appreciate.
However the over used jokes and lack of time spent on the better moments prevent the film from being truly spectacular. However, still an enjoyable popcorn flick.
Gotta go fast!!!!
