Maleficent
(2014)

Beautiful costumes, scenes and a fresh look at Sleeping Beauty.
The movie was beautiful, Angleina Jolie's cheekbones are magnificent, her horns are envy worthy and I am really enjoying how Disney is starting to show the Villains side of the story. Oh and not to mention Maleficent's leather outfit at the end. I mean... If anything is a "must see" in the movie, it is that outfit.

Maleficent is about a fairy (named Maleficent) who, as a child, meets a human boy (Stefan). They spend a lot of time together while growing up and learn to trust each other. When Stefan is grown, he stops coming to visit her. The next time he sees her is in a battle, years later, when the corrupt King tries to invade the beautiful land that she and the rest of the magical creatures live in. During the battle, Maleficent defeats the King and before he dies he claims "Whoever kills Maleficent will be my successor." Well, Stefan  knows he can regain her trust and kill her to become King.  He then drugs her and attempts to kill her but cannot. His solution to still be the Kings successor? Take her wings from her and offer them to the King.

So from there, they fight. And this is where the story of Sleeping Beauty comes in. Idk - it was good, the interactions between Aurora and Maleficent are funny and sweet. But it felt very rushed and almost too "Disney". There's a really intense scene where Maleficent is choking someone and there is a really long pause for effect and she says "IT'S. OVER." Now, I would typically expect some sort of profanity or a stronger line than that, but that's what they went with. So.

Oh. And the crow is hilarious.

Moral of the story: don't cast a spell that "nothing on earth can break" and there's always two sides to a story.

If you like Disney, go see it. If there are other movies you want to see (Chef, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, A million Ways to Die in the West, Million Dollar Arm, Jersey Boys, Neighbors, Blended, Spider Man, The Other Woman...) Go see that instead.

That Awkward Moment
(2014)

That Awkward Moment was not awkward at all! Just hilarious
I have read a ton of reviews saying this movie is not worth seeing but I don't understand. I laughed the whole time. Come on, it's three 20-something's fooling around with women. What do you expect? Oscar winning acting, costumes, music and writing? No. It's a feel good comedy meant to entertain you. And that's what I got out if it. And so did the rest of the theater, I'm assuming from the constant laughter.

That Awkward Moment was not awkward at all! Just hilarious. Well, there were a couple of awkward scenes but it added to the hilarity.

The specific "awkward moment" is when a girl says "so..."; the three friends say that nothing good comes after a girl saying "so". For example: "so, where are we headed" or "so, what are we?". But this is me (a girl) saying "Soooo... That movie was hilarious! You need to see it."

I mean, it did make me glad I have a bf already and don't have to deal with guys like in the movie but they are funny, attractive and charming.

I didn't like Ellie who is a main character. She seemed disheveled and couldn't get a US accent just right the whole movie but everyone else was wonderful. Especially Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis), she was the icing on the Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan cake. Yum.

The movie definitely earned its R rating with swearing and adult scenes. Oh, and Zac Efron does in fact Rock Out with a large, strap-on (Blank) Out. For a good amount of time. So, be ready.

There was a woman behind me talking the entire time. PEOPLE. STOP talking through movies! We can all read the 8 ft tall "three months later" placed immediately in front of our faces. No need to narrate.

Go see it.

Dallas Buyers Club
(2013)

A true story that writers fought for 20 years to bring to life. Crazy right? Well, it's a good thing they did because it is an important and interesting piece of our history.
Have you seen this movie? You should see this movie.

It's about a closed minded cowboy in '85 who is very much into the rock n' roll life style. Well unfortunately he catches HIV and is told he has 30 days to live. Of course, this was before we had medication for HIV/aids, there were drugs in trial however. He finds a way to appreciate people for who they are, live much longer than diagnosed and help many other aids victims as well.

It's a true story that writers fought for 20 years to bring to life. Crazy right? Well, it's a good thing they did because it is an important and interesting piece of our history.

Matthew McConaughey is an amazing Ron Woodroof and Jared Leto was just... A beautiful, wonderful, fabulous Rayon. For a moment I was jealous of how beautiful he is as a woman.

Food for thought: Matthew McConaughy was in Magic Mike in 2012 and stared in DBC in 2013. That is some crazy weight gain/loss.

Moral of the story: take care of your body. "You only have one life, (yours)."

Also, the buyers clubs are seriously smart. Way to go guys!

Go to your TV/computer and rent it on amazon now!

The Best Man Holiday
(2013)

A real look at relationship dynamic, this movie pulls at your heart strings.
Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Nia Long and Harrold Perrineau. OH! And Monica Calhoun. Oohhhhh Monica Calhoun. This cast is super charismatic and man are they beautiful! They all feel very natural acting together. I would believe they are all very close outside of acting jobs.

Okay. Let's get one thing straight real quick. THIS MOVIE IS NOT A COMEDY. I know, I know. The previews lead you to believe it's a lighthearted, funny, Christmas movie. NOPE. They got me too, we're in this together, learn from my mistakes!

Although it does have it's funny moments The Best Man Holiday brought the tears. Like. A lot of tears. It was straight up heart breaking. Don't get me wrong, it's worth watching! Just don't be surprised when your face starts trying to drown itself from the sadness. Because it's going to happen. And if it doesn't, we can't be friends.

So I haven't told you much about the movie except it's good and sad. Well, I'm not going to tell you much more except that I usually hate sad movies. The fact that I'm telling you to see it even though it made me cry should say enough.

So go see it.

Grown Ups 2
(2013)

A cheesy, hilarious story of a man and his friends reuniting in their hometown.
It is cheesy, exaggerated, Happy Madison humor. I love it.

Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James and David Spade make up a wonderful group of dads.

Adam Sandlers character decides to move his family back to their home town to give them a small town, community feeling as they grow up. Along the way he tries to relive his glory days, comes across old enemies and secret admirers and holds the party of the century.

These types of movies are all about the jokes so I won't say much more. Just: drunk cops, crazy buss driver and naked butts.

Go see it.

The Wolf of Wall Street
(2013)

An intense look at Jordan Belforts life. Prepare yourself.
Wolf of Wall Street is rated R but 100% should have been NC-17. Like. Seriously.

Let me set the scene – three hours of sex, drugs and swearing. I was not mentally prepared to see this movie and let me tell you, it resulted in a good old fashioned mind blowing. I'll expand – there is a dominatrix scene where Leonardo DiCaprio has a candle in his ass and it is the least inappropriate part.

Oh yeah, and did I mention I saw it on Christmas? With my PARENTS? Talk about family bonding.

Leonardo DiCaprio did an exceptional job making me hate and care for (you'll learn I care about just about everyone) Jordan Belfort at the same time. He had an extremely long journey on his way up to the top and when he fell, he fell hard. But my favorite character was Jonah Hill (Donnie Azoff). From the word go he was full speed ahead in the mad life of the Wolf. "Let's run! Let's run like lions and tiger and bears!" they say during a crack high in of the early scenes of their friendship.

"I wish I had counted every time they said f**k – it must have been in the hundreds". My sister said shortly after the movie.

We assume that Martin Scorsese called Leo up one day and said "Hey! I want to make a movie, lets have some fun." And fun they had. Nothing was safe from drugs and humping, and no sentence was left untarnished by cursing.

Go see it.
