Black Panther
(2018)

In general a very entertaining movie
I watch Sci-Fi movies and my wife likes our traditional Punjabi movies. She watches hindi movies also which I have have started watching move infrequently. I have enjoyed this movie all thoroughly. My wife would have have gone to sleep if this was average Sci-Fi movie. Special effects amazing. Fight scenes awesome. Acting very nice. I like the sister a lot and she felt like a sister to me. In which any movie in your life you have seen a beautiful women and felt her like a sister. I think this is out of current Hollywood world experience. General's comment of without doubt was something which hit right on the spot from duty point of view. I will be sad if this does not win Oscars. Shape of water was nice but not that nice in comparison to this movie. Mother's role was very motherly, is it not awesome? I would have given it 11 stars if there was a choice. I was not going to watch this movie and just by chance I saw the trailer on IMDB and I told my daughter this is worth it. Here she booked the ticket and sent me and my wife to the theater. I think those who are giving lesser stars are jealous that this movie is better than the movies they liked. I will watch a sequel and another after this.

Spring Breakers
(2012)

Shallow to the core and lost many connections.
It appeared as if the movie footage was created with a good intention to really send some good message but then not sure what happened? The person who seem to have conceptualized lost the theme or was fired and then hurriedly someone else has just put together the movie to recover some cost. Aside from nudity the movie lacks sequence, at every step you are not sure why are we here and where are we going. Actors performed reasonable but some where someone didn't give them the theme or direction so they were acting episode to episode vs coherent theme. Ending left me clueless as to what the heck? Violence is depicted in a very unrealistic way or may be someone was trying to make it hilarious but failed.

Bikini Spring Break
(2012)

Very reasonable and natural or what we expect from humans!
I enjoyed this movie more than I can give credit here. I felt every one was very natural in acting, in body or scenes. This film gives a very realistic perspective of beauty vs some very out of ordinary people. All actors looked very real life and every thing was real life. Story was little bit shallow but so is the case in many good ones and depth of story is never a barometer of entertainment. Ending was sort of less dramatic which probably caused this to loose some votes but that happens. In real life I have seen people winning grand prize because there was no one to compete. I felt at home in every part of this movie. I am myself a movie making wannabe and this is very inspiring vs trying to make Transformers.

The Cell
(2000)

6.7 at the Best No Doubt, but it could have been better.
From today's standard the movie gets 6.7 stars but wait a minute it was made in 2000. Every aspect of this movie is outstanding except few extras which could have made it stellar for a longer period. The child's plot got extended without reason. The point was to prove that you probe mind and do something interesting not fix the kid. The ending was not spectacular because of extended plot (kind of you have dual plots so I was confused why I have another lingering feeling after the movie). You show some attachment in the movie and then you let the people walk their way as if they are from Gamma Quadrant Bisexual creatures. If we portray something different then those people are going to celebrate the movie but if they are minority the rule of statistics is against you unless majority is sympathetic to the cause you know where I am going actually. I think we should have added some happy ending towards attraction. Movie is much better made and should be seen couple of times. Another point is to throw some Da Vinci code type puzzles which people can solve only after multiple visits, this way you get repeat customers and linger the though. After watching the movie I felt we have not made any progress in special effects and Silicon Graphics still holds value or it seems movie is made in 2011 (curiously it did retain its youthfulness). I am not a regular fan of such movies I just saw it to find out what went wrong with Cell 2.

The Cell 2
(2009)

Chaotic at best but totally confusing at the least.
I watched this with almost honest interest and was impressed by first few shots and then all the acting. I kept wondering and was trying to understand what is going to happen and what the purpose is? I was expecting all the time more and thinking the action will reach to a coherent end. Suddenly the movie ended and that was complete insult to my feelings. Acting is very good and camera crew did the best job, one will wonder what happened? The only guess I have that probably The Director/CEO wanted to say something and didn't know how to communicate to all players, Director didn't know what he wanted to say or he was hoping the concept will evolve as he will make the movie or someone smart in the crew will suggest something interesting. Seriously I am utterly confused what happened here? Except the bigger picture all smaller parts are reasonably good. There was no need of a murder or opening the chest and flash backs of some other kidnap would have done the job. We all have seen Hannibal and we know how stimulating even the most gross scene can be made. By removing one murder you get enough time to add few more links. Then at the end the twist of funny world of Gorilla glass trashing was too much. Had The Director turned Maya to dark side after Duncan's death then probably it still would have ended in a little nicer way. I don't have the time to see it again but I am sure it can be repaired from this level to some reasonable level so one can return some money to all.

My Name Is Khan
(2010)

Very commendable effort but not at par with Amir Khan.
If you see movie from making of it then SRK gave everything he could to this movie. It has his marvelous emotional touch, brilliant acting, excellent Videography and songs. If we take the theme away this would have been a block buster in India. My regrets are more philosophical than theatrical, SRK, even with his weight could not drive the point. I felt the message shallow, half of the movie is wasted in typical love story which early on keeps one not missing the feeling of what is the point. Amir Khan would agree that some punch was missing, may be due to American setting. I am not seeing it selling in US well or going for any Oscar. The Americans for whom this movie was made don't watch movies much and those who watch their thoughts are not influenced by one movie. Effort is commendable and no one in industry can do better than SRK such a theme ( except Amir Khan). with Autism, SRK has handicapped his power, he got stuck with two themes, thinking he will carry one over the shoulder of other but in my opinion it did not work. Amitabh in PAA was carrying only one theme and a story.

Avatar
(2009)

Movie will inspire many movie makers for some years to Come.
I was expecting a lot and I did get a lot in the movie. So much so that Vatican felt threatened and made a statement on nature worship and NeoPaganism as they have monopoly on any GOD about some themes in the movie. Graphics is best in class and actually I had motion sickness, personally I may not see more 3D movies because I cannot take it. Let your self roll with the movie and wander where the movie want to take you. Race is shown little bit but usually very abstract themes don't drive home a major point without some simple analogy and analogies are logically related in the sense not in totality, hence futility of people finding race question here. There are some scenes of hanging rocks and holographic screens which I think are for entertainment purpose vs enlightenment of young minds and are truly quite original though journey to the center of earth did introduce the concept. Na'vi's speaking English makes me wonder what point we are making there but let us not hang on that theme because you will loose the effort spent in getting Na' vian language up to speed. Na'vi people are not so realistic but just think that movie is a super hit without that because Madagascar has a better eye coordination with mode and dialogues. One more point, Avatar is an Indian word meaning reincarnated self of usually God or superhuman being and quite well chosen like Yoda (another Indian word meaning warrior from Star Wars). All in all buckle up and get ready for pretty fantastic future like Wall.E, it may be a matter of choice in future to have or not have and struggle.

2012
(2009)

I am Tired, Not So Long
At the onset I will say it is very long and you tend to check watch when it is going to end. Movie has gone beyond its time, no matter how good you are, you cannot see Vatican going down unless you are like me jealous of their free money. Now about predictions, the relationship is really pathetic because it can never happen unless you believe we have cyclical destructions, and then, why bother unless you have taken care of hunger, terrorism/religion, sickness (AIDS, Swine Flu) and greed etc. It is like betting on puts all the time, you will only win once but will loose many times before that. Movie should get awards for CGI but without a convincing story and not even a simple realistic kiss scene, how can you do that. Movie sells actually Mr. Moore, (figuratively) our camera totting weird story teller and giant conspirator of this time. Special effects lost their impact due to story not keeping them alive and they look more like sudden fragments of several movies woven together. If you remove that Russian character (Oliver Platt) and his story altogether from movie I don't see anything will change but we will gain (30 Minutes of time and some money). There was no dram around the fact that all world leaders came together without bitching about who is the rascal.

Gigli
(2003)

Not sure why it is so bad for others and not for me??!!
Movie lacks a plot, yes. Movie lacks main stream theme, yes., but does it lack anything else, No. Are there mistakes, yes but there are several movies which are rated 6-7 and lack almost similar things with added disadvantage that they have bad dialogs and acting. Acting in the movie is very good and is almost at best level. Making of movie is of top level. I can only say someone somewhere lost some interest. It has some very profound dialogs which only less than one percent of the population can understand. May be that is the reason that people could not like it. It leaves you dangling at the end but why cannot we read love all over flowing in the eyes than being told with explicit scenes. Jennifer is not convincing as lesbian, she is too hot, I admin if this portrayal wrecked the movie unconsciously, may be. If you watch this movie with full disdain for plot then there is nothing wrong with the movie. Just watch with a moving window of ten minutes story and you will feel the power of absurdity with which people have thrown this gem away. I am going to watch this movie couple of times to really understand what is bad.

Crank: High Voltage
(2009)

Superably boring and devastating on the wallet.
Before commenting and watching this movie, I kept staring at the rating, and was sold to the popularity of other movies of Jason Statham. This movie would have been exactly the way it is now, without Jason Statham, then why pay more. I would call this a horrendous movie like that Roman Emperor who wanted to make his horse his Minister. This movie has everything wrong which at the most can go wrong. The ending was slightly better than rest of the movie which is superably complemented by dismal starting. I can write a whole essay and can improve this movie where as I have not even made one movie in my whole life. One thing this movie does do very well that one day every movie will be outsourced some part because there were lot of silly effects which were supporting a testing case in this movie of some concept. All in all I will say you should watch if you want to make a movie otherwise spending your time some where else will be more productive. If the budget is a true figure this movie still did very good business wise, in some non western countries probably someone would have burned the theater down.

Teree Sang: A Kidult Love Story
(2009)

Confused Theme for Old Ideas Recycling of Love Story
The whole theme is bad. First off all Bollywood creates this problem of teen pregnancy by borrowing from Hollywood's problem and then they try to shift the blame or act like reformer. There are not even 10% of movies which are socially responsible. It is like after raping someone, person says sorry and offers some help. This methodology of psychic repair is very convoluted. In all decades there were movies of this type where kids will elope due to class disparity, family feud or religion and this decade took it little more. I will not be shocked if Bollywood steps up to horrifying level of showing naked bodies in the mix to make the movie get some business. Except Mr. Kapoor's acting and some salvaging comment from Anupam Kher, the whole movie is like a Filmstan's kids project with seed capital from lead roles. At the end, I can only say Pathetic.

The Man from Earth
(2007)

Very Interesting and Thoroughly Immersive Experience
I just thought of watching this movie not knowing what I am getting in. It started kind of awkward and then once it picked up speed on thoughts and comments, I had to try hard to follow. I have almost read most of the history, religion and Eastern philosophy and could not appreciate better that someone can make this type of movie. Movie has its own style to lead you into a concept and then give you various perspectives. Someone became Atheist after watching this movie, I will not say it goes to that extent but yes if you are very religious you have to think again after seeing the movie from another perspective. I recommended to one of my friend and she liked it a lot, though she had to rewind couple of times to get it.

Dasavatharam
(2008)

What a Crap, People Call it Acting or Movie - No Way
Some of my old friends suggested me to watch this movie but I got chance only recently. I had high hopes of seeing something interesting from Kamal Hans, what I saw was bunch of garbage camera angles mixed at high speed. I could not understand what was the message except demeaning Hinduism. I am more like many religion type but I felt Kamal Hasan is a man low character to have orchestrated this kind of thought. He could have made a horror movie than this crap. He tried to add Hollywood genre of viruses and god forbid he did not convert that guy into a mutant and ultimately going to go for world domination. This is a much befitting movie for a film school vs regular public. Shame on him for not holding up to the talent he has. Starting of story tried Chaos to borrow ideas from Butterfly effect, then in between little religious harmony at the cost of insulting Hinduism (Once again I insult Hinduism more but this movie has no equal and my insult is same for religion in general which may have made this movie intellectual one.)

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
(2008)

Excellent Movie which kept my tears rolling all the way.
I am great fan of Sharukhan. He is actor who stands taller than the crowd. For me this movie was way beyond I had imagined. I usually don't want Hindi movies or like usually Sanjay Khan vs other new generation actors.

Depiction of Amritsar is very realistic and even Ms. Chadda will agree (Bride and Prejudice) that she could have added some more here and there.

I was watching this with my wife and all along tears kept rolling. The pain is portrayed so well, I never thought the actress was acting the first time. She was as seasoned in acting or say natural that I kept on thinking about Rani Mukharjee (Not comparing to Ash because it needs 2nd or 3rd to prove).

Moreoever the pain was with both sides and they both were oblivious of actually each others pain (it is not easy to understand what the other party is thinking when you are busy in your own thoughts.) Sharukh represents a true simple middle class Punjabi (Rather West Punjabi) who spends life in very simple way all through. As Raj, it proves how Indians could be deceptive as Surinder's and transform in Raj's (West) of America (Pretty simple evolutionary jump which for some is unfathomable generation gap).

Ankusha has shown all the roles of serious as well as a modern actress, like, keeping it up with Sharukh's talent. On top of it she is extremely beautiful and you will be forced to devour the beauty.

Ending and other parts of the plot are as usual we have in Hindi movies and cannot be translated. For me Sharukh is like an alien who entertains us and is giving message of brotherhood while holding back his identity.

Step Up 2: The Streets
(2008)

Enjoyable, Makes You Think and Pretty Good Point
I am not at all Hip-Hop fan or anyway they call Ghetto style stuff or anything which has poverty attached to it and I am not sure why I picked this movie at all, may be had nothing else to do. This is great movie, makes me wonder someone is thinking.

These type of ideas make me salute Adam Smith for making world aware of capitalism and value of Chaos as solution for difficult issues. No one can imagine what type of dancing will be liked by crowd and once it has been around for 200+ years then it gets in classic form and I think this was the point director was making. Movie could have been much better except dancing which was awesome in the back drop. Girl and the guy were perfect and I will not 2nd guess if Bollywood copies this concept though this is not at all a phenomena today in India but capitalism has brought chaos, hence many new forms will sprung up. Keep your mind more open and watch this movie seriously and enjoy having quality time spent over other block busters. This movie has actually changed me if you don't dislike these kind of sentences.

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
(2008)

Very Engaging with comedy running in veins for couple of hours after the viewing.
Not sure where to start, not a comedy fan but I must admit, this was very joyful experience. Personally pot is on the low scale though the mixing of concept was quite good. At times the movie was educational and lent hand in showing some aspects of people who are not well traveled. Dump portrayal was best, romanticism was thrown in such a way that people might look in a different way now arranged marriage guys. Having packed so much fun in this short time, it needs a sequel besides the improvement from White Castle is huge. Personally, I would not like to see president the way they showed but not bad if we compare to David Letterman's Jo Leno's show. All in all, every one should watch, but not in family or where ratings are strictly followed.

What Happens in Vegas
(2008)

Nice to Spend Some Time in-between Flights but Not Otherwise.
I watched the movie and I have a good share of movies and I like light hearted movies. It was nice in general with some awkward moments of acting by Ashton Kutcher. I felt depressed that the girl (Cameron Diaz) was acting for better and charming though her faces sometimes looses being bigger when she smiles. Jack (Ashton's Dad) performed very natural. Although the theme was to send message about marriage sans sex but it again comes back. I saw a BBC documentary which was referring to Pagan past and I see reflection in this message. Had the story been more natural and less dramatic it would have been better, I felt that I am watching a movie, in case of Titanic, I was part of the movie. You can feel there was tons of talent in the movie but the whole arrangement lacked the same level of talent.

Wanted
(2008)

Failed attempt at matching Bourne Series
Ah, I can sense the pathetic effort in making this a hit like Bourne series or Transporter. The guy looks kiddo though that was the point and to compensate they try to take off his shirt for the delight of female crowd but do we 90% of our life live like that, so we need more than stone model to make life run in a movie. Of-course, Lara Croft added her charm and I cannot find anything miss in her part though she was with the dark side at the end which broke my heart. I felt I wasted my time though I was watching with high hopes. I think the crowd who wood like to watch these kind of movies are those who need a dog to help them sleep because they are too scared to sleep alone and to cover up their weakness they want to see them as pseudo hero (typical Freudian confusion).

Crash
(2004)

Much Needed Philsophical Touch to Our Capitalism Driven Value System
I hope what was revealed is true to some extent because all the value system in US is driven by market forces (Capitalist) and none by religion. This way kids can learn without wasting time with religion all the nuances of non-divine design. It is confusing to understand if one has not read any of the reviews as to the purpose of the film. Film does fail at many places to keep coherence but when you come out after watching this then one does feel it could not have been better. There is a sense of improvement for me when I think back but not quite sure what that would be without understanding to what the films are addressed to. It has all the components of the message which is hard to drive in a fast moving materialistic society.

Water
(2005)

Another Half Hearted Attempt to Beat the Past
This would have probably been more relevant around 70-80 years back but today this is waste of time. It would be nice to make films which solve the current problems. China and India are going through their new found love of Capitalism and west has checks and balances in place to stop capitalism from breaking the cultural fabric and this would be a great theme to try. How will outsourcing change the social system what needs to be done to harness the financial freedom of women to provide them better voice in Indian social system. In the hind sight it is easy to say slavery was bad but most of us have all the time tried this so let us analyze self and find a better future than beat the past again. Everything was mediocre and typical art film style and that will be the future of this film.
